3 friends and I played GWF back in high school for a solid 2 years. 2 years we all look back fondly on. So much so now we are talking about trying to restart it once again. We've thought about trying the online game, but I have doubts of how that would work with the way we play.
Anyway, any suggestions on the best place to start it up again? I guess New Beginnings makes sense. Look forward to talking COTG with everyone.

Welcome back! As to where to start, I'd say if you're into current wrestling, the move and stories and such from New Beginning would be what you want.. or, if you're willing to go in with a little more cash, the current set (2123) is actually a good start point too.. but would require you to buy 2119-2123. If you were looking for more nostalgia, you could go with the original, (2087) or, for the very beginning, Early Classics, which starts WAY back in 2074 (that would require buying a bunch of sets as well though) If you don't mind printing the cards yourself, there are POW(formerly CPC) and ACE sets that give you all the cards you need to play in the current set. POW also has the MMA version of the game, if you're into that. ACE is a separate fed as well... the first couple sets had a very different tone that GWF, but the current one is more of a 'sports entertainment' feel... If you'er playing with a couple other guys that could each run a team, ACE might be really good, actually. As to playing online, I've personally found the game table to not work all that well (especially in attempting to play against someone else) but there are defiantely some people who use it. The Stat tracker is nice for keep track of everything, especially if more than one person might want to have access to the info. Hope that helps

Thanks wildfire. What you mention about the online is exactly what I worried about, plus the chat feature just wouldn't allow for the level of banter that we remember from back in the day.
As for starting point, I like the idea of New Beginnings especially with the with the sons of Thanos (we dropped the 2nd t) and Star Warrior being involved. It would allow us to reference the old days without being bound by them, but I will look into the ACE sets. Didn't really even consider it until now.

It's great to see an old fan return. I would recommend New Beginnings as it's more into the moves, and such of recent wrestling. Welcome back!!

Rahl I've been backing up all of my cards lately in case I lose them (I had lost a set of Legends, but found them, luckily, I had made backups...now I'm starting on my COTG stuff since I have lost a Death Masque card) I had the first 3 GWF sets in the car with me (I was going to scan them during my lunch) while I was picking up our 5 year old at school and began looking thru them...and it's funny, looking back on the older COTG cards and seeing how they reflected moveset from the 80s and how they are much different today. I run an EC fed when I can, but almost made me want to restart from 2087....

I stopped watching wrestling religiously a few years back. I wasn't really thrilled with the direction of the WWE after the big Hulk v. Rock match in Toronto [which I had floor seats for btw ]. Although I did catch a couple episodes of RAW and Smackdown recently and they seem to have found their stride again. Anyway, an update on me, I did receive the New Beginnings set yesterday and I have to say it looks really cool. My only concern is the number of wrestlers with double, and even triple finishers. In our old league Actagon dominated due to the double finisher, double choice level 3 offense, and we had to ban Chaos from the league due to the triple finisher since whenever he got to Level 3 offense, he never lost. Are we the only ones that had issues with this??

Double and triple finishers are usually a big advantage, but I haven't have the problems that you're talking about. Maybe it's in which rules you're using that made them so tough. Do you use all advanced rules or only some of them?

Judging by your description, I'm thinking you're re-rolling on the same level of offense on a choice... the official rules are to go up a level (so you can't just keep trying to get the finisher)
That's probably the problem... not that having two finishers isn't a good thing, mind, but they should be unstoppable or anything.
