Pretty big news. I'm interested in seeing how WWE gets away with this without firing him. If Daniel Bryan can be fired for fake assaulting another fake actor, and AW can be fired for an 8 year joke, then surely CM Punk can be fired for attacking an innocent fan in real life, right? Regardless of what provoked him (another fan it seems) there is no excuse for going full retard and snapping like that. Oh, and there's that little Linda McMahon thing going on so...

There's more to see in this video. The fan drops his hand down on Punk's head and that's what provokes Punk to attack.
Found a 15 second clip of it...
Justified or not, clearly he hit exactly the fan he intended to, not the wrong one.

If it's brought up next week, it's a work. If it and Punk are buried, it's real.
I'm just trying to figure out why Vince would send Punk through the crowd with zero security. Just because his product is PG doesn't mean the fans are. Back in the day, fans would assault wrestlers, especially heel, just when they walked down the aisle. Considering how much Vince like to micro-manage everything in his company, I can't see him okaying Punk just leaping through the crowd alone in a random direction.
I'll give it a week before judging anything.

Wow great find Fringe. imo this is as damming as it gets for Punk. Dude barely nudges him on the head and he FREAKS out. Wow. Bad.
-- edit. wow ya it's a total Kennedy situation as the kid in white does push Punk's head (with intent). But Punk hit the wrong guy. Crazy situation.

Snap. After reading about this somewhere else and watching again, you can see another fan reach under the sunglasses guy's arm and flip him off behind his back then hand push Punk on the back of the head. So it looks like 2 fans got Punk in the head at almost the same time?

Yeah, Punk got shoved from behind a couple of times from some kid to his right, and brushed it off. Then at about the same time, as pointed out above, one guy intentionally made contact while the guy who got hit seemed to have accidentally hit Punk in the back of the head.
CM Punk has shown over time that he seems pretty over emotional and very reactionary. He apparently lacks self control and should not have been put into that situation under any circumstance. I fear we're going to be getting a nice, long Ryback title reign soon because EVERYTHING in McMahon land takes a back seat to "senator" Linda right now and her campaign can't take the bad publicity.

I remember him flipping out on a fan for calling him by his real name (PHILLIP BROOKS) at a ROH show. He even got physical with the guy but nothing came of it. From that and all other accounts I've heard and now this, Phil is a total dick. I can only imagine his ego now because it was enormous before he was a 'superstar'.

And the jerk in question has revealed himself in a twitter conversation he didn't realize was easily picked up by anyone who does a search of mentions. This guy----just let him speak for himself. www.cagesideseats.com/2012/10/9/3478924/dario-teyes-on-twitter-brags-about-being-the-fan-that-caused-cm-punkThis may give Punk and the WWE some wiggle room here.

I place most of the blame here on WWE for booking Punk to go into the crowd like that to begin with. What possible GOOD can result from having that happen in the first place?
Punk did hit the wrong guy, it appears, so it's not like he's blameless, but I don't fault anyone for defending themselves when they're even "poked" in the back of the head. There's no way to plan for something like that before instincts take over.

I work in a public entertainment venue and I'm sorry but if someone touches my head from behind I'm going to swing. Simple as that. Poking me in the back or shoulders is one thing, but the head is another matter entirely. I'm not surprised Punk reacted that way. I would have done the same thing.
