I just finished my Deimos Perennial, and since it was such a fun card, I felt compelled to type it out. Be warned, it is a bit long so be prepared for a read.
GWF DEIMOS PERENNIAL, FEBRUARY 2117
Deimos Civic Center
AETHRAN ULTIMATE ESCAPE: VALOUR AND THE 2ND REALM VS. NIGHTMARE AND THE 4TH REALM
SETUP: These two teams have been slugging it out for about a year and a half, but haven't really gone anywhere in the fed. This is just another chapter in their fued, which has been split about 50-50 so far.
THE MATCH: No surprises, but this match came down to the wire as each team showcased their best. The end saw Darkseed escape from the cage after hitting Valour with a wicked backbreaker.
SNIPER VS. THRASH
SETUP: This match was originally scheduled to be Sniper vs. Shann-Ra for Ra's women's title. However, a vicious attack from She-Devil and some others from the Greatest Show shelved Ra and forced her to vacate her title (champs must be able to defend once a month or they vacate their titles). Thrash decided to step in for her team partner, and was very vocal about the fact that she was here to get closer to the title.
THE MATCH: Thrash battered Sniper and never took a back step. Sniper's offense was barely token and Thrash ended the whole, sad affair with the FEMME FATAL.
ANIMEN HORDE VS THE TROUBLESHOOTERS
SETUP: This match was a last minute addition to the card and came about when the Horde was able to surprise the Main Event (the current tag champions) in a non-title contest. The Troubleshooters, looking to regain some lost momentum after getting pummeled by the Gladiators, challenged the Horde at the Perennial. Vanity and Dragonmaster (the show's commentator team) were really hyping the fact that this fight had definite title implications.
THE MATCH: Both teams looked good and this match became a showcase of tag team work with lots of tags, double team moves, and the like. However, the Shooters have much more experience as a team and were able to edge out the Horde after Muss used MUSS EM UP on Antak.
POST-MATCH: After the match Muss grabbed the mic and cut the following promo: Muss--"So, let me get this straight; these little bugs beat the champs, and we just squashed the bugs. By my book, that makes us the best. Now, Gladiators, Main Event...we don't give a d*** which of you walk with the titles tonight, but we're next. "
COSMIC CAGE MATCH--HEAVY METAL TITLE: STEELE FREAK (C) VS. DISASTER
SETUP: The Gladiators had been treading water for quite some time, busting heads and winning matches but not really threatening any titles. Not until Vin Strutter came in and opened his big mouth. Strutter's team has already made impressive in-roads to a few titles, but he's aroused the ire of the Aethrans to do it. This match was one of three encounters of the Gladiators vs. the Greatest Show on the Perennial card, and this fued has been one of the hottest in my fed in quite some time. With this match, Strutter issued an open challenge to any Gladiator who would be willing to face Steele Freak in his match, for his Heavy Metal title. Initially there was no response (unless you count the massacre of a match that occurred when Crush answered the challenge), until Disaster decided to blindside Freak and hit him with a RAMPAGE after one of his matches.
THE MATCH: This match was as brutal as expected, but the brutality was fairly one-sided. Disaster just abused Steele Freak for the majority of the match. Freak definitely hit some shots, and when he did they hurt, but Disaster always recovered and continued the pain on Steele. However, towards the end of the match Vanity noted, "Why doesn't Disaster just hit his Rampage and be done with this?" For whatever reason, Disaster would not put Steele Freak away, and he just piled the abuse on him. This opening, unfortunately for Disaster, was all the animalistic Steele Freak needed as he caught Disaster with some FRENZIED HEAD SLAMS into the cage and was able to pick up the win.
POST-MATCH: Before Freak's handlers could return him to his (it's?) cage, Thunder came down to the ringside area. He and Disaster then proceeded to kick the snot out of Steele Freak. Even Dragonmaster, who definitely had no love for the Greatest Show, blurted out, "There's a human being trapped in that animal...leave him alone!" After the beating, Thunder grabbed a mic and got right into Steele Freak's bloodied face: Thunder--"Do you really think we'd just let you take out one of ours and not retaliate? You're not dealing with some lesser race, we're Aethrans! And if it's war you want, then pray to all the deities you hold dear, because we'll give you all you can take and more!"
AEGIS VS. MURDOK
SETUP: This match had gotten alot of hype. Not only was this an absolute blood fued that'd been brewing for years, and across two dimensions, but this was Aegis' first official match since returning from his self-imposed banishment. Both men were looking to pick up the win here, in the hopes of establishing early dominance in this very personal feud.
THE MATCH: Aegis definitely looked fit and confident in this match, however the ring rust showed and ended up costing him the win. Murdok controlled the match from bell to bell, and nothing Aegis did really took it out of the mad dictator's hands. Murdok eventually picked up the win with a devastating fallaway slam.
POST-MATCH: After the bell, both the Ramparts and Murdok's Galaxy came down to the ring and all involved had a huge pull-apart brawl, which took the entire team of officials on hand to separate. Aegis could be heard screaming at Murdok, "This isn't over! You took her, but I'm going to find her! THIS ISN'T OVER!"
BARBED WIRE CAGE: THUNDER VS. VYPER
SETUP: Yet another chapter in the Gladiators vs. Greatest Show feud. Both men are looking to score some gold, and each are willing to tear apart the other to do it. This being a cornerstone feud between the Gladiators/Greatest Show war also lends some extra incentive for each man to pick up a win.
THE MATCH: While both men definitely have some superior wrestling skills, that's not what this contest was about. Thunder and Vyper tore into each other with "all the fury of two bull elephants" (to quote Dragonmaster). It didn't take long before the blood began to flow, but neither man backed down and they both actually began to step it up even more. The battle rose to a fever pitch as each man continued to pull out big moves which were absorbed by the other. The end came when Vyper was able to wrap up Thunder in a strand of barbed wire and choke him out with it, and to put the exclamation point on it, he layed the Aethran flat with VYPER'S SIDESHOW.
POST-MATCH: Strutter paraded around the backstage interview area relaying the superior virtues of the Greatest Show, in general, and Vyper, in particular. The interviewer on hand asked Vyper how he felt about the win. Vyper's response: "Thunder, you came out and you ran your mouth and you said all this crap about how you were the best and how there's gold in your future and yadda yadda yadda. WELL NOT TONIGHT, BIG BOY! Tonight was my night, and I swear to all of you champions in this federation, and you better listen, I am gunning for each and every one of you. Be afraid...you never know when Vyper will strike!"
INTERGALACTIC TITLE: NEFARUS (C) VS. MANDRILL
SETUP: This match was originially scheduled to be Max Shield vs. Mandrill for the IG strap. However, Nefarus upset those plans with one quick SCISSORDRIVER. Besides the continuing war between Nefarus and Mandrill over who's the more dominant leader, there's been some added intrigue in this match. Some masked assailant has been attacking Mandrill since the beginning of 2117. And from notes that have been left in Mandrill's dressing room, tonight is the night when the mask comes off and Mandrill will learn who this masked nemesis is.
THE MATCH: Each man wanted to prove their dominance, but starting out they were both willing to start slowly and size each other up. That strategy ended, when both men rolled outside after a side headlock takedown by Nefarus and then Mandrill rocked his opponent by slamming him on top of the guard rail between the fans and the ring. After that it was impact move after impact move. The end came very surprisingly when Nefarus hit a nasty missile dropkick and was able to pick up the win. BUT...the replay showed that Mandrill's legs were under the ropes and were being held down by the masked wrestler. The referee failed to see this and counted the 3.
POST-MATCH: As soon as the bell tolled, the masked wrestler jumped into the ring and layed into Mandrill with rights and lefts. He then pulled out a stun whip, wrapped it around Mandrill's throat and then hung him using the top rope as a fulcrum. Nefarus just stood back and laughed as this went on. Finally, the masked man let go and Mandrill's body collapsed onto the floor in a heap. The man stood over Mandrill, to be sure that he saw him, removed the mask and revealed himself to be...PAINMASTER!
TAG TEAM TITLES: THE MAIN EVENT (C) VS. THE GLADIATORS
SETUP: This match represented round 3 of the Greatest Show vs. Gladiator feud on this card. Even though Strutter's team had won two of those matches, this was the biggest of the night. And if the Gladiators went down here, then they might as well cede the entire feud to the Greatest Show.
THE MATCH: Rack and Ruin came with their power game, and they brought it with a ferocity that hadn't been seen from them ever (Vanity--"Strutter's really got these guys pumped up. If this is what he does to his charges, then he's gonna be a force in this federation for some time."). However, rather than just slugging it out, the Gladiators came in with a game plan. Malice's job was to outmove the behemoths and get them worn out (an easy task against Ruin) so that Overkill's power would be even more devastating. Try as they might, neither Rack nor Ruin could pin down Malice and they always eventually ran into the wall that was Overkill. The end came when Malice hit a beautiful FIELDS OF MALICE on Rack, which was doubly painful as it came after an AETHRAN SUPREMACY which Ruin saved Rack from.
POST-MATCH: As the Gladiators crossed the curtain into the backstage area they were greeted with the sight of the Troubleshooters. Officials ran in to prevent the backstage area from being torn apart. Bomb stepped forward and looked Overkill in the eye, Bomb--"Whaddya say?"
Overkill--"Let's do it!"
The Shooters then walked away and let the Gladiators be...for tonight.
GWF GALACTIC TITLE: GODSEND (C) VS. ATMAN
SETUP: Vallah was billing this match as a test for Atman's ascension. Godsend's laughing response was simply, "Atman...you don't even know what Vallah means. So while you go about preparing for some metaphysical test, I'm preparing for a title defense." Although Atman was not considered a Galactic title contender at first, some key wins at the beginning of the year put him on the fast track.
THE MATCH: Godsend totally dominated this contest. Atman didn't fall for any of Godsend's mental games, but he still seemed unmotivated: Dragonmaster--"He looks like he's participating in a training session that he doesn't want to do, not a match for the Galactic title." Godsend eventually picked up the win with a Dextral Choke, and as Atman faded Godsend was heard saying, "You're not even worth feeling the REALM ETERNAL!"
POST-MATCH: In the backstage area, Atman was seen toweling the sweat off of himself. Interviewer--"Atman, Atman! What happened out there?"
Atman--"I saw another destiny."
Interviewer--"Huh?"
Atman--"Tonight was not my night to defeat Godsend. There is another that Fate has christened as champion against this dark avatar. However, Godsend and I will meet again, and our destinies will be truly determined then."
THE MAIN EVENT
2 OUT OF 3 FALLS: ENDGAME VS. WOLF
SETUP: Wolf made no secret that he wanted to go out with a bang. So, when he announced his imminent retirement he also issued a challenge to one of the most hyped wrestlers in the entire galaxy, Endgame. A week later, Championship Inc (the company created to handle the training and booking of Endgame) sent a message to the GWF headquarters that Endgame accepted Wolf's challenge for a 2 out of 3 falls match. The stage was set, and the GWF hyped the match by showing approved vidclips of matches of Endgame against wrestlers throughout the galaxy.
THE MATCH: The crowd was eager to see this match-up of Living Legend vs. Legend-in-the-Making, and neither man dissappointed. Endgame brought his technical prowess and Wolf brought his devil-may-care impact style, and both men showed their vast repertoires as Endgame was as willing to brawl with Wolf as Wolf was to engage in a mat wrestling clinic with Endgame. During the first fall, Endgame pulled away from the back and forth exchange early and was able to lock Wolf in a ROLLING FIGURE FOUR in the center of the ring. The Animan had no choice but to tap and conceed the first fall to Endgame. After a brief rest period, the two went at it again but there was no slow boil like began the first fall, the two came at each other with everything and began the physical equivalent of an "Oh yeah!" "Yeah!" argument. For every big move hit, the other had an answer. Endgame looked to start to pull away again in the second fall, and both Dragonmaster and Vanity began to relate how much they had enjoyed having Wolf in a GWF ring, when Wolf locked on his SAVAGE FACE CLAW and scored the second fall. Every fan in attendance at the Deimos Civic Center were brought to their feet at the beginning of the 3rd fall, and a variety of chants for both men were heard throughout the arena. After feeling about everything the other had, the two combatants were content to slow it down and deliver a more methodical contest (Dragonmaster--"Not only are they both tired, but neither wants to make a critical mistake in this deciding fall."). This time Wolf began to pull away and score impact move after impact move on Endgame. But the Super-Galactic Champion (as Endgame is sometimes referred), weathered the storm and began to score his own big hits. The end came in thrilling fashion: Endgame was able to get enough distance to be able to scale the turnbuckle and come off with the ULTIMA LEAP. The fans went wild as they believed this was the end, but the roof got blown off the Civic Center when Wolf caught Endgame in the SAVAGE FACE CLAW as he was coming down. Endgame did everything he could to break the hold, striking at Wolf's wrists, nailing him with side kicks, and just simply trying to pry Wolf's paw from his head. Nothing worked, and even as Endgame began to fade he still worked to escape. In the middle of the ring, both men were on their knees; Wolf holding onto his CLAW and Endgame trying to escape. Endgame finally faded, the ref raised Endgame's arm three times and watched it fall three times. The bell was called and Wolf had done the impossible...he had beaten Endgame.
POST-MATCH: The ring filled up with wrestlers from the GWF's past and present who came to pay respects to Wolf on his final night. As Star Warrior, Thantos, and Brute raised Wolf and Amazonia on their shoulders. Both the Animan and his Amazonian Maiden let loose with the loudest Wolf howl ever heard. The crowd responded in kind.
In a post-match press conference a representative from Championship Inc read this prepared statement--"Endgame, and all of us here at Championship Inc, wish to congratulate Wolf on not only a highly successful career, but also his victory tonight. Endgame wishes it to be known that if the level of competition is this good at the Galactic Wrestling Federation, then he will definitely be making more appearances inside a GWF ring. Thank you all....no questions at this time."
Hope you enjoyed the show. Feel free to comment, and if I get enough good press I may post some other results in the future.
