Thanks very much for the comments Kat Rana and Crimson. There was no way that "The Brain" was going to appear before the humanoids as he and Andre had better things to do The Adrian Street promo was fun to write. I reall enjoy trying to capture what the guys might say or do and I especially enjoy writing for the heels as you saw on that show. Roderick Strong has been on fire and thirty defenses would definitely be pretty cool to see. Next up is that start of a three show KRU tour, hope you enjoy the action...
LOW Kings Road United - Hiroshima Sun Plaza - Hiroshima, Japan (Card #1012)
1) TJ Perkins defeated Voodoo Kaos:
The opening contest saw talented free agent star TJ Perkins out of Los Angeles, CA, taking on Bullet Club member Voodoo Kaos. The unorthodox Kaos controlled the early part of the match hitting such moves as Kaostrophe, a sit-out inverted suplex slam, and the top turnbuckle guillotine legdrop. Perkins had a hard time finding an opening until countering a corner charge with a knee to the head. Perkins would then strike with a dropkick to the knee off of an Irish whip to the ropes and then trapped Kaos in the Figure Four Deathlock, a leglock cloverleaf, picking up a submission victory.
2) Ultramantis Black & Dr. Cube defeated Power Surge:
The exciting young team of Power Surge (William Forve & Paul Pope), recent graduates of the KRU dojo, took on free agent stars Ultramantis Black & Dr. Cube, two longtime favorites when appearing in KRU. The strange box headed Dr. Cube was accompanied by his Minions who lurked around ringside. Forve did a great job early as he took the fight to Ultramantis including blasting him with High heat, a European Uppercut off the ropes. Pope then nailed Ultramantis with Boarding, a pounce into the turnbuckle, resulting in a big near fall. Dr. Cube, with an outside assist from the Minions, turned the tables on Power Surge and scored a near fall on Forve after he delivered the controversial poison mist. Ultramantis would redeem himself scoring a two count on Pope with a double knee backbreaker. The finish of a hard fought match saw Ultramantis catch Pope with the Praying Mantis Bomb to score the pin.
3) Killer Kowalski defeated Shynron:
The high flying Shynron, another recent graduate of the KRU dojo, had a tough assignment here taking on the feared Killer Kowalski who is now a part of the Golden Age Wrestling roster. Shynron tried to take the lead early but Kowalski quickly countered tearing at his mask and delivering a backbreaker for a one count. The veteran Kowalski was relentless in his attack and he quickly cinched the Kowalski Claw onto the stomach of Shynron resulting in a snake eyes submission victory. Kowalski kept the punishing hold on post-match until Matt Riddle ran in along with a number of KRU officials. Riddle took exception to the actions of Kowalski but then the “Nature Boy” Buddy Rogers arrived and shoved him from behind. Riddle went into a fighting stance as Kowalski and Rogers moved in but the officials were able to keep the two sides apart. Riddle, scheduled to face Rogers later on the card, yelled out to other officials at ringside and it was later confirmed that he and Shynron would team up against Rogers and Kowalski on the next card in Sapporo (Card #1013).
4) Reno Scum defeated Forever Hooligans:
The Forever Hooligans (Alex Koslov & Rocky Romero), now under contract to KRU, had the crowd on their side as they took on the free agent tag team of Reno Scum (Luster the Legend & Adam Thornstowe). Unfortunately for the Hooligans that crowd support did them no good as Luster nearly put Koslov away via submission with the Texas Cloverleaf mere moments into the match. He and Thornstowe then hit the Scum Stomp on Koslov but Romero made the save in the nick of time. Koslov was in a bad way and a second Scum Stomp resulted in a big near fall. Luster then went up top and nailed Koslov with a Flying Clothesline to score the pin as Thornstowe prevented Romero from making the save. Reno Scum sent a strong message on the opening night of the tour with a big win over the Forever Hooligans.
5) Buddy Rogers defeated Matt Riddle:
A fired up Matt Riddle hit the ring to take on “Nature Boy” Buddy Rogers, a Triple Crown title winner in LOW and now part of the Golden Age Wrestling roster. After the earlier incident where Riddle saved Shynron from an attack by Killer Kowalski leading to Rogers getting involved as well, and setting up a tag team match between the four in Sapporo, one had to expect some serious heat in this match. Riddle surprised Rogers with a counter sunset flip early for a one count and then caught him in the Fujiwara armbar. Rogers struck back countering a belly to belly suplex and then trapped Riddle in the Figure Four Grapevine. It looked to be over but somehow it was reversed by Riddle into the ropes for a break. Rogers then got desperate and went for a pin using the ropes but Riddle kicked out. Riddle bounced back hitting a bridging German suplex and a Gotch style power bomb shaking up Rogers. The “Nature Boy” managed to recover and twice hit the piledriver on Riddle and caught him with an Atomic Drop to score the pin. It was a hard fought victory for Rogers as Riddle pushed him to the limit in what was a great match.
6) Michael Bennett & Brent Albright defeated The Fantastics:
The popular duo of The Fantastics (Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers) entered the arena to Sharp Dressed Man by ZZ Top to take on the pairing of Michael Bennett & Brent Albright who were accompanied by the beautiful Maria Kanellis, the fiancée of Bennett. The duo of Bennett and Kanellis has signed contracts with KRU and the press at ringside made sure to cover her every move. The action went at a quick pace in the early going including Fulton surprising Albright with the Fantastic Cradle for a two count. Bennett then caught Rogers with the Go Back To Japan, his version of the Anaconda Vice, for a submission chance. The Fantastics used their double team moves like the leapfrog arm breaker and double monkey flip to keep Bennett and Albright on the defensive. Albright, however, turned things around with a strong attack on Rogers. Bennett joined in and hit his trademark Piledriver but Fulton made the save breaking up the pin. Maria argued with the referee on the ring apron over that giving the press some more photo opportunities. The finish of a great bout saw Albright trap Rogers in the Crowbar but Fulton made another save. Bennett then tackled Fulton out of the ring as Albright followed with the 6-1-Knee on Rogers to score the pin. Maria celebrated with a kiss for Bennett as Albright relished in their big win. The Fantastics have been embroiled in a major feud with Jim Cornette and the Midnight Express stateside and one has to wonder if that had anything to do with them not being prepared properly for Bennett and Albright. Fulton and Rogers, however, made no excuses as they spoke to the press post-match and said they hoped to regroup in their remaining matches on the tour.
7) Mr. Fuji defeated Curt Hennig:
The semi-final match saw Curt Hennig, now competing for the Capitol Wrestling Alliance, take on the “Devious One” Mr. Fuji who was accompanied by Mr. Saito. It was only for the introductions, though, as the referee had KRU officials escort Saito to the back before the action got underway. Hennig looked great in the early going and managed to execute the Hennig Plex but Fuji used his free hand to deliver a chop to the ribs breaking it up. Fuji then gained control with the Fuji Nerve Grip but Hennig powered out and nailed him with a standing dropkick scoring a two count. After a battle on the outside it was Fuji going for a double chop off of the second rope but the referee was knocked down as well. That set off a torrid battle while the referee was down and included Fuji tossing salt in the eyes of Hennig. Saito then returned to ringside and assaulted Hennig on the floor drawing jeers from the crowd. After the official recovered it was Fuji nailing Hennig with the Banzai Drop to score the pin.
8) Antonio Inoki, Giant Baba, The Destroyer & Jushin Liger defeated AJ Styles, Adam Cole & Young Bucks:
The main event was a big grudge eight-man tag team match as Antonio Inoki, Shohei “Giant” Baba, The Destroyer and Jushin “Thunder” Liger joined forces to take on Bullet Club members AJ Styles, Adam Cole and the Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson). With the Bullet Club having put KRU star Harley Race out of action with an injury the stakes between the two sides couldn’t have been any higher going into this match. The Bullet Club have been running roughshod in KRU but things took a turn for the better when Inoki fought Styles to a time limit draw in an incredible bout at the Tokyo Dome (Card #1001). Inoki showed in that fight that the stars of KRU were not going to lay down for Bullet Club and the hoped to build even more momentum going into this match. The clash between Inoki and Styles early on was great culminating with Inoki planting the “Phenomenal One” with a belly to back suplex. Baba also had a strong fight against Styles until being caught with a Phenomenal DDT. The battled picked up in intensity with The Destroyer and Cole trading blows and it was the masked man winning out with an airplane spin. The Bucks looked good whenever they were in but the night belonged to Liger, the record seven-time LOW Junior Heavyweight champion. Competing in front of his hometown crowd it was the popular Liger leading his team to victory when he planted Cole with the Fisherman’s Buster and scored the pin. The crowd erupted in cheers as the KRU team picked up a pivotal victory in their war against the Bullet Club members.
