Thanks for the comments Pariah and Daytondave. The action in SHIMMER is always pretty intense as evidenced by that cage match and the four-way upcoming over the SHIMMER title. Next up it is back to IWA action featuring the debut of a new Bullet Club member and the first defense of the IWA Heavyweight title...
IWA - Fight Fire With Fire - PAL Building - Danbury, CT (Card #919)
1) Ricochet, PJ Black, & Tadarius Thomas defeated Mikey O’Shea, Trent Barreta, & Johnny Yuma:
Exciting six-man tag team action opened things up as Ricochet, PJ Black, & Tadarius “TD” Thomas took on Mikey O’Shea, Trent Barreta, & Johnny Yuma. The action went back and forth throughout the contest and featured some great high flying action from all but O’Shea. The powerful star from Charlestown, MA, instead used his size to his advantage especially when dominating Ricochet for a good stretch. Barreta and Yuma contributed as well and things looked bad for Ricochet until he was able to make the tag. Black wound up hitting his patented 450 Splash on Barreta for a big near fall late in the match. Thomas helped set up the finish combining with Ricochet on a series of tandem kicks on Yuma. That was followed up by Ricochet hitting his breathtaking 630 Senton on Yuma to score the pin.
2) Lance Hoyt defeated Ron Hutchison:
Veteran journeyman star Ron Hutchison out of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, had the tough task of taking on the “American Psycho” Lance Hoyt who is part of the Pringle Dynasty headed up by Percy Pringle III. Hutchison impressed early including trapping Hoyt in the Shediac Lobster Trap but he powered out of the hold. Hutchison then went for a deathjump but missed and Hoyt dropped an elbow for a two count. With Pringle looking on Hoyt followed blasting Hutchison with a Big Boot for the pin.
3) reDRagon defeated Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Haas by DQ:
Feature tag team action saw “Wrestling’s Greatest Tag Team”, Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Haas, take on reDRagon (Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly). Benjamin was very aggressive early scoring back to back near falls on Fish with a corner splash and Paydirt. Haas kept the momentum going trapping Fish in the Haas of Pain but it was O’Reilly making the save. O’Reilly helped turn things around for reDRagon and caught Benjamin with Armageddon for a submission chance. He also executed the Axe and Smash, an axe kick followed by a rolling elbow. Fish contributed as well before WGTT went back on the offensive. In the end it was Haas losing his cool on the outside when he ran Fish head first into the ring post resulting in the disqualification decision.
4) IWA J-Crown Elimination Match: Chuck Taylor defeated ACH:
IWA Commissioner David Marquez made the introductions for this match which was the first in a series of elimination matches to determine the first IWA J-Crown champion at Supercard of Honor (Card #949 at Soldier Field in Chicago, IL). The elimination round kicked off with a bang as Young Lions Cup winner ACH took on the “Kentucky Gentleman” Chuck Taylor. The early action was pretty intense as ACH struck with the Big Bang Attack for a big near fall and then hit The Best 450 Ever. Taylor gained control on the outside and hit a somersault suicide dive and then caught ACH in a Cross Crab. ACH battled back executing Tiger Mask before he laid Taylor out with Fatality, a rope assisted rolling cutter. Things were looking bleak for Taylor when he surprised ACH with a Turnbuckle Power Bomb and rolled him up pulling the tights for extra leverage to score a snake eyes pin.
The crowd jeered the decision and those jeers grew louder when Joey Ryan, who wasn’t even scheduled to appear, ran in and helped Taylor beat down ACH afterward. As Taylor and Ryan left it was an angry ACH grabbing the mic and calling out Ryan saying he wanted a match with him. Ryan balked and laughed it off saying that ACH doesn’t even have an IWA contract. Marquez then stepped in and said that Ryan had no right to do what he did so he said Ryan would face ACH on the next card in Baltimore, MD (Card #922) with the added stipulation that ACH will get an IWA contract if he wins drawing cheers from the crowd.
5) Brian Cage defeated Green Ant:
The powerful Green Ant, one-third of The Colony, took on “The Machine” Brian Cage, a member of the Pringle Dynasty who was accompanied by Percy Pringle III. It was a grueling battle as both men looked determined to pick up the victory. Green Ant was very impressive in the match using holds like the single leg grapevine and the half crab to wear Cage down. Cage battled back hitting the delayed superplex and pulling the Star Elbow out of his Multi-Move Paragon collection. Green Ant came close to victory when he locked on the Good Luck Cloverleaf but Cage was able to grab the ropes for a break. Green Ant pushed Cage to the limit but “The Machine” was able to claim a victory in the end. After a powerful offensive it was Cage hitting the devastating Weapon X to score a snake eyes pin.
6) Diamond Dallas Page defeated Nigel McGuinness:
It was the battle of the Diamond Cutter versus the Jawbreaker Lariat as popular Jersey Shore native Diamond Dallas Page took on British star Nigel McGuinness. DDP was dominant early in this one catching McGuinness with the discus clothesline and Russian Leg Sweep. McGuinness countered with a standing headbutt but that led to DDP hitting his own counter with the Diamond Dream scoring a big near fall. The crowd was rocking as this one built to a dramatic conclusion which saw DDP catch McGuinness coming back into the ring with a surprise Diamond Cutter to score the pin. Chants of “DDP” rang throughout the building as he picked up a big win. DDP drew more cheers when he motioned around his waist indicating that he was looking for a shot at the IWA Heavyweight title.
● The House of Truth (LOW Tex-Arkana Television champion Roderick Strong, Delirious, Rhino and Matt Taven) were led to ringside by Truth Martini. The five men were met by jeers from the crowd as they waved their hardware around, Strong with the television title and Delirious, Rhino and Taven with the King of Trios medals. Martini bragged about the dominance of the House of Truth not only in King of Trios but back in Ring of Honor. He said that now that they are in the IWA all of the gold will belong to them and that there is nothing that anyone can do about it. He began running down Bullet Club, the freelance faction led by AJ Styles, and said that at King of Trios they failed to get the job done against Delirious, Rhino and Taven. He said that the upcoming eight-man tag team match would actually be a handicap match as there was no one that was going to be “stupid enough” to align themselves with Bullet Club. That led to Styles hitting the ring followed by The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) for a tense stand off between the two sides. Martini continued taunting them until Styles grabbed the mic and simply said two words in introducing the newest member of Bullet Club – Adam Cole! The crowd erupted in cheers as Cole, a two-time ROH Heavyweight champion, made his way down to ringside wearing a Bullet Club t-shirt. A frustrated Martini quickly jumped out of the ring as the eight men prepared to square off…
7) AJ Styles, Matt Jackson, Nick Jackson, & Adam Cole defeated Roderick Strong, Delirious, Rhino, & Matt Taven:
This was an amazing match from the opening bell to the finish. Both teams went all out in trying to secure a big victory but things nearly ended early when Styles hit the Pele Kick followed by the Styles Clash on Strong for a big near fall. Delirious turned things around and with some help from Martini nearly won it by count out as he laid out Matt after a spear into the ring post. Martini held the legs of Matt out of view of the referee as he tried to beat the ten count back in. Nick then saved him by blasting Martini with a running dropkick allowing Matt to roll back in at the count of nine. Martini was out cold and he and his Book of Truth were rendered ineffective for the remainder of the match. A big spot saw Rhino catch Nick on the top rope taking him down with a bodyslam. He then sized him up and hit the Gore! for what looked to be a sure pin but Cole made a last second save. Styles made a comeback for his team planting Rhino with the Styles Clash but the “Man Beast” kicked out just before the three count. The crowd was at a fever pitch by this point and the finish saw The Young Bucks nail Taven with More Bang For Your Buck allowing Nick to cover him for the pin. The Bullet Club gained a measure of revenge against the House of Truth while also introducing a major addition in Cole. It will be interesting to see when the freelance faction will return to the IWA but you can be sure that Martini and the House of Truth will be targeting them for some revenge.
8) IWA Heavyweight title: Mike Quackenbush© defeated Kevin Steen to retain the title:
The main event was for all the marbles as “Wrestling’s Worst Nightmare” Kevin Steen challenged “Lightning” Mike Quackenbush for the IWA Heavyweight title. The defending champion, a member of the Pringle Dynasty, was accompanied by his manager Percy Pringle III but that had no affect on Steen who stared them down from across the ring. Quackenbush looked a little uneasy especially as the crowd began chanting “Kill Steen Kill” but Pringle calmed him down by whispering something into his ear. Ring announcer Gavin Loudspeaker, flanked by IWA Commissioner David Marquez and IWA Senior Referee Bryce Remsburg, hyped up the crowd as he announced the participants in the championship match. Dr. Mike Lano, the official photographer of the IWA, was on the outside snapping photos that will likely appear in an upcoming edition of Pro Wrestling Illustrated.
Steen blasted Quackenbush with a superkick in the opening moments but then missed with a charge into the corner. Quackenbush followed with a counter roll-up for a two count and then sent Steen out of the ring. Lano narrowly avoided the two men battling at ringside but got some nice shots of the action. Quackenbush took control back inside hitting the Jig N’ Tonic but then missed with a dive from the top rope allowing Steen to score a near fall. Steen took control and leveled Quackenbush with the power bomb onto the ring apron drawing a look of anguish from both the champion and Pringle. Steen was looking strong until Quackenbush again gained control on the outside sending the challenger into the ring post. Not long after that Steen was busted open and in a bad way as Quackenbush blasted him with a missile dropkick from the top rope. Quackenbush then pounced on Steen and executed the Quackendriver to score the pin while pushing on the bottom rope for extra leverage. The ref missed that infraction and Quackenbush was successful in his version one defense of the title. A bloody Steen went after Quackenbush post-match but Pringle pulled him out of the ring with the two men heading for the safety of the locker room. It was a bitter defeat for Steen but he will no doubt be heard from again in the chase for the IWA Heavyweight title.
