Thanks to Troy, Booker Bill, and Neilybob for the comments!
Highlights from USWA Championship Wrestling on February 16: • Commissioner Teddy Long announced that the next USWA World Tag Team championship match will be one-half of a double main event on March 11 at the Rupp Arena in Lexington! Already announced as the other main event is Bryan Danielson returning from suspension to defend the USWA Southern Heavyweight title against Mad Dog Vachon. The first main event will see Ray “The Crippler” Stevens and Greg “The Hammer” Valentine put the titles on the line against The Fantastics! This will be Tommy Rogers and Bobby Fulton’s first shot at the titles. Rogers and Stevens battled over the Mid-America Heavyweight championship back in 2016 and are no strangers to each other! • One week before they challenge for the World Tag Team titles, The Fantastics will face their rivals John and Chris Tolos at the Municipal Auditorium in Nashville! • Also announced for the Lexington card will be the return to action of The Patriot! The masked American will be seeking revenge on his fellow masked man—Doctor X! X and his three allies attacked the Patriot’s knee last month in Chattanooga, right before the Patriot challenged “Wildfire” Tommy Rich for the World Heavyweight title at the Mid-South Coliseum. The Patriot fought a hard match against the champ but the knee injury kept him from winning his third title. You can bet the Patriot will be enraged going into this bout!
The USWA returns to the Tupelo Sports Arena on February 18! After some shake-ups to the original line-up, the faithful Tupelo fans will see a great card of action! • In a huge first-time tag team meeting, the former World Tag Team champions The Heavenly Bodies will take on the next challengers for those belts—The Fantastics! Give Tommy Rogers and Bobby Fulton credit for not taking it easy in the weeks leading up to their championship bout on March 11 in Lexington against Ray Stevens and Greg Valentine. This popular duo has taken the South by storm. But they cannot underestimate “The Doctor of Desire” Tom Prichard and “The Suicide Blonde” Chris Candido, who showcase great double teaming skills. Plus, with Jim Cornette and his bodyguard Mr. Hughes to “support” them, they are a dangerous duo. Who will leave Tupelo the winners? • Mad Dog Vachon was originally scheduled to challenge “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson for the USWA Southern Heavyweight championship in the main event of this card. But Danielson’s suspension changed that plan. Vachon will now do battle with “The Man with The Cast Iron Stomach” Pepper Gomez! A decisive win will mean a lot to both of these combatants in their quest for singles gold! • The World Tag Team champions will be in non-title action, when Ray “The Crippler” Stevens and Greg “The Hammer” Valentine take on Eddie and Doug Gilbert in a grudge match! The Gilberts gave Stevens a spike piledriver a few weeks ago in Chattanooga and the First Family of Wrestling team is looking to avenge that. But the Gilberts are hoping for a win over the champs to earn a future shot at the gold. Will it be the Gilbert family or the First Family to emerge victorious? • “The Fabulous” Jackie Fargo will make his first defense of the USWA Mid-America Heavyweight title when he faces former Southern Heavyweight champion “Exotic” Adrian Street! Street would love to add the Mid-America title to his accolades and who knows how he would dress up after what he did to the Southern title in 2017?! But Fargo fought long and hard for the Mid-America crown and won’t go down without a fight. Fargo’s brawling skills often bring him the win, while Street relies on his British style, in addition to Jim Cornette and Mr. Hughes! Can the “Exotic One” win the Mid-America gold or will Fargo strut out of Tupelo with the title? • A huge replacement main event for the originally-scheduled Southern title bout, will see World Heavyweight champion “Wildfire” Tommy Rich team up with “Superstar” Bill Dundee to take on the First Family of Wrestling’s combination of three-time former World champion Harley Race and King Kong Bundy! This will be Rich and Race’s first time against each other in a match since New Year’s Knockout XV in Lexington, when Rich captured the gold. And it also comes two weeks before their title rematch in Nashville. Dundee and Bundy have a long history against each other as well. You can bet that Jimmy Hart’s gameplan will be to focus on hurting “Wildfire” prior to Race’s rematch with him. Can the First Family achieve their goal or will the popular duo of “Wildfire” and the “Superstar” stop them?
All these huge bouts, plus “Handsome” Jimmy Valiant and The Masked Superstar in action, as well as the singles return of Dan “The Beast” Severn, and the debut of Keith Steinborn!
