Thanks for the kind words Bri and Aceldamas. In a perfect world I would be rolling the dice everyday. The Eddie Gilbert takeover was so much fun to write, Aceldamas, and I had a feeling that you would enjoy how it played out. I was kind of basing it on the great Bill & Buddy show. Thanks also for noting the weather report as I couldn't resist having Eddie needle Dave Brown Well the wait is over and here is the next edition of Lucha Underground, I hope you enjoy the wild ride in The Temple...
LOW Lucha Underground - The Temple - Boyle Heights - Los Angeles, CA (Card #1142)
Announcers: Matt Striker & Ultramantis Black
Vignette:
Lucha Underground Boss Sly Drury sat silently in his office stroking the mysterious Eye of Tyr, a powerful pendant supplied to him by his right-hand man Ultramantis Black. He stared at the myriad items displayed around the room some of which appeared to be not of this earth. Whatever power Drury has gained obviously comes from another dimension and, with the way that Mil Muertes and Catrina covet it, he has not doubted the additional power that he possesses with the Eye of Tyr. He began thinking about the action to come on this night when Hallowicked, flanked by Frightmare and Tursas, entered his office. Drury was pleased to see them and said that their presence had given him thought to dispose of his now former Crew (Bateman, Che Cabrera & Sasha Darevko) but that could come at another time for tonight it was all about Hallowicked and the ultimate prize – the LOW World Heavyweight title held by “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles. Drury said that after tonight when history is made all will bow down to the “Nightmare Warrior” Hallowicked and the power of the Eye of Tyr.
Quick Results:
1) Triple Threat Elimination Match: “Latina Sensation” Mercedes Martinez defeated Son of Havoc and El Generico
Order of Elimination:
* Son of Havoc pinned El Generico – Death From Above
* Mercedes Martinez pinned Son of Havoc – Fisherman Buster
2) Samuray Del Sol defeated Jeremiah Crane
(Pinfall – Snake Eyes - Rising Sun, a springboard reverse Frankensteiner)
3) Delirious & Jeremiah Crane defeated Samuray Del Sol & Lio Rush
(Crane over Rush by submission, Stretch Muffler)
4) Dalton Castle & Saturyne defeated Mariposa & Marty “The Moth” Martinez
(Castle pinned Martinez – Snake Eyes – Spin-Out Facebuster)
5) Moose defeated “The Machine” Brian Cage
(Pinfall – Spear)
* Sasha Darevko was knocked out on the floor of the cell he was being held in, the cell meant to contain the monster, Matanza. As he started to regain consciousness he heard a creepy sound followed by the cell door being ripped open to reveal Matanza. Only moments away from his match with Mil Muertes, Matanza was looking to feast on another victim and Darevko was it. Just as Matanza reached down to grab Darevko he was hit from behind by a lead pipe yielded by Che Cabrera. Bateman appeared and dragged Darevko out of the cell as Cabrera struck Matanza with the lead pipe again. Bateman managed to clear Darevko out of the area and Cabrera quickly followed slamming the cell door as Matanza let out a monstrous roar. The Crew quickly escaped through a side door and out of The Temple managing to live to fight another day. Matanza, having recovered from the attack, ripped the door off the cell and bashed his way through a side wall heading to the ring to await Muertes and Catrina…
6) Mil Muertes (with Catrina) defeated Matanza
(Pinfall – Flatliner)
7) Mil Mascaras & Jerry Lynn defeated Prince Puma & Rob Van Dam by DQ
8) LOW World Heavyweight title: Hallowicked defeated “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles© by DQ
Match Highlights:
The pre-show predictions of Lucha Underground Boss Sly Drury came ever so close to coming true as the “Nightmare Warrior”, Hallowicked, appeared on the verge of defeating “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles for the LOW World Heavyweight title. Drury observed the match through the blinds of his office window as the two men waged an incredible battle. The match was filled with a ton of near falls, Styles being busted open and both men surviving their opponents’ respective finishers late in the bout, the Never Wake Up from Hallowicked and the Styles Clash from Styles. There was also a ref bump late before Hallowicked hit the Yakuza Kick for what looked to be a sure pin. The only problem was that Matanza stormed the ring and attacked the challenger with reckless abandon. The bloody Styles managed to crawl out of the ring to safety as Matanza continued to attack Hallowicked. Frightmare, Tursas and even announcer Ultramantis Black ran to ringside and managed to pull Hallowicked out of the ring. Drury shut his blinds in anger as Hallowicked was announced the winner by disqualification. Matanza jumped out to ringside and gave chase briefly but the four escaped to back of The Temple.
The apparent control that Drury thought he had over Matanza was exposed on this night. After Matanza destroyed his cell following his altercation with former Crew members Bateman, Che Cabrera and Sasha Darevko, there was no controlling “The Monster” as Drury failed to get him back under lock and key. Matanza lost his pivotal match against another monster, Mil Muertes, after Bateman, Cabrera and Darevko returned to distract him. Muertes then hit the Flatliner for the pin and left ringside along with Catrina as Matanza chased after the former Crew. They escaped him once again as Drury cut off the path of Matanza and ordered him to return to his cell. Matanza refused and tossed Drury against the ring apron before disappearing from ringside leaving his whereabouts unknown until he interfered in the main event. Drury was already upset with “The Monster” but after what happened in Hallowicked vs. Styles match his blood was boiling. Drury sent out word to the press after the show that next time at The Temple (Card #1154) it will be Matanza facing Hallowicked and Bateman in a Triple Threat Match.
In one of the most amazing matches in the brief history of Lucha Underground under LOW, Prince Puma & Rob Van Dam took on Mil Mascaras & Jerry Lynn in the semi-final match. Drury booked this match simply because he wanted to see the four popular stars fight each other but he threw in another one of his surprise stipulations in that the loser of the fall would receive a “special prize”. The four men had one heck of a match that included tons of near falls and all four hitting their key finishing moves at various points of the match. The unfortunate finish saw RVD catch Lynn with the Van Terminator which resulted in the referee calling for a disqualification, a decision that brought jeers from the crowd. Once things settled down those jeers turned to cheers as the crowd gave the four men a well-deserved standing ovation for their efforts. Drury decided he had seen enough and emerged from his office to inform RVD, the technical loser of the match, that his “special prize”, or opportunity, would be a one-on-one match with Mil Muertes the next time at The Temple. Muertes and Catrina then appeared at the top of the stairs staring down RVD who simply shrugged and pointed at himself drawing shouts of “Rob Van Dam” from the crowd.
It is no secret that Drury loves needling his perceived enemies and the opening match was proof of that as he forced the popular trio of El Generico, Son of Havoc and the “Latina Sensation” Mercedes Martinez to face each other in a Triple Threat Elimination Match. What started out as a tense situation saw Martinez persevere and beat both of her male counterparts drawing cheers from the crowd. Havoc initially eliminated Generico and seemed hesitant to take on Martinez one-on-one but the two went on to have a thrilling battle before she eliminated him to get the win. Generico returned and along with Havoc congratulated her but Drury couldn’t leave well enough alone as he emerged from his office. He said it was a “pleasure” to see the three allies forced to compete against each other and then said that if Lucha Underground had a women’s division maybe Havoc and Generico would qualify for it. The two went after Drury but he sicked Frightmare & Tursas on them setting off a wild brawl, the result being that those four will meet in a tag match next time at The Temple…Moose scored a tremendous win over “The Machine” Brian Cage, battling back from a serious offensive before hitting the Spear for the pin. Manager Caesar B. Black, who has been trying to recruit Moose, tried to raise his arm and offer him a business card but Moose speared him instead. Black later vowed that he would hire someone to take care of Moose…The in-ring debut of Mariposa saw her team with her brother Marty “The Moth” Martinez in a losing effort against Dalton Castle & Saturyne. Mariposa was extremely impressive especially using her apparent psychological control over Saturyne to dominate her. Castle saved Saturyne from being pinned by a Kudoh Driver and would go on to win the match by pinning “The Moth” with a spin-out facebuster. The fighting continued post-match and these two teams will meet again on the next show…and, Samuray Del Sol defeated Jeremiah Crane in a great singles bout that led to an impromptu tag team match. Delirious, who has been making life miserable for Del Sol, jumped him post-match until Lio Rush made the save. Rush was supposed to face Delirious one-on-one in the next bout but instead Drury ordered the four to compete in a tag match. Crane got a measure of revenge by winning the tag match for him and Delirious when he forced Rush to tap out to a Stretch Muffler.
