Always nice to see an Andre win. Valiant just keeps winning too. Great card all around.

What an amazing night of action at New Year's Knockout XIII. Jimmy Valiant is having amazing success on top and what a huge win over Fred Blassie in that champions battle. Very fun way to end the night with the fan favorites celebrating in the ring. I'm sure Blassie wasn't too happy about that!
Andre the Giant versus Rick Rude was a longtime in coming but bittersweet as Andre got the quick win only to be assaulted by King Kong Bundy. I for one can't wait for Andre to get in the ring with Bundy. Who knows what will come from that meeting, especially with Bundy winning the Battle Royal and being in line for a title shot against Valiant.

Thanks to Troy, Chad, and Crue Fan for the comments!
If you haven't seen on the "Title Histories" subboard, check out my USWA results starting from the beginning of 2004, which had never been posted on any Discussion Boards until now! After another memorable New Year’s Knockout, the January 7 edition of USWA Championship Wrestling was packed full of news for the start of 2017!• After the heinous attack by Superstar Bundy on both Andre the Giant and “Ravishing” Rick Rude, it was announced that Rude had suffered more injuries, including broken ribs and other internal injuries. The three-time former USWA World Heavyweight champion will be out of action indefinitely. “The 8th Wonder of The World” suffered minor rib injuries compared to Rude but will need to miss schedule dates in New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) and the Catch Wrestling Association (CWA) that he had booked for January. “The Mouth of The South” Jimmy Hart and Bundy were interviewed in-studio. Bundy held his Superstar jumpsuit in his hands and wore street clothes. Lance Russell asked what led the New Jersey giant to attack both men. Hart answered that Bundy wanted to make a statement after winning the 25-man Battle Royal earlier in the evening that is now a focused man and he will take on and take out anybody who might be a threat. Bundy said that while he is a true superstar in the world of pro wrestling, he does not need the jumpsuit anymore and will go back to being known as King Kong Bundy! He said that 2017 will be the “Year of Bundy”! Hart ended by saying that Bundy is going to bring the USWA World title back to where it belongs—the First Family of Wrestling! • Commissioner Bob Armstrong announced some matches for the first USWA cards of 2017, first of all for the January 23 return to the Rupp Arena in Lexington! o After an impressive win over the Midnight Express on New Year’s Eve, Doctor X and Billy Black Lyons will defend the USWA World Tag Team titles in the main event against their rivals and former champs Steve “Dr. Death” Williams and Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy. X and Lyons regained the titles last month in Dixon, KY after Mad Dog Vachon interfered with a chair and took out Williams’ knee, leading to Lyons scoring a pinfall with the figure-four leglock in a ****¾ match. Williams and Gordy will be out for revenge and try and regain the titles! o Two former World Tag Team championship teams will collide again, as the Midnight Express face the Vachons! The Vachons are coming off an impressive win over Brad and Brian Armstrong on New Year’s Eve, while the Midnights came close to winning their seventh Tag Team titles but did not succeed. A win here will mean a lot in the tag team division in 2017! o “Mr. USA” Tony Atlas will collide with “The Gamesmaster” Kevin Sullivan in a rematch from November! Atlas scored the only pinfall or submission win on the evil Bostonian when he pinned him in Bowling Green. Sullivan will look to avenge that loss and cause more terror in the New Year! o Another rematch from Bowling Green will see “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson take on “The Suicide Blonde” Chris Candido! The last time these two met one-on-one, Candido came out the winner via disqualification after Brian Kendrick interfered. However, Danielson had the match won with the guillotine choke but Dan “The Beast” Severn broke it up behind Scott Bowden’s back. Danielson is hoping to get a decisive win over his long-time rival! • “Bullet” Bob also announced some matches for the January 30 card at the Memorial Auditorium in Chattanooga! o Another rematch from last month will be for the USWA Southern Heavyweight championship. “Classy” Freddie Blassie will defend the title against “Exotic” Adrian Street. This title match will main event the Chattanooga card! Street appeared to have the match last time and the title won but lost his cool and got disqualified. Blassie is coming off losing his challenge for the World title at New Year’s Knockout and isn’t going to let his Southern title go so easily! If Blassie retains on the 30th, he will tie the record for the greatest number of Southern title defenses with the Sheik’s third reign at 10 defenses! o Jim Cornette announced that Tom Prichard will return from his latest neck injury on the Chattanooga card. Prichard and Chris Candido, as the Heavenly Bodies, will take on their rivals the Midnight Express! “Beautiful” Bobby Eaton and “Sweet” Stan Lane gave the Bodies their first decisive loss back in November in Eaton’s hometown of Huntsville and reinjured his neck with the Veg-o-Matic in a ***** match. Cornette hopes to beat his former team the Midnights again and start off the New Year with a win for the Bodies! • Tommy Gilbert was interviewed in the studio. Lance Russell asked him how he was feeling after being spiked by “The Gamesmaster” Kevin Sullivan at New Year’s Knockout XIII. Gilbert said it certainly didn’t feel good to have a spike shoved into his head but he was glad that a great man in the Patriot came to his rescue. Russell asked Gilbert what 2017 held for the former USWA official. Gilbert said that after a match like he had in Louisville with Sullivan, things are not over. He said he doesn’t know how long he will stick around in the USWA or how long Commissioner Armstrong and the USWA Committee will allow him to stick around once he gets his hands on Sullivan and the House of Humperdink but he will do all he can to avenge both of his sons! New Year’s Knockout XIII was another memorable card but the USWA will kick off 2017 with a huge card on January 16 at the Municipal Auditorium in Nashville! • Two rivals will continue their feud in the New Year, as Red Bastien will take on one-half of the World Tag Team champions Billy Black Lyons! Bastien broke Lyons’ nose after their match two months ago in Memphis. Lyons is now without his faceguard but he wants revenge on his former Flying Redheads tag team partner. Bastien offered to reform the Redheads this past year after unmasking Double X as Lyons but Lyons refused. What will happen in the latest chapter of this feud? • In a rematch from New Year’s Knockout XIII, Brian Kendrick and Paul London will collide with Jim Cornette’s team of “The Suicide Blonde” Chris Candido and Dan “The Beast” Severn. Candido and Severn got a disqualification win over the high-flying fan favorites when Kendrick used Cornette’s tennis racquet on Severn, which Cornette had slid into the ring for Severn to use. Can Kendrick and London avenge that loss? • Another storied USWA feud will continue, when “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson will face “The Belfast Bruiser” Fit Finlay. When these two met in December in Dixon, Finlay was disqualified for using a steel chair. Danielson is irate after that match, as well as his tainted countout loss to “Exotic” Adrian Street at New Year’s Knockout. Can the “Dragon” get back on track or will the Irish brawler topple him? • Two title matches will kick off 2017. Firstly, Ray “The Crippler” Stevens retained the USWA Mid-America Heavyweight title in the Triangle Match on New Year’s Eve. His next challenger will be former champion David Taylor. Taylor bloodied up Stevens and defeated him in a ****½ match in December in Evansville. Stevens stated on Championship Wrestling that with the title on the line, he will bring his “A” game. Can Stevens retain or will the British grappler become a two-time champ? • The main event will be for the USWA World Heavyweight title. The current and two-time champion “The Boogie Woogie Man” “Handsome” Jimmy Valiant will continue his battles with the First Family of Wrestling and defend against King Kong Bundy! Bundy got the title shot by winning the 25-man Battle Royal at New Year’s Knockout. He made another impact later in the card, attacking both Andre the Giant and “Ravishing” Rick Rude after their match. Valiant came to Andre’s aid. In the WMC-TV Studios, he stated that not only is going to retain the title for his “street people” but also fight on behalf of his friend Andre! This will be Bundy’s first shot at any USWA singles championship. Will Bundy become the largest USWA World champion in history or will Valiant triumph once again? All these bout, as well as the Dark Patriot taking on Tommy Rogers! Plus, Steve “Dr. Death” Williams teams up with Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy, and Tommy Gilbert, Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana, and Luke Harper in action!

Thanks to Booker Bill for the comments!
January 16, 2017 Card #494: Municipal Auditorium in Nashville
1) Luke Harper was victorious in the opener over Nashville’s own Jake “The Milkman” Milliman. Harper was accompanied by his employer Tyler Black. He unleashed a brutal attack on Milliman, even tossing him across the ring by his beard at one point! Harper finished Milliman with the big boot after about two minutes. Harper will be receiving a shot at the Mid-America title in the near future. Whom will he challenge? (Read on!) DUD
2) Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana pinned “Dastardly” Danny Doring. Doring attacked the Chicago native at the bell, hoping to get a big win. Cabana battled back and was focused. He hit the Colt .45 a few minutes later and scored the pinfall. The Nashville fans gave the host of The Art of Wrestling a big ovation, as he hopes to accomplish a lot in the USWA in 2017! ¼*
3) The Dark Patriot remained undefeated, thanks to “The Gamesmaster” Kevin Sullivan, defeating Tommy Rogers in a double-juice match! Former Mid-America champion Rogers had a lot of offense against the masked man. He surprised the Dark Patriot with a sunset flip for a near fall. He nailed the masked man with a series of dropkicks for another two-count. Rogers executed the Tomikaze and went for a cover but the Dark Patriot got his foot on the bottom rope to break up the pin attempt. Sir Oliver Humperdink distracted Rogers and Frank Morrell, while Dark Patriot crawled to the corner and Sullivan slipped an object into his mask. Rogers turned around but got blasted with a loaded head butt. Dark Patriot went for a cover but Rogers kicked out. Rogers fought back and surprised Dark Patriot with a second Tomikaze. He went for a cover but Humperdink again distracted Morrell. Patriot had blood coming out of his mask after the Tomikaze. He battled back and hit the Scud Missile but Rogers rolled out of the ring to avoid a pin. Dark Patriot blasted him again with a loaded head butt and now Rogers was wearing the “crimson mask.” It looked like Dark Patriot had things wrapped up but Rogers fought back again with the “Music City” fans rooting him on. Humperdink again distracted Morrell. Rogers set up for a third Tomikaze. Sullivan got up on the apron. Dark Patriot shoved Rogers off into the ropes and Sullivan blasted him with his golden spike! Rogers dropped to the mat and Dark Patriot made a cover. Morrell turned around and counted the pin. The fans were irate by this! As Dark Patriot, Sullivan, and Humperdink celebrated the victory, Tommy Gilbert sprinted out of the back with a steel chair in hand! He chased the three way and then checked on Rogers. Rogers was wounded but able to return to the back. ****¾
4) Tommy Gilbert stayed in the ring for his own match. He scored a quick win over George South. Gilbert dominated the match. He hit a back suplex on South. South was hurting but got to his feet. Gilbert immediately followed up with the running knee lift and pinned South in about 90 seconds. The Nashville fans gave Gilbert a big ovation for his win! The patriarch of the Gilberts looks determined to get his hands on Kevin Sullivan and the House of Humperdink! DUD
5) Steve “Dr. Death” Williams and Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy dominated Virgil and “The Unpredictable” Johnny Rodz. Virgil and Rodz seemed fine with each other after Rodz had tried to eliminate Virgil in the 25-man Battle Royal at New Year’s Knockout XIII but Virgil ended up eliminating Rodz! Virgil and Williams started off the bout for their teams. Virgil nailed Williams with some forearms and boxing punches, showcasing his fancy footwork. He turned to the crowd for a moment but Williams responded with a lariat! Williams tagged to “Bamm Bamm” and the former World Tag Team champions blasted Virgil with a double football tackle. Virgil was down but managed to crawl to his corner. He went to tag Rodz. Rodz reached out but then dropped down off the ring apron refusing to tag his own partner! Fans were shocked by “The Unpredictable One’s” actions, as was Virgil! Gordy grabbed Virgil and whipped him into the buckles hard. Gordy then grabbed Virgil, climbed up the buckles, and hit the Bamm Bamm slam. He covered Virgil and scored the pinfall in about two minutes before Rodz even wrestled. Williams and Gordy looked impressive before they try win back the World Tag Team titles next week in Lexington!
While the match was memorable for its brevity, the aftermath was just as memorable. Rodz returned to the ring and attacked the wounded Virgil. Suddenly, he was joined in the ring by “Pretty Boy” Larry Sharpe and the two double teamed Virgil! Fans actually started chanting “Virgil, Virgil!” Sharpe looked ready to set up Virgil for the piledriver. Suddenly, S.D. Jones and Jim Powers came out of the back and ran off Rodz and Sharpe! They cleared the ring and then helped Virgil to the back. Virgil seemed surprised by his former opponents helping him! DUD
6) Speaking of the World Tag Team titles, one-half of the champions Billy Black Lyons scored a win over his former tag team partner Red Bastien. Bastien had the early advantage. He hit an amazing flying head scissors for a near fall. Lyons capitalized on a mistake by Bastien and worked on his knee. He clamped on the figure-four leglock and had it for nearly a minute. Bastien fought through the pain and made it to the ropes for a break. Lyons tried for the X-cellent sleeper. Bastien started to drop but again made the ropes for a break. Lyons maintained control. He got Bastien down on the mat and came off the second turnbuckle with a knee drop to Bastien’s injured knee. He made a cover, hooking Bastien’s leg and the tights and scored the pin. Lyons gained a measure of revenge for his broken nose but you can bet that this feud is not over! **¾
7) In a rematch from New Year’s Knockout XIII, Brian Kendrick and Paul London battled Chris Candido and Dan “The Beast” Severn to a double disqualification in a wild match. Jim Cornette’s tag team controlled Kendrick for the first few minutes. Severn lifted Kendrick up for the fireman’s carry slam. He had him in the air near Kendrick’s own corner, which allowed Kendrick to blind tag London. Severn hit the slam but London came in and attacked the former USWA World and Southern champion. London got Severn down on the mat and hit the 450 splash but “The Beast” kicked out. London got Severn in an Oklahoma side roll but Severn again kicked out. “The Suicide Blonde” tagged in and had some offense but London took over. He and Kendrick a few minutes later hit a combination reverse STO and enzuigiri. London went for a cover but Severn saved his partner. They later executed the assisted Shooting Star Press but “The Beast” again made a save. Kendrick set up a suplex on Candido. Before he hit it, Candido was near his own corner and managed to blind tag Severn. Kendrick hit the suplex but then almost immediately got German suplexed by Severn. Severn attempted a pin but Kendrick got a shoulder up at 2¾. Kendrick fought back and the fan favorites again hit the assisted Shooting Star Press on Severn. London landed right on Severn’s face, busting open his nose. Before a pin attempt could be made, Cornette jumped up on the ring apron and distracted Jerry Calhoun. Kendrick ran over and dropkicked Cornette off the apron, earning a big cheer from the Nashville fans! This brought in Candido and all four men started going at it. Kendrick and Severn, the legal men, paired up, as did London and Candido. Kendrick and Severn were slugging it out in the corner, with Severn gaining the upper hand. Calhoun warned “The Beast” to let Kendrick out of the corner and Severn responded by shoving Calhoun to the mat. Kendrick rolled out of the corner and nailed Severn with a roundhouse kick, then started to stomp on him in the corner. Calhoun recovered but Kendrick shoved him down as well! Calhoun had lost control and called for the bell, disqualifying both teams! After the bell, Severn and Candido got away as quickly as they could, grabbed “The Louisville Slugger,” and retreated to the locker room! ****
8) “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson was victorious over his long-time rival Fit Finlay. Danielson controlled most of the action against “The Belfast Bruiser” in this match. Finlay had some brief offense and went up the ropes. Danielson recovered, followed him, and hit a back superplex. He went for a cover but Finlay kicked out. “Dragon” applied the LeBell Lock a few minutes later and forced Finlay to tap. Danielson was impressive here and is looking forward to another one-on-one match with another rival in Chris Candido next week in Lexington. ½*
9) In the first of two title matches, Ray “The Crippler” Stevens retained the USWA Mid-America Heavyweight title over former champion David Taylor. This was a back-and-forth match but the champion definitely seemed more ready for Taylor this time. Taylor hit the British suplex twice but Stevens kicked out on both attempts. Stevens surprised Taylor with a vertical suplex for a two-count. He maintained control. He hit the piledriver but rather than going for a pin, he immediately went up to the top rope and hit the Bombs Away. He covered Taylor and scored the pinfall. Stevens retained the title and made Jimmy Hart a happy man! **¾ 10) The main event was for the USWA World Heavyweight championship. Current and two-time champion “The Boogie Woogie Man” “Handsome” Jimmy Valiant put the title on the line against King Kong Bundy. Bundy earned this title shot by winning the 25-man Battle Royal at New Year’s Knockout XIII. He later on the card attacked both “Ravishing” Rick Rude and Andre the Giant, an ally of Valiant. Bundy went back to the King Kong name, instead of Superstar, to show his seriousness on wanting to win his first USWA singles championship in 2017.
Bundy was impressive at the opening bell, charging “Boogie Woogie” and taking him out of the ring. He drove him back-first into the ring post in the first few minutes. He tossed the World champion into the ring and then tossed him into the corner. He hit the Atlantic City Avalanche about two minutes into the bout. He went for a cover but Valiant kicked out at two. The challenger maintained control and hit a second Avalanche a moment later. He went for a cover but Valiant kicked out again, this time at 2¾. Bundy continued to punish Valiant. He kept him down on the mat and hit a big splash. He went for another pin but again the World champ kicked out. With the “Music City” fans behind him, “Boogie Woogie” battled back. He hit a double ear clap and ran wild on Bundy but couldn’t get him down for a pin. He knocked him out of the ring after several roundhouse punches. Valiant went after Bundy. “The Mouth of The South” Jimmy Hart distracted Frank Morrell (replacing Jerry Calhoun, who was too hurt from the tag team match earlier where he was shoved down twice). Bundy grabbed the World Heavyweight title belt from the announcers’ table and tried to smack Valiant with it. “Handsome” Jimmy cut him off with some more punches and Bundy dropped the belt. Valiant scooped up his belt and smashed Bundy in the face with it. Unfortunately for Valiant, Morrell turned around in time, saw this, and called for the bell after about eight minutes of action. He disqualified the World champion and awarded the bout to Bundy via disqualification. Of course, Bundy did not win the title but Hart was happy that his man defeated Valiant. After hearing the decision, the World champion went to attack Bundy and Hart but the two retreated to the locker room! **

Wild match between Londrick/Severn and Candido. Bundymania doesn't quite get started. Good show as always.

Thanks to Troy for the comments!
The January 21 edition of USWA Championship Wrestling was packed full of news! • A video aired that was taken in the locker room of the Municipal Auditorium after last week’s card in Nashville. King Kong Bundy, Mid-America champion Ray “The Crippler Stevens,” Bobby Shane, and “The Mouth of The South” Jimmy Hart were leaving their locker room. Big John Studd, who was not scheduled on the card, came up to them and asked Hart why he hadn’t returned any of his phone calls this week. Hart cackled and said that it had been a busy week, getting Bundy ready for his World title match and Stevens ready for his Mid-America title defense. Studd asked why Hart hasn’t gotten him any matches so far for 2017. Hart called Studd “selfish” and that he needed to think about the entire First Family. Studd said that Bundy would not have gotten his title shot had he (Studd) not saved Bundy four times from being eliminated in the 25-man Battle Royal at New Year’s Knockout! Bundy reminded Studd that he saved Studd from being eliminated by S.D. Jones! Hart thanked Studd for his services but his services are no longer needed! He said, “Happy New Year, baby!” and then started to leave! Studd went to grab Hart but was met with a big right hand from his (now former) tag team partner Bundy! Stevens and Shane joined the attack. They got the giant down on the ground and Bundy followed up with a big splash! Several USWA officials arrived on the scene to help Studd. • Back in the studios, it was announced that the former partners Studd and Bundy will wrestle each other on January 30 at the Memorial Auditorium in Chattanooga! Hart told Lance Russell that if Studd wanted matches in 2017, he got a big one! He said that he’s been disappointed in Studd for months and that Bundy is the only giant the First Family needs for now! Lance asked the manager if the First Family will only consist of Bundy, Stevens, and Shane. Hart said that while that is the case at this moment, he is in negotiations with some top wrestling talent. He told Lance and the wrestling world to “stay tune, baby!” • It was also announced that because of his win by disqualification this last week in Nashville, Bundy will receive a rematch for the USWA World Heavyweight title against “The Boogie Woogie Man” “Handsome” Jimmy Valiant. That bout will be the main event for the February 13 card at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Coliseum in Evansville. • “Pretty Boy” Larry Sharpe and “The Unpredictable” Johnny Rodz were interviewed in-studio. Lance Russell told Rodz that he lived up to his “Unpredictable” nickname by attacking his tag team partner Virgil last week in Nashville! Rodz said that he was tired of Virgil hogging the spotlight and getting them nowhere as a tag team! He said that he contacted Sharpe after seeing Sharpe drop “that bum” George South and asked if he wanted to form a new team. Sharpe interjected that with him being from New Jersey and Rodz from New York, they are “practically neighbors.” He said that their new team will “rise to the top” in the USWA! Their first match together will be on January 30 in Chattanooga. They will take on S.D. Jones and Jim Powers, who “meddled” in their attempt to put Virgil out of wrestling for good! Russell announced later in the show that he had received word that fans will hear from Virgil on next week’s Championship Wrestling! • Commissioner Armstrong announced more matches for January 30 at the Memorial Auditorium in Chattanooga! o Another tag team match to take place on the card will feature the Patriot and Tommy Gilbert teaming up to battle the Dark Patriot and the One Man Gang of the House of Humperdink! The Patriot and Gilbert have found common enemies in the House of Humperdink and hope to gain another win. Will “The Gamesmaster” Kevin Sullivan be present in Chattanooga or will he avoid Gilbert and the Patriot? o Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana will battle David Taylor! Taylor gave Cabana his first decisive loss in the USWA last month in Knoxville, although he did have his feet on the ropes for leverage. A win over former Mid-America champ Taylor would certainly get Cabana some attention in 2017! o A tag team rivalry will resume, as Steve “Dr. Death” Williams and Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy battle the Vachons! Mad Dog Vachon’s interference led to Williams and Gordy losing the World Tag Team titles last month in Dixon to the Vachons’ allies Doctor X and Billy Black Lyons. The fan favorite powerhouses will get a rematch this coming week in Lexington but they would love to get some physical revenge in Chattanooga!
• The commissioner announced some other match-ups for the month of February. In a rematch from New Year’s Knockout XIII, “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson will collide with “Exotic” Adrian Street. Danielson largely dominated Street in their match at the Louisville Gardens on New Year’s Eve, even busting him open but Dan “The Beast” Severn and Jim Cornette’s interference led to Street getting a countout win. Depending on the result of the main event of the Chattanooga card on the 30th, Danielson could be facing the new Southern champion in a non-title match! • After retaining the USWA Mid-America Heavyweight title last week in Nashville, Ray “The Crippler” Stevens’ next challenger was verified. He will face Luke Harper on February 20 at the Tupelo Sports Arena. Harper scored a huge non-title upset on Stevens last month in Dixon which earned him his first shot at any USWA title. Stevens, accompanied by Jimmy Hart, told Lance Russell that he thinks Harper betrayed his employer Tyler Black by interfering in the Triangle Match for the title at New Year’s Knockout, getting Black disqualified, so that Harper could win try and win the title for himself! Stevens stated that he proved he could beat David Taylor, who also had beaten him in a non-title bout, when the gold is on the line. And he will do the same thing against Harper next month in Tupelo!
The USWA comes back to the Rupp Arena in Lexington on January 23! • “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson will take on his long-time rival “The Suicide Blonde” Chris Candido! The battles between these two started in 2010 over the USWA Texas title, which Danielson ended up winning from Candido in November of that year. Brian Kendrick brought Danielson back this past fall when Paul London was out of action, partially due to Danielson’s past with Candido. When these two met one-on-one in November in Bowling Green, Danielson got DQ’d due to Kendrick’s interference but only after Dan Severn’s interference stopped Scott Bowden from seeing Candido tap out to Danielson’s guillotine choke. Danielson scored an impressive win over Fit Finlay last week in Nashville. Can he do the same against Candido this week? • Two former World Tag Team championship teams will collide when six-time former champions the Midnight Express battle two-time former champions the Vachons! The last time these teams met was during the Vachons’ first reign in December 2015. The Midnights appeared to have the belts won in Union City, until their rivals at the time, the PYT Express, interfered to get the Vachons disqualified. Both teams would love another shot at the titles in 2017. Which team will leave Lexington the winners? • The devious “Gamesmaster” Kevin Sullivan will face “Mr. USA” Tony Atlas. Atlas scored the only pin or submission win on Sullivan in the USWA so far when he pinned him in Bowling Green in November. Sullivan stated on Championship Wrestling that he now knows Atlas’ weaknesses and his muscles won’t save him this time. He said that he and the House of Humperdink will cause more havoc in the USWA in 2017! Can Sullivan bring down “Mr. USA”? • King Kong Bundy has his sights set on the World Heavyweight title. But this week, he will do battle with Jimmy Valiant’s ally and tag team partner and a man he knows well—“Superstar” Bill Dundee! Dundee and Bundy had many battles in both singles and tag team matches in 2016, including Bundy adopting the Superstar Bundy persona for most of the year! Bundy has become King Kong Bundy again and seems focused on destroying all wrestlers to become the top wrestler in the USWA. Dundee and Bundy had three singles bouts in ’16 and the Aussie came out the victor each time. Can Bundy defeat Dundee and send a message to “The Boogie Woogie Man” or will the “Superstar” triumph again? • The main event will be a rematch for the USWA World Tag Team titles. Current and two-time champions Doctor X and Billy Black Lyons will defend the titles against former champions Steve “Dr. Death” Williams and Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy. Williams and Gordy have had many battles with the champions and their allies the Vachons over the last year. They won the titles from X and Lyons in November in Bowling Green but the rulebreakers regained the titles the next month in Dixon, when Mad Dog Vachon interfered with a steel chair to Williams’ knee. Lyons immediately applied the figure-four leglock and pinned a bloodied “Dr. Death” when the Oklahoma Sooner passed out due to the pain. Lyons has claimed that the only reason that Williams and Gordy won the belts from them in the first place was due to his broken nose. Lyons’ nose is now healed and he does not have his faceguard. Who will win the latest chapter in this feud and leave Lexington the World Tag Team champions?
All these huge bouts, plus Billy Gunn faces Bobby Shane, one-on-one! As well as Tommy Gilbert, Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana, the Patriot, and Brad and Brian Armstrong in action!

January 23, 2017 Card #495: Rupp Arena in Lexington1) The Patriot was victorious in the opener over “Pretty Boy” Larry Sharpe. Sharpe was accompanied by his new tag team partner “The Unpredictable” Johnny Rodz. Rodz got involved a few times in the bout but the Patriot pulled through and dominated much of the match. Sharpe got the advantage and sent the masked American into the buckles. He charged in at him but Patriot avoided the attack and Sharpe crashed into the buckles hard. Patriot rolled him up with a school-boy and scored the pinfall. The Patriot is looking forward to teaming up with Tommy Gilbert next week against the Dark Patriot and the One Man Gang in Chattanooga! ¼* 2) Brad and Brian Armstrong were victorious in the opener over George South and Rick Miller. The Armstrongs worked over South for the first few minutes. South made a comeback and tagged to Memphis native Miller. Miller had some brief offense but Brad regained control. South tagged back in and briefly had control of Brad, hitting a forearm drop and scoring a two-count. Brad battled back and tagged to his brother. “The Road Dogg” ran wild on South and dropped him across the middle rope on the same side of the ring as the Armstrongs’ corner. Brian bounced off the opposite ropes and hit a rope straddle to South’s back. He pulled South off the ropes and covered him to score the pinfall before Miller could rescue his partner. The Lexington fans gave the Armstrongs a big ovation for their win! **¼ 3) Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana avenged his disqualification loss from last month with a quick pinfall win on the Amish RoadKill. “The Angry Amish Warrior” wanted to score a pinfall on the Chicago native and attacked him right at the bell, hitting the Dirt Road Slam. Cabana battled back. He managed to get the big RoadKill up to execute the Colt .45. He scored the pinfall after just a few minutes. Cabana avenged one loss and hopes to avenge another next week against David Taylor in Chattanooga! DUD 4) Billy Gunn scored a big win with a pinfall on Bobby Shane. This was a back-and-forth bout. Shane surprised Gunn with a reverse rolling cradle for a near fall about three minutes into the bout. Shane sent Gunn into the ropes and bent over for a back body drop. He telegraphed the attempt and Gunn surprised him with the Famouser out of nowhere! Gunn was hurting and slow to make a cover so Shane was able to kick out. Gunn remained in control and hit a second Famouser a few moments later. The second Famouser busted Shane open. Gunn went for a cover near the ropes. “The Mouth of The South” Jimmy Hart placed Shane’s foot on the bottom rope to break up the pin. Paul Morton did not see the interference but the Rupp Arena fans and Gunn did. Gunn maintained his cool and hit a Cobra Clutch slam for another near fall. Shane rolled out of the ring for a breather. Hart came over to him and in doing so, handed Shane an object. Shane slipped it into his knee pad. Gunn went after Hart briefly but then turned around into a loaded knee smash from Shane. Shane tossed the three-time former World Tag Team champion back into the ring and then came off the ropes with a second loaded knee drop. Gunn was dazed but fought through the pain with the crowd on his side. He reversed a whip into the ropes and surprised Shane with a power slam for another two-count. Gunn blasted a bloodied Shane with a knee lift of his own (a legal one!) and scored the pinfall in a hard-fought bout! The Lexington fans gave Gunn lots of love for his win! ***¼ 5) Tommy Gilbert made short work of “Dastardly” Danny Doring. Gilbert showed fire right at the bell, nailing Doring with forearms and punches. He scored the pinfall in about two minutes with the running knee lift. Gilbert looks ready to team up with the Patriot and to fight with House of Humperdink members the Dark Patriot and the One Man Gang next week! DUD 6) “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson got a countout win over Chris Candido. Danielson surprised Candido with a boot to the face and a running sunset flip a few minutes into the bout for a two-count. Danielson went for the guillotine choke. Jim Cornette distracted Scott Bowden, while Dan “The Beast” Severn interfered and threw some stiff punches at Danielson, breaking up the choke. Candido controlled the two-time former USWA World champion for a few minutes. He went for an armbar but Danielson blocked the attempt and took over. Candido regained control and had Danielson hurting. “The Suicide Blonde” took Danielson up the turnbuckles and attempted the Blonde Bomb. Danielson fought hard and backdropped Candido off the top rope to the mat. He then attempted a second guillotine choke but Candido scrambled to the ropes for a break. Candido rolled out of the ring for a breather but “Dragon” was ready for him. He went out to the ring apron and then dove off the apron with a jumping knee smash to Candido! The fans went wild at this move! Both men were down but Danielson recovered and rolled back into the ring by Bowden’s count of seven. Despite Cornette’s pleas and Severn’s help, Candido couldn’t beat Bowden’s count, so Bowden called for the bell and awarded the bout to Danielson. While Danielson was happy to get his hand raised, fans could tell it was not the type of win he wanted. **¾ 7) The Midnight Express got a big win over the Vachons. The Vachons had the early advantage double teaming “Beautiful” Bobby Eaton for several minutes. Eaton managed to tag “Sweet” Stan Lane. Butcher cut Lane off and pounded on him. He went for the hangman but Lane got a foot on the ropes for a break. Butcher got Lane down on the mat and went for a big splash but Lane rolled out of the way and Butcher crashed hard. Both men were down but “The Gangster of Love” recovered first and tagged back to Eaton. Eaton went right up to the top rope, Lane got to his feet, and the Midnights executed the Rocket Launcher. Eaton went for a cover but Mad Dog broke up the pin. Lane came back in and knocked Mad Dog out of the ring with karate kicks. The Midnights followed up with the Veg-o-Matic shortly thereafter and scored the pin on Butcher. It was an impressive win for the six-time former World Tag Team champions as they look forward to another battle with their rivals the Heavenly Bodies next week in Chattanooga! ** 8) “The Gamesmaster” Kevin Sullivan avenged his only pinfall loss in the USWA so far with a controversial pin on “Mr. USA” Tony Atlas. Sullivan was aggressive at the bell. He hit a clothesline and a Tree of Woe for separate near falls. Atlas battled back and hit a dropkick for a two-count of his own. Sullivan got knocked out of the ring. Sir Oliver Humperdink distracted Joe Wheeler, while Sullivan went over to the announcers’ table. Atlas reached through the ropes to grab him but Sullivan had grabbed the hammer used to sound the ring bell. He jammed the hammer into Atlas’ throat and returned to the ring. He worked over the powerhouse for several minutes. With the fans on his side, Atlas rallied back. He went for the press slam on Sullivan. Atlas was near the ropes and Humperdink was able to reach in and clip Atlas’ knee with his cane! Atlas collapse to the mat and Sullivan took control. He pulled Atlas to the center of the ring and hit the double foot stomp. He covered Atlas and scored the pinfall. The Lexington fans berated Sullivan and Humperdink with the boos! After the bell, Sullivan went to hit Atlas with Humperdink’s cane. Before he could unleash more punishment, Tommy Gilbert and the Patriot came running out of the back. Sullivan and Humperdink quickly retreated before the fan favorites could get their hands on them! Gilbert and Patriot checked on Atlas and helped him to the back. ***¼ 9) King Kong Bundy scored an impressive win and his first one in singles over his rival “Superstar” Bill Dundee. Bundy was aggressive at the bell. He hit a body slam on the Aussie for a near fall. Dundee fought back and looked like he would score another win on the New Jersey giant. He had Bundy dazed with punches and then attempted a whip into the corner. Bundy reversed the whip and sent Dundee in hard. He immediately followed up with the Atlantic City Avalanche and covered Dundee to score the pin after just a few minutes, including demanding his usual five-count. Bundy looked very impressive and was sending a message to Dundee’s tag team partner World Heavyweight champion “The Boogie Woogie Man” “Handsome” Jimmy Valiant for their title rematch in a few weeks in Evansville! ¼* 10) The main event was a rematch for the USWA World Tag Team titles. Current and two-time champions Doctor X and Billy Black Lyons put the titles on the line against former champions Steve “Dr. Death” Williams and Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy. These teams have met a few times in the past year. In the history of their matches for the World Tag Team titles, Williams and Gordy won the belts from X and Lyons in November in Bowling Green when Lyons was suffering from a broken nose. The Doctor and Lyons regained the belts the next month in Dixon, KY when their ally Mad Dog Vachon interfered with a chair smash to Williams’ knee. Going into this match, as far as could be seen, all four men were injury-free and at the top of their game. The challengers started off strong, trapping Lyons in the ring for the first few minutes. Williams showcased his strength with an impressive press slam for a two-count. Gordy tagged and hit the Bamm Bamm slam but Lyons managed to get a foot on the ropes. Gordy hit the power bomb a moment later but X broke up the pin attempt. Lyons managed to tag to his masked partner. X surprised Gordy with a backslide for a near fall. X worked on Gordy’s leg with a falling leg snap. He went for the figure-four leglock. Gordy was in the center of the ring but with Williams and the Rupp Arena fans cheering him on he pulled himself to the ropes for a break. Lyons tagged back in but Gordy took over and tagged back to “Doc.” Williams almost immediately hit the backdrop driver. He covered Lyons and scored the pin while Gordy knocked down an intervening X with a running elbow smash. Paul Morton called for the belt and awarded Williams and Gordy the USWA World Tag Team titles for the second time! The fans went wild as “Born in The USA” blared through the Rupp Arena! “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan came out and joined his allies in celebrating their win! **¾
