Eastern/Extreme Championship Wrestling failed to take off after breaking away from the National Wrestling Alliance in 1994. Frank Gotch took the stage and beat Shane Douglas for the ECW Championship, quickly renaming the title the RAW American Wrestling Championship. |

Danny Hodge d. Chris Candido Candido and Hodge put on a match that would be hard as hell to beat, much less follow. The match kept going back and forth, though neither man would stay down. Hodge did his best to stay standing, while Candido found himself constantly grounded. But, Candido kicked out of five pin falls! However, he eventually found himself on the wrong side of an OKLAHOMA SIDE ROLL!
Red Bastien d. Steve Corino Steve Corino must have not expected such a strong offence from Red Bastien because Corino never got a get fight in. Red Bastien dominated Steve Corino, quickly finishing him off with a Boston Crab. Corino had a few foul words to say to the fans and Red Bastien, but Red Bastien kicked Corino out of the ring, causing Corino to stumble in shame to the back.
Giant Baba d. Rikidozan Rikidozan didn't perform too well against his much bigger friend; he was constantly holding his stomach. Rikidozan simply found himself manhandled by the creator of the Baba Chop. The match ended quickly with the NECKBREAKER DROP. After the match, with microphone in hand, Rikidozan spoke the best English he could possible speak: "Tonight. Rikidozan. Ill." Baba shook Rikidozan's hand and helped him to the back.
Antonino Rocca d. Gorgeous George Antonino Rocca toyed with Gorgeous George throughout the match. Rocca even put his feet in Cherie Dupre's face. George was too bothered by Rocca's fighting style to concentrate. In the end, after a botched interference by Dupre, Rocca finished George off with the ARGENTINE BACKBREAKER!
Frank Gotch d. The Sheik Frank Gotch never let The Sheik get on the offensive. He constantly had a ground attack every move. The Sheik was obviously getting irritated, but his irritation landed him in a GOTCH TOEHOLD. Amazingly, The Sheik managed to get to the ropes. However, Gotch got him right back in the GOTCH TOEHOLD for the victory! The crowd went wild as Gotch raised his title in the air. The Sheik blindsided Gotch with a chair and the show ended.

RAW Report 09.27.1994
Welcome, RAW fans and wrestling enthusiasts! The first RAW show is in the history books. We saw great wrestling action between Danny Hodge and Chris Candido, but it was Hodge who picked up the win after his signature OKLAHOMA SIDE ROLL. Let's go backstage and see what these two men had to say after their match, or what they didn't really care to say.
HODGE: Candido, though we don't always see eye to eye on things, you really pushed me to my limit tonight. I look forward to another match with him. Maybe in the near future, the great fans of RAW will get to witness another stellar match between the two of us!
CANDIDO: Hodge got lucky. That's all I got to say.
Now, fans, let's go and see what Red Bastien and Steve Corino had to say.
BASTIEN: I trained hard for my match against Steve. I expected a lot out of him, but apparently he didn't expect the same from me. It guess it goes to show you that "every dog has his day." Truthfully, I'm tired of being viewed as this "underdog of professional wrestling." I believe I made a solid statement tonight!
CORINO: It blows my mind that fans cheered on such a dud. I should have been the winner of this damn match, but Bastien didn't play by the books. He attacked me before the bell! Red, you better be looking behind your back at all times. I'm not done with you yet!
Rikidozan and Giant Baba failed to make any further comments on their match due to a scheduled flight back to Japan, but nobody can knock the true competitiveness and friendship these two legends have for one another. RAW has high hopes to place these two men back together in the ring., and the strong style of puroresu seems to be a mainstay here in RAW!
Moreover, I just got news that Gorgeous George and Cherie Dupre are backstage!
GEORGE: I have never been so humiliated in my entire career. The ape had the nerve to put his nasty feet in not only my face but in the lovely Cherie Dupre's face as well. I'd fight back, but I'm afraid of the disease I may pick up fighting such a wild beast. RAW should screen these animals before they're allowed to compete. Get this camera out of my face, I need to go shower before his filth sinks into my pores!
Fans, this is the moment you've all be waiting for... Frank Gotch!
GOTCH: The Sheik is truly a mad man. I'm surprised I didn't find myself on the wrong side of a FIRE BALL! However, I excelled in keeping my opponent grounded, and I don't think anyone will be taking this title off my waist for a long time. I'll be going toe-to-toe with Ox Baker next week in a non-title match. I just hope I can keep my record going... and that I stay clear of Ox's nasty HEART PUNCH!
Tune in next week, fans!
