I forgot about this, but just happened to remember.
While every promotion had their share of goofy characters and gimmicks, the one thing that always found me more of a Memphis/NWA/etc fan over the WWF (in their 80s expansion) was that the WWF ignored the history of a wrestler while the other promotions never did.
But I'm sure most of us were surprised that after years of seeing Ted DiBiase on Georgia and Mid South wrestling, he suddenly shows up in the WWF and he's a multi-millionaire.
Now you know the "Apter magazines" were strictly kayfabe back then. A few weeks back, I was at a flea market with a friend and saw some old "Apter magazines". (I wish I'd bought it now), but I saw one from sometime in 1987 after DiBiase made his way into the WWF.
I saw their explanation about how he was suddenly a millionaire and they had to explain it to the kayfabe fan base.
Did anyone, who read those magazines, remember or can guess? I got a chuckle out of it now, but probably believed it 100% 22 years ago.
