Ontario Wrestling Network - Card 05 – Capital City Combat @ St. Anthony’s Hall, Ottawa
David Marquez holds court before the action gets underway and appears ready for an interview when Nigel McGuinness comes out and shocks the Ottawa fans who chant in unison. McGuinness wastes little time and calls out Bryan Danielson and when the “American Dragon” comes to ringside, McGuinness challenges him to a match … TONIGHT!
“Die Hard” Eddie Edwards def. “The Prince of Queens” Brian Myers *** ½
Myers put on an impressive performance and appeared to have the match won but event two SPEARS were not enough to put Edwards away before Edwards came back to finish off Myers with a DIE HARD.
Catch Point def. Premier Athletes Brand w/SoCal Val * ½
Trent Barreta had control against Drew Gulak but Gulak turned the momentum slamming Baretta from the top of the corner to the mat before tagging in Williams who immediately applied a FACELOCK and then moved to a cross armbreaker for the submission
Maxwell Jacob Friedman def. T.J. Perkins *** ½
The fans were thrilled when TJP took it to MJF from the outset but Friedman made the ropes to survive a FIGURE FOUR DEATHLOCK and then made heat filled comeback picking up the comeback victory with back to back HEATSEEKERS after Perkins escaped THE CROWBAR.
Athena def. Rhia O’Reilly * ½
The brawling tactics of O’Reilly were no match to the high impact athletics from Athena who had too many weapons for her Irish opponent as Athena scored the pin after a deathjump cross body block.
INTERMISSION
Irish Airborne def. Cedric Alexander & Lio Rush by disqualification ** ½
Alexander & Rush dominated the first half of the encounter picking up several near falls before the brothers from Ohio made a comeback connecting with IRISH COFFEE to Alexander for what would have been the win but Rush jumped in for the save and was disqualified for taking out both Crist Brothers.
Claudio Castagnoli def. Jay Briscoe by disqualification **
The fans were psyched for this contest and the hard hitting, high impact offense did not disappoint particularly from Castagnoli with his suplexes and uppercuts but things ended prematurely when Briscoe smashed Castagnoli through a ringside table with a DVD leaving both men in a broken heap while the fans chanted.
Nigel McGuinness DDQ with “The American Dragon” Bryan Danielson **
Danielson controlled the action in this one until McGuinness bailed to the floor where both men brawled and then shoved the official to the floor when the referee attempted to get the action back into the ring resulting in a double disqualification finish. Both men brawled after the match until the locker room emptied and broke things up.
Matt Taven & Adam Cole def. Men of Low Moral Fiber dud
This was over before the fans even sat down as Taven connected with CLIMAX after only two moves for the pin on “The Cleaner” Kenny Omega.
OWN Tag Team Championship Young Bucks [ch] def. Monster Mafia
There was plenty of controversy in this one with the match breaking down twice after pin saves by the champions as “#AllEgo” Ethan Page & “Walking Weapon” Josh Alexander controlling 90% of the contest and appearing ready to claim the gold but after a chaotic exchange following a pin save, the Bucks took out Page with INDYTAKER to retain.
