Got the cards yesterday and rolled out a few matches.
Adam Peace (2 tokens) won handily over El Generico (5 tokens). Pearce is a beast. In EG's defense, he is the guy who kills everyone, then chokes (usually low rolls) in title matches for me. Pearce was never in trouble of losing his belt here.
YLC 8 man tournament -
Gregory Iron over Joey Ryan w HANDICAPPED PARKING
Green Ant AUTO DQ winner over combatANT after Mask Remover!
Scorpio Sky defeated Johnny Gargano w his +1 finisher
Tursas beat Willie Mack in an awesome match. Best match of the tournament.
Greg Iron wins again beating Green Ant
Scorpio Sky big upset over Tursas. Sky is statted very well and he will give a lot of big guys trouble.
Scorpio Sky beats Greg Iron (first loss for GI in my fed) to win the YLC
The card resulted in Mack and Sky getting full-time slots in my CHIKARA fed, and they will be there when Season 3 debuts later this summer/early fall. So that's pretty huge especially with how anal I am about mixing guys.
The set is very well done. As with any LOW type set, there's some stat stuff I'd probably do differently but nothing that isn't purely subjective (finisher ratings, ch charts etc...no actual mistake per say).
The all white background will take some getting used to, but I do like that they help the NWA guys stand out vs. other color cards. I like that you can tell the feds apart by the card design.
The print quality I give a B+. About as close to the real thing as anyone has ever done. Couple minor adjustments next time around (dashes, font size, card back color, minor spacing, level fonts) and these things will be elite. The card back levels and name at top colors are perfect. The art is good as hell. It's different. Again, you can tell it's a different style from CHIKARA and that's cool.
The handbook is tops. Osk did a phenomenal job with the water marks, spacing, use of space and overall layout. Probably the best looking handbook put out by FG, and much better than the CHIKARA one which I was honestly disappointed with when it came out (not the content, just the formatting and production).
My favorite card in the set is WILLIE MACK. Scorpio Sky looks like he will be a player in my CHIKARA fed. Pearce is as good as it gets. He will give some top LOW talent trouble. He is the Claudio of this set and I love that. I'm a sucker for a real strong, dominant heel champ and Pearce fits the bill. I've never been a fan of double ** stuff, so Joey Ryan loses a few points for me on that but I think I'm in the way minority on that mechanic. I think everyone else likes them so that's just a personal subjective thing. A lot of great undercard talent her with guys like NICK MADRID and JOHNNY YUMA. I'll use these guys to get over bigger talent I want to build up. I really like Los Banditos and I didn't when I first saw them. My only hang up there is I wish their * mechanic was on the cards and not just in the handbook. That comes in handy at Con's and later on in life when I lose the handbook.
Overall I give the set a solid 8/10. For a first time effort putting out a color Indy set it's a home run. The stats are pretty much where they should be. They absolutely work with CHIKARA and look good compared to all LOW cards. The colors look incredible. The art is unique and stands out, and the overall design and production is strong. Definitely a must have set for collectors of all things FG and LOW.
Congrats to Osk and his team for a hell of a job. I'm sure the NWA guys are thrilled with it. Wishing success to all involved and good luck with CZW and whatever comes next! I am happy to help if needed.
