Thanks for the picks Crimson, Bookerbill, AJ, and Daytondave. WrestleCade VIII weekend begins now. I hope to have everything posted in full by the weekend. Hope you enjoy the action...
LOW - 6th Annual PWI Invitational Cup Tournament - Rome Memorial Gym - Rome, GA (Card #797)
First Round:
1) Antonino Rocca defeated Blackjack Mulligan: NWC star Antonino Rocca, the only former PWI Cup winner to qualify this year, took on SWA star Blackjack Mulligan in the opening bout of the first round. It was all Mulligan early as he used his power advantage to keep Rocca on the defensive. He hammered him with a series of right hands at the opening bell and also used a blatant claw choke to keep him grounded. Rocca drew from some crowd support and began battling back hitting the flying dropkicks and victory roll. He also used the crushing body scissors going for a submission but Mulligan got to the ropes for a break. A tense battle ended when Rocca went back to the crushing body scissors and then lifted the 340-pound Mulligan up into the Argentinian Backbreaker to score a submission victory.
2) Bob Roop defeated Ivan Koloff by DQ: Former Olympian Bob Roop of the SWA took on the tough challenge of GWA star Ivan Koloff. Nicknamed the “Russian Bear”, Koloff has been on a roll scoring key victories over Jimmy Snuka and Mil Mascaras in recent weeks. He was hoping to add Roop to that list and advance into the next round of the tournament. This match was very evenly fought throughout with some nice spots highlight it. Koloff went up top at one point but Roop caught him and executed a superplex. Koloff then rolled out onto the apron and grabbed Roop to gain control before going back up top to deliver a falling face slam. Koloff scored the only two count of the match after he hit the backbreaker over the knee. They wound up fighting out of the ring where Koloff grabbed his chain and hit Roop on the head with it. That blatant action resulted in the referee calling for the bell and awarding Roop the victory via disqualification.
3) Antonio Inoki defeated Mike Quackenbush: One of the more highly anticipated matches of the opening round saw KRU star Antonio Inoki take on CHIKARA founder Mike Quackenbush, a finalist in last year’s tournament. The opening sequence saw Quackenbush quickly trap Inoki in the Chikara Special going for the submission but it was broken up in the ropes. Quackenbush was looking good until he went for a back bodydrop off the ropes leading to Inoki countering with a karate kick to the head. He then trapped Quackenbush in the Octopus Hold but the CHIKARA star was able to quickly counter out of it. Inoki followed up with a belly to back suplex and a top rope kneedrop before Quackenbush caught him with Chain Lightning. He was attempting to set up for a Quackendriver but Inoki again trapped him in the Octopus Hold forcing Quackenbush to tap out. Inoki got the win via submission and then shook hands with Quackenbush drawing cheers from the crowd.
4) Bryan Danielson defeated The Grappler: The “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson faced The Grappler in a battle of PCW stars looking to advance to the next round. Danielson was on fire early nailing The Grappler with a barrage of high impact moves including the German Suplex, roundhouse kicks, and suicide dive. The Grappler needed to slow things down and he did just that by nailing Danielson with a knee lift. He took the match out to the floor and roughed up Danielson before kicking his boot into the ground presumably setting up for his controversial Loaded Boot. Danielson need to avoid that and he came back nailing The Grappler a suicide dive that nearly resulted in a count out decision. It was a short time later that Danielson trapped The Grappler in the Lebell Lock applied in mid-ring and that resulted in a submission victory for the “American Dragon”.
5) Tracy Smothers defeated The Mountie by DQ: The second disqualification decision in the opening round came after a tumultuous battle pitting popular SWA star the “Wild Eyed Southern Boy” Tracy Smothers against GWA star The Mountie. This match included a slew of near falls and even a referee bump before a chaotic finish. The Mountie was able to use his Shock Stick twice out of view of the referee but Smothers got his shoulder up just before the three count avoiding defeat. A subsequent Jawjacker by Smothers looked to be the end but somehow The Mountie kicked out of the pin. Smothers would then hit a moonsault bodyblock for a big near fall. Both men left it all out there in this battle which ended up on the outside where once again The Mountie went to the Shock Stick but this time the referee caught him calling for the disqualification. Smothers was in a lot of pain but he got his arm raised in victory and is moving on to the second round of the tournament.
6) The Terrible Turk defeated Austin Aries: The popular “A Double” Austin Aries of ROH went up against the feared Terrible Turk (Youssuf Ishmaelo) of the AWE and the result was a hard fought battle. Aries was on top in the early going catching The Turk with moves like the Heat Seeking Missile and the Crucifix Bomb. The Turk resorted to brawling tactics to gain control and he targeted the nose of Aries with punches and the nostril ripper. Aries fought fire with fire responding with punches to the face and then laying The Turk out with a Death Valley Driver. Things were looking good for Aries until The Turk took it out to the floor and roughed him up. He then went to the Neck Wrencher softening Aries up in an attempt to apply the controversial Stranglehold. Aries was able to avoid that and get back on offense until The Turk again cut him off and delivered the devastating Falling Bodyslam to score the pin and advance to the second round.
7) Hacksaw Jim Duggan defeated Giant Bernard: It was a battle of hosses as popular AWE star Hacksaw Jim Duggan went up against Giant Bernard of the GWA. Both men are known for their brawling style mixed with a power attack and that was on full display here. They traded heavy blows back and forth for much of this bout with Bernard taking over after a corner attack. He then executed a big double underhook suplex and Duggan rolled out of the ring to escape. Bernard followed him out but Duggan greeted him with a barrage of punches before driving him head first into the guard rail. Bernard was reeling from that blow and back inside it was Duggan executing a Piledriver to score the pin. The crowd erupted in cheers and chants of “Hyoooooo” as Duggan marched on to the second round.
8) Johnny Valentine defeated Roddy Piper: This was a fitting final match of the opening round and a main event in any arena in LOW as PCW star “Rowdy” Roddy Piper took on Johnny Valentine, now of the SWA and a member of the House of Humperdink. Sir Oliver Humperdink was at ringside for Valentine marking the first time that the two have worked together since the manager acquired his contract. Piper was on his game here and had Valentine in trouble many times over the course of the match. He caught him in the Sleeper Hold at one point but Humperdink distracted the referee prompting Piper to release the hold. Valentine made a strong comeback bid and twice nailed Piper with the Atomic Skullcrusher for big near falls. He also used his own version of the sleeper hold to wear Piper down. Piper made a dramatic comeback building to a controversial finish as he nailed Valentine with a pair of brass knuckles busting him open. He went for the pin but Humperdink broke it up by hitting Piper in the head with his Kendo Stick, an action that went undetected by the referee. Moments later a bloody and groggy Valentine rolled over on top of Piper and scored the pin. The crowd jeered the tainted win by Valentine but the equally illegal actions of Piper backfired on him in the end due to the timely interference of Humperdink.
The quarter-final and semi-final round matches in the tournament take place at Municipal Auditorium in Atlanta, GA (Card #798):
Antonino Rocca (NWC) vs. Bob Roop (SWA) Antonio Inoki (KRU) vs. Bryan Danielson (PCW) Tracy Smothers (SWA) vs. The Terrible Turk (AWE) Hacksaw Jim Duggan (AWE) vs. Johnny Valentine (SWA)
In addition, a 10-Team Gauntlet Match will take place with the winners getting an LOW World tag team title shot at WrestleCade VIII and this is the order of entry:
● Sabu & Rob Van Dam (NWC) ● Valiant Brothers (AWE) ● Mad Dog & Butcher Vachon (AWE) ● Midnight Express (SWA) ● Larry Zbyszko & John Pesek (AWE) ● Steve Williams & Terry Gordy (GWA) ● Nikolai Volkoff & Iron Sheik (NWC) ● John & Chris Tolos (AWE) ● Love Brothers (PCW) ● The Sheepherders (NWC)

Hard not to pick Inoki to win the tournament. Valentine Duggan should be a fun contest but Valentine should come out of his half of the bracket only to fall to Inoki in the finals.

Thanks for the picks guys. Here is night two and the continuation of WC VIII weekend and as you can see the dice had a mind of their own...
LOW - 6th Annual PWI Invitational Cup Tournament - Municipal Auditorium - Atlanta, GA (Card #798)
Quarter-Final Round:
1) Bob Roop defeated Antonino Rocca: It was three years ago that Antonino Rocca made it to the finals of the PWI Invitational Cup Tournament and defeated the “Russian Lion” George Hackenschmidt to win the honors at WrestleCade V in Pontiac, MI (Card #500). The popular NWC star was hoping to become the first two-time winner of the event but he would have to get past former Olympian Bob Roop of the SWA in this second round match. Rocca used his speed to control the pace early flustering Roop and attempting to set him up for the Argentinian Backbreaker. The turning point of a great bout saw Roop counter a back bodydrop with a piledriver followed up by the Shoulder Breaker for a big near fall. Roop kept on top of Rocca and followed with a spinning neckbreaker for a two count. A battle on the outside saw Roop drive Rocca shoulder first into the ring post and that set up a second delivery of the Shoulder Breaker resulting in the pin. It was a huge victory for Roop who shook hands with Rocca afterward to cheers from the crowd.
2) Antonio Inoki defeated Bryan Danielson: This highly anticipated quarter-final match saw Kings Road United star Antonio Inoki lock up with the “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson of PCW. Things opened with a hand shake before Inoki took over on offense using the cobra twist and belly to back suplex to great effect. Inoki also countered a back bodydrop attempt with a sunset flip for a two count. Danielson struck back scoring consecutive near falls with roundhouse kicks and a top rope huracanrana. The two would have some great exchanges from there before Inoki regained control and blasted Danielson with the Enzuigiri to score the pin. It was a quick and sudden finish with Inoki moving on to the semi-final round to face Bob Roop. Danielson was disappointed over the loss but gracious in defeat as he shook hands with Inoki and bowed to him out of respect.
3) The Terrible Turk defeated Tracy Smothers by Count Out: Popular SWA star “Wild Eyed Southern Boy” Tracy Smothers met the formidable challenge of AWE star The Terrible Turk (Youssuf Ishmaelo) in quarter-final round action. Smothers has won a very impressive seventy-three percent of his matches in LOW and was hoping to continue that success here. The Turk, a former holder of the LOW Tex-Arkana Television title, has long been one of the more feared wrestlers in LOW mainly due to his controversial Stranglehold finisher. He used his power advantage to control early crushing Smothers with repeated use of the falling bodyslam. Smothers would bounce back hitting a barrage of slingshot dropkicks and the moonsault bodyblock but he was unable to keep The Turk down for long. The Turk scored near falls with a counter roll-up out of the corner and a rib crusher. After a collision out of the corner knocked both men down they wound up brawling on the outside. The Turk took control and caught Smothers in the Stranglehold. He kept it on as the referee tolled the ten count and then released it at eight to roll back in and score a count out victory.
4) Hacksaw Jim Duggan defeated Johnny Valentine: In what some are calling a big upset it was the popular Hacksaw Jim Duggan of the AWE beating SWA star Johnny Valentine, a member of the House of Humperdink who had manager Sir Oliver Humperdink in his corner. The presence of Humperdink helped Valentine immensely as he prevented Duggan from scoring pins after both the Old Glory Kneedrop and the Flying Spear. He also interfered hitting Duggan with his kendo stick out of view of the referee allowing Valentine to score a big near fall. Valentine went on a nice offensive tying Duggan up with the armbar and battering him with chops and forearms. Things were looking good for Valentine until he missed with a corner charge and Duggan executed a Counter Roll-Up to score a snake eyes pin. The crowd erupted in cheers and chants of “Hyooooo” as the victorious Duggan grabbed his 2x4 and hit Humperdink with it gaining revenge for the kendo stick shot. An irate Valentine went after Duggan but then jumped out of the ring avoiding a shot with the 2x4. The end result was Duggan advancing to the semi-final round and moving one step closer to the grand prize.
5) 10-Team Gauntlet Match: John & Chris Tolos defeated The Sheepherders to advance: The luck of the draw has a lot to do with a match like this as the two starting teams, Sabu & Rob Van Dam and the Valiant Brothers (Jimmy “Boogie Woogie Man” Valiant & “Luscious” Johnny Valiant), would have to fend off nine other teams in order to claim the prize. That prize was a shot at the LOW World tag team titles held by the Fabulous Kangaroos (Al Costello & Roy Heffernan) at WrestleCade VIII (Card #800 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, GA). In past years a Battle Royal was held to determine the tag team title challengers at WrestleCade, sometimes featuring up to twenty teams, but LOW Commissioner Charlie Cox and the Board of Directors opted to change the format to a Gauntlet Match featuring ten top ranked tag teams. The order of entry was determined via random draw and revealed the previous night in Rome, GA (Card #797) during the first round of the sixth annual PWI Invitational Cup Tournament:
Order of Entry:
● Sabu & Rob Van Dam (NWC) ● Valiant Brothers (AWE) ● Mad Dog & Butcher Vachon (AWE) ● Midnight Express (SWA) ● Larry Zbyszko & John Pesek (AWE) ● Steve Williams & Terry Gordy (GWA) ● Nikolai Volkoff & Iron Sheik (NWC) ● John & Chris Tolos (AWE) ● Love Brothers (PCW) ● The Sheepherders (NWC)
Order of Elimination:
● Valiant Brothers (Sabu pinned Johnny Valiant – Triple Jump Moonsault) ● Mad Dog & Butcher Vachon (Disqualification – Outside Ring Attack) ● Sabu & Rob Van Dam (Disqualification – Arabian Facebuster) ● Larry Zbyszko & John Pesek (Bobby Eaton pinned Larry Zbyszko – Rocket Launcher) ● Steve Williams & Terry Gordy (Disqualification – Outside Ring Attack) ● Nikolai Volkoff & Iron Sheik (Dennis Condrey pinned Iron Sheik – Double Goozle) ● Midnight Express (Count Out) ● Love Brothers (Disqualification – Outside Ring Attack) ● The Sheepherders (John Tolos pinned Luke Williams – Flying Knee Drop) W) John & Chris Tolos
This was a total war from bell-to-bell with perhaps the most impressive performance coming from three-time LOW World tag team champions the Midnight Express (“Loverboy” Dennis Condrey & “Beautiful” Bobby Eaton, with manager Jim Cornette). They survived three teams – Sabu & Rob Van Dam, Larry Zbyszko & John Pesek, and Steve “Dr. Death” Williams & Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy – before losing on a count out to Nikolai Volkoff & Iron Sheik. A bloody and exhausted Condrey was unable to beat the ten count back into the ring leaving both Eaton and Cornette frustrated. In fact, Cornette left the ringside area leaving Eaton to tend to his fallen partner. The tension between Condrey and Cornette has reached a boiling point and one can only imagine what this means for the future of one of the greatest tag teams in LOW history. As for the winners, the Hamilton Wrecking Crew of John & Chris Tolos survived their battles with the Love Brothers (Reginald & Hartford Love) and The Sheepherders (Butch Miller & Luke Williams) to earn the title shot. It will be the first opportunity for the Tolos Brothers to regain the belts that they lost to the Fabulous Kangaroos in Hannover, Germany (Card #756).
Semi-Final Round:
6) Bob Roop defeated Antonio Inoki: In what could be considered the greatest night of his LOW career it was the former Olympian Bob Roop of the SWA beating KRU star Antonio Inoki to advance to the tournament finals at WrestleCade VIII. After earlier beating Antonino Rocca it looked to be an uphill climb for Roop going against Inoki who is generally considered to be among the elite in LOW. Inoki showed his mastery early by countering out of a reverse headlock and trapping Roop in a cobra twist. He followed with a top rope knee drop and then caught Roop with the Enzuigiri for a big near fall. Roop showed great resiliency surviving that finishing blow and struck back using a combination of technical skill and power. Late in the battle, after both men went down on a collision out of the corner, Roop would recover first hitting the gut wrench backbreaker for a big near fall. Moments later it was Roop catching Inoki with a Spinning Neckbreaker resulting in a snake eyes pin. The crowd erupted in cheers as Roop earned a hard fought win over Inoki and the two men shook hands following the bout. Inoki then raised the arm of Roop and hugged him before leaving the ring.
7) Hacksaw Jim Duggan defeated The Terrible Turk: Much like Bob Roop it was popular AWE star Hacksaw Jim Duggan overcoming serious odds to advance to the tournament finals at WrestleCade VIII as he defeated fellow AWE star The Terrible Turk (Youssuf Ishmaelo). After earlier beating the favored Johnny Valentine in a grueling bout, Duggan was determined to make it to the finals and he took full advantage by attacking The Turk as he was attempting to intimidate ring announcer Gary Michael Cappetta during the introductions. The Turk never got into this one as Duggan pretty much dominated the action. He nearly won it by count out after catching a charging Turk with a back bodydrop on the floor. As the action returned to the ring it was Duggan with a piledriver that shook up the feared star from Shumia, Turkey. Moments later, Duggan launched himself towards The Turk with the Flying Spear and covered him for the pin. The crowd erupted in cheers as the popular native from Glens Falls, NY, picked up a huge win advancing to the finals of the tournament. A victorious Duggan was then joined in the ring by fellow finalist Bob Roop. The two then locked hands staring the other down intensely as the crowd buzzed with anticipation. The mutual grip was released after a few moments with Roop then politely applauding Duggan and leaving the ring allowing him to soak in the cheers of the crowd.
The following is the finalized lineup for WrestleCade VIII taking place at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, GA (Card #800):
● LOW World Heavyweight title: Lou Thesz vs. The Sheik© ● LOW World tag team titles: Fabulous Kangaroos© vs. John & Chris Tolos ● LOW International Heavyweight title: Harley Race vs. George Hackenschmidt© ● Randy Savage & Bruiser Brody vs. Road Warriors ● Dog Collar Match: Bobo Brazil vs. Killer Kowalski ● Four Way Elimination Match: Magnum T.A. vs. Ted Dibiase vs. Frank Gotch vs. Fred Blassie ● The finals of the PWI Invitational Cup Tournament: Bob Roop vs. Hacksaw Jim Duggan ● Danny Hodge vs. Nick Bockwinkel ● SHIMMER title: Cheerleader Melissa© vs. Lufisto ● 10-Man Interpromotional Tag Team Match: Jim Londos, Ed Lewis, Jimmy Snuka, Tommy Rich, & Curt Hennig vs. Gorgeous George, Buddy Rogers, Cowboy Bob Orton, King Kong Bundy, & Ox Baker ● Little Beaver vs. Sky Low Low ● ROH tag team titles: Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Haas© vs. Kevin Steen & Jimmy Jacobs

You've got to love how this game can take you and to see Bob Roop over Antonio Inoki and Hacksaw Jim Duggan over The Terrible Turk to be the finals of the PWiT is so cool. I like either man to win, but to see Bob Roop win it all would be the tops...

A little bit of everything for Duggan tonight. Snake eyes pin off the Turnbuckle Chart and then a roll on the Cappetta card as well. He may very well win the whole thing. The build this year has once again been a fun ride. I am looking forward to the upcoming changes In the fall out from WrestleCade.

Thanks for the comments Crimson and Bookerbill, Hacksaw Jim Duggan really had the dice on his side there and it was cool to see. Next up is the calm before the storm, the combined CHIKARA-ROH show which will be the direct lead in to WrestleCade VIII...
CHIKARA vs. Ring of Honor - Its WCW Saturday Night! - WTBS Studios - Atlanta, GA (Card #799)
●LOW Commissioner Charlie Cox opened the show by announcing a special summit involving representatives from CHIKARA, Ring of Honor, and SHIMMER. He then brought out CHIKARA founder Mike Quackenbush and new Director of Fun Colt Cabana, Cary Silkin of ROH, and Dave Prazak of SHIMMER. Cox said that last year there was a lot of hostility between CHIKARA and ROH but that now the two promotions have agreed to a civil working relationship. In addition both promotions will have a working relationship with SHIMMER to have some of their stars make special appearances. All five men shook hands as ringside press took photos with Cox announcing that the opening match, a six-man tag team match involving popular stars from CHIKARA and ROH, will be a friendly rivalry match. He added that SHIMMER will also present a bonus Offer Match on the card featuring two of their toughest stars, Mercedes Martinez and Saraya Knight, doing battle. The crowd cheered the announcements made by Cox and geared up for the start of Its WCW Saturday Night!
1) Jigsaw, Hallowicked, & Frightmare defeated American Wolves & Jay Lethal: A tremendous opening match saw the CHIKARA tecnicos trio of Jigsaw, Hallowicked, & Frightmare face the popular ROH team of the American Wolves (Davey Richards & Die Hard” Eddie Edwards) and Jay Lethal. The action was fast and furious in this one which saw the CHIKARA team dominate on Edwards for a long stretch including Jigsaw hitting the Jig N’ Tonic for a big near fall. Frightmare, the reigning Young Lions Cup champion, was the star of the match hitting some of his spectacular aerial offense. Lethal slowed things down using the figure four leglock on Hallowicked setting him up for an attack by Richards. It was a defensive counter that finished things as Richards went for a back bodydrop off of the ropes but Hallowicked surprised him with a Counter Sunset Flip to score the pin. All six men shook hands after the hard fought match drawing cheers from the crowd.
2) Ultramantis Black defeated Kobald: The popular Ultramantis Black, leader of the Order of the Neo Solar Temple, faced Kobald of The Batiri in a match of former LOW Tex-Arkana Television champions. It was all Ultramantis early as he kept Kobald off balance hitting such moves as the electric chair, cosmic disaster, and La Safarina. He also hit the Argentine Facebuster for a big near fall. Kobald struck back hitting the spear but then was caught up top with a bodyslam by Ultramantis. The finishing sequence saw Ultramantis execute Rites of Spring leading to him hitting the Praying Mantis Bomb for the pin.
3) Forever Hooligans defeated Bad Influence: This rematch between ROH teams saw the Forever Hooligans (Alex Koslov & “Mr. Azucar” Rocky Romero) battle Bad Influence (“Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels & Kazarian). It was Bad Influence coming away with a win the first time out in Manhattan, NY (Card #790) in what was the debut for both teams in the company. It was looking like it would be a repeat result as BI dominated early on Koslov including Daniels hitting a Death Valley Driver. After Romero got the hot tag he turned things around catching Daniels with a top rope cross armbreaker and the Diablo Armbar. The Hooligans also nailed Daniels with the Contract Killer, an inverted Death Valley Driver by Koslov and springboard knee drop by Romero, for a big near fall with Kazarian making the save. Ultimately it would be Koslov winning it for his team when he caught Daniels with the Red Scare II, a Fisherman Buster into a Guillotine Choke, followed up by a Missile Dropkick to score the pin.
4) SHIMMER Offer Match: Mercedes Martinez defeated Saraya Knight by DQ: Anytime that the “Latina Sensation” Mercedes Martinez and the equally dangerous Saraya Knight lock up its bound to be a war and this SHIMMER Offer Match was no exception. Knight dominated most of the early action and used both the Knightmare and Bridled Rocking Horse for submission chances. Martinez weathered the storm and struck back going blow for blow with Knight. The two exchanged stiff forearms before Knight hit a DDT out of nowhere for a big near fall. They would also fight out to the floor several times and that is where this one was decided. As the two traded blows in front of ringsiders it was Knight getting the upper hand dropping Martinez throat first across the guard rail and then running her head first into the ring post. That action resulted in the referee calling for the bell giving Martinez a very painful disqualification victory over her fierce rival.
5) No DQ Match: Eddie Kingston defeated Tursas: The match between Mercedes Martinez and Saraya Knight was a perfect lead in for this No DQ grudge match between the “War King” Eddie Kingston and Tursas. It was Tursas that helped former CHIKARA Director of Fun Larry Sweeney win the 12-Large Grand Championship from Kingston in Philadelphia, PA (Card #769) and the “War King” has been looking for revenge ever since. He got some with help from new DOF Colt Cabana who sent Sweeney off on a “vacation” and signed this match between the two titans of CHIKARA. There was nothing pretty about this match as both men battled in and out of the ring. Kingston connected with both the Sliding D and the Backfist to the Future but Tursas kicked out just before the three count. Tursas battled back hard using his immense size and nailed Kingston with the Kruez Bomb followed by the Black Hole Slam for a big near fall. Kingston wound up being busted open in the latter stages of the match but he shook off the blood loss and connected with a second Backfist to the Future on the 375-pound Tursas to score the pin.
6) Tyler Black defeated El Generico: Chants of “Ole, Ole, Ole!” filled WTBS Studios as the popular El Generico hit the ring to take on Tyler Black, one-third of the Kings of Wrestling, in this special match presented by ROH. Generico was dominant early, including hitting the corkscrew moonsault, but another dive off of the top rope missed and saw Black follow with up with a Buckle Bomb for a two count. Black took over on offense and used the Buckle Bomb a few more times to rough up Generico. A superkick followed up by a gutbuster resulted in another two count for Black. Generico stormed back and caught Black with an exploder suplex into the turnbuckles before dropping him with the Spike Brainbuster for a big near fall. Black would get the victory, though, when he caught Generico with God’s Last Gift, which is a Fisherman’s Buster rolled into a cradle hold, for the pin.
7) CHIKARA Campeonatos de Parejas: The Colony defeated The Roughnecks (2-1) to win the titles: CHIKARA Director of Fun Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana entered to Copa Cabana by Barry Manilow with the crowd singing along. He took the microphone from ring announcer Gavin Loudspeaker and shook hands with him and Senior Official Bryce Remsburg before addressing the crowd. He said that the Campeonatos de Parejas are one of the most respected championships in LOW and that he was proud to present this special championship match during WrestleCade VIII weekend. The Colony (Fire Ant & Soldier Ant) then hit the ring followed by defending champions The Roughnecks (Brodie Lee & Grizzly Redwood) along with their controversial manager The Dark Menace. Cabana stepped in between the two sides along with Remsburg to explain the two-out-of-three falls rules for the match. The Colony were fired up as this was their first shot at the titles in the more than three years that CHIKARA has been under the LOW banner. The Roughnecks, in turn, have held the belts for over one year and were looking to make their version seven defense of the championship.
First Fall: The opening moments saw Fire Ant stun Lee and nearly pin him with the Beach Break. That set off a hectic pace for the opening fall which featured a ton of near falls scored on both sides. The Dark Menace attempted to interfere at one pint as Fire Ant had Redwood pinned but Soldier Ant cut off the interfering manager. It was Lee striking back hard with a choke slam on Fire Ant that nearly resulted in a three count. Soldier Ant was able to reverse the momentum late in the fall and joined with Fire Ant to deliver the tandem diving stomps. That set up Fire Ant nailing Redwood with the Burning Hammer for a big near fall. The crowd was going crazy with all of the momentum switches and near finishes in the fall. The finish came when Soldier Ant caught Lee with the saluting headbutt. A tag to Fire Ant saw him nail the “Big Rig” with a Leaping Kick to score the pin and put The Colony up 1-0.
Second Fall: The physically imposing and intense Lee gained some revenge in the second fall using the package piledriver and chokeslam to lay out both members of The Colony. He set up Redwood who took over on offense nailing Soldier Ant with the Big Axe-Handle for a two count. The Roughnecks then combined to hit their devastating Roughnecked, which is Lee power bombing Redwood on top of the downed opponent, on Soldier Ant for a big near fall. The Colony had some hope spots in the fall but were unable to reverse the momentum for an extended stretch. The finish came when Lee nailed Soldier Ant with the Big Boot to score the pin and tie up the match at 1-1.
Third Fall: The third and deciding fall opened with a great sequence as Lee nailed Soldier Ant with a package piledriver. That led to Soldier Ant bailing out of the ring and Lee following resulting in Fire Ant and Redwood entering according to the lucha libre style tag rules. Fire Ant quickly caught Redwood with a missile dropkick and lifted him up into a Torture Rack for a submission chance. He followed with a reverse TKO for a big near fall with Lee making a last second save. Later in the fall it was The Colony having Lee pinned after the tandem diving stomps but The Dark Menace hit Soldier Ant in the head with his cane to break it up. Redwood followed up tagging in and caught Soldier Ant in the stronghold submission. Soldier Ant weathered the storm and began a furious comeback. It came down to him and Lee duking it out and after Soldier Ant connected with a spinning elbow strike he dropped the “Big Rig” with the TKO to score the pin. The crowd erupted in cheers as The Colony won it 2-1 and became the new Campeonatos de Parejas ending the lengthy and impressive title reign of The Roughnecks.
8) ROH Heavyweight title: AJ Styles defeated Adam Cole to win the title: More history was made in an epic main event that saw “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles challenge Adam Cole for the ROH Heavyweight title. The crowd was pro-Styles cheering on the native of nearby Gainesville, GA. Cole, who hails from Panama City, FL, was looking to make his version two defense of the championship. Both men shook hands at the bell adhering to the Code of Honor which is a change for Styles in recent weeks. Cole took over on offense early and nearly put Styles away with both the Panama Sunrise and a flying bodypress coming off of the top rope. Styles regrouped and went on the attack nailing Cole with the Pele Kick and springboard 450 Splash. He had the champion on the defensive until Cole caught him with the Florida Key, a cross-armed German Suplex, for a big near fall. In the latter stages of the bout both men had been busted open and were showing signs of fatigue. Cole took Styles out with a brainbuster onto the knee and a superkick. Styles looked to be out of it when he suddenly reversed a corner whip and would subsequently nail Cole with an enzuigiri. Cole collapsed to the mat and Styles quickly went up top and hit his patented Spiral Tap to score the pin. The crowd exploded at the count of three as Styles had captured the ROH Heavyweight title in dramatic fashion. Both men lay down on the mat exhausted post-match but when they got to their feet it was Cole in a classy gesture adhering to the Code of Honor and handing the title belt to Styles.
