Thanks for the comments Pariah, Crimson, AJ, Daytondave and Bookerbill. Now we move on to the second night of KRU action from Sapporo, I hope that you enjoy it...
LOW Kings Road United - Nakajima Sports Center - Sapporo, Japan (Card #933)
1) C.W. Anderson defeated Johnny Rodz:
With IWA photographer Dr. Mike Lano stationed at ringside, C.W. Anderson took on the “Unpredictable” Johnny Rodz of LOW All-Star Wrestling. Anderson held the upper hand early and caught Rodz with the hanging suplex and Anderson Left Hand for a pair of two counts. Rodz showed some resiliency coming back with a middle rope hammer stunning Anderson. Rodz proved to be a tough foe but in the end it was Anderson hitting his trademark Spinebuster to score the pin.
2) Rockin Robin defeated April Hunter:
The Ring Angels took center stage in Sapporo as Rockin Robin took on the formidable challenge of April Hunter. Nicknamed “Big Red”, Hunter is a former two-time holder of the SHIMMER tag team titles having held the belts with Madusa Miceli and Jazz. Robin knew she had to be at the top of her game and she dominated early including hitting the Flying Bulldog for a near fall. Hunter fought back into it with a counter running lariat out of the corner and then used the Hunter’s Hangman and the power bomb to control the action. After a tense battle on the outside it was Robin surprising Hunter with a Middle Rope Sunset Flip to score the pin.
3) Young Bucks defeated Louis Lyndon & Erick Stevens:
The team of Louis Lyndon and the newly signed Erick Stevens of KRU took on Bullet Club members the Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) in what was a great tag match. The Bucks thought they had it won early when they hit the Indytaker on Lyndon but Stevens made a last second save. That was a pivotal moment as Lyndon and Stevens began turning things around. Stevens nearly won it when he nailed Matt with the Doctor Bomb but Nick broke up the pin. Lyndon looked great during his time in and wound up trapping Matt in the Dragon Sleeper. He looked as if he was about to tap out when Nick raced in and broke it up with a dropkick. Stevens tried to get involved but the referee sent him out and moments later the Bucks executed More Bang For Your Buck on Lyndon with Nick scoring the pin.
4) War Machine defeated Harley Race & Silas Young:
The real men were on display here as Harley Race joined forces with Silas Young, the “Last Real Man in Professional Wrestling”, to battle War Machine (Hanson & Raymond Rowe). The early action saw War Machine looking impressive as they were able to maintain the upper hand on Race, a two-time LOW World Heavyweight champion, and that included Rowe scoring a two count with a stalling suplex. Race battled back and scored a two count on Rowe by coming off of the top rope with a flying bodypress. Young had a strong showing against War Machine as he used the backbreaker to score near falls on both men. The end of a hard fought battle came when Hanson and Rowe caught Race with War Machine, a combination side slam and top rope legdrop, and it was Hanson covering him to score the pin as Rowe cut off a save attempt by Young. It was a huge victory for War Machine especially scoring a fall over Race one of the longest tenured stars in LOW. Young was upset over the loss and began yelling at Race as War Machine left the ring. It wound up with Young blaming Race for the loss and then challenging him to a match on the final night of the tour in Tokyo. The crowd urged Race to accept and he did just that answering yes to the challenge and then decking Young for good measure!
5) Steve Williams, Terry Gordy, & The Mongols vs. Masked Superstar, Big John Studd, Mr. Fuji, & Mr. Saito was a DDQ:
Eight-man tag team action saw Steve “Dr. Death” Williams, Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy and The Mongols (Bepo & Geeto) square off with the Masked Superstar, Big John Studd, Mr. Fuji and Mr. Saito. The interesting booking style in KRU saw Gordy and Williams on opposite sides of the Masked Superstar who they teamed with to win a six-man tag team match on the opening night of the tour. Their brief alliance was not evident here as competition is the name of the game and the Superstar had some great exchanges with Gordy and Williams during the bout. The most epic moments came when Gordy was in against Studd and a Bamm Bamm Slam led to a big near fall on the 364-pound star from Los Angeles, CA. Those two would also be directly involved in the finish as Gordy executed a Power Bomb on Studd and went for the pin but that set off a four-way brawl. Everyone began battling in and out of the ring and the referee was unable to get things under control so he called for the bell ending it in a double disqualification.
6) Antonio Inoki defeated Ed Lewis:
A fired up Antonio Inoki hit the ring for this match with Ed “Strangler” Lewis coming off a heated tag team match the night before in Yokohama. That match saw Lewis and Fred Blassie defeat Inoki and Rikidozan but afterward Inoki injured Blassie using the Octopus Hold. Blassie, who had his ribs taped up from the attack, headed down to ringside before the match but was cut off by KRU officials. Dr. Mike Lano tried to get a picture of the “King of Men” but Blassie grabbed his camera and threw it to the ground. Fortunately a member of the Japanese press handed Lano another camera so he could document the match. Lewis used the distraction to his advantage and dominated the early part of the match. He tied Inoki up with holds like the front facelock and double wristlock. Inoki fought back and took the battle to the floor where both men traded blows. Lewis attempted to set up for his finisher, the Strangler’s Headlock, but Inoki was able to avoid it. The finish came in a flash when Inoki trapped Lewis in the Cobra Twist and got the victory via a snake eyes submission.
The crowd cheered the huge win for Inoki but tension again built up after the match as Rikidozan came out to congratulate him. Lewis took exception to that and tried to get physical but it backfired as Inoki and Rikidozan took turns chopping him. As the two left the ring an angry Lewis grabbed the mic and issued an open challenge to Rikidozan. It was later learned that a phone call was placed to LOW Commissioner Charlie Cox and has resulted in a special attraction match between Rikidozan and Lewis which will be hosted by the SWA and take place on the upcoming card at the Omni in Atlanta, GA (Card #936).
7) Giant Baba & The Destroyer defeated Giant Bernard & Dan Spivey by Count Out:
Feature tag team action saw Shohei “Giant” Baba & The “Intelligent, Sensational” Destroyer take on the intimidating GWA tag team of Giant Bernard & “Dangerous” Dan Spivey. That intimidation factor took a hit the night before in Yokohama when Bernard and Spivey were laid out by Bullet Club (AJ Styles, Adam Cole, & Young Bucks) so they came to the ring determined to send a message to the confident faction. Both teams were really on here utilizing quick tags and great teamwork which kept the fans at a fever pitch. The Destroyer was the star of the match getting in some great offense against his larger opponents. That included hitting the sensation suplex and a Bombs Away on Spivey for a near fall. Both Bernard and Spivey also had good offensive runs which included Bernard hitting the Bernard Bomb on Baba at one point. The finishing sequence saw The Destroyer trap Spivey in the intelligent sleeper hold going for the submission but he got to the ropes for a break. Baba then hit the Jumping Neckbreaker Drop on Spivey but Bernard made a last second save. The finish of a hard fought bout saw them battling on the outside where Baba caught a charging Spivey with the 16-Mon Kick, or boot to the face. Baba was able to beat the ten count back in but Spivey was laid out. As a result he was counted out of the ring and Baba and The Destroyer picked up the victory.
8) Rikidozan defeated Fred Blassie:
A highly anticipated main event, and a rematch from the Tokyo Dome (Card #901), saw Rikidozan take on the “King of Men” Fred Blassie. Dr. Mike Lano bravely took a picture of Blassie on his way into the ring and the silver haired star flashed his freshly filed vampire-like teeth at him. Blassie had his ribs taped up courtesy of Antonio Inoki and was going to be at a disadvantage as he attempted to pick up a third straight decision over Rikidozan. As for Rikidozan he was faced with the fact that not only was he going against his arch rival in Blassie but the following night he would be going against both Inoki and Giant Baba, his protégés, in a Triple Threat Match to see who would get an LOW World Heavyweight title match at the Seibu Dome (Card #950). If that weren’t enough Ed “Strangler” Lewis showed up at ringside to taunt Rikidozan about their upcoming match scheduled in Atlanta. The KRU founder clearly had a lot on his mind but KRU officials made sure that Lewis was escorted to the back and then the referee issued his instructions before calling for the bell.
The tension was so thick you could cut it with a knife as these two rivals prepared to square off. Blassie was very aggressive early but was unable to get a sustained advantage as Rikidozan countered him several times. The injured ribs were giving Blassie problems and that was evident when both men went down from a double clothesline off of the ropes. Blassie struggled to recover and Rikidozan took full advantage of the situation. He wound up nailing Blassie with the Thunderous Chops and covered him to score the pin. The crowd erupted in cheers as Rikidozan picked up a huge win over Blassie avenging his loss at the Tokyo Dome. Blassie tried to get some revenge with a post-match attack but Rikidozan was able to drive him out of the ring. As Rikidozan celebrated his win he was joined in the ring by Inoki and Baba and it turned into a pretty intense scene as each man had his eyes set on the prize – the LOW World Heavyweight title shot at the Seibu Dome. They ultimately shook hands with each other and Lano snapped some key photos ending a great night of action in Sapporo.
