Another quick thought is that many of these wrestlers (Wolf, Mutant, etc.) are using the same card for years. The cards themselves get a little ratty over time (at least when I was rolling dice). So, a new fresh card is a blessing. Graymar That's why you laminate them like I did. Invincible to spills and the cards no longer get torn up. I wish I had discovered laminating before I spilled a coke on the table and my Serpent Unman, Commissioner Carter and Omega 2092 were the unfortunate victims. While it would get rather expensive if you did it at once...if you did it a few at a time, it's not that bad.

I actually bought a laminator for about $60 and got the rolls for about $30. If you're careful you can laminate cards at a time. Then you cut them out and trim them with an xacto knife. You'll need several sets of blades for it but those are cheap. I'd say I did all my cards for less than $200. The time I put in was a lot at first but now it's easy to keep up with. The new set comes in the mail. I look at them and then run all of them through and cut them out in around 45 minutes.
It was pricey but worth every penny, especially the first time I spilled coke all over the cards and wiped it right off.

For example, the Pegasus upgrade was a pretty important 'game moment' as he became 'arguably' (at the very least he was top 3) the best wrestler in the biz at that time and his 'face turn' really made him a cool character for me. However, his original card art was so awful and ridiculous that it was almost physically painful to look at. The SE art didn't make any stat changes (I think) but the new art was decent (not great, but pretty good). IMO, the new card was 'necessary'. That's probably the most extreme example I can recall, but there are many similar cases. I totally agree. For being the top face, Pegasus really looked goofy in his 2101 card. His 2102 SE was a bit better, but still lacked something.... I really liked the art that came later, like in 2112? I think it was. His stats were downgraded, but the art I felt was the best effort for his character overall. Still, even with the downgraded stats, he wasn't that bad. Still could win a match here and there without being a pushover in his older age! I still liked his art for 2095 (Snelly) the best. The Su version just didn't seemed finished. Plus, he really didn't look like Pegaus...I remember thumbing thru them when I got the package and would have had no idea it was Pegasus if I didn't see the name. But that was one thing about Su. He had his hits and misses, but seemed like whenever he re-drew an existing character, they looked nothing like the original versions (and I can give an artist some creative freedom, but some of his....Nora Pelf? Switchblade!?!?)

I really should start laminating my cards too. Last Fall I had to put my LOW fed temporarily on hold after I accidentally spilled Budweiser & Clamato on Larry Hennig, Dan Severn, Bob Orton Sr, and one other card.
But Tournament Master and Tom were really cool and let me replace all those cards individually at just $2/each instead of having to repurchase entire sets.
From now on, if I am drinking anything, even water, while playing COTG or LOW, I always place it on the floor instead of on top of the card table.

Yeah, Nora Pelf, when i saw her i thought she was Sonora's daughter. She went from a 40 something woman in 2101, to 20 years old in 2109

2102 Pegasus is a must IMO! Any one remember that hideous pic on original? Probably the worst art EVER, worse than Beast Rider.

I don't think you mean is original card...I think that was a very cool drawing by Larry...but i think Larry's drawings were cool. His updated card with Project Pegasus where he is pointing the "gun finger" and looks like he should be "winking" at you...that is the one that was not the best. And his final "downgrade" was a great "attitude" drawing...perfect for the character at that time.

Although he did look a bit 'girly' in that Snelly pic.
