Since I am home now from my SoCal wrestling weekend road trip, I wanted to post a longer review/recap.
Even by PWG's standards- what an amazing show! IMO, this honestly deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as Steen Wolf!
When I got to the Legion Hall, one of the first things I noticed was a woman who looked alot like Maria Kanellis. My first thought was that is was just someone who looks alot like her since guest wrestlers (like Nigel McGuinness the past few shows) are often in the back at PWG instead of standing in line/sitting with the fans. But that was actually indeed Maria herself as she later got a "Maria! Maria! Maria!" chant at one point from the crowd while walking back to her seat (abut 4 rows back from the ring) which caused her to wave to the fans and blow them a kiss. Maria is really nice, I didn't talk to her last night but I did talk to her briefly in April in Chicago at the ROH meet and greet session.
There were two new chicks working the bar. They didn't even know some of the prices (for example I bought one cup of Bud Light and they had to go ask Legion Larry how much it cost.) This caused the beer line to move slowly and I think contributed to the show starting late because it is hard to begin the show when the line from the bar circles around the ring itself.
They ran out of pitchers before the show started and (as the crowd chanted "get more pitchers, get more pitchers, get more pitchers") some of the staff went into the crowd to get empty pitchers from fans so they could serve the customers standing in line. Some of the crowd though did not want to give up their empty pitchers (you would have thought they were protecting their first born
.) The guy behind me drank so much he actually regurgitated his beer back into his cup- and then proceeded to puke in his seat for the entire 2nd half of the show.
More on him later.
Threemendous III was PWG's 9th anniversary show and Joey Ryan (who said the Legion Hall was "packed tighter than all the women here") started off by saying he has been "banging PWG bartender chicks for 9 years and tonight there is some fresh meat" (meaning the two new PWG bartender chicks.)
Ryan won his opening match against Famous B. Although both their backs were turned toward me when the finish occurred, I believe Ryan (the Hollywood Submission Machine) won via his 'Nuff Said move.
In the second match, Roderick Strong defeated TJ Perkins in a really good match which was also a rematch from the first Threemendous 6 years ago.
In the next match, the RockNES Monsters defeated Chuck Taylor (making his first PWG appearance since Steen Wolf 9 months ago) and Ryan Taylor.
Brian Cage defeated Eddie Edwards. Cage continues to get better and better. Afterward, Cage said he is coming after whoever wins tonight's PWG World Championship match between Kevin Steen and Willie Mack.
Steen retained over Mack. I admit I thought Mack was winning the title tonight (especially when he did this phenomenal moonsault upon Steen,) but I got a little suspicious when this match was only 5th (yet you really can't tell as sometimes the biggest matches are held early- such as the Young Bucks vs Super Smash Brothers for the vacant PWG World Tag Team Championship back in May- for things such as flight related reasons.) At one point the action was outside of the ring where Mack sat on my front row seat (thankfully I got out of the way in time) where Steen proceeded to punch him. Afterward my seat felt a lot weaker due to Willie Mack sitting on it- but it did not break . During the match, Cage attacked both Steen and Mack apparently to set something up later on.
Intermission. As Intermission was starting, Excalibur passed me on his way to the back and said hi to me and tapped me on the shoulder which was really cool since I am a big Excalibur fan and I have not talked to him for awhile. Outside (they had to move the merchandise table outside the Legion Hall due to the crowd size) I bought a Legalize Sleaze shirt from Joey Ryan himself.
B-Boy defeated Drake Younger (making his PWG debut.) A great match (perhaps the 2nd best match of the night) between these two who have a previous history with each other in CZW. As I mentioned earlier, I got to meet Drake Younger (who got cut open badly in this match) for my first time after the show and he signed my copy of his card. It looks like Younger is becoming a regular in PWG too as he is scheduled for the next show (BOLA 2012) and has reportedly moved out West.
Michael Elgin defeated Sami Callihan. Some dumbass in the crowd actually chanted things like "end this" and "boring"
- but it was a good match as expected. Elgin is one of the possibilities I could see winning BOLA on September 1st.
The main event of PWG World Tag Team Champions Super Smash Brothers vs Young Bucks vs Future Shock was arguably the most amazing match I have ever seen at PWG! It was an insane combination of the PWG World Champion Kevin Steen vs El Generico ladder match from Steen Wolf mixed with the Young Bucks vs Cutlers vs El Generico and Paul London guerrilla warfare match from Seven! A 3 way tag ladder match with no guardrails separating the fans from the action!
Everybody (except the drunk guy sitting and puking behind me) were on their feet and standing. The match started off with alot of rope action and the wrestlers having to dodge a huge number of thrown streamers and then the action spilled out into the crowd in 3 different areas. It looked to me like a ladder grazed at least one fan at least once. One fan threw his seat into the ring which was used for a chair shot to the head on a wrestler.
Nick Jackson got cut open badly from a ladder shot and was lying in the turnbuckle corner right in front of me. So I had Nick Jackson bleeding profusively in front of me and this drunk guy puking repeatedly behind me (but thankfully neither pathogen hit me) and spilled beer from the fans all over the floor below me. ;D
The Bucks are feuding with referee Rick Knox and at one point they hit him with a ladder and caused him to bleed badly from his forehead.
The match ended with the Bucks climbing up both sides of a ladder. Stupefied launched himself from the top turnbuckle only to be met high in mid air from a superkick from one of the Bucks on the ladder (that was awesome!) But right before the Bucks grabbed the titles hanging from the ceiling vent, an angry and bleeding referee Rick Knox tipped the ladder over sending both Bucks flying into the crowd! Knox then surprised me by running the ropes and doing a somersault plancha over the top rope and giving the Bucks a double clothesline! SSB's Player Uno then climbed the ladder to grab the belts and retain for him and Stupefied.
You guys REALLY need to see this match! There were also multiple table incidents in this match and at one point the ring mallet was used too (not good as reportedly one drunk grabbed that mallet and took it home with him as PWG after the show made an announcement that they needed their mallet back to dismantle the ring.)
After the departing crowd shouted "9 more years! 9 more years! 9 more years!," I left PWG on Saturday night filled with adrenaline knowing I saw something truly special with that 3 way tag ladder match and all the other great matches form the night. Quite possibly the show of 2012 for PWG!
