Following some comments in this thread, I thought I'd do a quick write up about the various ways I've used Mythic in conjunction with LoW.
Random Events during a card, PPV or TV taping
Mythic operates off a Chaos Factor. In short, it sets up a percent chance of something happening outside of what you had planned. As regards my wrestling cards, the list of matches form the planned activities.
Before each match, I roll the Chaos Factor. If something is rolled, then I roll up the event (either an Alteration or an Interrupt). If not, then the match goes off as planned.
An Alteration Event adds a twist to the planned event. An Interrupt happens in place of the planned event. Here's an example of both...
ALTERATION EVENT
The Fabulous Kangaroos are facing off against the Flying Redheads. I roll an Alteration Event under the Chaos Factor. So then I roll on the "Event Meaning" chart. I roll "37. Struggle" for the action and "50. Travel" for the Subject. I ponder this for a second. It's only an alteration so I know that the match will still take place. This just mixes things up a bit.
So i come to an interpretation that the Flying Redheads will be attacked by the Kangaroos while en route to the ring. So the Kangaroos choose who starts out in the ring and start the match on L2O.
INTERRUPT EVENT
I've got a grudge match lined up between Larry Zybysko and Ted DiBiase (Black Glove). Zybysko is a member of Sherri Martel's stable. Prior to the match, I roll an Interrupt. This is an event that may or may not invalidate the match. But it is usually something that precedes the match (although I have had some of these events take a role in the end of the match instead).
So, I roll "71. PC Positive" on the Event Focus chart. And for the Event Meaning I roll a "19. Waste" for the Event Action and "67. Ambush" for the Subject.
For these things, I usually treat the "PC" as the Face when interpreting events. For this match, that would be DiBiase. So this one is easy.
Prior to the match, Zybysko's stable mate, Don Muraco, tries to jump DiBiase. DiBiase turns the ambush around on Zybysko. I give Zybysko a fatigue point and roll on L3D for him to start the match -- with DiBiase on offense.
NONSENSICAL EVENT
Some events don't make sense. For example, say I roll an Interrupt Event for a match between Koko B. Ware and Jim Brunzell. I roll a "81. Ambiguous Event" for the event focus. And I roll "39. Bestow" for the Event Action and a "87. Magic" for the Event Subject.
I can't make heads or tails of this. So I ignore it. Now, if Jim Brunzell had been facing off against Papa Shango, then that would've been a different story...
In my feds, I usually start off with a 1 Chaos Factor. The Chaos Factor goes up by one for each match where an event is not rolled. When I do roll an event, I reset the Chaos Factor back to 1. It just keeps the events to a minimum.
If I wanted to go all out, I'd probably start out with a 3 Chaos Factor and just use the standard Mythic rules for increasing and decreasing the Chaos Factor on a match-by-match basis.
Wrestling and Mythic
Event Focus can be a little weird with Mythic (in wrestling terms). Here is how I approach each of the event focii...
Remote event
This would be either a backstage event, important news or a quick promo for a match later in the card.
NPC action
This would be something that the Heel set up for the match. Or maybe did backstage before the match. Maybe setting up a run in? Or having a bag of thumbtacks under the ring apron?
Introduce a new NPC
This would be a way to introduce a new wrestler to the roster. Or maybe a new manager. Or bringing a wrestler back from injury. I don't interpret NPC as a Heel or Face in this regard.
Move away/toward a thread
In wrestling terms, I treat feuds as "threads". So moving away or toward would be either cooling off or heating up a feud somehow.
Close a thread
Yup. This would be ending a feud somehow. Maybe the feuding opponents band together against a common foe? Or maybe one of them gets injured at the end of the match, bringing the feud to a close temporarily.
PC negative/PC positive
PC in this event focus is generally the Face of the match. So a positive event helps him out. Maybe the ref sends the Heel's manager to the back. A negative event hurts the Face. Like an ambush.
Ambiguous Event
This one I interpret as, usually, a quick promo before the match by either someone involved in the match or from backstage for a match later on the card.
NPC negative/positive
As with PCs, NPCs are interpreted as the Heels. In a match between two Heels or two Faces, I just pick the sides before I roll the Event Focus.
Using Mythic for Promos
So, I roll an "Ambiguous Event" and determine that the camera is cutting to Lou Thesz to do a promo for his championship match against Jimmy Snuka. So what does he say?
Just look at the Event Action and Subject. Say I rolled a "19. Move" and a "97. Leadership". Hmmm... So Thesz says something like this:
"Snuka, it's time you moved over so that someone else could lead the LWF to the next level."
For a planned promo, just roll an Event Action and Subject as if it were an Event. If you get something non-sensical, just assume it was an unspectacular promo or just a generic "I will whoop you" promo. Or roll again until you get something that works for you.
As I mentioned in the previous thread, using Mythic alongside LoW has made me more of a spectator of my fed. By de-emphasizing storylines and limiting my involvement with the "planning" of my cards, I've found myself in a position to just watch and enjoy what comes up.
It's been fun.
Thanks for reading.
