Historically, the NWA/WCW called their title the "World Television Champion," though their belt actually said "Television Heavyweight Wrestling Championship." Of course "Heavyweight" is sort of a meaningless term nowadays, especially in the indies.
Maybe they thought calling it a "World Television" title would suggest that they have a strong, worldwide television presence. It certainly sounds better than the "Television Championship of the 80,000 people that watch us in our crappy time slot."*
* Note: That is NOT a knock on ROH. Heck, last I heard, in their crappy time slot they were drawing as many viewers as TNA in primetime. Which is also a shame, but off topic.
