Pariah - After great delay, we are back with Final Battle. ROH will never be the same!
Final Battle 2017
December 30, 2017
New York City
Kevin Kelly welcomed the pay-per-view audience to the Hammerstein Ballroom. He was joined on commentary by “The Last Real Man In Professional Wrestling”, Silas Young. Kevin had been broadcasting solo since his partner Steve Corino was taken out by Punishment a month ago. As the two discussed the line-up for the night’s show, a commotion interrupted them. Coming up the aisle were Mark Briscoe and BJ Whitmer trading punches and making their way toward the ring. A referee chased after them and called for the bell, starting the impromptu match.
“It looks like we’re getting the show off to a fast start, Kevin,” Silas remarked.
“Indeed we are. We have an unscheduled contest, folks!”BJ Whitmer def. Mark Briscoe by pin
Briscoe gave the crowd a lot to cheer about as he beat Whitmer from pillar to post. BJ proved his toughness by twice kicking out after Mark’s Froggy Bow as well as a Cut-Throat Driver. It looked like Whitmer’s ticket was finally about to get punched as Briscoe scaled the turnbuckles a third time but BJ’s Punishment cohort, Delirious, came out and sprayed Mark with Red Mist causing him to topple from the top rope. Whitmer pounced, planting Briscoe with an Adrenaline Spike for the three count. Mark’s brother, Jay, ran out before the Punishment pair could do any further damage.
Matt Taven def. Dalton Castle by pin
After Castle and Taven had made their entrances, Kevin Kelly asked Silas Young what he thought of the two of them.
“Are you kidding me, Kevin? These guys look like a couple of sissies. I’m half expecting them to have a slap fight instead of a wrestling match.”Castle came out aggressively and got a couple of pin attempts before Taven turned the tide and quickly pinned Dalton after a frog splash from the top rope.
The Young Bucks def. Roppongi Vice by pin
The Bucks come out to a great reaction from the crowd. RPG Vice, their rivals from Japan, try to make a case for this being for the titles but it was not to be. Nick Jackson started out against Rocky Romero. Rocky tried taking advantage during the Code of Honor but Nick was ready for him. It did not take long for the Bucks to make short work of Romero as Matt Jackson got the pin after a Meltzer Driver.
“Is this Ring of Honor or the playground at some elementary school?” Silas asked.
“This is where men fight, not play tickle-butt.”#1 Contender ROH World Television ChampionshipChristopher Daniels def. Will Ferrara, Rhett Titus and Chris Sabin These four competitors were vying for the next shot at the ROH World Television Championship. Daniels and Sabin got this one rolling. Sabin was in total control until he took a breather and tagged in Titus. Daniels quickly rallied with a flurry of punches and tagged out to Ferrara. Rhett and Will took turns smashing each other before Rhett tagged Sabin back in. Sabin was unsuccessful with a pin attempt after Cradle Shock. A superkick by Sabin couldn't get the job done either. Cradle Shock again but Ferrara was too close to the ropes. Will started to fight back so Sabin tagged out to Daniels. “The Fallen Angel” immediately capitalized with Angel’s Wings for the victory. He would be facing either Jay Lethal or Kenny King for the tv title on an upcoming episode of Ring of Honor Television.
Fight Without HonorTwo Fisted (Adam Page & Joey Daddiego) def. War Machine by referee stoppage
The rivalry between War Machine and Two Fisted took a serious turn when Page and Daddiego tried hanging Raymond Rowe with Adam’s noose. Now things would be settled in a Fight Without Honor.
“When men have a problem with each other, you get out of the way and let them fight,” Silas stated.
“And make no mistake, Adam and Joey are men. They are as tough as they come. That’s why we’re the World Six-Man champions. I have no doubt they’ll win this one.”In a shocking turn of events, Page and Daddiego decimated War Machine in sudden and violent fashion. Page charged Hanson and both men toppled over the top rope and to the floor, leaving Daddiego and Rowe to slug it out. Joey caught Rowe in a Texas CLoverleaf. After KO-ing Hanson with the ring bell, Page joined his partner and slipped his noose around Rowe’s neck. As Daddiego cranked on the Cloverleaf, Page put the rope over his shoulder and pulled in the opposite direction. It was not long before Rowe was unconscious and the referee stopped the match. It took additional officials to get Two Fisted to release their victim
“That’s what I’m talking about, Kevin!” Silas crowed.
“What a disgusting display! You act like you're proud of what your two friends just did here.”“I can’t lie, Kevin. I am,” Silas chuckled.
After intermission, Kevin Kelly was joined by Kazarian, replacing Silas Young.
“Welcome, Frankie,” Kevin greeted his co host for the second half.
“Happy to be here, Kevin.”ROH WORLD TELEVISION CHAMPIONSHIPJay Lethal(c) def. Kenny King by submission
Kevin Kelly put forth a question for Kazarian:
“Kenny King has spent a lot of his ROH career as a tag team specialist much like you have. Are there any challenges for a tag team wrestler adapting to singles competition? And at such a high level.”“Well, Kevin, as you know, I was a singles wrestler for a big part of my career as well. And we all were trained as single wrestlers, not tag teams. Everyone who has the talent to be in Ring of Honor can stand on their own as a singles competitor. Kenny King should give Lethal a run for his money.”King got the best of Lethal for the first half of the match but was unable to put the TV champion in any real jeopardy. Once Lethal was able to get on his game, King looked outclassed. Jay delivered a lot of punishment during out of the ring action, including striking Kenny’s knee against the ring post more than once. This led to Lethal applying a figure four leg lock that King was unable to escape.
Kenny Omega def. Jay Briscoe by pin
Briscoe had been verbally disgruntled about being booked in this match rather than in the main event for the world title and was in no mood for Omega’s eccentric antics. Kenny’s erratic behavior served him as he caught Jay off guard with an eye rake. After a string of offense, Omega got a two count with a Kotaro Krusher. Even though his opponent kicked out, Kenny was already in position for the One Winged Angel. The ref counted three, ending this match quickly and decisively. Omega played to the crowd as Jay showed his anger and frustration at being so easily defeated.
“Jay Briscoe didn’t have his head in the game,” Kazarian commented.
“This is one of those situations where he may have beat himself.”The mood in the Hammerstein Ballroom darkened as Damien Martinez came to the ring, led by the leader of Punishment, Kevin Sullivan. ROH World Champion, Adam Cole, came out shortly after, not his usual cocky self. Rather, he looked intensely focused, with maybe a hint of anxiety showing under his game face. His Affluence partner, Matt Taven, was trying to motivate him as they came down the aisle. There was an eerie calm in the building as the participants faced each other from across the ring, waiting for introductions. Veda Scott slipped down to ringside and sat with Kevin and Kazarian at the announce position, cheerfully greeting the two men. Kevin grilled Veda about Martinez, questioning him getting a title shot, considering his actions in ROH, let alone his string of disqualification losses. Kazarian echoed Kevin’s thoughts. Veda matter-of-factly explained that this was the main event of the biggest show of the year that the fans wanted and deserved.
ROH WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP Adam Cole w/Matt Taven def. Damien Martinez w/Kevin Sullivan by pin
Surprisingly, Martinez extended his hand for the Code of Honor, sporting a demonic grin. Cole warily shook his hand, pulling away almost immediately. The bell rang and, after a flash of offense, the champion stunned the challenger with a superkick. Not wasting a moment, Cole wrapped up Martinez with a Florida Key and pinned his shoulders to the mat in stunning fashion.
Jubilantly, Cole threw his hands in the the air - “Adam Cole Bay-Bay!!” Taven joined him in the ring, celebrating as the ref handed Cole his title belt. Martinez shook his head to clear it as Sullivan barked orders to him. Striking with a double clothesline from behind, he knocked Cole and Taven to the mat. BJ Whitmer and Delirious rushed out and slid into the ring. Punishment surrounded Affluence who had no choice but to fight back. Delirious blinded Taven with Red Mist, leaving Cole to fend for himself. Unexpectedly, the Briscoes came to Cole’s rescue. Dem Boys attacked Punishment with a fury. Jay swung a chair, knocking Martinez and Whitmer from the ring, then laid into Delirious. Jay shouted to Mark who hopped to the floor and pulled a table out from under the ring. Intending to give Punishment a taste of their own medicine, Jay drove Delirious through the table with a Jay Driller. Leaving the masked man in a heap among the debris of the shattered table, Jay pulled another table out and set it up. He pointed Mark to the top turnbuckle as he positioned Whitmer on the the table. Mark was getting ready to hit the Froggy Bow but BJ kicked free and started slugging it out with Jay. When Mark moved to join his brother, Whitmer bolted. He jumped the barrier, looking to escape through the crowd. The Briscoes gave chase and all three were soon out of camera range.
Cole watched as he leaned against the ropes. He failed to notice that Martinez was back in the ring, standing behind him, waiting for Cole to turn around. Once Adam realized he was still in danger, he dropped to his knees, begging off a’la Ric Flair. He wrongly expected mercy of Martinez, who began pounding the hell out of him. And as so many times before, Sullivan readied a table at ringside for Martinez to destroy yet another man. The crowd was tense, perhaps even sympathizing with the hated world champion. As Damien pulled Cole out to the apron, one final chance at reprieve arrived in the form of Cole’s other Affluence teammate, Jay Lethal. Jumping into the ring, Lethal moved to intercede. Cole reached towards Jay with a with a free hand.
“Jay! Jay!”But Lethal held back at the last moment.
“Jay..?”Cole’s eyes went wide as Martinez hoisted him up. Lethal just watched. Another shattered table and another shattered ROH star. This time the world champion. Martinez and Sullivan looked to Lethal, prepared for him to make a move but Jay backed off and left the way he came.
Kevin Kelly, who was very vocal as all of this was happening, turned on Veda.
“I hope you’re happy about this, Veda Scott! This is deplorable!”“Kevin, you need to calm down. If you can’t act professional, maybe we need to have a talk at the office Monday morning.”“I have no interest in talking to you. As a matter of fact, I can’t even stand to be in your presence!”Kevin tore off his headphones and left in a huff.
“Well, Frankie,” Veda inquired, unruffled.
“Are you looking for a career change? It looks like we’re going to need a new commentator.”At a lack for words, Kazarian just shook his head as the pay per view concluded.
