FROM THE NWA Effective immediately: Jim Cornette has resigned from the National Wrestling Alliance. As an announcer on the November 19th edition of NWA Power, Jim made remarks during a singles match between Nick Aldis and Trevor Murdoch that were both offensive and do not meet the high standards of decency and good faith of the National Wrestling Alliance.
To ensure that such an error can never happen again, we've established new procedures of review for all NWA programming going forward.
We sincerely regret our failure in this regard.

Don't know if its because I am British ? Don't even understand what the quote is going on about/meaning ? The quote means "The man is so tough that he can go into a starving country with food on his back and fight his way out without losing the food." Thats not the reason its offensive though, the offense part is more to do with referencing fried chicken in a predominately black country and in the US its a common stereotype that black people all love fried chicken.

It was stupid for him and NWA. How do you not edit that out. 1. People look through every comment anyone famous makes looking to vilify them. 2. It was racist. Just because it was thought of as more acceptable (Or funny) comment in the 80’s (the era Jim still lives in), doesn’t make it right. The 80’s were pretty messed up. For a guy who’s politics don’t reflect his statement, it seems confusing. He often criticizes racist southerners, but says shit like this. I guess it’s like when Roseanne came back, the network knew they were getting “Crazy” and acted surprised afterwards. Who else can make you love him and loathe him at the same time. Who else can say as many brilliant things as stupid things. Only Jim Cornette.

Cowardly of Dave Lagana to make Cornette the fall guy when the decision to air it was his. Watch out Austin Idol. You could be next.

Exactly. It's weird though, the first handful of times I read the comment I didn't really connect the true racist tone of it. I just thought people were upset about the reference to Ethiopia having starving people. That said, making reference to black people and fried chicken just ain't a good idea in 2019. Probably wasn't a good idea when he did it in the '80s but it was certainly more acceptable then. Still, too bad he is now done with NWA. I really enjoyed him and Joe Galli working together. Hopefully they find someone else that can come close to his knowledge and entertainment level.

He’s a tough one to replace entertainment and knowledge wise. What the Hell was the NWA thinking. One freakin’ edit! Some people where upset w him a few weeks ago, because he mentioned someone should “kill themself” at a show because of his outfit he had on. I believe the NWA had to apologize for that as well. He decided to up the ante.

Remember, he resigned, he wasn't fired.

Bazzy, it's been explained in this thread, a few posts up from your own, about as simply as it possibly could. Thats not the reason its offensive though, the offense part is more to do with referencing fried chicken in a predominately black country and in the US its a common stereotype that black people all love fried chicken.

Such a dumbass, short-sighted thing to say. I've never been to Ethiopia, or the United States for that matter but I can see how this is racially offensive. I like Cornette but he does have a habit of putting his foot in it. He really needs to apologise and rec ognise why some people would find his comments offensive (and very much out of touch too.)
