Who remembers who Dreadnaught died in the ring against? Pegasus was poor Dreadnaught's final opponent in my fed.... R.I.P. DREADNAUGHT, Disciple Of Terror will carry your mantle. Vyper. It happened in 2108 (and probably 2008 or so in real time). The experience flipped Vyper from heel to face in my fed. This is how I wrote it up at the time:
DEATH IN THE RING GWF GRIEVES AFTER DREADNAUGHT’S COLLAPSE
The career and the life of former Heavyweight Champion Dreadnaught came to an end on November 14 at the Umbriel Skydome when the long-time GWF superstar collapsed and died during a match against Vyper.
The contest was a Zero Gravity Platform Match, as Dreadnaught had recently found some success in chasing the special matches title. Vyper controlled most of the battle, but Dreadnaught fought well until the six minute mark, when Vyper connected with a flying clothesline. The alien star from Cygnus lost consciousness in the ring, and the emergency efforts of on-hand medical personnel could not revive him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The remainder of the card at the Skydome was cancelled, as was another GWF event the same night at the Hyperion Craterdome. In addition, numerous GWF wrestlers and managers announced their intention of taking some time off to deal with Dreadnaught’s death.
“We didn’t see eye-to-eye very often,” stated Commander Sam, one of Dreadnaught’s first and most bitter enemies in the federation, “but I hate to see it end this way. He was a warrior, and he didn’t deserve to have people remember him like this. But I suppose it’s the only way he could go out. He wanted to die fighting, and he did.”
Dreadnaught had suffered a collapse in the ring in late 2107 during a match against the Creeper, a contest that also proved to be the last for the Creeper as both competitors were carried from the ring after losing consciousness. However, despite the advice of GWF medical staff, Dreadnaught refused to stop wrestling.
“We tried to get him to quit,” stated Commissioner Omega. “He wouldn’t listen to anyone. I guess wrestling was just too much in his blood. This is a tragedy, but I hope that everyone will remember him as the great fighting machine he once was and not as the shell of himself that he became.”
Doomsayer, Dreadnaught’s long-time manager, had little comment, despite the common conclusion that Doomsayer’s transrevolver was primarily responsible for Dreadnaught’s poor physical condition.
“He made his own choices,” Doomsayer stated. “Of course, no one is happy to see it end like this. But I never forced him into the transrevolver. The decision was his, and I take no responsibility.”
Interestingly, one of the GWF stars who seemed hardest hit by Dreadnaught’s death was Vyper, his opponent at the time of the collapse. The former Masked Assassin disappeared from the arena after the match and has not been seen in the GWF since.
