Wait...you're really using Mythic in your Legends fed?
Huh.
I really have to take a closer look at that...it never occurred to me it would even be useable for Legends.
It's usable. Definitely usable. Here's how I've been using it...
So I start out a card with a really low Chaos factor. I've been using 1. And each match it goes up by one. Usually about mid-card I get an event. Either an alteration or an interrupt. Whenever I get an event, instead of dropping the Chaos factor down 1 point, I drop it all the way back to 1.
If I wanted a wild-and-crazy fed with lots of run-ins and stuff, I'd start with a Chaos factor of 3 or so and then use the normal rules for moving it up and down.
Here's how it works out in play.
My last card I had two events pop up. One was an alteration. Another was an interrupt. I can't remember the phrase I rolled but the interrupt was a "PC negative" and it involved being hampered or having some sort of obstacle. That's how I discovered that Tommy Rogers was still nursing a minor injury from the previous card.
The alteration came up with something about an enemy and oration of some sort. So I interpreted it as Bobby Heenan and Ray Stevens coming out ringside to the announcer's desk.
Because this is wrasslin' there's only so much that can happen within reasonable limits of it all occurring in a wrestling fed. There's no ex-wife and kids showing up in my rings. This is wrestling, not
Days of Our Lives. But there's no reason I
couldn't use Mythic to bring that stuff in.
An important note about using Mythic is: If a result doesn't make sense, just ignore it. Don't spend more than, say, 30 seconds mulling it over. If something doesn't jump out at you, don't feel obligated to bring it in just because you rolled it on a chart.
The end result is that my feds now feel more like
watching a wrestling show than they used to. I get surprises. Things I didn't plan on. I turned to Mythic because, while I was enjoying my non-storyline fed, I was getting a little bored with just rolling up matches. I wanted the ability to interject some randomness. So, while I don't have any real storylines going on, I do get some backstage and ringside surprises here and there. Like Sherri Martel and Larry Sweeney combining stables to form the Sensational Sweet & Sour Inc. I'm not doing storylines so that wouldn't have happened in my fed.
But an interrupt event and Bobo Brazil getting Counted Out on the Out of the Ring chart made things a lot clearer. Larry Zybysko, a member of Sweet & Sour Inc., won the match courtesy of Hulk Hogan bodyslamming Brazil while the ref wasn't looking. But Hogan was in Sherri Martel's stable. So next show, guess who had joined forces?
And I didn't
plan any of it. It unfolded as a result of Mythic and LOW's rules working together.
This is the first time I've used Mythic on a match-by-match basis. I used it in the LWA/DWA back in the day to help with some storylines for my Memphis fed. But it never occurred to me to use it in a match-by-match context until about a month ago.
It's worked well thus far. I'd recommend it pretty highly.
