Sly Drury - Sly Drury is Iron Hand? Wow! Didn't see that coming. The only thing that their two wrestling cards have in common is they both do the Backstabber, which I didn't notice until after the fact. I don't really like Drury as the Commissioner, but oh well. I think he'll still be a self-centered opportunist, he doesn't really care about keeping the peace in the GWF. And what's with him and Phantasy? Sly Drury, a ladies man? He has definitely made some enemies. I don't get how his fan reaction is a (0) and not a (-10) because the guy is a conniver and a snake. He has to have his security goons with him everywhere, something a "good guy" wouldn't have to do. I don't find the Iron Hand wrestling as a mindless robot very believable, but I think it'll turn out okay, storyline wise. Why would the GWF Board of Directors trust Sly as the Commish? He must have some dirt on them. Speaking of dirt, I'm very intrigued by the feud vs. Hector, the Holy Brown Bear, should be interesting. All in all, Sly Drury is a great character with a great new drawing on his Commissioner card.
Monolith- Monolith has a full plate with feuds vs. Wolf and the Aethran Overmaster, both incredible opponents! I see Monolith as a Chaos-type wrestler and I feel that he won't stand too well with Drury as the leader. Wait for an upcoming butting of heads between the two. Monolith will probably beat Wolf in the "Fatal Showdown." I also don't see Monolith being cheered more in a match vs. the Overmaster due to the fact that there are a lot of fans who love Aethrans, but I guess that they are so scared of being attacked by them that they hate Aethrans more right now, but I think Monolith should be a more feared character as well. He is an Animan who had an Aethran Cleansing, he isn't a sissy! I do like the occasional tag of Drury and Monolith as the Powers That Be, but why is Sly Drury being referred to as the Man with the Power? Haven't we already had that once with Cordanus? I still think Monolith's playing card is awesome, I just want his attitude to match it.
Patch- Here is the Arn Anderson to Sly Drury's Ric Flair, the right hand man and enforcer of Martial Law. His feud with Anivar is a good top-notch feud for both. Sleeper Cell's involvement will make that more fun as well. This is quite possibly my favorite character on the team, but I think a Patch vs. Pulsar match would be cool, an eye for an eye!
Retribution- Here is a guy I just don't understand! He wants to face Nosfera in a feud, yet Drury suspended Nosfera for 3 months after Retribution joined Martial Law. I think that he'll be on the mend a lot in feuds vs. Vidtek and especially Tricks. He faces very tough competition. I also wonder how he got a (+3) on fan reaction on the Martial Law team.
Phantasy- We finish off the Martial Law team with the hottest chick in the galaxy! She is also the new Sonora Pelf, going where the money is! That's the only way a hot babe like her ends up with Sly. Until next year, when she'll go elsewhere.
Mother Superior- We go from a hot babe to an oddball female. She isn't going to be Bloodline and Encubus' real mother, but then again, who cares? Is anyone else tired of two great wrestlers' careers getting ruined by a dumb storyline? To make matters worse, Bloodline flirting with Sultana? Too many male/female soap-opera storylines going on right now. Is this the GWF or the Young and the Restless?
Bloodline- Tom made Star Warrior, Omega, Alpha Force, and Supernova loveable characters who were awesome. I guess he decided the family had too much success and made Bloodline the bum of the family. This guy had a great card for only a short while and now Tom's made him weak before Encubus. They had a good feud going at the start of New Beginning 2119, but at the peak of his career, let's make him a tag wrestler with his enemy, a guy who may or may not be his brother! It just doesn't make since to me. With that said, I love the new drawing and the fact that he uses some old family moves.
Encubus- Much like Bloodline, this man is held back by a storyline. Let him break back into the mainstream as a top level singles star. But I have a feeling he won't. Next year, he'll be a bum also and in a weak feud vs. Bloodline. How sad for two guys who could've been great.
Dark Menace- First off, I love the new card. I also think that it's cool for Tom to be managing his favorite wrestler, Wolf. I don't think that it's Epoch helping Dark Menace, I actually think that it could be Massif, trying to get back at Sly Drury for the way that he was unceremoniously dumped from the GWF. Dark Menace's card for determining certain things is a really cool aspect also. I think he's going to be a great manager for quite some time.
Wolf- Wolf is having a great feud in his going away party. He may never be able to come back, if Monolith has his way. Will Wolf be retiring for good or will he be back yet again? I also like the possibility that Wolf may sometimes team up with someone in a Dark Menace mystery tag-team. I personally think he and Anivar would be a kick-butt duo. I love the no-interference clause in the "Fatal Showdown" and we'll actually see a winner of his classic feud with Monolith.
Hector, the Holy Brown Bear- This is probably my favorite character right now, I love the psychological warfare of this guy. I hope he never has a card two years in a row. Let's see this guy have a whole career as a different person every year. As Gatekeeper vs. Valour, he was just okay at best for me. Then as Dead Ringer he was awesome and it was a great and unique idea. As Daimyo, he reminded me of a hunter for the Masked Assassins. Then, he was the obnoxious Main Event with the great Bret Hart-like sunglasses. But, this is the best character he has had. A man in a brown bear suit? I love the whole idea of him knowing Sly's secret past. The Undertaker's mind games are nothing in comparison with this guy, quite possibly the craziest yet coolest character the game has seen! This doesn't care if he gets cheered or booed, it changes every year! Awesome job on this guy, keep up the good work!
Anivar- I hate that he left the FDF, but we all know that he didn't fit in with them anyway. I like that he still is using Sleeper Cell, fighting fire with fire vs. Drury and Co. He has a top-notch street fight battle with Patch, which should be awesome. But, I am curious, just who is behind the masks of Sleeper Cell?
Vidtek- This is another one of my favorite characters, the cameraman/announcer/wrestler all in one, maybe his name should be changed to Slash like Kordell Stewart, former Pittsburgh Steelers QB/RB/WR/Waterboy! Anyway, I think Vidtek's defiance of Drury was great and he may end up as a huge fan-favorite. I think that he's every bit as good if not better than Retribution and that should be a good feud.
U.S. Male- Here is a storyline I just don't get. Why put U.S. Male and American Guy back together? I just feel that Tom didn't see him fitting elsewhere so he stuck these two back together. I think the GWF needs to have a better representation of Earth wrestlers, particular from the U.S. What about Adam Blast and Ms. Liberty's son? How old is he now? If not him, anyone but Male and Guy. I think they have worn out their welcome.
American Guy- Much like U.S. Male, this Guy's career is going nowhere. With Bomb and Muss gone, they are stuck in a feud vs. another nothing happening tag-team of Divided We Fall. And a side feud vs. Zygon and Thraxx just doesn't make since. I also think that he would get destroyed by Drury as well. All in all, the GWF's tag scene is weak right now with this duo and Divided We Fall.
Sultana- Is she with Bloodline? Is she with American Guy? Who cares? She is just another stupid soap-opera storyline wrestler. Make her interesting or dump her from the GWF. There seems to be a theme in the GWF and their women. They are just girlfriends of wrestlers. I think the GWF needs more women like Strafe and Deadliest, not interested in love, but championship belts. I like hot looking women, but they don't all have to be in some dumb relationship with a wrestler. Not every woman in the WWE or TNA is dating a wrestler. In fact, most probably aren't.
Endgame- Here is the greatest "good guy" of the GWF. The GWF has a lot of villains or guys who aren't really heroes or villains, but an independent. Well, Endgame is a hero. He is the type of old school hero that I like, some say that is boring and you can do more storylines with a villain or almost-villain. That may be true but would Lex Luthor be as good of a villain if not for the all true blue good guy of Clark Kent/Superman? I don't think so. I think his popularity should be a (+10), but he is a 9 instead. I love the feud vs. Aethran Overmaster, taking on the biggest bad guy of the bunch. I don't buy that Endgame thinks Sly Drury's has turned over a new leaf. He's the ultimate good guy, not an idiot. I love Ensor coming to the FDF and U.S. Male getting ousted, all good stuff from the ultimate good guy.
Tauran- I have mixed reviews on this guy. On one hand, I like the character and the awesome hero that he is. On the other hand I hate the side of him who is depressed and calling himself a freak. To be on the FDF, you should have confidence and I just don't see it from his character. I also don't think his confidence will be restored by Shann-ra, another possible romance. If they do fall in love, let's hope that Tauran turns into a baby and ruins the whole thing! ;D
Ensor- This was a good move by Endgame, he will be an exciting star in the GWF. Having been trained by Star Warrior and Justice, he should be phenomenal for years to come. His feud with Rush will be one of the very best in the GWF. The only thing I don't like from this character is that Tom said he can live to be well over a hundred years old. This means that this guy could wrestle for over 30-40 years in his prime, while certain GWF stars like Bloodline are already weak.
Shann-ra- She is actually one of the few GWF females that I do like and I hope she'll be just a friend to Tauran rather than a girlfriend. I hate that Kill Prey is gone, though. He was one of my favorites. In 2119, Tom said that Shann-ra and Kill Prey were brother and sister, now he says cousins. My question is, shouldn't they be from Arkansas then? ;D
Aethran Overmaster- This is a mind-boggling guy to me. He is a supreme being, befitting of a new headbanging regime of the Gladiators! I just think that this Aethran War was a little fast and was never previously mentioned. Back when Vengeance killed Massacre with help from Mayhem it was considered treason, I thought. Now that Overmaster, Paralyze, and Rush are in the GWF, it doesn't seem that way. I guess that's Aethra for ya! I do love all of the Gladiator art. I think they are great drawings and superb wrestlers, destined to take over the GWF.
Paralyze- I was a huge Spike fan and Paralyze called him a loser. I'm not too happy about that. But other than that, this guy is absolutely an awesome force to be reckoned with. I think the Twin Towers of Doom team with Aethran Overmaster, if a full-time team would be better than any Gladiator team of the past. I'm very excited about next year's promise of a new Gladiator tag-team. Will Paralyze or Rush be on the team or will it be two entirely new guys? I'm hoping for two new guys, as I can't get enough of the Gladiators.
Rush- I love that he does the Thunder TEMPEST move. This guy may be a villain, but he'll be a crowd pleaser nonetheless. He and Ensor will have a lot of Match of the Year Candidates!
Strafe- No sissy love triangle or romance with this woman! She is all tough, all the time! Shann-ra better get her mind off of Tauran's troubles and deal with her own as Strafe will be ready to beat on her bones!
Swarm- I love the fact that he kicked She Devil to the curb, she had it coming. He isn't the Animen leader that Incredible Badger was, but he's okay. His feud with Tricks will be great and should see Swarm with a lot of hospital time. I am glad that Retribution is no longer on the team as he didn't fit in. But, his son Mantis won't do much better.
Mantis- This is a good character, but I don't think he'll ever turn out to be any good. The Animen have themselves another Reptillo, and he'll end up leaving his father's team and going out as a villain soon. He is an interesting fan-favorite and I for one would cheer every time his head went the other way, but hey maybe that's just me! I don't think he can beat Gryt much less Oracle or Tricks. Love the 'I Can See You' move. Eat that, John Cena!
Malkuth- I think that the former Slave Beast is doing quite well for himself. He and Panther Warrior are the best full-time tag duo going. I think I would love to see them vs. the new Gladiator team next year or when Epoch comes back, I'd love to see a one-on-one battle between Epoch and his former slave.
Panther Warrior- He continues to be the perfect tag partner to Malkuth and they will be awesome for quite some time just like Incredible Badger and Battering Ram or Badger and Iron Mane. He is also the second greatest Warrior to Star Warrior, that's good company for the Panther. He is also my wife's favorite character just because he is a panther and her high school was the Panthers. So, gotta like him for that!
Plethador- I love the "Blob of Doom" and his telepathic lily pad idea for GWF marketing, but this guy is a total loser in the ring! I don't think his attitude will make much of a splash with Oracle and I predict that Plethador will wet himself like a little girl vs. Oracle. With that said, I love the comedy of Plethador but he has a (+10) with the fans and Endgame is a (+9)? Why is that? I think the fans have a little water on the brain? ;D
Tricks- I'm glad that this guy is now a big-time guy in the GWF, he is a guy I like very much. The drawing is one of the best in the game and I think Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger would be proud. I do think that Tom should bring in an Animan that is part bat so that we could see Batman vs. Joker. Anyway, Tricks is much better with this team than Vin Strutter, who just didn't mesh with these crazies. I honestly thought that Dark Carnival would have the Dark Menace, but I like the way it turned out. I think that only Epoch could make this team scarier and then somehow figure out a way to bring back Mesmer as the team's sorcerer/manager.
Oracle- This is one of Tom's best characters. His unique card concept is really cool. I think he'll be a future star in the GWF. He has a great drawing, but I'm not really digging the Paragon-like hair. This guy may be more evil than Tricks or Epoch! Didn't Mesmer used to be called the Master of the Black Arts? Could he possibly be the son of Mesmer, even though Mesmer is back in Dimension X? I think the team of Dark Futures will dominate Hornet's Nest! They are already winning the battle just by having a better name.
Tanck- Here is a guy like U.S. Male and American Guy. He just doesn't fit in anywhere. I think Tricks and Oracle will kick him off the team by year's end. Tanck may end up crushing Scimitar instead of teaming with him. It's obvious that this isn't going to be a good duo.
Scimitar- I really don't have much to say about this guy. He and Tanck will be bad and he may not have a place to go after this year. Maybe he and Plethador should team with Gryt as the Losers! Scimitar needs an upgrade.
Gryt- This is the only romance in the GWF that I like, Gryt and Rotunda. Not since, Beth Phoenix and Santino Marella has a dumber romance been around. I love Rotunda carrying Gryt, that is funny stuff! He may actually be able to squash Mantis like a bug, oh wait, he already is!
Rotunda- Rotunda is on the hate level of Aethran Overmaster. The fans hate her singing, I think her curves and voice make the fans think of Britney Spears! ;D Rotunda and Gryt and Hot Muscles? More like Knot Truffles!
Payback- Here is one of my favorite wrestlers, the exciting Payback! With Havoc as On The Edge, they are an awesome duo that could be tag champs, but they have nothing in common. Neither really fit in anywhere, it seems. I don't really understand Payback's involvement in a feud with Zygon and Thraxx, but it'll be a good feud nonetheless.
Havoc- This is an Aethran turncoat who for now, the Aethrans are allowing to stay around. With Disaster and Rage gone, locked up with Spike, why is this guy still around? Does the Aethran Overmaster not consider him a traitor or does he think Havoc is too weak to bother with. Will Havoc end up back on the Gladiator team or out of the GWF for good to face the music with Spike, Disaster, and Rage? Not sure, but in the meantime, he and Payback will excite crowds perhaps like no other team.
Zygon- Zygon and Thraxx, feeling duped by the Dark Menace, have gone their own way and will set out to destroy Payback and Havoc. But why are they trying to get on the Gladiators' good side? Are they fearful of the Gladiators? By trying to destroy Havoc, will they get on the Aethrans good side? Will they be the new Gladiator tag team next year? Probably not, but what is on the mind of Zygon, the leader of Frontal Assault? I think this duo has a bright future.
Thraxx- Thraxx is the main reason that they are in this feud, he hates Havoc and wants nothing more than to destroy him. Will he be successful?
Deadliest- Deadliest may very well be just that in the female division, and she'll face She Devil. Zygon thinks that her distractions will be able to help him and Thraxx beat Havoc and Payback in singles competition, but with looks like the Deadliest has, how could she distract anyone?
Tristan- Here is a guy much like Endgame, an ultimate good guy. He is also different from Endgame in the fact that he allows too much nonsense and confusion on his team with Nitro and She Devil and his on again/ off again partnership with Payback. For being the leader of the Fighting Titans, there just doesn't seem to be much fight in Tristan. Maybe they should go back to being called the Flying Titans like they were way back in 2087-2088. The Titans need a firm leader and more guys on their team. I think they will get beat down by Betrayer and Nosfera.
Nitro- Nitro is a great character, but not worthy of being a Titan as he doesn't care what fans think of him, only cares for himself and his tramp girlfriend She Devil. This will be the ultimate demise of the duo of Tristan and Nitro. He needs to get his head in the game vs. Betrayer and Nosfera, two of the most dangerous men the GWF has ever seen.
She Devil- Anyone with Devil in their name can't be good news, yet this hot diva keeps bouncing around to different hero teams. One of these days, they'll learn that eye candy may be great for the eyes, but bad for a lot of other things. Does anyone other than me think that She Devil and Phantasy are the exact same type of character? I think that Deadliest will knock some of her pretty looks right off of her face and body.
Betrayer- The Betrayer is the one feeling betrayed right now by Sly Drury, but I don't think he can do anything about it right now. Even with Nosfera and Omen watching his back in an uneasy alliance, I don't think it wise of Betrayer to try to tangle with Drury. I think he'd be in for a serious beatdown. Will Betrayer and Tristan ever stop feuding and team up instead with his half-brother? Maybe they should join Divided We Fall and Mother Superior could convince them that she is their mother.
Omen- I loved it when Omen got a beating from Tricks and Oracle, it was great. I think that his alliance with Nosfera teaming with Betrayer will be a one year thing only. Look for Nosfera to be back to his fiendish ways next year. Maybe he'll have She Devil by his side and it'll make since for her to be side by side with a devil-like villain.
Nosfera- With a 3-month suspension, he could build up another alliance somehow and come back strong vs. Martial Law, but I don't think he will. He'll cause carnage for the 3 months away, then more for 9 months back. He just wants to destroy everything in his path and that may eventually include Betrayer.
Disaster- I hate that Disaster is gone, but what will happen to him now? Will he somehow return for revenge vs. the Aethran Overmaster or is he gone for good? He was a great main-event caliber star during his time in the GWF and will be greatly missed.
Rage- Oh well, Rage is gone. Who got attached to his character anyway? Will he be back? I doubt it.
Kill Prey- I guess his hunt is elsewhere, for now. But he will be missed as he was one of my favorite wrestlers. Maybe next year he and Wolf can hunt together. Wolf with a friend? Nah! Probably not. Maybe Kill Prey and Bounty Hunter will hang out. Just hope that Kill Prey doesn't let Reynard B. Guile near his cousin/sister/fellow Arkansas native. ;D
Valour- He is finally getting to leave the GWF. He has wanted that for quite a while. But, will he be able to return to the Second Realm. Hopefully his pupil, Mantis, will be as big of a star as he was.
Vin Strutter- I don't think we've seen the last of Vin. He will want his revenge. I predict he returns with a wrestler named Diesel so that he can be known as Vin's Diesel! Corny, I know. ;D
Troubleshooters- They are going to a different fed and I hope that it is the aCe. They have been a dominant force in the CPC and GWF, let them try out the aCe. I also wouldn't be opposed to them going to the POW, formerly the CPC. In any fed, this is an awesome tandem.
Martial Law 2124 was overall an awesome set. They always are. I am already looking forward to 2125. I have been playing COTG since around 1992. My dad bought me sets back then when I was 8 years old or so and I have loved the game ever since. We have every set of GWF, GWFC, CPC, POW, aCe, Legends, Classics, you name it, we have it. I'm now 25 years old and still loving every minute of the game. Thanks yet again Tom, and countless others for another successful game edition.
