Pariah - With Affluence seemingly all on the same page, they may be an unstoppable force. You are about to see more of their united front right here.
cruefan68 - I'm not sure how often I'll have Women of Honor matches but I wanted to at least put them on the main card, so to speak. Briscoe Burgers... Yeah... About that tag team house rule I was thinking of trying? Probably should have used it here.
A surprise awaited the fans in the Hammerstein Ballroom at the opening of the show. Caprice Coleman was in the ring awaiting his opponent when out came the man who hospitalized Truth Martini and was haunting Donovan Dijak. Caprice maintained his composure but he wore doubt on his face as the sinister figure stepped over the top rope. Kevin Kelly and Steve Corino were on commentary discussing the situation.
“This man’s name is Damien Martinez," Kevin stated. “And yes, he has a Ring of Honor contract.”
“What?!” was Steve’s reply. “That’s news to me.”
“It was to me as well. Nobody knows where he’s come from or why he’s here. All we know is that Truth Martini may never walk again after the vicious attack this man perpetrated on him at 15th Anniversary. And it also appears he has his sights set on the #1 contender, Donovan Dijak.”
“I smell Affluence all over this.”
“I don’t know, Steve. This seems to be something much darker than that.”
Damien Martinez def. Caprice Coleman by count out
Martinez came at Coleman with forearms and a spinning heel kick before crushing him into the mat with a curb stomp. Rather than take the fall, Damien pulled Caprice up before the ref could finish his count. Martinez hammered Coleman with more devastating moves including South of Heaven, a sit out choke slam. Again, he denied Coleman an end to his suffering. Instead, he brought Caprice out to the apron and like he did to Truth Martini, he drove Coleman through the timekeeper’s table with South of Heaven. Damien left Coleman in the debris as the ref counted him out of the ring.
Donovan Dijak ran out to confront Martinez but was mobbed by security as Damien just stood in the center of the ring with a wicked smile. The dark figure then departed through the crowd as Dijak was restrained.
Dijak watched as Caprice was hauled off. He was frustrated and beside himself. He got on the mic and tried to start to speaking more than once but was at a loss for words. Finally, he spit out an unexpected name. “Chris Sabin! Chris Sabin, get out here!”
After a short wait, Sabin stepped through the curtain, wearing a wary expression. He cautiously got into the ring, not sure what the enraged Dijak wanted.
“Sabin, what the hell are you doing?”
Chris’ expression turned to confusion.
“Why aren’t you out here helping me? Truth was your manager too. You should be helping me get payback.”
Chris looked incredulous. “What do you want me to do? It’s not my problem.”
Dijak couldn’t believe what he was hearing. “You’re a real mercenary piece of s**t, aren’t you?”
Sabin smiled and gave one of his customary shrugs, which only riled Dijak up more.
“You know what? Fine. You and me? We’re not teammates.”
Sabin shook his head with a smart ass grin.
“And since that sonovab***h won’t fight me, you’ve just been elected. Nigel McGuinness, I know you can hear me. I want this little weasel tonight!”
Sabin jumped out of the ring. “No way.”
Dijak hollered, getting the crowd behind him. He wanted to smash someone and they wanted to see it.
War Machine def. All Night Express by pin
Despite Raymond Rowe and Hanson using their size to their advantage, it was the teamwork of ANX that shined in this one. Rhett Titus and Kenny King racked up the pin attempts but in the end it was Hanson crushing King with a corner lariat for the pin.
Lio Rush def. Dalton Castle by pin
Before the match, Castle propositioned the ROH World Television Champion about being one of his Boys. Lio was weirded out by the request and declined. Rush was not shaken by Dalton’s behavior as he soared to victory in under two minutes with the Dragon’s Call.
The New York fans were treated to a special live edition of the Fish Tank with ROH World Tag Team Champions, Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly - reDRagon. Bobby and Kyle greeted the fans and made smarmy small talk before Fish got to the heart of the matter.
“Kyle, it’s a shame that we’re in this great venue - I mean it’s the legendary Hammerstein Ballroom! - and we don’t have great opponents to defend these tag team titles against.”
“It’s a damn shame, Bobby.”
“So, I guess these fans don’t get to see an ROH World Tag Team Championship match tonight…”
The crowd jeered and Bobby put his hands up, shaking his head.
“There’s nothing to be done, New York. It looks like you got the stinky end of the stick.”
Music played and the crowd popped as the Young Bucks came out. Bobby looked at Kyle with a questioning look.
“I didn’t know we had guests tonight. Did you invite them?”
“That would be a ‘hell no’, Bobby. These two aren’t Fish Tank caliber guests.”
“My thoughts exactly, Kyle. My thoughts exactly. So Matt and Nick Jackson… What is it we can do for you? We’re trying to do a show here.”
The Bucks went on to claim that they should get a rematch with reDRagon because the last time they wrestled, Matt and Nick were suffering from jet lag after a long flight from Japan. The crowd supported the statement but Bobby and Kyle weren’t feeling it. The fans let them know that this was unacceptable and reDRagon agreed to face the Bucks later in the night - but the titles would not be on the line. Matt and Nick took what they could get and got the crowd fired up with Too Sweets and Suck Its and superkicks at the camera.
“There will be no ‘sucking it’ in the Fish Tank,” Bobby protested. The Bucks ignored it as they continued to play to the crowd.
Chris Sabin def. Donovan Dijak by pin
Under protest, Sabin stepped into the ring against his former House of Truth stablemate. Chris overcame the size disparity at first by using his speed advantage. However, his offense was not too effective. Dijak smacked Sabin around for a bit but seemed distracted, frequently taking time to look into the crowd for Damien Martinez. Sabin used these openings to start chipping away at the big man on his way to a clean pin with Cradle Shock.
TAG WARS MATCH
Two Fisted (Adam Page, Silas Young & Joey Daddiego) def. Briscoe Burgers (Jay & Mark Briscoe and Cheeseburger) by pin
This Tag Wars tournament match had a little extra spice to it with feuding Jay Briscoe/Silas Young and Cheeseburger/Joey Daddiego in opposite corners. Two Fisted isolated Cheeseburger and destroyed him. Silas fed the Burger to Daddiego who finished his rival with a Death Valley Driver. The Briscoes went without seeing action, leaving them and the fans unhappy.
reDRagon def. Young Bucks by submission
Matt Jackson took a major league ass-kicking at the hands of Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly. reDRagon dominated with Matt getting in the occasional shot or two. The only action Nick saw was saving his brother after he took his second Chasing the Dragon of the night. O’Reilly used Armageddon to end the Jackson’s run at the titles. With the upstart Bucks now behind them, reDRagon awaited their next challenge. Which could be the winners of the main event tonight.
Jay Lethal def. ACH by referee stoppage
Tonight, Lethal was playing gatekeeper to the ROH title held by Affluence teammate Adam Cole. Lethal started out by knee clipping ACH twice before slapping on a figure four leg lock. ACH struggled in the hold but was able to escape, only to wind up in a Koji Clutch. Lethal held the submission for a few minutes. ACH would not submit and succumbed to unconsciousness as Lethal slammed the gate shut on him.
Adam Cole & Matt Taven def. The Addiction by pin
The showdown between these two teams has been building for months now. Cole and Taven have held sway but The Addiction were determined to get payback for being kicked out of Affluence, a group they helped create. Taven opened up with a couple of eye rakes, a spin kick, and the Climax and Kazarian was in trouble early. Cole tagged in and drilled Kaz with a superkick to the back of the head and made the cover. Christopher Daniels rushed in to make the save and pretty soon all four man were brawling with the ref struggling to get the match under control. Florida Key by Cole for a two count before Taven made his way back in. Kazarian managed to reverse and tag in Daniels. “The Fallen Angel” began cleaning house but went to the top rope one too many times as Taven caught him with a spinning crescent kick on the way down. Cole tagged back in and took it home with the Florida Key.
After the bell, Jay Lethal came out and hit Daniels and Kazarian each with a Lethal Injection. Affluence headed to the back but before they could get through the curtain, Daniels got on the mic and told Lethal he had been smart to stay out of this until now and that now he would face the consequences along with Taven and Cole. Lethal got fired up and had to be held back by his teammates. “There’s nothing you can do” Cole shouted to The Addiction. “You’ve got nothing. Because we’ve got it all. It’s called Affluence Bay-Bay!”
