New player here. Just ordered my COTG ORIGINAL Intro Box Set and very excited to get started. I really like the idea of starting a Fed and posting my experience on the boards here with you all. Outside of the game itself what sort of supplies should I get? Will just a notebook do?
Also, is there a story-line included in the game for you to follow or is it all made up by you? I'm looking for tips from you experienced players on how to run a fun Fed. What would you do if you started all over again? Any/all suggestions welcome!
Thanks all!

There's always a booklet, and you can either go by that or just change things up however you wish.

The classic line around here is, "It's up to you promoter"! The booklet is a great way to get started with feuds and such. But you will find that the dice will determine a lot of what you do.

As a new player starting up your own fed you will need to do the following: 1. Make our own villian/hero groups, if you want to differ from the booklet. 2. Figure out what belts you want in your Fed. 3. Set up tournaments to crown your champions. A lot of us use this site to set up tournaments and run them. challonge.com/tournament/bracket_generator Im not sure what sets your getting, but if I was starting GWF sets over again from scratch I would buy the 2087-2089 years and begin there. That would give you a lot more wreslters to run your tournaments and some really good tag-teams.

That's how I got started back in early 1993. I simply bought the first classic set along with Invasion 2088-2090 sets. That gave me a lot of flexibility to start off my fed. Especially with the tag teams. In my opinion, that was the best way for me to start out.

I am not really a COTG player. I only play LOW and the indy feds but one thing that struck me when I got 2087 was that there WASN'T much storyline spelled out in the booklet. It is pretty basic stuff. It is my understanding that the later sets expanded quite a bit on storylines. At first I found it very frustrating because I didn't feel like I had the guidance on what to do and didn't have past characters and storylines to reference back to - as I do with LOW. But then I started brainstorming and comparing those characters in that initial set to real life wrestlers and imagining what types of things they would say or do. I realized that without constraints you can really create these characters to be whatever you want and that might mean that your versions of these characters are nothing like other peoples' versions. That's actually pretty cool.
One thing I did that was different than a lot of other people was that I started my fed with a champ in place. I thought it felt weird to have a federation that has existed for quite some time to not have any champs in place. If you want to run tournaments to crown new champs maybe create a reason for the need to crown new champs and that could help determine the direction your fed will go to begin with. Once you start rolling the dice will help determine a lot of the stories. You just have to be creative with their results.
Have fun!
