I'm with bookerbill, reaching 500 cards is a great achievement so congrats on that. I'm really looking forward to seeing what Harley Race can do in his return, especially aligned with Jimmy Hart. Race is already tough enough but imagine what Hart added to that can do. As always, I'm a big fan of the USWA. Keep the action coming!

Thanks to Crue Fan and my brother Chad for the comments!Nice creativity with the Sullivan-Valiant Main Event Cory! Took a disappointing Main Event, and crafted a pretty heated feud out of it. Well played! Cory Olson you definitely made chicken salad out of chicken... you get the picture! I like some chicken salad! Hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend!March 20, 2017 Card #501: Louisville Gardens1) “Pretty Boy” Larry Sharpe and “The Unpredictable” Johnny Rodz got their first win as a team in the opener over Robert Reed and Ken Raper. Reed and Raper looked like they might pull off an upset, as Reed capitalized on a missed falling head butt from Rodz. Raper tagged in but then was trapped in the ring for the remainder of the match. He fought valiantly but Rodz and Sharpe were ready for him. Rodz blasted Sharpe with roundhouse right hands and then tagged back to Sharpe. Sharpe immediately hit the piledriver and scored the pinfall after about 12 minutes of action. Sharpe and Rodz were proud of themselves for their first win as a team! * 2) Marty Jannetty made his USWA debut with a quick pinfall on George South. Jannetty was accompanied by his new tag team partner in the Uptown Boys, former Mid-America champion Tommy Rogers, and came out to “Living After Midnight” by Judas Priest. Jannetty got a big ovation from the Louisville fans and dazzled South with his fast-paced offense, including a big dropkick. South got back to his feet but Jannetty hit the Rocker Dropper (a standing leg drop to the mat, similar to Billy Gunn’s Famouser, named after his former tag team of the Midnight Rockers with Shawn Michaels). Jannetty covered South and scored the pinfall in about 90 seconds. Jannetty and Rogers high-fived after the match, as they look forward to teaming up for the first time next week in Jackson! DUD 3) Mr. Saito scored a big win and an impressive one with a pinfall on “Mr. USA” Tony Atlas. Saito used his superior wrestling skills to wear down the more powerful Atlas. He almost put Atlas out with a sleeper but Atlas powered his way to the ropes for a break. Saito maintained control and hit the Saito suplex about three minutes into the bout to score the pinfall. Sir Oliver Humperdink was very happy with the Japanese Olympian’s win! ¾* 4) Doctor X and Billy Black Lyons defeated “Dastardly” Danny Doring and The Amish RoadKill. The two-time former World Tag Team champions largely kept Doring in the ring for much of the match. Lyons worked on Doring’s leg for several minutes and went for the figure-four leglock but Doring kicked him off before he could fully apply the hold. Doring finally made the tag to “The Angry Amish Warrior.” RoadKill got control of Doctor X and Doring asked to be tagged back into the match. The “Dastardly One” had some offense against the masked man but took too much time celebrating and doing the Dastardly Shuffle! He finally went up to the top rope and came off with the Danaconda. X rolled out of the way and Doring landed hard. X seized the opportunity to cover Doring and score the pin after about 10 minutes and before RoadKill could make the save. X and Lyons were impressive tonight. Depending on the reign of Steve Williams and Terry Gordy, they may have to wait a while for another shot at the USWA World Tag Team titles! ** 5) Red Bastien scored a huge pinfall on two-time former Southern Heavyweight champion “Classy” Freddie Blassie! The flying redhead was gunning for a big win and was fired up against “The King of Men.” Blassie surprised Bastien with a stomach claw but Bastien fought for the ropes for a break. Bastien battled back and went for an abdominal stretch a few minutes later but Blassie also got to the ropes. Bastien tried for the stretch again but Blassie reached back and eye raked him. Bastien hit the airplane spin into the atomic drop, sending Blassie head-first into the turnbuckle and busting him open. Blassie kicked out of the pin attempt. Blassie took over and bit Bastien’s forehead. He hit the Southern neckbreaker and went for a pin but Bastien got a foot on the bottom rope for a break. “The Vampire” bit Bastien again and pounded away on Bastien, almost getting disqualified by Louisville’s own Joe Wheeler. Blassie taunted the crowd and took his time in trying to go for a pin. Blassie finally went for the Southern neckbreaker a second time. Bastien blocked it, got behind Blassie, and took him to the mat with a backslide. He held Blassie and got the pinfall after about 10 minutes! The Louisville Gardens fans exploded at Bastien’s big win! Blassie was outraged, as this was only his third pinfall loss in the USWA since his debut in June 2015! ****½ 6) Harley Race pinned Jake “The Milkman” Milliman. The former Southern champion outwrestled Milliman. He used a side backbreaker and then followed up with one of his specialties—the vertical suplex. He scored the pinfall on “The Milkman” after about four minutes. Jimmy Hart was very happy with Race’s win! DUD 7) The Patriot scored a great comeback win over The Dark Patriot in a match with two masked wrestlers and two wrestlers bleeding! The Dark Patriot was accompanied, as he often is, by both Sir Oliver Humperdink and “The Gamesmaster” Kevin Sullivan. Since this was Sullivan’s first appearance in the Gardens of the night, the fans berated him with boos after his heinous attack on the World Heavyweight champion last week in Memphis. The Patriot entered the arena to “Stars and Stripes Forever” and surprised the fans and his opponent by having Tommy Gilbert join him at ringside for this match! The fans went wild and Sullivan looked ready to flee! He stayed put and before the match began, cameras picked him up loading up the Dark Patriot’s mask. As the match began, Dark Patriot used his loaded head butt early, about two minutes into the bout. While the head butt hurt the Patriot, it also infuriated him, as he started to battle back. He hit the Patriot Missile early but Humperdink distracted Paul Morton. Gilbert ran over and threatened the manager! Patriot went for a second Missile a few moments later but Dark Patriot avoided the tackle and the Patriot crashed hard to the mat. Dark Patriot wore down his nemesis, using the loaded head butt three more times! Soon, the Patriot’s red, white, and blue mask was more red, as he had been busted open. Dark Patriot hit the Scud Missile and went for a cover but the Patriot kicked out. Dark Patriot hit another loaded head butt. He went up top again and came off with the Scud Missile again, but as he did to the Patriot earlier, the Patriot sidestepped the tackle and this time the “bogus” Patriot landed hard. The Patriot went up for another Missile and landed the attack. As he hit, both Patriots collided heads and now blood was coming out of the Dark Patriot’s mask. Patriot was slow to make a cover. He did but Sullivan put the Dark Patriot’s foot on the bottom rope to break up the pin attempt. While Morton didn’t see “The Gamesmaster’s” interference, Gilbert did and went after Sullivan! He clobbered him with fists and Sullivan retreated to the back! Gilbert initially went after him but then returned to ringside to keep an eye on Humperdink. Patriot followed up with another Missile and scored the pinfall after 11 minutes. The fans went wild for the Patriot’s hard-earned win! Gilbert indicated that he and the Patriot were going to remove the Dark Patriot’s mask. Before they could, Humperdink pulled his charge out of the ring and returned to the locker room! ****½ 8) Chris Candido and Dan “The Beast” Severn defeated Brad and Brian Armstrong via countout. This tag team match was originally scheduled to be the Armstrongs against The Heavenly Bodies but the neck injury to Dr. Tom Prichard in last week’s Stretcher Elimination Match against the Midnight Express changed that plan and Jim Cornette’s bodyguard stepped in to team with Candido again. As usual when he’s in the Louisville Gardens, Cornette was introduced as “Louisville’s own” but the fans were not happy to see him in his hometown! The Armstrongs double teamed Candido for the first few minutes. Severn tagged in and took Brian down with the waki gatame. “The Road Dogg” made the ropes for a break. Candido came back in and executed the Blonde Bomb. “The Suicide Blonde” gloated over hitting the move and taunted Brad. He finally made a cover but Brian kicked out. Candido hit a diving head butt and Brian rolled out of the ring for a breather. Brian was in a lot of pain. Cornette distracted fellow Louisvillian Joe Wheeler and got Brad’s attention as well. Severn got off the apron and pounded on Brian. Candido came out and joined him and the two hit a double suplex on the Gardens floor. Candido returned to the ring and Severn to the apron. Candido turned Wheeler’s attention to Brian on the floor and Wheeler began to count. Brad ran over to try and help his brother but it was too late, as Wheeler’s count hit 10 and he called for the bell, giving Cornette’s team the win after about six minutes of action! **½ 9) “The Gamesmaster” Kevin Sullivan scored a pinfall on “Superstar” Bill Dundee. The Aussie had the early advantage, fighting on behalf of his tag team partner World Heavyweight champion “Boogie Woogie Man” “Handsome” Jimmy Valiant. Dundee was aggressive against Sullivan but the Boston native took control outside of the ring. Sullivan hung Dundee upside down in the corner back inside the ring and hit the Tree of Woe twice in a row. He went for a cover but the “Superstar” kicked out. Sullivan hit the double foot stomp twice in a row and scored the pinfall in about five minutes. Sullivan was booed by fans as he got his hand raised. What will happens when battles the World champion again next week in Jackson in a non-title grudge match? *½ 10) The main event was for the USWA World Tag Team championship. The current and two-time champions Steve “Dr. Death” Williams and Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy put the titles on the line against Hillbilly Jim and Cousin Luke. The hillbillies were coming off of a huge win over two-time former champions Larry Zbyszko and Mr. Saito from a few weeks ago in Knoxville. The Louisville fans were split in their support for both teams here. Jim and Luke offered their hands in sportsmanship before the bout and the champions accepted. Luke and Williams started off the bout for their teams. Luke was aggressive and surprised Williams with the Hillbilly Drop about a minute into the bout. He went for a cover but Williams kicked out. Jim tagged in and went for an atomic drop but Williams flipped over Jim’s back and took him down from behind. He tagged to Gordy and then handed Jim up to “Bamm Bamm” for the Bamm Bamm slam. Gordy hit the move and made a cover but Jim managed to kick out at 2¾. The fans popped for this, thinking Jim was done! The champions seemed surprised as well. Gordy hit a second Bamm Bamm slam. Luke started to enter for a pin save but Williams entered too to stop him. Paul Morton saw “Doc” first and ordered him back to the corner. Luke took advantage to come in and stomp Gordy in the back of the head with his barefoot. He then pulled Gordy off and placed his own partner on top of him. Luke returned to the hillbillies’ corner, as Morton turned around to count. Gordy kicked out and the challengers trapped him in the ring for a few minutes. The fans were thinking they were about to see a title change but Gordy capitalized on a mistake by Luke and took control. He tagged to Williams, who outwrestled Luke. Williams tagged back in and the champions blasted Luke with a double football tackle. Gordy hit power bomb a moment later and scored the pin after about eight minutes of action, while Williams stopped an intervening Jim with a double leg takedown. As the champions got handed their belts and got their hands raised, they reached out to Jim and Luke and offered their hands. Jim and Luke naturally accepted and the fans cheered! The champions wished their opponents luck in the future and admitted that they were surprised by their toughness in this championship bout! **½

I've gone back and read a little further back than I had before. How do you come up with some of these matches and feuds? Do you have some kind of booking system you use or does it just come to you? Or are you channeling the great bookers of days gone by?

I've gone back and read a little further back than I had before. How do you come up with some of these matches and feuds? Do you have some kind of booking system you use or does it just come to you? Or are you channeling the great bookers of days gone by? In answer to your questions, Ric, yes. I don't know if I channel great bookers of the past but for the most part, I would say I do a more old school style of booking, where I try to build up big matches and feuds slowly. When I bring in new guys, I usually have an idea of what I'd like them to do in mind but of course, the dice can decide differently. Sometimes, I relive feuds that were real-life ones and sometimes I do feuds that seem like they would make for good matches. Other times, a feud springs up from one or two matches that are really good or have fun endings. (My Bill Dundee-Mad Dog Vachon feud lately is an example of that. I wasn't planning on that being more than a match or two but it's been a fun feud.) I try to have a long-term idea of feuds in mind but again, dice results can change that. I try to base title shots on win-loss records but I do find a lot of parity with the guys' records at times. So, I try to make good judgments and give title shots based on recent win streaks, upset wins, non-title wins over the champions, and other factors. Hope that helps. Thanks for reading!

Card #501 in Louisville was another solid night of USWA action. The Hillbillies really surprised with that tough tag title challenge against Doc & Gordy. It was great to see Jim and Luke put up that strong challenge along with earning it by beating Saito and Zbyszko in a big upset back in Knoxville. Red Bastien over Fred Blassie was also a big upset in my book.
I also loved The Patriot vs. Dark Patriot match with the unmasking tease at the end. Good to see Marty Jannetty in the territory, it will be interesting to see how he fares. Also how could you not love Larry Sharpe & Johnny Rodz over Robert Reed & Ken Raper? An epic battle of enhancement talent!

Thanks to Crue Fan for the comments!
Highlights of USWA Championship Wrestling from March 25: • Commissioner Bob Armstrong announced some big matches for the coming weeks. The main event for the April 17 card at the Municipal Auditorium in Nashville was made. Steve “Dr. Death” Williams and Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy will defend the USWA World Tag Team championship in a rematch from last month against The Midnight Express! The last time these two teams met, Jim Cornette, the Heavenly Bodies, and Dan “The Beast” Severn showed up in the Tupelo Sports Arena and interrupted the match almost immediately to get “Beautiful” Bobby Eaton and “Sweet” Stan Lane disqualified. The Midnights agreed to this title match on this date, knowing the importance of title shot, even though they might not be 100% after their Stretcher Elimination Match with the Bodies at the 500th card in Memphis, especially “Beautiful” Bobby Eaton. • “Bullet” Bob announced more matches for the April 10 card at the Rupp Arena in Lexington: o “Sweet” Stan Lane may not be at 100% but will be back in action. He will take on “The Suicide Blonde” Chris Candido in a singles bout! o In a first-time match between two powerhouses, King Kong Bundy will take on one-half of the World Tag Team champions Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy. These two met briefly in the 25-man Battle Royal at New Year’s Knockout XIII that Bundy won. Gordy at one point in the Battle Royal hit a back suplex on Bundy and nearly eliminated him but Bundy was saved by Big John Studd. Bundy is looking to get a decisive victory over “Bamm Bamm.” But a win for Gordy would be a big singles win on his record! o A first-time tag team match will see Brad and Brian Armstrong take on two-time former World Tag Team champions Doctor X and Billy Black Lyons! The Armstrongs have worked well together since joining together this past summer. X and Lyons are hoping to get a win, while they wait for Steve Williams and Terry Gordy to lose to the World Tag Team championships so they can get another title shot! o Another new wrestler will make his debut. “Sodbuster” Kenny Jay will join the USWA! Jay hails from Ohio and has competed in MAW (Midwest All-star Wrestling) in Minnesota and Midwest Pro Wrestling (MPW) in Iowa and is looking to make a name for himself in the USWA!
• It was also announced that the third annual Derby City Stampede will take place the night before the “Greatest Two Minutes in Sports”—the Kentucky Derby! That card will take place on Friday, May 5 at the Horse Show Pavilion in Louisville! Matches for this supercard will be announced in the coming weeks on USWA Championship Wrestling!
The USWA returns to Jackson, TN and the Oman Arena on March 27! • Ray “The Crippler” Stevens will battle once again with Tyler Black! Stevens is looking forward to another shot at the Mid-America title on April 10 in Lexington but first he will battle Black again. Black cost Stevens from winning the title two weeks ago when he interfered and got Luke Harper disqualified in the Triangle Match for the title. Black would love to get his first win on the two-time former Mid-America champion and possibly get another shot at the title in the future. Which rulebreaker will leave Jackson the winner? • “Superstar” Bill Dundee will collide again with Mad Dog Vachon! Dundee got the win on Mad Dog two weeks ago with Mad Dog’s brother Butcher Vachon as the special guest referee, leading to Mad Dog, Doctor X, and Billy Black Lyons kicking Butcher out of the group. The Algerian wants to get his first win over the Aussie. Will it happen this week? • Tommy Gilbert is on a quest to unmask The Dark Patriot. He will get a chance this week, when the two collide! Gilbert has stated he thinks he knows who the “bogus” Patriot is but he doesn’t want to announce it quite yet. Can Gilbert topple the Dark Patriot again and unmask him? • Another long-time rivalry will continue, as “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson will face Chris Candido! Danielson scored a countout win in their match in January in Lexington. Danielson also defeated Candido’s ally Southern Heavyweight champion “Exotic” Adrian Street by countout in their title match at the USWA 500th card two weeks ago. Danielson hopes to get a decisive win this week over Candido and earn a title rematch. But Candido is coming off an impressive win over the Midnight Express in the Stretcher Elimination Match (thanks in part to help from Jim Cornette and Dan “The Beast” Severn). Which former Texas champion will win in Jackson? • The World Heavyweight champion will be out for revenge, as “The Boogie Woogie Man” “Handsome” Jimmy Valiant will take on “The Gamesmaster” Kevin Sullivan in a non-title bout. Sullivan ambushed Valiant in their World title main event two weeks ago at the Mid-South Coliseum and got disqualified quickly for hanging Valiant over the ropes with his robe. He caused trachea damage to Valiant and the usual boisterous champion has not been able to cut a promo on Championship Wrestling. But you can bet that the World champion can still fight without a voice! Sullivan has called Valiant a “false hero” and has said that he will completely destroy Valiant, get another shot at the title, and win the World title. Will Sullivan’s prophesies come true or can “Boogie Woogie” gain revenge? • In the first of two championship matches, Luke Harper will put the USWA Mid-America Heavyweight title on the line against former champion David Taylor! Taylor got an impressive win against Colt Cabana in Memphis two weeks ago under World of Sport Rules, two falls to none. He also holds a victory over Harper at New Year’s Knockout XIII in Louisville. Harper has surprised wrestling experts by defeating Ray “The Crippler” Stevens twice via pinfall, winning the Mid-America title the second time. He hopes to avenge the loss to Taylor and retain the title, before another title defense against Stevens on April 10 in Lexington. Can the big Nebraskan hold on to the gold or will the British grappler become a two-time champion? • The main event will be a rematch for the USWA Southern Heavyweight title. Current champion “Exotic” Adrian Street, managed by Jim Cornette, will defend the title against two-time former champion “Classy” Freddie Blassie! Street ended Blassie’s 10-month reign in January by capturing the title in Chattanooga. Street has since “remade” the belt to match his charismatic and exotic tastes! Blassie wants to win back the gold. But he is coming off a big loss to Red Bastien last week Louisville, only his third loss in the USWA since he debuted in June 2015. Can Blassie bounce back and become a three-time Southern champion or will the “Exotic One” hold on to his “lovely” title belt?
All these huge match-ups, plus Harley Race, Brad and Brian Armstrong, and the first time teaming of The Uptown Boys—Tommy Rogers and Marty Jannetty!

Great match between the Patriots. Nice main event as well. Looking forward to Severn's new card and will be interesting to see how he'll perform with it in the USWA.

Thanks to Troy for the comments!March 27, 2017 Card #502: Oman Arena in Jackson, TN1) Brad and Brian Armstrong were victorious in the opener over “Pretty Boy” Larry Sharpe and “The Unpredictable” Johnny Rodz. Coming off their first win as a team last week in Louisville, Sharpe and Rodz were hoping to keep the momentum going. Rodz had the advantage against Brad and knocked him down with a clothesline to score a two-count. Sharpe tagged in but Brad rallied back and tagged to “The Road Dogg.” Brian hit the pump handle slam and went for the pin but Rodz made a save. Brad tagged back in a few minutes later and executed the Russian leg sweep to score the pinfall after about 10 minutes of action while Brian stopped Rodz from another save with a big right hand. The Jackson fans gave the Armstrongs a big ovation for their win! **½ 2) Harley Race defeated “The Anarchist” Arik Cannon by countout. Cannon surprised the former Southern champion and looked like he might score a huge upset. He reversed a whip into the turnbuckle and Race, crashed hard, flying up and over the ropes to the floor. Race returned to the ring and Cannon surprised him with a small package for a near fall. Cannon later hit the Glimmering Warlock but Race kicked out. Race battled back, slowed down the pace, and outwrestled Cannon. He knocked Cannon out of the ring with a knee smash. Race followed “The Anarchist” and hit the vertical suplex on the Oman Arena floor. He returned to the ring, as Sam Platania continued his count. His count hit 10 and Race was declared the winner after about 10 minutes of action. Despite it not being a decisive win, “The Mouth of The South” Jimmy Hart was very happy with Race’s victory! **½ 3) In a wild ending, “Superstar” Bill Dundee defeated Mad Dog Vachon by countout. Vachon ambushed Dundee at the bell before the Aussie could remove his ring robe. He pounded on Dundee for several minutes, hitting a Mad Dog Pounce. He hit the piledriver and went for a cover but Dundee kicked out. Dundee battled back but Vachon took control with some dirty tactics. Suddenly, Dundee’s tag team partner World Heavyweight champion “The Boogie Woogie Man” “Handsome” Jimmy Valiant appeared at ringside to a big pop and cheered on Dundee. Vachon worked over Dundee for a few minutes but the presence of the World champion caught his eye. Valiant taunted Vachon until the Algerian brawler went after the World champion on the outside! He pounded on Valiant, losing focus of Tommy Marlin’s count. Marlin hit 10 and called for the bell, awarding the bout to Dundee after six minutes! As soon as the decision was announced, “Handsome” Jimmy got to his feet and wailed away on Vachon. (He didn’t want to attack Vachon during the match and risk getting the “Superstar” disqualified.) Vachon retreated to the back and Valiant and Dundee celebrated another win over Vachon! *¾ 4) Ray “The Crippler” Stevens scored a tainted win over Tyler Black in what was overall an amazing match that went over 30 minutes! It looked like this would be a short bout, as Stevens dominated Black for the first few minutes and hit the Bombs Away and the piledriver early on. Black kicked out but was in trouble. Stevens maintained control for several minutes and went for another Bombs Away, but Black rolled out of the way and Stevens landed hard. Black went for a cover but the two-time former Mid-America champ kicked out. Black was on the offense and executed God’s Last Gift. Stevens kicked out at 2¾. Black whipped Stevens into the ropes and telegraphed a back body drop. Stevens stopped short and surprised Black with a double underhook suplex. Stevens went up to the top and delivered another Bombs Away. He followed up immediately with a second Bombs Away, which drew blood on Black. Stevens gloated about hitting the move and making Black bleed, taunting the Mid-America champ Luke Harper at ringside. Stevens finally made a cover but Black kicked out. A few moments later, Stevens tried for a neckbreaker but Black blocked the attempt, spun Stevens around, lifted him up, and delivered a thunderous buckle bomb. Both men were hurting but Black eventually made the cover, only to get a two-count. Black maintained control and hit the Phoenix Splash, landing right across the bridge of Stevens’ nose and now busting him open as well! Black was still hurting and finally made a cover but “The Mouth of The South” Jimmy Hart distracted Tom Branch, stopping the count. Harper ran over and chased Hart off the apron. Stevens regained control a few minutes later and went up top again. Black stumbled to his feet, bumped into the ropes, and crotched “The Crippler” on the top ropes. Black pulled Stevens off and made a cover but again Stevens kicked out. Black nailed Stevens with punches and kicks. Stevens was rocking and reeling but wouldn’t go down. Black nailed him with a stiff superkick and Stevens hit the mat. Black went for a cover but again Hart got up on the apron. Harper was there almost immediately to grab Hart by the legs. The megaphone went flying out of Hart’s hands and into the ring. Stevens grabbed it and concealed it. Black tried to get Branch’s attention but before he could, Stevens nailed him from behind with the megaphone and then tossed it out of the ring. With Black down on the mat, Stevens went up to the top rope just for good measure and hit another Bombs Away. Both men were battered and beaten but Stevens had enough strength to cover Black and score the pinfall. As Stevens and Hart celebrated the win, “The Crippler” indicated to Harper that the Mid-America title would soon be his again! (Whom will Stevens challenge on April 10? Read on!) ***** 5) A new tag team was successful in their first match together, as The Uptown Boys of Tommy Rogers and Marty Jannetty defeated “Dastardly” Danny Doring and The Amish RoadKill by countout. The Uptown Boys wore matching ring gear and came out to “Living After Midnight.” The new team worked very well together, double teaming Doring for several minutes. RoadKill finally tagged in and worked over Jannetty. He sent him into the corner and went for a running splash but Jannetty moved and “The Angry Amish Warrior” crashed hard. The Uptown Boys took over on RoadKill and double teamed him. Jannetty was the legal man when he knocked RoadKill over the top rope and to the floor with a big dropkick. Despite Doring’s help, RoadKill was not able to get back inside by Sam Platania’s 10-count, so the Uptown Boys were victorious in their first match together! **¼ 6) Tommy Gilbert defeated The Dark Patriot in a great match-up. Dark Patriot had Sir Oliver Humperdink in his corner tonight but not “The Gamesmaster” Kevin Sullivan. This was a wild, physical brawl between these two rivals. Dark Patriot gained the advantage a few minutes in and hit the Scud Missile but Gilbert kicked out at two. Gilbert battled back and hit the running knee lift for a two-count. Gilbert controlled the bout for a few minutes until he knocked his masked opponent out of the ring with an elbow smash to the head. Humperdink went to console the Dark Patriot and in doing so, handed him a foreign object. While Tommy Marlin warned Humperdink to stay out of the match, the Dark Patriot loaded up the mask. Gilbert pulled his opponent back up to the apron to bring him back in but Dark Patriot cut him off and blasted him with a loaded head butt. Dark Patriot was the aggressor now and scored near falls after a clothesline and a second Scud Missile. He head butted Gilbert a second time and Gilbert was soon wearing a mask of his own—a “crimson mask.” After a brawl outside the ring, Dark Patriot tossed Gilbert back inside the ring. The Dark Patriot got up on the apron and swung at Gilbert, who was on his feet. Gilbert ducked and brought his opponent back into the ring the hard way with a back suplex. Gilbert held on and bridged into a pinning combination but the Dark Patriot kicked out. Dark Patriot used the loaded head butt again a few minutes later to gain control. Marlin checked Gilbert’s cut and almost stopped the match but Gilbert ensured him he was fine. With the Jackson fans cheering, “Tommy! Tommy!”, the Gilbert patriarch rallied back. He nailed the Dark Patriot with some stiff punches and now blood could be seen coming out of the Dark Patriot’s mask. Gilbert hit a second back suplex and again went for a pin but again the “bogus” Patriot kicked out. Gilbert became focused on his mission of unmasking the Dark Patriot and started going after the mask, much to the fans’ delight! Dark Patriot fought hard to keep the mask on and was able to take advantage to gain control of the match. The two were on their feet slugging it out near the ropes. Gilbert gained control and went for the mask. He was able to reposition the mask slightly so that the Dark Patriot’s eyesight was thrown off, in addition to the blood loss. Dark Patriot stumbled around and Gilbert caught him with a body slam. He dropped down immediately into a cover and score the pinfall after 22 minutes of wild action! As Gilbert got his hand raised by Marlin, he attempted to go for the mask again but Humperdink had reached into the ring and pulled his charge out of the ring and to the back! **** 7) “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson scored a second countout win over Chris Candido. This was a fast-paced, hard-hitting match-up from the opening bell. Danielson got the advantage and got Candido down on the mat a few minutes into the bout. Danielson went up to the top but Candido recovered before Danielson could leap and crotched Danielson on the top ropes. He then climbed up and executed a top rope huracanrana. “Dragon” rolled out of the ring for a breather but didn’t get one as Candido immediately followed up with a baseball slide. Candido controlled the pace for a few minutes until Danielson surprised him with a series of roundhouse kicks. Danielson grabbed a dazed “Suicide Blonde” in the guillotine choke. Candido quickly scrambled for the ropes for a break. Danielson released but quickly took Candido back down to the mat with an armbar and then locked on the LeBell Lock in the middle of the ring. Candido had his feet near the ropes. He couldn’t get there himself but Jim Cornette was happy to reach in and pull the foot under the ropes. Tom Branch saw this and called for a break. Candido recovered about a minute later, surprising Danielson with a running neckbreaker. Candido went up top and came off with a diving head butt a few moments later. He tried for a pin but the two-time former World champion kicked out. Candido stopped a brief offensive flurry by Danielson with a knee to the midsection and then a snap suplex for another near fall. Candido tossed Danielson out of the ring and then got Branch’s attention. Dan “The Beast” Severn came over to attack Danielson but Danielson surprised him with roundhouse kicks to the legs. He then blasted Severn with a running knee strike, knocking down Cornette’s bodyguard. “Dragon” then returned to the ring apron. Candido went to attack but Danielson blocked him and then hit a suplex over the top rope and to the arena floor! Both men were down on the Oman Arena floor, as Branch began to count. Cornette was in shock but had enough wherewithal to try and get his man up. Danielson got up by six and was able to roll back into the ring by eight. Candido was not so lucky, as Branch hit 10. He called for the bell and awarded Danielson the win via countout after 14 minutes. While the fans and Danielson were happy he came out the winner, you can bet this feud isn’t over! ***¼ 8) “The Gamesmaster” Kevin Sullivan scored a shocking pinfall on World Heavyweight champion “Boogie Woogie Man” “Handsome” Jimmy Valiant in a non-title match. Valiant got a big ovation from the Jackson fans. As the World champion entered the ring, Sullivan charged him and ambushed him. Valiant seemed ready for him after their title match two weeks ago in Memphis. He knocked Sullivan down with a big haymaker and then choked him with his shin, perhaps trying to give Sullivan a trachea injury of his own. Sullivan was in pain but battled back. He pulled some type of object out of his robe, while Sir Oliver Humperdink momentarily distracted the World champion. Valiant turned around and Sullivan jammed the object into Valiant’s throat. “Boogie Woogie” writhed on the mat in pain but made his way to his feet. Sullivan blasted him with a running forearm for a near fall. “The Gamesmaster” continued to punish Valiant and then quickly followed up with the double foot stomp to score the pinfall in just about two-and-a-half minutes. The Jackson fans were stunned by the quick win! Sullivan grinned with a devilish look, as he got his hand raised. “Superstar” Bill Dundee, recovered from his earlier bout, came down to ringside to check on Valiant and help him to the back. DUD 9) In the first of two title matches on this card, Luke Harper defeated David Taylor by countout to retain the USWA Mid-America Heavyweight championship. This was a physical battle between these two. Taylor scored a near fall after Harper missed a running big boot into the corner and Taylor rolled him up with a school-boy. The champion battled back and hit a big boot to score a two-count. After slugging it out back-and-forth, Harper hit a second big boot, which sent Taylor backwards over the top rope and to the floor. Tommy Marlin put the count on Taylor and he was unable to return to the ring. Harper was declared the winner and champion after eight minutes of action. Harper looked ready to defend against Ray “The Crippler” Stevens on April 10 in Lexington! *¼ 10) The main event was a rematch for the USWA Southern Heavyweight championship. Current champion “Exotic” Adrian Street put the title on the line against two-time former champion “Classy” Freddie Blassie. Street ended Blassie’s 10-month second reign in January in Chattanooga and had only suffered one decisive loss in the USWA since his debut at Independence Day Bash 2016. Blassie entered this match wanting to become a three-time champion but also coming off only his third decisive loss ever in the USWA, with a pinfall loss to Red Bastien last week in Louisville. The champion was aggressive at the start, wanting to retain the Southern title. He hit a neckbreaker early in the bout and followed up with an elbow drop for a near fall. Street stayed in control and caught Blassie with the crucifix for a two-count. The “Exotic One” attempted a suplex but the challenger blocked it, broke free, got Street down on the mat, and hit multiple knee drops. Blassie knocked Street into the ropes and bent over for a backdrop but telegraphed the attempt and Street surprised him with a sunset flip for another near fall. Street successfully suplexed “The King of Men” and hit a running big splash, landing across Blassie’s face and busting him open. The Southern champion went for another cover but again “Classy” Freddie kicked out. Blassie reversed a whip into the buckle and nailed Street with a big boot to the midsection. He then whipped Street to the mat and followed up with multiple knee drops again. He covered Street but the champion kicked out. Blassie took control until Street dodged an attack and hit a second neckbreaker for another near fall. Street hit another elbow drop. Blassie was hurt but got to his feet. Street surprised him from behind with another crucifix. He put Blassie’s shoulders to the mat for the three-count and got the win to retain the Southern title after eight minutes. It was an impressive win for the “Exotic One” and Jim Cornette was very happy with the win! ***

There were count outs aplenty in Jackson on what was a really entertaining show. I would have to classify Street over Blassie as an upset but credit Exotic Adrian for retaining the title. Very cool to see Kevin Sullivan score that non-title win over Jimmy Valiant. I imagine Sullivan will get a title shot soon and that should be a wild one.
