Televised Championship Wrestling presents the first annual(I hope) CORONA CUP TOURNAMENT, live on PAPER-VIEW!!!
**note: I had to sub in guys for cards I don't own.**
Round One
Harley Race vs Greg"The Hammer" Valentine (sub for Curt Henning)
- This was a brutal match I never knew I wanted to see. These two put on a classic wrestling clinic. In the end a struggle on the top rope led to Greg being pushed off, followed by a flying headbutt, then a PILEDRIVER for the win. Harley inadvertently walked down the aisle a fan favorite after this match.
Black Jack Mulligan (sub for Magnum T.A.) vs Alexis Smirnoff (sub for Tully Blanchard)
- This was a brutal, heavy hitting match from two very large men. There was just as much time spent on the outside of the ring as on the inside. BlackJack was able to latch on THE CLAW and hold it for two rounds to secure victory.
Nick Bockwinkel w/Bobby Heenan vs Larry Zybszko
- This match was a thirty minute mat wrestling classic. With a never quit attitude and doing his best to fend off Heenan's interferences, Zybszko landed a role as a future face. This match came down to a numbers game, and two on one was too much for Larry. Nick Bockwinkel locked in an ABDOMINAL STRETCH with Heenan on the apron providing extra leverage. Zybszko was helped out and is injured. The medical staff is guessing he will return in one week's time.
"Macho Man" Randy Savage vs Ted Dibiase (sub in black glove version, I love that card)
- This match was over insanely quick. Savage clotheslined Dibiase over the top rope, gave him a piledriver on the announce table, and rolled him in for a FLYING ELBOW SMASH. Dibiase rolled out of the ring after the bell and pounded on the apron shouting that Savage would pay for that.
Lou Thesz vs "Nature Boy" Buddy Rogers
- This match was also quick and dirty. Rogers clearly learned something from watching the previous match, and took the fight to the outside right away. Rogers delivered a drop kick that sent Thesz falling backwards bouncing his head off the ring post. Rogers won the match by COUNT OUT.
The Destroyer (sub Black&White card) vs Gorgeous George w/Cherie Dupre
- What was expected to be a classic wrestling showcase was anything but. This match mostly took place in the air or outside the ring. In the end George resulted to beating the Destroyer over the head with his custom spray gun. Destroyer wins by DQ.
King Kong Bundy (sub for Vader) w/Paul Ellering vs Stan Hansen
- Everyone in attendance was surprised to see the ring still standing after this match. Hansen used his hard hitting Japanese style to beat Bundy with what seemed inches of his life. Paul Ellering was powerless to interfere. Hansen delivered a LARIAT that turned Bundy inside out, and secured the victory. *Stan secures a Television Title shot for pinning the current champion.
Bruiser Brody vs. Abdullah the Butcher
- A rivalry that has spanned the world over came to a head right here at the tournament. This bloodbath ended with Abdullah getting himself DISQUALIFIED by repeated chair shots to Brody, the referee, and every subsequent ref that came out to try to stop him.
Round Two
Harley Race vs BlackJack Mulligan
- Harley Race appeared disgusted to even be in a match with Mulligan. About three minutes in Harley hit a BACK SUPLEX with authority and got the win. Mulligan was taken out of the ring on a stretcher. The doctors are saying he could be out for at least two weeks.
"Macho Man" Randy Savage vs Nick Bockwinkel w/Bobby Heenan
- Savage tried to turn this match into a wild brawl, while Bockwinkel kept things classic with wrestling at it's best. Heenan kept his distance in this one, especially after being chased around the ring several times by Savage. Savage spent too much time focusing on the wrong man, and paid for it in the form of a BOCKWINKEL SLEEPER.
The Destroyer vs Nature Boy Buddy Rogers
- This match was over so fast, fans were left wondering what exactly happened. Shortly after the bell rang Rogers nailed a pile driver, getting a one count. Out of frustration he tried to unmask The Destroyer, causing both men to fall between the ropes. A wild brawl on the outside led both men to be COUNTED OUT.
Bruiser Brody vs Stan Hansen
- This was the most emotional match so far, pitting two best friends against each other with very high stakes. Both men stood center ring for a handshake, then backed to their respected corners before the bell. Two moves into the match Hansen lands an ELBOW DROP off the second rope that looked to drive the wind and fight out of Brody. After the bell Hansen helped Brody up and back down the aisle. There are suspicions of broken ribs.
Harley Race vs Nick Bockwinkel w/Bobby Heenan
-Harley Race received an overwhelming pop from the capacity crowd on his way to the aisle. Nick Bockwinkel and Bobby Heenan were pelted with garbage during their entrance. This match had a "main event for the ages" feel to it. When Race was finally able to hit his patented PILEDRIVER, Heenan climbed on the apron to distract the ref. Race ran over and decked Heenan off of the ring apron, sending him crashing to the guard rails. Harley peeled Bockwinkel's carcass of the canvas and gave him one more PILEDRIVER for good measure, and the victory.
Final
Harley Race vs Stan Hansen
- Fans were in for a real treat as the two toughest men in professional wrestling were set to finish the tournament strong. Race and Hansen pulled out all the stops and gave it everything they had. These two juggernauts duked it out for nearly one hour before a winner could be declared. Race landed a pile driver earning a 2.9 count, then staggered to his feet and drug Hansen back up by the hair. Harley landed one more PILE DRIVER and was able to hold Hansen down for the three! Harley Race wins the tournament, a $25,000 check, the Corona Cup trophy, and number one contentedership for the Superstar Wrestling Association(my shared promotion) World Heavyweight Championship currently held by Ric Flair.
Thank you everyone for tuning in(reading this long winded post)! A very very special thank you extended to the staff of Filsinger Games for this tournament idea to get me to dust off my cards and get back to a hobby that I love. I would also like to thank all the participants of the tournament that made posts of their events. I have really enjoyed reading how your own tournaments turned out. I feel very blessed to be involved in this community now, and having the time to roll dice with you all. I look forward to how this year will turn out for Televised Championship Wrestling.
