Anyone here ever broken a toe? If so how long was your recovery period?
I broke my toe about 10 1/2 weeks ago. I went to the emergency clinic across the street and they XRayed it, put me in a shoe cast, and told me it would heal on its own in 6-8 weeks. After a little over 9 weeks, I felt no pain and was able to wear a normal shoe and went to my podiatrist expecting to be cleared only to be surprised when he XRayed it and said I still needed an extra 4-6 weeks of recovery. From what I understand, a broken toe usually does not take 13-15 weeks of recovery.
They taped up my toes but I untaped them after 10 days because it was causing me chronic pain to the point I could barely walk and I feel almost no pain without the tape. I am going back to see my podiatrist on Monday afternoon after work, but if anyone here has experienced a broken toe or a broken foot I would be interested in hearing anything you could tell me about your ordeal as this is the first time I ever broken a bone and yet there seems to be something wrong based on this abnormally long healing time.

Well IB is just finishing recovering from breaking two bones in her foot, and it was nearly 3 months for that.

Broken toes are a bitch. Every time you walk on them. It agitates them. My broken foot still hurts I’m 8 weeks in. Older you get longer everything takes to heal. 13 weeks is not unheard of. Especially if your active on it. If you can stand it,taping when you sleep helps and compression socks are pretty cool. I swear by them. Don’t get discouraged, before you know it this will be a distant memory. Oh. Icing sucks but it does help. I use the bucket of ice water method, although brutal. My foot always feels better when I do it. Keep your head up.

Well I went back to the podiatrist after work today and he surprised me by saying my foot now looks much better compared to the last XRays and he cleared me to return to the gym for light exercise (but I can not run or do any high impact moves on my foot yet until next week.)
So tonight I went to the gym for the first time since I broke my foot over 11 weeks ago and my foot seems to be holding up OK. It looks like my foot is finally healing!

So tonight I went to the gym for the first time since I broke my foot over 11 weeks ago and my foot seems to be holding up OK. It looks like my foot is finally healing! I've never broken a bone, but I have self rehabilitated a torn rotator cuff, a torn bicep (same arm) and trauma to my pectoral muscles twice. Consistent work outs (4-5 times a week) of very high reps (in the thousands) with extremely light weight healed me up each time. Zero post rehab issues, zero loss of strength or power. I'm no doctor and can only share what worked for me, but I would work hard to strengthen all the muscles in your legs so that once your foot heals you don't have a lot of catching up to do. Can you do seated leg extensions and lying hamstring curls with a broken foot? If yes, I would focus on those two exercises along with training the calf muscle in your good leg. Good luck bro!
