SummerSlam 1989 is great as well. Agreed. The opening contest of the show was the best match for me, Tully and Arn versus The Hart Foundation. Brilliant tag team action. The card has the best Ultimate Warrior match I ever saw too, with Ravishing Rick carrying Hellwig (as ever) throughout! Its a shame that men like Rude and DiBiase never had runs with the WWF title but with Hogan and Savage dominating during that era, it was hardly likely.

It NEVER GETS OLD. NEVER. I watched that .gif loop for like 10 minutes the day my friend sent it to me. I've seen that match so many times and I'd never noticed that until recently. Glad I finally did though, I'd always wondered why the crowd was so happy to see Boss Man hit the ropes. SummerSlam 1989 is great as well. Agreed. That opener was really an NWA style match which I think makes it stand out that much more. Hell of a tag match, probably the best Hart Foundation tag I've ever seen. I love that Rude vs. Warrior match. They clicked really well on that night, obviously Rude led the match but Warrior more than held up his end of the bargain and the piledrivers they did were pretty brutal. The Rockers and Tito vs. Rougeaus and Martel was fantastic, as well.

A whole lot of 1987-1991 era WWF. One of the strongest aspects of the WWF during that time period was their incredible tag team division. Some legendary duos! The arrival of Survivor Series really took advantage of said talent.

I've been watching a lot of 70's NWA Pacific Northwest - Portland Wrestling. I grew up on that stuff but didn't start until the 80's. Sooo many big names spent time in Portland and it's fun watching one of my favorite heels again at his best - Playboy Buddy Rose. And Adrian Adonis as a face! Weird but he pulled it off quite well. That's really extremely cool! I was born and raised in Seattle and when I was a kid my aunt sometimes drove me to the Portland area to attend PNW shows (sometimes people ask me why I drive so many hours so often to see PWG in Los Angeles and I tell them hours long road trips to see wrestling is just something I've done throughout my life, I'm accustomed to it.) I don't remember everything since I was a kid at the time, but I definitely remember seeing some of the wrestlers there in Portland such as Playboy Buddy Rose. Lots of talent went through PNW such as Roddy Piper, Playboy Buddy Rose, Jimmy Snuka, Curt Hennig, Don Leo Johnson, and so many others. During the 1980s, although I definitely liked the WWF, I personally liked the NWA more and as part of the Great American Bash tour (I think in 1988?) I attended a show in Seattle at the arena on Mercer street that was jointly produced by both Crockett and Don Owens featuring both the NWA talent such as Ric Flair, Road Warriors, etc seen every Saturday on WTBS and local PNW talent too. Some of the matches I remember from this show (my favorite wrestling show that I attended in the 1980s:) a War Games match of the Road Warriors, Nikita Koloff, and Lex Leger vs the Four Horsemen: Ric Flair, Barry Windham, Tully Blanchard, and Arn Anderson Steve "Dr. Death" Williams vs Mike Rotunda Fantastics vs Midnight Express (one of the best matches I saw live in the 1980s) Sting and somebody I forget who vs Ron Garvin and Ivan Koloff (I remember Garvin hit Koloff with the HANDS OF STONE and an angry Koloff chased Garvin out of the ring with his steel chain and soon afterward Ivan was a face teaming with Nikita once again that Fall) I also remember Larry Zbyszko wrestled that night as did Kevin Sullivan. One of the PNW matches I remember from that night was the Southern Rockers vs Playboy Buddy Rose and Colonel DeBeers, but there were a couple of other PNW matches that night too.

That's cool. My first wrestling show ever, my parents drove us from Medford to Portland to a TV taping at the Portland Sports Arena. I remember very little from it but Buddy Rose was there (of course) and so was the Dynamite Kid. Seeing him was a paradigm shift. He did stuff unlike anyone else. I thought he was a madman flying around with his long hair(he looked like a smaller version of Brett Hart then). Eventually they started doing shows again in Medford on a regular basis My friends and I were there that one Wednesday a month for $6.00 a ticket. Most of the big stars were gone by then but we would see Billy Jack Haynes, Buddy Rose, Curt Hennig and a few of the others on the tail end of the PNW golden age. Great memories. Once we boosted a friend up to the dressing room window at the back of the building and he saw a masked wrestler, Mr Ebony, without his mask on. My friend said Ebony saw him and we ran two blocks afraid he would come after us. Ah kayfabe....
