There is always an air of violence when the USWA runs a show in Tupelo and it began with the opening match DQ. The main event with Fuji & Saito beating the New Age Outlaws to retain the USWA tag team titles was outstanding. Congrats to the "Devious One" and "Mr. Torture" on tying Bockwinkel & Stevens' record even in a losing effort. I was really pulling for Jimmy Valiant to get that non-title win over Rick Rude and boy did he come close. Solid win for Rude, though. Ed "Strangler" Lewis gets the next shot at Rude and it looks like both champion and challenger were fortunate to get wins on this night.

Thanks to Troy, Joe Breakdown, and Crue Fan for the comments! Hope everyone had fun at Galacticon! There is always an air of violence when the USWA runs a show in Tupelo Good observation, Crue Fan! I do try to add a little bit more intensity to the matches that take place in Tupelo, due to the real-life wild angles that occurred there, like the concession stand brawls. I'd be interested to know if you've kept win/loss records for the fed? It would be cool to see where everybody stands! Joe, good question! Yes, I do track these. I do singles and tag records for every game year, and a year or two ago started doing career records too. I would post where everyone is at as of my last post, but I'm actually way ahead of where I've been posting. While I'm in April 2015 for my posts, I'm actually up to December 2015. (Next card is the New Year's Knockout XII supercard.) While I used to play and post everything right away, I was enjoying this game year and wanted to keep playing cards. It's been fun, but now I have a lot of catching up to do with posting on here! Thanks to everyone for reading! Hopefully will have another post soon.

Cool stuff!! I'm always intrigued to see how the lower card guys such as Sharpe, South, Rodz and Luke end up doing, and after going back reading your posts from way back, I like how they feature a lot and actually have storylines. Some of Kat Rana's and my favourite storylines have been centred around the 'scrubs' as it were- especially when they get a big win! Larry Sharpe has even held gold in FPW! Keep up the posts, I'm a big fan

Thanks, Joe, for the compliments!
Highlights of USWA Championship Wrestling on 4-25, with more announcements of matches for Derby City Stampede! • A second championship match has been added to this new supercard. Mr. Fuji and Mr. Saito will put the USWA World Tag Team championship on the line against their rivals and a team they’ve battled several times—the Vachons! Fuji and Saito have now tied with Nick Bockwinkel and Ray Stevens’ first reign for the most number of defenses of these titles. Should they retain against the Vachons in Louisville, they will break the record and be the sole #1 position holders. In their standard four-on-four tag team matches, the Japanese team has yet to gain a decisive win over the Algerian brothers. Due to so many wild bouts between the two teams, Commissioner Bob Armstrong announced the title bout in Louisville will be a No-Disqualification Match! • Whichever team leaves the “Derby City” the champions will not have much time to rest, as they will defend 10 days later in the main event at the Mid-South Coliseum in Memphis against the New Age Outlaws! As a result of defeating Fuji and Saito via countout on last week’s card in Tupelo, Commissioner Bob Armstrong has granted them another shot. • The Outlaws will also be in action at Derby City Stampede, as they will do battle with the Age of the Fall for the first time! Jimmy Jacobs and Tyler Black sent in a video to the WMC-TV Studios. Jacobs stated that they are ready for “better” competition and prove that they are the next stars and “leaders” of the USWA. • Two rivals will collide again, as Nick Bockwinkel faces Larry “The Axe” Hennig. Hennig has caused Bockwinkel a lot of headaches since returning last July, costing Bockwinkel title shots or the title itself and putting him out of action. Bockwinkel served some poetic justice last week in attacking Hennig during his bout with Ed “Strangler” Lewis in Tupelo. Bockwinkel was interviewed in-studio and said he wasn’t looking to help Lewis so much, but rather to get a small measure of revenge on “The Axe.” He said that when Hennig first attacked him last July in Springfield, no one but Jimmy Hart and the First Family knew that Hennig was there. He said that in a similar fashion, no one knew Bockwinkel was in the building last week in Tupelo. • Ed “Strangler” Lewis was later interviewed. He stated that he did not see Bockwinkel’s interference in his match with Hennig last week at the time, but heard about it and saw video footage of it after the fact. He said despite some intense battles with Bockwinkel in the past, he does respect him as a wrestler. He thanked Bockwinkel for the assistance and then stated he plans to win his seventh USWA World title from “Ravishing” Rick Rude on his own! • Some other matches for Derby City Stampede will see the first tag team match of the new team of the PYT Express! D’Lo Brown looked impressive on his own in Tupelo last week, but will he and Sweet Brown Sugar gel as a team? • Another match for this supercard will see two former tag team partners turned rivals collide once again, as “The Anarchist” Arik Cannon faces Claudio Castagnoli! So far in their USWA singles meetings, “The Swiss Superman” is up 2 wins to 1. Who will win the latest bout in this series? • “Cowboy” Bob Orton, Jr. was interviewed in-studio. The former USWA World Heavyweight champion announced that his tag team partner Olympian Bob Roop has decided to leave the USWA for the time being. With wrestling being kept in the Olympics, Roop is planning to try and qualify for the 2016 games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil! Orton thanked the USWA fans, on his and Roop’s behalf, for supporting their tag team over the last year-and-a-half; a team which started as two wrestlers teaming up to battle mutual enemies in the Masked Superstars!
Just four days before the first ever Derby City Stampede, supercard, the USWA brings a huge card to “Music City”—Nashville and the Municipal Auditorium on April 27! • “The Anarchist” Arik Cannon will take on Butcher Vachon! Both men have big title matches upcoming in the next few weeks. Who will get momentum from this match? • In tag team action, the Midnight Express will face the British team of David Taylor and “The Belfast Bruiser” Fit Finlay. Taylor and Finlay have the 30-Minute Iron Men Match coming up at Derby City Stampede, while the Midnights are looking ahead to an eventual showdown with the new of the PYT Express. The Midnights were cheered by the Lexington fans two weeks ago in their match against Virgil and “The Unpredictable” Johnny Rodz. How will they be received in Nashville? • Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy will take on former ally and current Hot Stuff, International member Doug Gilbert! Gordy continues his battles with members of his former stable. Can he topple the younger Gilbert? • “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka will collide with First Family of Wrestling member Larry “The Axe” Hennig. Hennig will be out for revenge against one of the three men that put his ally Ray “The Crippler” Stevens out of action with injured ribs. Can Hennig chop Snuka down or will Snuka fly to victory? • Before he challenges for the USWA World Heavyweight title at Derby City Stampede, Ed “Strangler” Lewis will collide with Mad Dog Vachon! Mad Dog is also looking ahead to a title match at the Stampede, as he and brother Butcher will receive another shot at the USWA World Tag Team titles. Mad Dog gave Lewis’ former charge Lou Thesz some challenging bouts this past fall and winter. Can Lewis topple the Algerian brawler? • The main event will be for the USWA Southern Heavyweight championship. Current titleholder and the manager of Hot Stuff, International Eddie Gilbert will defend against four-time former champion and the men he defeated for the title—Steve “Dr. Death” Williams! Gilbert captured the title from Williams in February in Johnson City, but Williams was not at 100%, as he had a neck injury from Gilbert, Mr. Fuji, and Mr. Saito in Chattanooga the previous month. Since losing the title to Gilbert, Williams has been resting his injury and training to be back in peak condition. This will be his return from the injury and you can bet the always intense Williams will be hitting hard. Can Williams capture his fifth Southern title and set the record for the most number of reigns or will Gilbert triumph again?
All these huge bouts, plus a return grudge match between the Age of the Fall and the team of “Dastardly” Danny Doring and the Amish RoadKill! Plus, in another big tag team match, Big John Studd and King Kong Bundy battle Red Pepper! Also, Double X in action, as well as the in-ring return after 8½ years of the newest Hot Stuff, International member—“The Fabulous” Ox Baker!

April 27, 2015 Card #431: Municipal Auditorium in Nashville
1) The Age of the Fall was victorious in the opener over their rivals “Dastardly” Danny Doring and the Amish RoadKill. Doring and Tyler Black started the bout for their teams. Black started off strong against the “Dastardly One,” but Doring hit the Bareback out of nowhere and scored a two-count on Black. Rather than tagging RoadKill, Doring got cocky and worked over Black. He went up top for the Danaconda, but Black rolled out of the way and Doring landed hard. Black tagged Jimmy Jacobs in, who violently attacked Doring. Jacobs locked on the End Time and forced Doring to tap, before RoadKill could make a save or even tag into the bout. The Age of the Fall looked impressive here, but how will they fare against two-time former champions the New Age Outlaws at Derby City Stampede? DUD
2) Double X defeated Jake “The Milkman” Milliman by countout. The masked man largely dominated the Nashville native, despite the fans supporting their hometown hero. Double X attempted to defeat Milliman with a sleeperhold, as he had Milliman locked in the hold for nearly a minute. Milliman managed to make the ropes and then rolled out to the floor for a breather. Double X followed him and executed an atomic drop, sending Milliman into the ring apron. The masked grappler returned to the ring, but Milliman was unable to do so, so Double X got a countout win—his second in his three USWA singles matches so far. ¼*
3) Red Pepper scored a huge victory, giving the First Family of Wrestling team of Big John Studd and King Kong Bundy their first decisive loss, since the giants started teaming in February. Red Bastien and Pepper Gomez worked trapped Studd in the ring for the first few minutes of the match. Gomez was able to get Studd off of his feet and hit the Mexican Leap. Bundy tagged in and worked over Bastien. He sent the flying redhead into the corner and then delivered the Atlantic City Avalanche. The cocky Bundy actually scored a three-count, but as he typically does after his finisher, demanded a five-count. Sam Platania obliged and Bastien kicked out after four! The fans popped big that Red Pepper was still in the bout. Gomez tagged back in and ran wild on the New Jersey giant. He jumped on Bundy’s back and locked on a sleeper. Bundy started to drop to the hold, so Studd stepped over the ropes for a save. Platania saw him coming and cut him off, which allowed “The Mouth of The South” Jimmy Hart to jump in the ring and jump on Gomez’ back! Bastien came in and pulled Hart off, then tossed him under the bottom rope, but the interference was enough to break up the sleeper. Bundy quickly recovered and shoved Gomez into the corner. He then delivered another Avalanche. Gomez crumbled to the mat and Bundy went for a cover, with another demand of a five-count. But for the second time in the bout, his opponent kicked out after four! Studd and Bundy double teamed Gomez for a few minutes, including Studd hit a double-arm suplex on “The Man with The Cast Iron Stomach” for a two-count. Gomez battled back against Bundy, knocking the big man down with a dropkick. He then delivered two Mexican Leaps in a row, the second one landing right on Bundy’s nose and busting the big man open. Bastien tagged in and dazzled Bundy with his fast-paced offense. He attempted a submission with an abdominal stretch, but Bundy powered out of it. Studd tagged in, but Red Pepper worked over him as well. They had the big man dazed when Bastien showcased his amazing agility by hitting a flying head scissors on the 6’10” Studd, when Studd was bent over from a knee to the stomach. Bastien was able to take the big man down and score the pinfall after nearly 20 minutes of action! Bundy attempted a save, but couldn’t get there in time, due to fatigue and perhaps the surprise of Bastien’s amazing maneuver! The Nashville fans went wild for Red Pepper’s big win, as Hart was in shock! ****
4) “The Anarchist” Arik Cannon defeated Butcher Vachon by countout. Vachon had the early advantage and was looking to make quick work of the PBR drinker. After about three minutes of action, the World Tag Team champions Mr. Fuji and Mr. Saito made a surprise appearance at ringside to scout one-half of their next challengers. Butcher saw them from the aisle, but tried to maintain focus. He got Cannon up in the hangman. As Tommy Marlin was checking to see if Cannon would submit, Fuji grabbed Butcher’s ankle from outside the ring. Butcher dropped “The Anarchist” and went after both champions. The Japanese quickly retreated up the aisle, with Butcher in pursuit. Unfortunately for Butcher, Marlin was putting a count on him. Butcher realized it and ran back, but not in time to beat the 10-count. Cannon got the surprise win to the delight of the “Music City” fans, but to the disgust of Vachon! ¼*
5) Former USWA World Tag Team and Texas champion Ox Baker made his return to the USWA after 8½ years. “The Fabulous” Ox, now a member of Hot Stuff, International, was victorious in his return over Jim Powers. Baker was accompanied by his new manager Southern Heavyweight champion “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert. Gilbert was sporting his wrestling gear, in preparation for his title match and main event later in the evening. Powers had some early offense against Baker, but the large Iowan took over. He hit a shoulder breaker and went for a pin, but pulled Powers’ shoulder off the mat before what would have probably been the three-count. Baker continued to brutalize the New Yorker. He got Powers down on the mat and hit a falling version of his heart punch to score the pinfall. Baker looked very dominant in his return! ½*
6) The Midnight Express defeated David Taylor and “The Belfast Bruiser” Fit Finlay via countout. “Beautiful” Bobby Eaton and “Sweet” Stan Lane were favored by the Nashville fans tonight. The Midnights hit a Double Goozle on former Mid-America champion Taylor. Taylor fought back and tagged to Finlay. Finlay worked over “The Gangster of Love,” hitting a hard scoop slam for a two-count. Finlay hit the Tombstone a few minutes later and went for a cover, but Eaton jumped in with an elbow drop to Finlay’s back. Finlay got off of Lane and went after “Beautiful” Bobby. Taylor jumped in too and the British took Eaton to the floor. Lane recovered from the Tombstone and joined the brawl. All four men were brawling and it looked like there might be a rare double countout. But Lane noticed Sam Platania’s count and dove back in at nine. The other legal man Finlay turned around and dove in, but right after Platania hit 10, so the Midnights got a countout victory after just a few minutes. Finlay and Taylor were outraged. They attempted to continue the brawl, but the Midnights got the upper hand and sent the British duo back to the locker room quickly! *
7) Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy defeated Hot Stuff, International member Doug Gilbert. Gilbert was accompanied by both Southern champion and his brother Eddie Gilbert, as well as “Sensational” Sherri Martel. Gordy had the early advantage, but Sherri tripped the former Southern champion up from the outside. Gilbert ambushed Gordy from behind. He took over and hit a second rope knee drop for a near fall. Gilbert went up top, perhaps for his shoulder ram. Gordy got to his feet, ran over to the corner, and nailed Doug with a punch to the stomach before he could leap. Doug got crotched on the top rope. Gordy climbed up the ropes, pulled Gilbert off, and hit a Bamm Bamm Slam. He covered Gilbert and scored the pinfall! Gordy mocked his former manager Eddie and former valet Sherri, and then intimated that Gilbert would not be Southern champion at the end of the card! (Would “Bamm Bamm’s” prediction turn out to be true? Read on!) *
8) “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka defeated Larry “The Axe” Hennig via disqualification after just a few minutes of action. Snuka managed to get the big Hennig up and deliver a backbreaker for a near fall. Hennig took over on a brawl outside the ring, using a steel chair, while Jimmy Hart distracted Tom Branch. Snuka took over back in the ring and got Hennig down on the mat. The Fijian warrior went up top and hit the Superfly Leap. He went for a cover, but “The Mouth of The South” jumped in the ring and nailed Snuka in the back with the megaphone, right in front of Branch. Branch called for the bell and disqualified “The Axe.” Snuka recovered and went after Hart. He attempted to unleash an attack on Hart, but Hennig grabbed Hart and hauled him to the back! ¾*
9) Ed “Strangler” Lewis defeated Mad Dog Vachon by DQ. The match started with some mat wrestling, as former Olympian Vachon showcased his amateur background. Lewis got the upper hand in this scientific exchange. He threw Vachon with the Strangler’s Headlock and tried to pin Mad Dog’s shoulders to the mat, but Vachon got a shoulder up. Mad Dog got to the ropes for a break and rolled out of the ring. Vachon shook off Lewis’ skills and reached through the ropes from the outside. He snapped “Strangler’s” neck on the middle rope and then returned to the ring. Vachon turned to his brawling prowess and raked Lewis’ eye. He then shot a double leg takedown on Lewis, taking him down to the mat. Rather than working the six-time former World champion into a pin, he grabbed Lewis in a choke hold. Mad Dog continued to strangle the “Strangler,” despite warnings from Sam Platania. Vachon wouldn’t listen, so Platania put the count on him. Vachon did not release by five, so Platania was left with no choice, but to call for the bell. Mad Dog kept the choke on briefly, but then released and returned to the locker room. Lewis was able to get to his feet and return to the locker room on his own, but looked in rough shape. *½
10) The main event was for the USWA Southern Heavyweight championship. Current champion “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert, accompanied by valet “Sensational” Sherri Martel, put the title on the line against four-time former champion Steve “Dr. Death” Williams. Gilbert won the title from an injured Williams back in February. Williams had been out of action until tonight, hoping to get back to 100% and not only win back the Southern title, but break the tie with the Iron Sheik and became a five-time champion! Williams was definitely healed, as he was aggressive at the start. He blasted Gilbert with a standing dropkick for a two-count early in the bout. Williams hit a press slam, pressing the champ up above his head several times, before dropping him to the mat. He covered “Hot Stuff,” but again got a two-count. Williams hit a lariat for another near fall. The challenger hit another lariat, this time sending Gilbert up-and-over the top rope and to the floor. Gilbert was shaken up and Williams followed him. “Sensational” Sherri jumped up on the ring apron and distracted Tommy Marlin, while Gilbert took advantage by choking Williams with Gary Michael Cappetta’s microphone chord. Gilbert threw Williams back into the ring, as Sherri got off the apron. The champion focused on Williams’ previously-injured neck. He came off the second rope with a forearm drive into the back of “Dr. Death’s” neck. Gilbert maintained control, whipped Williams into the ropes, and caught him on the rebound with the Hot Shot, which is how Gilbert won the title in Johnson City from an injured Williams. Gilbert gloated about hitting his finisher and took his time to make a cover. He finally did, but Williams kicked out at 2¾. Gilbert was punching away at Williams, but the challenger responded with punches of his own. He picked up Gilbert for a second press slam. Rather than showcasing his great strength, Williams decided to drop Gilbert straight-down to the mat, dropping him on his face and busting the champion open. Williams went for the Oklahoma Stampede a few moments later, but Sherri got up on the apron to distract Marlin, which allowed Doug Gilbert to sneak in, and clip Williams’ leg. As Sherri got off the apron, Doug fled up the aisle to avoid any suspicion from Marlin. Doug gloated about his interference, but he was soon surprised by “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan and Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy, who defeated Doug earlier in the card. The two new allies clobbered Doug from behind. Doug quickly fled to the back. The World Tag Team champions Mr. Fuji and Mr. Saito attempted to come out, but Gordy and Duggan blocked the way, with Duggan holding his 2X4 high! Meanwhile, back in the ring, Gilbert took control again. He went up to the second rope and came off with an elbow drop, but the challenger rolled out of the way, and the champion crashed hard. Both wrestlers were down, as Marlin put the count on them. Both men got to their feet by six, but the challenger struck first with a thunderous football tackle. “Dr. Death” covered Gilbert and scored the pinfall. Marlin called for the bell and awarded Williams his record-breaking fifth Southern Heavyweight championship! Duggan and Gordy came down to the ring to celebrate the occasion with Williams! The “Music City” fans went wild at seeing Williams’ big victory! ***¾

Great action in Nashville and what a win by Red Pepper over King Kong Bundy & Big John Studd. I don't want to call it an upset as Red Bastien & Pepper Gomez are top ranked wrestlers but due to the size difference you could call it an upset. The return of Ox Baker after such a long absence is great news. I am really looking forward to what the "Master of the Heart Punch" will bring to Hot Stuff International. The main event was awesome with Steve Williams beating Eddie Gilbert for a record fifth Southern Heavyweight title. It was great to see Duggan and Gordy counter all of that outside interference paving the way for "Dr. Death" to claim the title. Another great night of USWA action is in the books.

Thanks to Troy and Crue Fan for the comments! The USWA presents the first ever Derby City Stampede, the night before the “Greatest Two Minutes in Sports”—the Kentucky Derby, on Friday, May 1 at the Horse Show Pavilion of the Kentucky State Fairgrounds in Louisville! From beginning to end, here is the lineup for this supercard!Double X vs. George South The masked ally of Doctor X has scored quick wins in his few USWA appearances so far. He cannot underestimate South, who has scored singles upsets in the past over former USWA World champions “The Nebraska Tiger Man” John Pesek and “Playboy” Buddy Rose. Who will win this bout? Big John Studd & King Kong Bundy vs. Hillbilly Jim & Cousin Luke The popular hillbillies have frustrated that First Family of Wrestling tag team, by defeating them twice via disqualification. Can Jim and Luke score a decisive win or will the giants finally get a win? Tracy Smothers vs. Larry Sharpe Mid-America Heavyweight champion Smothers will be in non-title competition, right before he makes his next defense against “The Anarchist” Arik Cannon on May 10 in Memphis. Like his tag team partner George South, Sharpe has gotten some upset wins in the past, even defeating a champion with a pinfall on then-Texas champion Chris Candido back in November 2010 in Louisville. Smothers has not suffered a decisive loss in 2015. Can “Pretty Boy” Sharpe score the upset over the popular Southerner? The PYT Express vs. S.D. Jones & Jim Powers This will be the first tag team match for the new team of Sweet Brown Sugar and D’Lo Brown. Sugar brought Brown into the USWA to battle the Midnight Express. Sugar is a three-time former World Tag Team champion with “Sweet” Stan Lane, but will his new team have similar success? Arik Cannon vs. Claudio Castagnoli The former tag team partners have had some competitive battles since Cannon arrived in the area this past fall. Cannon has got his first championship bout upcoming on May 10 with Tracy Smothers for the USWA Mid-America Heavyweight title, but he cannot look past former Mid-America champion Castagnoli. Who will win the latest chapter in this battle? The New Age Outlaws vs. The Age of the Fall Jimmy Jacobs and Tyler Black are looking to make more of an impact and become the new “leaders” of the USWA. A win over the two-time former World Tag Team champions would definitely get them some notice. “The Road Dogg” Jesse James and Billy Gunn are undefeated so far in 2015 and defeated the current Tag Team champions Mr. Fuji and Mr. Saito two weeks ago in Tupelo via countout. Which team will get the win in the “Derby City”? “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan vs. Ox Baker Former World Tag Team and Texas champion Baker returned to the scene at the end of March by attacking Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy during a bout with World Tag Team champion Mr. Saito in Jackson. Baker joined Hot Stuff, International to aid in their battles both with Gordy, Duggan, and new Southern Heavyweight champion Steve “Dr. Death” Williams, as well as Doctor X’s unit. Baker made his in-ring return a few days ago in Nashville. He impressed in his return, but his opponent Duggan will be a bigger challenge! This should be a physical brawl! Brian Kendrick & Paul London vs. David Taylor & Fit Finlay (30-Minute Iron Men Match) These two teams have had great match-ups this last year. Their battles got intense, that it lead to Kendrick and London getting frustrated and injuring Finlay’s ribs back in November in Memphis, which lead to the high-flying fan favorites getting suspended for 12 cards. Kendrick and London took Taylor and Finlay to the limit a few weeks ago in Lexington, going to a draw in the British team’s choice of match, in eight rounds of World of Sport rules. Commissioner Bob Armstrong made this match to hopefully bring some finality to this feud. This will be the first Iron Men Match in USWA history. Dave Brown went over the rules for an Iron Men Match on 4-25 edition of USWA Championship Wrestling: I. This particular Iron Men Match will last at least 30 minutes. The referee can only stop the match before the 30 minutes in case of a severe injury or incident. II. Since this is a tag team match, standard tag team match rules apply; wrestlers must tag in to be designated the legal man, a wrestler tagged out has five seconds to exit the ring, etc. III. A wrestler can earn a win by any of the standard ways: 1) Pinfall 2) Submission 3) Countout 4) Disqualification In the case of a double disqualification or countout, each wrestler would earn a win. IV. After each win, the referee will separate the two wrestlers before the action continues. The legal men must start the next fall. V. At the end of the 30 minutes, the team with the most wins will win the match. VI. For this particular Iron Men Match, Commissioner Armstrong has added the stipulation that in the case of a tie at the end of the 30 minutes, a sudden death overtime will take place, where the team to score the first win (of any type) will win the match. Which team will outlast the other? Eddie Gilbert vs. Doctor X This will be the first one-on-one meeting between these two rulebreakers, although their units have been feuding for some time. Gilbert is coming off the loss of the Southern Heavyweight title back to Steve “Dr. Death” Williams on the last card in Nashville, so you can bet he will be angry and gunning for a win. However, the masked grappler X would love to get back into the singles title picture as well. Which villain will leave Louisville the winner? Nick Bockwinkel vs. Larry Hennig This feud was started back in July in Springfield, when Hennig made a surprise return after 3½ years away from the USWA. He ambushed his former ally Bockwinkel and joined the First Family of Wrestling. He has since cost Bockwinkel opportunities to regain the USWA World Heavyweight championship. Bockwinkel made some “poetic justice” by costing Hennig a match with Ed “Strangler” Lewis in Tupelo a couple of weeks ago. So far, these two have had two singles matches and “The Axe” has been victorious in both. Can Bockwinkel get his first win over the big Minnesotan or will Hennig continue to cause Bockwinkel headaches? Mr. Fuji & Mr. Saito vs. Mad Dog & Butcher Vachon (USWA World Tag Team Championship—No-Disqualification Match) These two teams met for the first time back in November in Memphis, with the Japanese team’s titles on the line. Fuji and Saito won the bout by disqualification, as well as a title rematch the next month. Despite two losses, the Vachons gave the champions two bouts both times. The teams battled in a non-title match in January in Chattanooga with the Vachons getting a DQ win this time. Seeing the wildness of their bouts, Commissioner Armstrong assigned two referees to their bout in February in Johnson City, which the Vachons won, marking the first time one team had defeated the other decisively. The non-title win earned the Vachons another championship bout in March in Evansville. Fuji and Saito appeared to be close to a win, but Fuji got caught throwing salt in Butcher’s eyes, leading to another DQ win for the Algerians. Due to so many disqualification endings in their meetings, Commissioner Armstrong has made this a No-Disqualification Match! As the name suggests, there will be no disqualifications nor countouts; the match can only be decided by a pinfall or a submission. Since this is a tag team match, the wrestlers will need to tag in-and-out to determine legal men. While Fuji and Saito just tied the record for the most defenses of the World Tag Team titles, the Vachons have the advantage in that they have scored the only decisive win in their four-man tag team matches. Can the Vachons capture the titles for the first time or will the Japanese duo break the record and be the sole team with the most defenses? Rick Rude vs. Ed “Strangler” Lewis (Main Event—USWA World Heavyweight Championship) Lewis last lost the USWA World title to Lou Thesz on December 31, 2011 in Nashville at New Year’s Knockout VIII. He never received a rematch, but announced in 2012 that he would become Thesz’s manager. Lewis managed and occasionally wrestled for three years, but announced in this same city back in February that he was returning to regular wrestling and that he wanted another shot at the World title. While he has been undefeated so far, he will have a tough challenge in the World champion. Rude defeated Thesz three times in 2014, which is the most any wrestler in the USWA had ever done. Lewis and Rude wrestled twice in singles bouts in 2008, with the “Strangler” getting the wins both times. Rude claimed on Championship Wrestling on 4-25 that with his current manager “The Mouth of The South” Jimmy Hart, that history won’t repeat itself and that he will prove Lewis is old news! Lewis will have the advantage of his hometown fans cheering for him! Can Lewis break his own record and capture his seventh title or will Rude ruin his comeback? That’s Derby City Stampede, coming your way from Louisville on Friday, May 1!
