Pariah , cruefan68 , Vegas - Wow! I can't believe I haven't posted anything for this fed in about 6 months. Time flies when you don't have much time, I guess. So here's a recap of what's been going on in case you don't feel like rereading the more recent posts: The main storyline has been Marty Scurll playing mind games with EVOLVE Champion, Roderick Strong. Scurll has gone so far as to kidnap Strong's manager, SoCal Val and injure Roddy with his Chickenwing hold. PJ Black returned to help his old partner and agreed to defend the title for Roddy as interim champion. Drew Gulak has formed the Gulak Shoot Acadamy with Tracy Williams, Fred Yehi, and Will Ospreay. Drew has been critical of his students, in particular Ospreay, who's high flying style does not sit well with Gulak and his "shoot" philosophy. Matt Riddle has joined the Premiere Athlete Brand of Anthony Nese and Caleb Konley. DGUSA Open The Freedom Gate Champions, the Bravado Brothers, recently assaulted Riddle with a steel chair and he thought Konley should have done more to prevent it. Those are the major goings-on. Onto a new show! 78 Matt Riddle was in the ring to start the show and asked his Premiere Athlete Brand teammates to join him. Anthony Nese and Caleb Konley answered his request as they came out with questioning looks. Riddle recapped what happened on the last show when he and Konley took on the DGUSA Open The United Gate Champions, the Bravado Brothers. Lancelot Bravado had struck Matt with a steel chair as his brother was about to tap out to a submission hold. Riddle proposed that the PAB call out the Bravados tonight so they could get some payback. The fans backed Riddle but Nese brought the mood down, saying that they would deal with the Bravados when the titles were on the line. “You’re going to let them get away with that?” Riddle asked. “Seriously, bro. That’s not cool. I could have got PCS from what they did.”Nese shook his head and essentially blew off Riddle. It was apparent that Tony was exerting his authority as leader of the PAB and motioned for them to leave. Riddle stubbornly remained behind. “Bravados, get your asses out here!”The Bravados appeared after making Riddle wait. Matt told Lance to get in the ring because he had a receipt coming. Matt Riddle def. Lancelot Bravado w/Harlem BravadoAfter getting thrown to the mat a couple of times and taking multiple knee strikes, Lancelot bailed out of the ring when Riddle tried putting him in a Fujiwara armbar. Matt applied a Heel Hook soon after and Lance tapped out. Harlem made a move like he was going to get into the ring and Riddle stood back, inviting him to come get some as well. The Bravados had had enough and left. Team Tremendous def. Drew Gulak & Tracy Williams w/GSAGulak was embarrassed when he and Will Ospreay last faced Dan Barry and Bill Carr on EVOLVE 77. The GSA had a similar result back on EVOLVE 69. In both cases Gulak never tagged in his partner. This time Williams started the match for the GSA. “Hot Sauce” did not fare well, as the detectives beat the tar out of him, especially Carr, who used his size to crush Williams. Team Tremendous hit their finisher, Book ‘Em Danno, but Tracy miraculously kicked out. Bill hit a Carr-Nadian Destroyer, drawing Gulak in to make the save. A Fallaway Slam Moonsualt by Barry resulted in a pin, giving Team Tremendous another overwhelming win against the GSA. This time it was Gulak who did not see any action and he was not happy about it. The GSA remained at ringside as Gulak sent Will Ospreay into the ring for the next match. Will Ospreay w/GSA def. Timothy ThatcherOspreay set a rapid pace as he kept Thatcher off balance with an array of flashy takedowns. The methodical Thatcher was not able to adjust to Will’s attack and fell to an Essex Destroyer. Ospreay was hyped about his second straight win in EVOLVE and was celebratory, pumping up the crowd. Gulak glared at him from ringside, ordering him to the floor as he sent Fred Yehi in for his match. Zack Sabre Jr. def. Fred Yehi w/GSASabre schooled Yehi on EVOLVE 77. Yehi performed much better in this rematch. Fred was on top after the opening exchange, stunning Sabre, and the crowd, with a trio of brutal power bombs. Sabre recovered and took over. Zack seemed to toy with his opponent for a good stretch, riling Gulak at ringside. Yehi turned things around and started to really punish Sabre. Fred racked up some pin attempts including one with his Uzumaki Special. Zack may have realized he had been taking Yehi lightly and flipped a switch, becoming all business. It wasn’t long until he blasted Yehi with a rolling elbow smash, effectively taking Yehi out with his own finisher. Drew Gulak got into the ring and summoned the rest of the GSA to join him. He had Yehi and Ospreay stand in front of him. “Fred, I hate to say it, man, but you’ve let me down in your last couple of matches. You’re relying too much on striking. When you brawl with a brawler, you give him a chance to get a lucky shot in. But if you shoot, you can control the match. And, Will? I don’t know what it’s going to take to make you understand. All of that flash and trash is holding you back…”“But I won, mate!” was Ospreay's flustered retort. “Shut your mouth. I’m speaking now - you're listening. You’ve both won some matches and showed promise but you have a long way to go. Fred, your first night in EVOLVE, the two of you had a match. Now, it’s time for a progress check. I’ve arranged for you two to have a match tomorrow night. You need to show me that you understand the philosophy of the GSA. Any questions…? Good. Best of luck tomorrow night, gentlemen.”Marty Scurll def. Drew GallowayScurll got the jump on Drew with a quick finger snap. As Galloway clutched his injured digits, Marty gave him a pumphandle neckbreaker for a two count. Scurll positioned himself behind his opponent and shouted “CHICKENWING!” and applied his finisher. Drew struggled long moments in the submission hold before reaching the ropes for the break. Marty pushed him to the floor with his boot and went for a suicide dive. Galloway caught him and proceeded to batter him at ringside, becoming so incensed that he picked up a chair and used it, risking disqualification. Back in the ring, Scurll went on a major tear, doing a lot of damage to Galloway, including trapping him in the Crossface Chickenwing once more. “The Villain” changed tactics and put Drew in the Cattle Mutilation and that was the end for Galloway, giving Scurll his biggest win to date in EVOLVE. EVOLVE CHAMPIONSHIPPJ Black w/Roderick Strong def. RicochetBlack was defending the EVOLVE title as interim champion for Roderick Strong who was out with an injury suffered at the hands of Marty Scurll. Roddy accompanied Black to the ring, the EVOLVE belt slung over his good shoulder. They conferred a moment before Black entered the ring to face Ricochet, who many have said was long overdue for shot at the title. Black put the pressure on early, trying to ground his high-flying opponent. PJ went to the top rope but Ricochet caught him with a superplex and followed with Chocolate Rain for a very near fall. “Come on, PJ!” Roderick barked from ringside. Ricochet went to the top again and dove at Black. The momentum carried the two backwards, colliding with the referee who went down like a sack of crap. Black unleashed a series of high impact kicks, with Ricochet leaving the ring to take refuge. As he was taking a breather and PJ tended to the referee, it looked like Strong was trying to sneak up behind Ricochet with ill intent but nothing came of it. The two participants went on competitively for a while longer. Black landed a big missile dropkick and went for a cover. Ricochet got his foot on the bottom rope but Roderick knocked it off before the ref could see it. The fall was counted for a successful title defense. Ricochet protested to no avail. The ref handed the belt to Black but Strong hurried into the ring and ripped it out of his hands, raising it overhead as if he had won the match. (And in a way he kind of did.) PJ gave him a disapproving sidelong glance but said nothing. The one question that remained was, where was Marty Scurll, who had been making a habit of showing up during Strong’s segments?

A nice return for Evolve and though it has been six months I certainly remember the Roderick Strong-Marty Scurll-SoCal Val angle. What a crazy twist in the main event with Strong retaining the title using a sub in PJ Black. Ricochet certainly has something to complain about and what an arrogant move by Strong tearing the title away from Black. Huge win for Scurll over Drew Galloway and I must admit it was strange to see Scurll absent during the main event. Even six months off this story has legs, looking forward to what is to come.

Could not be more happy to see things ramping back up to a fever pitch in Evolve... And it looks like our friend, cruefan68, has touched on most of the major points... Would like to add that I enjoyed watching Riddle take the fight to the Bravado Bro's without the full backing of his PAB cohorts... Showing this new talent is not to be taken lightly... Enjoyed your recap leading into the show... It's funny because as soon as you posted that you would be returning to these feds, I came back and gave myself a quick refresher so I would remember what was going on... Fun times!

Some really fun stuff here with Black taking the main event Team Tremendous winning as well as Scurll also makes me happy. Keep the dice dizzy.

cruefan68 , Pariah , TTX - It's great to get back into some EVOLVE action. Marty Scurll is currently one of my faves (despite joining Bullet Club) and I have a lot of fun writing for him. Crue, I introduced the interim champion idea for the story to avoid Roderick Strong being stripped of the title. And since EVOLVE at one time seemed to adopt a faux MMA model, I figured it's something that would make sense for them to do here. This one is a little longer than I normally like my EVOLVE write ups to be but we have a lot going on. Thanks for the comments! 79 Drew Galloway def. PJ Black w/Roderick StrongThe show opened with a first time in EVOLVE meeting between Galloway and interim EVOLVE Champion, PJ Black. Roderick Strong accompanied Black, holding the title belt he is currently unable to defend due to injury. Roddy verbally antagonized Drew until PJ asked him to tone it down. Strong’s mouth wound up getting Black in trouble as Galloway took out his anger on him. Drew tossed Black to the floor where Roddy once again ran his yap. Drew’s answer was to lay a steel chair shot across PJ’s back. Black barely kicked out after a Double Arm DDT by Galloway. Strong continued to upbraid Drew who tossed Black out onto the floor at Roddy’s feet. Roderick urged Black to get into the fight. It was at this point that the scene turned bizarre. Everyone’s attention shifted to the curtain where “The Villain” Marty Scurll stood, holding onto a woman whose arms were bound behind her back. Over her head was a hood that hid her face as she struggled in Scurll’s grip. Strong reacted, dropping the EVOLVE belt and racing to them as Marty hurried his captive back through the curtain. Black was left alone to continue his match against Galloway. He survived a second Double Arm DDT by Drew. PJ made a spirited comeback, letting loose with high flying offense. Galloway withstood the barrage and caught PJ as he went to the top rope, bringing him down with a spider German suplex for another near fall. Ego Trip for a two count and Black was still in it. Scot Drop resulted in a three count and Galloway made a mark, defeating the interim champion. As PJ lay on the canvas, Drew picked up the EVOLVE title and clutched it, nodding intently. With his attention focused on the prize, he failed to notice Marty Scurl return to the ring area. Neither Roderick Strong nor “The Villain’s” hostage were anywhere to be seen. Scurll cracked Galloway in the back of the head with his umbrella, dropping him to the canvas. Marty grabbed the title belt and made a hasty exit. Premiere Athlete Brand def. Drew Gulak & Tracy Williams w/GSANese and Konley of the Premiere Athlete Brand took on Gulak and Williams as the Gulak Shoot Academy tried to rebound from a losing streak in tag team competition. Will Ospreay and Fred Yehi were in the GSA corner. Matt Riddle did not come out with his PAB teammates. Nese started out against Williams and went for an early 450 Splash. Tracy kicked out at one and Gulak breathed a sigh of relief. Konley tagged, stifling a comeback by Williams and hit the Home Wrecker for the win. Gulak was disgusted as, once again, the GSA lose as a team with only one man spending time in the ring. Gulak ordered Yehi and Ospreay into the ring for their “progress check” match, then barked at Williams to get them some chairs to watch from. Fred Yehi def. Will OspreayThis match was totally one-sided as Yehi demolished Ospreay with suplexes. Every time Will tried to land a strike, Fred countered with a Yehi Special. Gulak sat at ringside completely flustered by Ospreay’s performance. Yehi took it home with an Uzumaki Special. Gulak got into the ring and scrutinized his students. He complimented Fred on his suplex technique but cut him right back down by criticising him for finishing the match with a strike instead of a hold. “What happened to that Koji Clutch you’ve been working on?” Yehi didn't know how to respond but the heat was soon off of him and directed at Ospreay. Drew reiterated that this was a progress check and stated that he didn’t see any progress from Ospreay. “As a matter of fact, I think you’ve regressed.”Will had reached his limit with Gulak running him down. “Bollocks to this,” he declared, getting out of the ring and walking out. Gulak sneered as Will left through the curtain. “Go ahead and leave. I’m done wasting my time on you throwing away your potential.”“Hey, Drew,” spoke a familiar voice over the PA system. “Why don’t you give the kid a break. As a matter of fact, why don’t you give us all a break.”Gulak’s head swiveled back and forth, looking for the source of the interruption. The audience popped when Chris Hero stepped through the curtain. Once the crowd noise died down, Hero addressed the increasingly agitated Gulak. “I go away for a few months and when I come back, Drew Gulak is suddenly the wrestling guru? What is this? Bizarro-world? Does he have you guys doing a stupid handshake yet?” Hero got into the ring and Gulak was quick to join him and rebuke Chris’ remarks. Hero didn’t sweat Drew’s aggressive posture. “Rather than take these guys and hone their natural talent and ability, you’re trying to make them adapt to your outdated idea of what a professional wrestler should be. You let an outstanding talent like Will Ospreay walk out on you? You’re not cut out for the mentoring thing.” Hero’s words caused Gulak to bristle more. “And you, Yehi, you like using that roaring elbow; who could teach you how to perfect that better than me?”Gulak stepped to Chris demanding “Who in the hell do you think you are?”“Who am I?” Chris smiled. “I’m the guy who trained YOU, Drew. And school’s out, bitch!”Hero suddenly lashed out with a rolling elbow, KO-ing Gulak. As Williams saw to his partner, Hero held the ropes open for Yehi, inviting him to join him. Fred looked down at Gulak a moment, then departed with Hero. Matt Riddle def. Harlem Bravado w/Lancelot BravadoRiddle continued his vendetta against the Open The United Gate Champions, the Bravado Brothers, having defeated Lancelot on EVOLVE 78. Once again, Matt was without his fellow Premiere Athlete Brand teammates, apparently going it alone again with both Bravados present. The match started with a volley of counters but Riddle’s superior grappling skills were more than Harlem could handle. Bravado left the ring to regroup but Riddle wasn’t having it. Matt’s impatience cost him though, as Lance handed one of the championship belts to his brother who struck Riddle with it. Bravado didn’t have the upper hand long as Riddle reasserted his dominance. Lance jumped in the ring and the Bravados double teamed Riddle, giving him the Gentleman’s Agreement and left him lying in the ring. Roderick Strong came through the curtain guiding Marty Scurll’s still bound and hooded captive. Strong had liberated “The Villain’s” prisoner and set about untying her. With her hands free, she pulled off the hood, revealing her identity. It was not Strong’s abducted manager SoCal Val as everyone was expecting but WWN ring announcer Kid Cadet. Strong was infuriated and took off to the back again. Lenny Leonard was appalled on commentary: “The Villain used WWN’s own Kid Cadet for one of his sick mind games with Roderick Strong! Marty Scurll is a monster!”Team Tremendous def. Timothy Thatcher & Zack Sabre Jr.This match was an odd pairing of very technical versus very nonsensical. Detective Dan Barry started against Thatcher and looked good, employing high impact moves and getting a near fall with an implant DDT. Bill Carr tagged in and Team Tremendous combined for Book ‘Em Danno, pinning Thatcher. The detectives racked up another impressive win, essentially giving Sabre the night off, as he saw no action. Larry Dallas was backstage talking on his cell phone. “Yeah. Things are getting out of control here, man. Ha, ha! I know! I think we’re almost ready. Whoa, whoa, I gotta go…”PJ Black appeared. “Larry, have you seen Roderick back here?” Larry shakes his head, uncaring. “I’ve got to find him. Oh, and Larry? Sorry for what we did to you, brother. But you understand, don’t you. Val could be in real danger.”“Yeah, yeah. Everything's cool. No hard feelings…” But PJ was already rushing off. Larry watched him leave, an ominous look on his face. Ricochet def. Marty ScurlRoderick Strong tried barging in during the introductions of the main event but EVOLVE officials kept him at bay, thankful that his injury prevented him from going full bore. Scurll laughed like a madman and flapped his arms as Roddy struggled against the officials impeding him. The match itself was a total spotfest with very little selling. Ricochet was ridiculous with his aerial offense and Scurll was at his villainous best. Chocolate Rain by Ricochet brought this exciting, yet over-the-top, match to it’s conclusion. EVOLVE TOP 10Champion - Roderick Strong - Ricochet
- Marty Scurll
- Drew Galloway
- PJ Black
- Zack Sabre Jr.
- Fred Yehi
- Will Ospreay
- Matt Riddle
- Timothy Thatcher
- Lancelot Bravado

The mind games being played by Scurll grow more twisted by the minute and it looks like Galloway is now another piece on the board... However, none of this made a difference in the main event because Ricochet scores a spectacular victory over the Villain... The title scene becomes more interesting by the moment...
Also very cool to see Hero bursting Gulak's bubble... Gonna be fun to watch this angle develop...
Pleased that Riddle continues to look sharp in the ring... And a mighty impressive win for Team Tremendous as well...
Another awesome show!

cruefan68 , Pariah , TTX - Dang! I left you guys hanging on your comments from the last show, oh, 3 months ago. Sorry about that. Well, here we go with some more EVOLVE insanity! 80 The show opened with Drew Galloway saying that he had requested tonight’s rematch with PJ Black because of the way their match at EVOLVE 79 went with the involvement of Marty Scurll and Roderick Strong. PJ came out and thanked Drew for the consideration. Galloway then vowed that if anyone stuck their nose in this time, the two of them would bend it for them. PJ laughed and they shook hands. With that, EVOLVE Champion Roderick Strong came out sans his title belt. Marty Scurll had absconded with it during said match at EVOLVE 79. Strong eyed the two men in the ring, clearly angry about something. “Hey, PJ. You and your new buddy can have a feel good moment later. Where’s my belt?”PJ had been acting as interim EVOLVE Champion while Strong was recovering from a shoulder injury. However, it was Roddy who was in possession of the belt before Scurll made off with it. Black tried to explain this to Strong but Roddy wasn’t listening to reason. “I better get that belt back. Or we’re going to have a problem.”Strong left and Black was at a loss. Galloway told him to forget about it and that they were about to have a great match for the EVOLVE fans. Drew Galloway def. PJ BlackDespite the friendly gesture, Galloway held nothing back. There was a little bit of good natured give and take at first but Drew opened up on PJ then tossed him out to the floor. As Black gathered himself, Drew smiled and told him to take his time. Back in the ring, PJ dodged a charging Galloway who went through the ropes and took a hard bump on the floor. PJ stood back to recover a little as the ref made his count. That’s when Roderick Strong returned and plunged Drew into the ringpost, getting PJ disqualified. Black jumped out to the floor and got in Roddy’s face. “What the hell are you doing?!”Roddy pushed him away and replied, “We are getting my belt back. Now!”Strong marched back to the curtain and the perturbed Black reluctantly fell in line. Galloway picked himself up off the floor and looked around, trying to discern what had happened. Chris Hero & Fred Yehi def. Drew Gulak & Tracy WilliamsThe Gulak Shoot Academy was torn asunder during the last EVOLVE weekend. Will Ospreay quit the team at EVOLVE 78. Then on EVOLVE 79, Chris Hero returned to make things worse by convincing Fred Yehi to dump Gulak and come train with him. Hero had taken exception to the methods Gulak used with his students and KOed Drew with a rolling elbow. There was a lot of posturing before the match got underway. Hero and Gulak let the students start the contest. Williams dominated Yehi and tagged in Gulak who put Fred in the Trailblazer to punish his former student. Yehi reversed a whip into the corner and rattled Gulak with the Blame Bell before making the tag to Hero. Drew and Chris traded the advantage with Hero getting a two count off of a Cravate Buster. Yehi came in and exchanged counters with Drew before hitting the Blame Bell again for a near fall. Hero tagged back in and he and Gulak fought to suplex each other before Drew made the tag to Williams. “Hot Sauce” got a near fall with a shoulder breaker then transitioned into a cross armbreaker that almost had Hero tapping. Gulak and Williams’ experience as a team made a difference and Chris took a lot of damage including Gulak’s University Stretch. Hero was able to turn things around and get the tag. Yehi unloaded on Gulak and caught him in a Koji Clutch. Fred hammered Drew with a series of suplexes before going to the Blame Bell again for the pin. After the bell, Gulak and Williams attacked their opponents and put them in their respective submission finishers until both men were out. Matt Riddle def. Timothy ThatcherThatcher came at Riddle strong, working submissions, including cranking on him for an extended time in the Thatcher Stretch. Riddle got back into it and tried a submission of his own with a Fujiwara armbar. Riddle put on grappling showcase before softening Thatcher up with strikes and going for a Cross Armbreaker. Thatcher held on for a while but had to tap out. Post match, the Bravado Brothers jumped Riddle and beat him down and gave him the Gentleman’s Agreement. Once again, Riddle’s Premiere Athlete Brand teammates were a no show. Before Joanna Rose could announce the next match, Chuck Taylor came out of the crowd and got into the ring and took the mic from her. The fans started chanting “Chuckie T! Chuckie T!” Taylor smiled but it quickly turned to a scowl, as it looked like he had something on his mind. “Hey, EVOLVE. Remember me?” The chant started again but Chuck waved it off. “I bet you’ve been wondering where I’ve been. You probably heard on the internet that Chuck Taylor flaked out on EVOLVE and they weren’t going to bring me back.”At this point, something caught Chuck’s attention and he looked towards the curtain and the backstage area. The camera followed his gaze and EVOLVE owner Gabe Sapolsky could be seen in the shadows and he looked pissed. “Oh, hey, Gabe. Just the person I wanted to talk to.”The agitated Sapolsky yelled for Chuck to get out of the ring. “No, I’m going to be heard. You won’t answer my calls, you won’t respond to my emails, so I’ve come to you. And now everyone gets to hear what I have to say. I know we’re streaming live, so you don’t got a choice.”Gabe was clearly uncomfortable and motioned for the camera to get off him. “When Davey Richards bailed on you, when Bryan Danielson left, who became your top guy? Me. And now that things are going good, you don’t have a spot for ol’ Chuckie T. It really burned you when I became EVOLVE Champion, didn’t it, Gabe? And during that trios thing that you did? Me and the Bravados had that won but suddenly Chuck Taylor had other commitments? How about Chuck Taylor never got booked. What, I’m not a big enough name to be the face of this company? I don’t bring enough prestige to EVOLVE? I’m not… good for business? Ok, fine. But real soon, you're going to wish you treated Chuck Taylor a little better. Because then, I will be the one holding all the cards. Mark my words.”Chuck threw the mic down and exited the way he came in. Zack Sabre Jr def. Marty ScurllScurll and Sabre brought their longstanding rivalry to this side of the Atlantic. Things were nip and tuck for while until Sabre went for his Cross Armbreaker (apparently the hold dejour of the night). Things got rough with some battling on the floor and Sabre was not afraid to play down to Scurll’s level with the dirty tactics. Sabre put Marty in the Cross Armbreaker again and this time it looked like it would seal the deal. That’s when Roderick Strong jumped into the ring to get at Scurll. Zack instinctively released the hold and “The Villain” rolled out of the ring to escape his enemy. Sabre got in Roddy’s way, put off by him interfering in his match. Roddy decked Sabre and tried going after Scurll. Zack shook off the blow and tackled Strong from behind and they started scrapping on the mat. “The Villain” watched and had a good belly laugh until PJ Black emerged and chased him to the back. Sabre was awarded the match by disqualification. Premiere Athlete Brand def. Team TremendousThese two teams were clashing once again with a shot at the DGUSA Open The United Gate Championship on the line. The winner would face the Bravado Brothers at EVOLVE 81. Anthony Nese and Caleb Konley had little trouble rolling over Team Tremendous. The PAB isolated Dan Barry and Konley submitted him with the Oh! Face as Nese blocked his partner Bill Carr from making the save. Roderick Strong def. RicochetStrong was making his in-ring return after spending months on the shelf with a shoulder injury care of “The Villain” Marty Scurll. Roddy had been involved in the controversial finish to Ricochet’s championship match at EVOLVE 78 against interim champion PJ Black. Strong’s interference resulted in a loss for Ricochet who was hoping to get some redemption and perhaps a rematch for the championship by winning this non-title bout. Strong slammed Ricochet hard with a belly to belly suplex and drilled him with a Sick Kick, trying to end it early. Ricochet got a shoulder up and Roddy struck with another Sick Kick and made the cover. Ricochet’s foot was under the rope and the ref caught it. Strong dragged Ricochet to the center of the ring and blew his lungs out with Death By Roderick. The pin followed and the crushing victory let everyone know that the champion was back.
