In the last few years there has been talk that pro sports, like wrestling, is scripted. I caught a replay of the Michigan/St Louis game and there are things in the game that could be pointed to that show it being scripted. At the end of the first half St Louis lined up to try a FG and Michigan called a timeout to try and freeze the kicker. They discussed what the numbers would show on how often freezing a kicker works. Fast forward to last minute or so of the game. Michigan needs a FG to win the game. They talk about how Michigan's kicker had not attempted a game time FG since high school. They said they talked to the coach and he told them the kicker was making them from 65 with no rush. They said the coach would not have him attempt a 65 yard FG. They were right as the coach had him attempt one from 64. Then St. Louis calls a timeout but the kicker goes thru the motions and makes it. On the next play, the real FG attempt, he kicks it in almost the same position and makes it. A bit fishy or just good timing? On a side note, I forgot who it was on one of the sports talk shows but they said what were the kicker's college coaches thinking not having him attempt FGs when he was on the team. He went to Central Arkansas, Texas State and Arkansas. That last one is an SEC school so it's like, what WERE they thinking? Doesn't someone from "scripted entertainment" own this league?

The St. Louis BattleHawks are favored by 11.5 this weekend against Houston. Kaw is the law! Did I do that right? My Michigan Panthers are favored by 3.5. Not bad but not great.

So Michigan did not cover. Heck they barely won while playing a winless team and we were home. It took me till the 2 minute warning at the end of the game to figure out how the scripted the ending and even then I had it down to two options.
1) Arlington would try for a game winning FG as time expired and he would miss. Thus the talk would be if they had a kicker like Michigan's Jacob Bates they would have picked up their first win.
2) Arlington would make the go ahead FG but with time on the clock so Michigan could drive and have Bates win the game on his leg.
It was the second option that prevailed. The only question on Bates is how does he do kicking outdoors especially in bad weather. That being said I see him on an NFL team this season. Best bets would be New Orleans or Atlanta where he would be guaranteed of at least 9 games in a dome and a couple games outside in usually good weather.
I am looking forward to the St. Louis Battlehawks vs Birmingham Stallions game. It should be a doozy.
While I am not overjoyed at how Michigan struggled to get a win, a win is still a win and we are on the verge of clinching a playoff spot.

I totally missed San Antonio making a comeback last weekend and beating Houston. By doing that Michigan clinched their playoff spot. Even if Houston won, we still were going to make the playoffs, but it would not be official till this weekend. Just need to finish the season strong and work on things to help us in the playoffs against Birmingham. Go Panthers!
