Thanks for the support, Pariah. It's been a tough road recently but I managed to finish this KRU tour so here is the final show from Yokohama, I hope you enjoy the action...
LOW Kings Road United - Yokohama Arena - Yokohama, Japan (Card #1064)
1) Giant Bernard, Dan Spivey & Michael Bennett defeated Jushin Liger, Shynron & Wani:
Trios action opened things up as Jushin “Thunder” Liger, Shynron & Wani took on Giant Bernard, “Dangerous” Dan Spivey & “The Prodigy” Mike Bennett. The latter team was accompanied by Bennett’s better half, Maria Kanellis, who as usual drew the attention of the ringside photographers. Though Team Liger was giving away a lot of size they managed to push their opponents to the limit. Shynron, for example, nearly won it by count out after nailing Spivey with a spectacular dive. He was also able to survive a couple of near falls including taking the Bernard Driver. Wani, who also survived a late near fall off of a clothesline by Spivey, nearly won it when he hit the Dragon Claw on him. The finish of a hard fought bout saw Spivey work over Wani setting up Bennett delivering the Piledriver to score the pin.
2) Don Leo Jonathan defeated Matt Riddle:
Former MMA competitor Matt Riddle, a graduate of the KRU dojo, had a tough challenge as he faced the “Mormon Giant” Don Leo Jonathan of GAW. Jonathan was in dominant form early hitting such moves as the swinging full nelson and the giant swing. The latter move resulted in a two count for Jonathan. He kept up his attack until Riddle avoided a big dropkick. Riddle followed up with an impressive bridging German Suplex and trapped Jonathan in both the triangle choke and Fujiwara armbar. It went to the outside where another German Suplex by Riddle nearly resulted in Jonathan being counted out. Riddle gave it his all but unfortunately he was unable to pull off a win. Jonathan battled back late and planted Riddle with the Mormon Swing to score the pin.
3) Sick Nick Mondo, Conor Claxton & Joey Janela defeated Masada, Matt Tremont & Greg Excellent:
The stars of CZW were in trios action on the final night of the tour as Masada, “Bulldozer” Matt Tremont & Greg Excellent took on Sick Nick Mondo, “The Wrench” Conor Claxton & “The Bad Boy” Joey Janela. Both Masada and Mondo were bandaged up from their Panes of Glass match the previous night in Sapporo but were intent on facing each other once again. They went at it from the opening bell and had a heated exchange culminating in Mondo hitting the Assault Driver for a big near fall. The action intensified from there with both teams battling on the floor narrowly avoiding a disqualification decision. Masada wound up being busted open and was the worse for wear going into the latter stages of the match. Claxton, already riding high due to his opening night upset win over Giant Bernard, nearly won it by count out for his team when he speared the bloody Masada head first into the guard rail. It ended up with Janela scoring a huge win for his team when he nailed Masada with the Moonsault Double Stomp for the pin. Masada had to be helped up by his teammates afterward but he managed to gather the energy to grab the mic and threw down a challenge to Mondo insisting that they have a third extreme style match to settle their differences. Mondo readily agreed to it and afterward KRU promoters were seen discussing bringing the two back for the next tour potentially for a match at Budokan Hall in Tokyo (Card #1094).
4) Young Bucks defeated Forever Hooligans:
The Forever Hooligans (Alex Koslov & Rocky Romero) were fired up to take on Bullet Club members the Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) in feature tag team action. Romero was injured by the Bullet Club once before and that is a fact not lost on the Hooligans. The two dominated most of the early action and did a great job of isolating Matt from his brother. Romero nearly forced Matt to tap out to the Diablo Armbar but he got to the ropes. The Hooligans then hit the Contract Killer on Matt resulting in a big near fall. The Bucks battled back and hit the Meltzer Driver on Koslov for a big near fall of their own. This was yet another match that nearly ended on a count at as Matt barely beat the twenty count back in after a diving attack by Romero. The action really picked up after that with both teams going on nice stretches of offense. The Bucks executed N’Sync on Romero for a two count and then Nick connected with a 450 Splash for another near fall. The Hooligans battled back and it was a Soviet Strike by Koslov on Matt for a big near fall. The Bucks then hit More Bang For Your Buck on Koslov but Romero made the save setting of a wild battle. It was during that confusion that Matt connected with a Superkick on Koslov to score the pin. The Bucks earned a hard fought win over their rivals and afterward they met with the press arrogantly stating that the Hooligans were the victims of a “Superkick Party”!
5) The Destroyer, Mr. Fuji & Mr. Saito defeated Adam Page, Terex & Voodoo Kaos:
The unlikely trios team of The Destroyer, Mr. Fuji & Mr. Saito took on the Bullet Club trio of the “Hangman” Adam Page, “Under Boss” Terex & Voodoo Kaos. This came as a result of the night before in Sapporo where Fuji and Saito saved The Destroyer from an attack by the BC members with Saito declaring that “We are all KRU!” in a great battle cry. This was a war from the opening bell featuring some tense exchanges between the two sides. The Destroyer won a forearm smash battle with Page at one point and followed up with an airplane spin for a two count. The BC team fought back with Terex flattening Saito with a Samoan Drop to set up Kaos hitting Thank You, Goodnight, a big boot, for a near fall. Fuji did a great job for his team hitting key moves like the suplex and the Kamikaze clothesline. The battle came to an end when Saito hit the Saito Suplex on Kaos for a big near fall. The Destroyer then tagged in and quickly trapped Kaos in the Figure Four Leglock while Fuji and Saito fended off Page and Terex. Kaos was unable to escape and he tapped out giving The Destroyer, Fuji and Saito the victory via submission. It was a huge win for the KRU team over their BC rivals.
6) Tiger Mask defeated Sabu by DQ:
A highly anticipated singles match saw Tiger Mask taking on Sabu who was accompanied by his manager Abdullah Farouk. Sabu was aggressive in the early going as he hit the Arabian Facebuster and then locked on the Camel Clutch for a submission chance. He then battered Tiger before delivering Air Sabu resulting in a two count. Tiger mounted a counter attack which including delivering the punishing Tombstone Piledriver and rolling senton splashes. They fought out to the floor where Sabu was nearly disqualified for delivering several chair shots. Farouk managed to convince the referee to call off the technical decision and Sabu took it back inside where he scored a two count with a cradle hold. Tiger was busted open during the battle outside but refused to stay down battling back against Sabu. It was during the heat of battle that Sabu made a counter and hit yet another chair assisted Arabian Facebuster. The referee had enough and called for the bell giving Tiger Mask the win by way of a disqualification. Sabu and Farouk were livid over the decision but the referee allowed it to stand. A crazed Sabu protested his loss by diving over the ropes and crashing through a table to cheers from the crowd.
7) Giant Baba & Harley Race defeated AJ Styles & Adam Cole:
KRU vs. Bullet Club tag team action saw Giant Baba & Harley Race join forces to take on BC members “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles & Adam Cole (bay-bay!). The heat was off the charts for the match which featured four of the biggest stars in this rivalry. Race and Styles had a heated exchange early on which saw Styles win out after delivering the punch, kick and clothesline combo. Cole looked to continue that advantage delivering a superkick but Race struck back and hit the Piledriver for a two count. Baba tagged in and cleaned house on Cole culminating in a 16-Mon Kick, or boot to the face, for a big near fall. That led to Baba and Race getting the heat on Cole for an extended stretch including busting open the former two-time ROH Heavyweight champion. Things were looking bad for the Bullet Club prompting Adam Page, Terex and Voodoo Kaos to head down to ringside. Baba took note of their presence as Race battled the bloody Cole in the corner. Styles protested to the referee about the actions of Race but that protest fell on deaf ears. Page and his associates attempted to interfere but were cut off from doing that as The Destroyer, Mr. Fuji and Mr. Saito helped even the odds. With a wild battle taking place all over ringside, including Baba trading blows with Styles, it was Race seizing the moment and nailing Cole with another Piledriver to score the pin. The crowd erupted in cheers as the KRU team scored the victory over the Bullet Club. Styles and Cole got into a bit of a shoving match afterward but were separated by Page, Terex and Kaos before things went too far.
8) LOW Junior Heavyweight title: Kenny Omega defeated Jerry Lynn to win the title:
A special match added to the show saw Jerry Lynn defending the LOW Junior Heavyweight title against “The Cleaner” Kenny Omega, an outspoken member of the Bullet Club. It was Omega that goaded Lynn into remaining on the tour to defend the title against him after a confrontation on the opening night in Tokyo. Omega was accompanied to the ring by the Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) and curiously the Bullet Club members were wearing t-shirts dubbing themselves “The Elite”. It seemed to mark a shift in the faction as Omega slighted group leader AJ Styles over his failure to bring the LOW World Heavyweight title to the group. That coupled with Styles and Adam Cole almost getting into a fight following the previous match made things look very shaky for at least some members of the Bullet Club.
The presence of the Bucks led to a controversial pre-match moment as with Omega distracting the referee during the introductions the brash duo laid out Lynn with a “Superkick Party!” When the referee saw what happened he immediately ejected the Bucks from ringside but the damage had already been done. Lynn struggled to get back to his feet as Omega glared at him and made handgun gesture indicating that he was done. Omega struck quickly with a power bomb followed by the One Winged Angel, a one-handed Electric Chair Driver, but Lynn kicked out at the count of two. Omega then quickly hit a second One Winged Angel but again Lynn kicked out at two frustrating the challenger. That led to Omega delivering the Kotaro Krusher, a leapfrog transitioned into a one-handed bulldog, followed by the Hadouken, a double palm thrust to the chest, to score the pin. Just like that it was all over and Omega was crowned the new LOW Junior Heavyweight champion. The Bucks ran back down to ringside to celebrate the title win for Omega as the defeated Lynn had to be helped out of the ring. Omega was beaming over his title win and backstage The Elite met with the press declaring a new age in the Bullet Club - the “Age of The Cleaner” and the “Age of The Elite”!
9) Antonio Inoki defeated The Sheik:
The popular Antonio Inoki was fired up for this one as he took on The Sheik who was accompanied by his manager Abdullah Farouk. One could hardly blame Inoki for wanting revenge following the wire choking attack by The Sheik in Sapporo. The Sheik used his brawling tactics to take control early before Inoki caught him in the cobra twist going for the submission. The Sheik refused to tap out and managed to escape the hold before again assaulting Inoki. A stab with a sharp object, looking to be a sharpened pencil, had Inoki in a bad way as Farouk looked on pleased. The tide turned late in the battle when Inoki busted The Sheik open and then trapped him in the Octopus Hold. This time it looked like The Sheik was going to tap out forcing Farouk to get involved. The manager distracted the referee prompting Inoki to let go and leading to The Sheik taking control. The Sheik trapped Inoki in the sadistic hammerlock and went back to gouging and biting the Japanese star. Inoki had to dig down deep and he did so in explosive fashion. Farouk watched helplessly as Inoki blasted the bloody Sheik with the Enzuigiri and covered him to score the pin. It was a rare pinfall loss for The Sheik and a huge win for Inoki who will no doubt look to build on the momentum of this victory.
10) LOW International Heavyweight title: Rikidozan defeated Bruiser Brody to retain the title:
The main event saw Rikidozan putting the LOW International Heavyweight title on the line against the dangerous challenge of CWA star Bruiser Brody. Brody barked and swung his chain as he made his way to ringside accompanied by the Led Zeppelin classic Immigrant Song. Rikidozan received a strong ovation from the capacity crowd as he entered the ring and stared down the very intimidating Brody. Once the bell sounded it marked the start of a very intense battle for the championship. The early action shifted back and forth as each man looked to gain control. Brody was the first to strike when he delivered a big one-hand bodyslam and a running legdrop resulting in a big near fall (Promoter’s Note: snake eyes roll but Rikidozan had his pin at “1” at the time). Rikidozan mounted a comeback quickly and battered Brody with the overhead chops driving him out of the ring. Rikidozan followed but Brody regained control driving the champion back first into the guard rail. Brody then fired him back into the ring and hit the Jumping Knee Drop but he kicked out at two. Brody followed up with another Jumping Knee Drop but this time Rikidozan powered out at one drawing a big pop from the crowd. Rikidozan began battling back again using the chops to keep Brody honest. The crowd cheered Rikidozan on as he kept Brody on the defensive and then caught him with a Piledriver to score a snake eyes pin and retain the title. It was a shocking finish and a successful version nine title defense for Rikidozan. Brody lost his cool post-match and went after Rikidozan with the chain prompting Antonio Inoki to run in to save his mentor. It was a wild scene to end the show and Inoki and Brody had to be pulled apart by KRU officials before they could come to blows.
