Really ?
So if your clean , your looking for working ?
Fail ? Looking for drugs and not work ?
I once went for a job . Had a maths test , then had to have a drug test . Passed them both .

As someone who has recently started to get unemployment (Company I worked for cut out the position I held. About 500 people lost their jobs country wide) I always wonder why people are always quick to demand drug tests for unemployed people. So let me get this straight. A company gets into dire straights, eliminates my position on January 27th, lets me work through the month, pays out a severance but will not allow me to come back to work (Company has a strict no re-hire policy) and that leads me to unemployment which was already approved by my job and which I started collecting on March 1st. Now because of this company needing to free up that salary room, I should be subject to drug tests because I am unemployed and need to get off facebook and stop mooching off others? i was never for drug tests for unemployed before I became one and I won't ever be. Are there people cheating the system out there sure. Are there people who have full time jobs incorrectly filling out time sheets and getting paid for work they aren't doing? Yes because it has happened at the job I worked at. Even I would take an extra day off if business was slow and still make my salary. Should I have, no but I did and so did all other management in my company and others like it.
I comply with all the state laws for unemployment (Actively looking for work. Put my resume/contact employers atleast twice a week. Keep an online log of this on my states website so they can confirm as well as keep a written record because I could randomly be chosen for a visit to make sure I am doing this) I also have to keep written record of all phone conversations I have with any business while applying for a job including names of individuals I have talked to, date and time I called, what was discussed and how long the call was. I bust my butt looking for work and making phone calls and sending in resumes all week and I deserve the unemployment I get. I am 27 and I had worked from age 14 until Feb 1st this year. I have put money into the system and worked over half my life. I have paid my taxes every year and never cheated the IRS.
Step into the shoes of someone who has lost a job due to a company cut and then tell me I need to do more than is regulated of me.

What does Facebook have to do with drug testing? I know very few people who are unemployeed and on it since you generally have to pay to get online.

I'm sure there are lots of people legitimately receiving benefits, Holland, but that still doesn't mean that we (the taxpayers) should be paying for someone to be at home smoking weed, eating Funyons, and watching the View. That said, the cost involved in administering such a program would make the program pointless.

I understand there are people abusing the system, I get that. I just hate when people are like "Yeah unemployed people need drug tested to get money. They will just use it for booze and drugs" It is discouraging

I do agree with the approval of drug testing for people living off of welfare, however. Those living off of government assistance need to understand that their paycheck comes from my paycheck and I have to pass a drug test to keep my job that pays for their welfare.
Drawing unemployment benefits that one has earned ... I can see your position.

They will just use it for booze and drugs" It is discouraging If you aren't one of the ones that this would affect, I Don't understand why you would be discouraged. If you do things the right way, you get the benefits. If not, you don't. Simple as that.

Pychoholic Sickness I understand your statement and respect it. What I am saying is that it is discouraging to be grouped into that small percentage.

What does Facebook have to do with drug testing? filsingergames.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=currentevents&action=display&thread=10367Ties into the recent story about employers beginning to require prospective employees to hand over their FB account password. Like it or not, as times change (social media invasion) as do the way things need to be policed. FB is the no.1 money loser for big business simply due to the fact that lost time is lost money, and FB is the top distractor in the work place. Many people have zero restraint when it comes to social media. This is business owners way of battling this ongoing issue. I'm sure there are lots of people legitimately receiving benefits, Holland, but that still doesn't mean that we (the taxpayers) should be paying for someone to be at home smoking weed, eating Funyons, and watching the View. That said, the cost involved in administering such a program would make the program pointless. As I understand it, the program is designed similar to any investment. X amount of dollars is put into the project (drug testing those on welfare and/or looking for work) designed to catch/punish/eliminate Y aka the very worst and repeat offenders with the end result being Z aka the availability for perpetual costs to keep the program running in the future thanks to eliminating costs spent on continuing support for the ones caught failing the testing. I'd rather have my tax dollars go to something like this with boom or bust potential vs. keep handing over to drunks and druggies with no intentions of ever finding work. Pychoholic Sickness I understand your statement and respect it. What I am saying is that it is discouraging to be grouped into that small percentage. It's not a small %. That's the problem. And if you don't do drugs then you also have nothing to worry about. And if you do that's fine too, maybe just quit until you land a new gig and make it past the first 90 days or so. Or at least drink a bejesus ton of water if you're really worried about. But don't be offended by it. Bad apples have been ruining the fun for others since the dawn of time. Like Sickman said, if you remarks don't resemble you then you have nothing to worry about.
