The one thing that I think everyone can agree upon - the more new official cards that come out the better! The more characters for all the different editions is always the best part. I would LOVE to see more early classics. Those are some of my all-time favorites and I would love to see even more. Sorry to go off topic, but I felt it needed to be said. Somehow, I missed this when it was posted. Thanks for the compliment, Jason. Werner and I worked hard on EC, since we wanted to hold up against the high standards of the other Classics sets. It means a lot to hear that people appreciated that work.

This was a hard one to answer, because I really appreciate art. When I was a kid, I wanted to be a cartoonist to the point of writing and submitting my doodles to Charles Schultz and Mel Blanc (who wrote me back a very nice letter when I was seven!). As I grew, I learned that my hands are more suited for music than art. Still, anyone who can draw gets mad props from me.
That said, I am a stats guy. I'm sure there is a left brain-right brain thing about this, but I am more concerned with a card being well put together than how the artwork appears. For me, a better working card will sell me more than the art. That said, some artwork has turned me off of a character.
Case in point - the second drawing of Monolith. I think it is the worst drawn card since Mayhem SE-2100. Actually, you know what? I'll put it on the table - Monolith 2123 was the worst card ever as far as art.
Why? Because the first drawing was very original in it's presentation, and the image of it was downright iconic. It looked like it belonged in George Orwell's "1984", and had a feel to it that simply mesmerized me. The second drawing looked awkward in composition, had terrible proportions, and took a lot of mystique away from the character for me. Again, I am not knocking the artist, because every artist to ever draw a Filsinger Games product can smoke me in the art department. But I will criticize the drawing, and stand by my opinion that I do not care for it at all.
But in the end, that ugly card has the best stats in the GWF currently, and in game play, stats matter more. Monolith could become the single most dominant competitor of his decade, and will enter the levels of Omega, Thantos and Chaos when it comes to having a strong career.

I gotta go with artwork. For example, I love the art for Executioner & Death Knight. I find I push these guys more than ones with bad art. Think Sectarian, bad art no push.

I find it easier to give a particular talent a push if the artwork is good...

Any booker needs to have a backstory for the fans to enjoy
