also TDalton . He has a big collection! I actually sold most of mine to an IPW wrestler who was starting a comic resale business. I couldn't bear to throw them away, but no longer had a use for them. I didn't get rich, but they I knew they were going to support a great cause. I kept my full run of All-Star Squadron and Earth-2/JSA related stuff. Also, kept my Elseworlds titles, Justice League books, and run of Big Bang Comics. I don't have the entire All-Star collection, but I do have several issues. I was first introduced to them during a JLA/JSA crossover that also featured Per Degaton & Earth-3's Crime Syndicate. I knew Crisis On Infinite Earths would be huge when they killed Crime Syndicate and destroyed Earth 3 in issue #1. That was definitely a Holy Crap moment. My favorite All-Star issue is the one where almost every Earth 2 mystery man shows up for a team meeting. That issue also introduced Uncle Sam & Freedom Fighters. What's your favorite issue, Chad? BTW, if there's ever been a cooler costume than Tarantula's, I'd like to see it. BTW, his real name of Jonathan Law is the coolest Alter Ego ever!

Pick up THE OMEGA MEN #3 now, because once Jason Mamoa portrays LOBO on the big screen this book will skyrocket. $$$
SPIDERMAN #129 was always a must have for those of us in the 70s and 80s and commanded a hefty price even back then.
I remember paying $25 for the book in 1978, even more than the $10 Incredible Hulk #181!! That was A LOT of money for a kid in the 70s!!!
...and then the not-so-great Dolph Lundgren Punisher movie came out in 1989 and the book became UNTOUCHABLE!
You could pick up Incredible Hulk #271 in the 0.25 bin all day long and then... The Guardians of the Galaxy hit the big screen and ROCKET RACCOON was a star!
Suddenly Hulk #271 was no longer in the quarter bin and keeps going up.
Technically his 'first' appearance is MARVEL PREVIW #7 as Rocky, inspired by the Beatles song. Hulk was his first appearance as ROCKET RACCOON.
It's a proven trend, hit the big screen and first appearance goes up and UP!

Great thread here. I’ve been collecting comics off and on for the past 40 plus years. I’ve sold my collection several 3 different times in my life including all of my books that were worth anything.
Been reading mostly trades or digital copies lately, but still vist my local shop regularly.

Instocktrades.com has good deals, particularly the big ticket omnibuses the week they're released.

I'm curious, and have a question for you good folks. Did your love of comic books translate into a love, or at least a following, of the daily comic strips in the newspapers? I know papers are largely dead, but the daily strips live on, online at least. I too collected comics, although my collection is largely gone (was a big Spider-Man and Batman fan), save for a couple of boxes when I got back into it in the 2000s (loved me some Savage Dragon!). And as a kid, I definitely followed the daily comics, can clearly remember Spider-Man having a run in the papers, way back when. I still read Dick Tracy online (insert everyone's favorite Dick Tracy joke here! ), and its still fun stuff. I've collected a fair amount of old Tracy stories in hardback collections over the years, always thought that comic was underrated (I mean, Tracy essentially was Batman, without the costume). And Tracy's rogues' gallery certainly rivalled Batman's over the years! Anyway, was just curious, and thought I'd see if there was crossover between the books and the papers. Great discussion guys! For me they went hand in hand as a kid. I saw a business marquee sign known for funny postings say, "before cellphones we ate breakfast and read the cereal box". That hit home for me. That was before I discovered the funnies...and later the sports section.

I'm sure we all had them to track the value of our comics, in the no internet days, but who still have their Overstreet Price Guides?

topdollar - My favorite issue of All Star Squadron is probably #25, with the introduction of Infinity, Inc. I'm also partial to #31, which is the full Squadron meeting you spoke of. There were some really great storylines. I also love Tarantula's costume!
