Here in Las Vegas, the Wranglers (a AA team) are not getting their lease renewed at the Orleans Arena so they are building a new hockey stadium seating 3,500 on top of the roof of the newly renovated Plaza hotel and casino at the start of the downtown Fremont Street Experience. The new rooftop arena will be ready later this year for the start of the 2014-15 hockey season. www.reviewjournal.com/business/economy/zamboni-roof-must-be-las-vegas-plazaI stayed at the Plaza on the Friday night of Thanksgiving weekend 2012 and it is now a really nice hotel but still at downtown prices (no more than $50 for a room.) Although I do not go to as many Wranglers games (I have only been to one so far this season- back in October) as Las Vegas 51s baseball games (I went to about 5-6 last year) or UNLV basketball games, I will definitely go to some Wranglers games at their place on the roof of the Plaza (and possibly stay at the Plaza again too, especially for some of the Wranglers Midnight games.) Now if only the Las Vegas 51s could get their badly-needed new baseball stadium built this quickly (but the new baseball stadium obviously won't fit on one of the roofs of the casinos, I am hoping they put it on the vacant land the owners want next tot he Red Rock casino so I can walk to the games.)

I stayed in the Plaza a few years ago and it was a pretty nice hotel. Plus did they get the hockey on the roof idea from the movie Clerks?

I am not sure if they got it from the movie Clerks, but Hockey on the roof is definitely something I am looking forward to!

Also, once this rooftop stadium is completed, I think my Las Vegas based Ring of Vegas (ROV) fed needs to have some show there. ROV on the Roof!

Dante and Randall must be psyched! Glad to see I wasn't the only one thinking of "Clerks".

unfortunately hockey on the roof of the Plaza Casino will not be happening after all instead the Las Vegas Wranglers are building a larger arena in the Plaza's parking lot because the proposed rooftop structure would only seat 3,500 and the Wranglers average about 4,600 fans per game
