Larry Hennig (6) v. Sinn Bodhi (59)
Bodhi turns heads and gets the early advantage with a butt drop to neck and then sending Hennig into the ropes. Hennig rebounds to counter a clothesline with one of his own sending both men to the mat. Bodhi is up first and chokes out Hennig with his boot and keeps the pressure on with a Japanese arm drag and head butts. Hennig finally gets in some offense with forearms and rebounding Bodhi into a back elbow. Bodhi is stunned and Hennig body slams him in the middle of the ring and hooks the leg for the three count (R4/P5) thanks to what appears to be a quick count from Morgan Dollar.
The competition has been cut in half and we ready for round two…
Up next
“Dr. Death” Steve Williams (1) v. Curt Hennig (32)
and
Chris Candido (16) v. Lou Thesz (17)
Thesz should have no problems getting past Candido but the first match might be a close one. I think Williams pulls it out but he will have hard time repeating as champion with Thesz as his opponent in the round of 16.

Thanks for the pics Vegas & TTX“Dr. Death” Steve Williams (1) v. Curt Hennig (32) Morgan Dollar has strict instructions for both men prior to the bell. The counter wrestling from the outset is awesome. Hennig lays in forearms but Williams sets up for a spinebuster but Hennig counters with a hip toss but that is blocked leading to a vertical suplex attempt which Hennig drops out of and lands a forearm hammer. Hennig connect with a rolling neck snap for a one count (R6/P2) and then stuns Williams with a HENNIG PLEX in the middle of the ring to eliminate the defending tournament champion (R3/P5). Chris Candido (16) v. Lou Thesz (17) Thesz catches Candido with rolling short arm scissors and follows immediately with a GRECO-ROMAN BACKDROP to get the pin (R6/P6) in just two moves! Candido protest the count saying he kicked out but the decision stands and Thesz advances to the round of sixteen. We will have a new winner of the tournament this year as Williams is out in the second round. Up next, the match I have been looking forward to . . . Buddy Rogers (9) v. Stan Hanson (24) Plus, one that could be a sleeper . . . Stan Lane (8) w/Jim Cornette v. Greg Valentine (40)

Not a big surprise with Thesz or Hennig winning. I love the Dr. Death card but Hennig's is very strong and these are two of my favorites.
Will take Lariat over Rogers if there is not a DQ finish. Hammer over Lane but should wind up as a fun sleeper match as Lane is Flair lite. LOL

Buddy Rogers (9) v. Stan Hanson (24)
Rogers has a lot to say to Morgan Dollar before Hanson even hits the ring and Dollar looks anything but impressed. Hanson comes right at the Nature Boy from the opening bell but Rogers is ready and counters well using a hip toss to get out of trouble and then connecting with a jumping knee smash to Hanson’s leg. They go to the floor and Rogers is able to backdrop Hanson to the concrete. Back inside, Rogers applies a FIGURE FOUR GRAPEVINE and Hanson just makes the ropes (R7/P6) to stay alive. Rogers jaws with the fans showing his confidence before hitting an atomic drop that spills Hanson to the floor. Rogers follows but Hanson is waiting on him sending Nature Boy hard into the post. Back in the ring, Hanson powerbombs a bloody Rogers for a one count (R10/P2). LARIAT connects and nearly kills Rogers. 1, 2, kick out (R7/P5). Rogers gets trapped in a Brazos Valley backbreaker and then a sleeper hold. Rogers is reeling and sent into the ropes. He rebounds and catches Hanson with an inside cradle. 1, 2, hooks the tights, 3 (R3/P3). Rogers quickly bails from the ring rather then celebrate as Hanson goes wild grabbing Dollar by the collar and shoving him to the mat. Stan Lane (8) w/Jim Cornette v. Greg Valentine (40)
Valentine, Lane and Cornette all have lots of complaints for Morgan Dollar before the bell with not only ticks off Dollar but ringside as well. Lane manages to open up first after a series of lock ups and lands a kick in the corner. Valentine is whipped into the opposite corner and Lane charges straight into a clothesline from Valentine. Shoulder breaker from Valentine gets a near fall (R5/P4) before The Hammer tosses Lane to the floor. After a hug from Cornette which the fans hate, Lane gets back to the action but is trapped in a FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK. Cornette distracts Dollar and the action continues. Shoulder breaker crushes Lane but a head butt to the mid section is avoided and Lane is back with a series of karate kicks. Valentine takes a breather. Lane comes out after him and Valentine catches him with series of chops and then slams Lane face first into the ring bell. Lane is loopy and the bell sounds. Morgan Dollar has bounced Valentine from the tournament via disqualification. Valentine protests while Cornette helps a bloody and dazed Lane from ringside.
Up next . . . Harley Race (4) v. Ivan Koloff (29)
And . . . Robert Gibson (13) v. The Crusher (20)

Man I was hoping to see Greg Valentine get by Stan Lane but the DQ did him in. Very bummed that Stan Hansen is out of the tournament but that was a classic Buddy Rogers win. I loved seeing Curt Hennig get past Steve Williams as I figured "Doc" was going to take that one. Thesz over Candido was no surprise and that was a classic Candido defeat. Psyched to see the next round of action get underway.
