If Las Vegas gets an NHL team which could very well happen as the stadium is getting built and the NHL approved season ticket deposit test was a success, it sounds like the new Las Vegas NHL team might be called the Black Aces.
Do you like the name or don't like the name Black Aces?

Why not drop the Black part and just call the team the Aces?
Back in high school my friends and I created an 8 team league with Las Vegas entering the League as the Gamblers

Why not drop the Black part and just call the team the Aces? I think because in some games of chance the black ace is considered the "death card?"

That is understandable, but in the uber PC world we live in now, how do you think a name like the "Black Aces" would be taken by the world at large.
As much I like the name I can see it getting a LOT of backlash from idiot PC groups. Plus with just using the ACES name the team logo could look like a poker hand and the should logo could be split in half with 2 Aces on each shoulder.

In the NFL, I do think the name Redskins is a blatantly offensive name. However, for the name Black Aces for a Las Vegas hockey team, I really don't know why it would be an issue with PC groups since it has absolutely nothing to do with race as in a deck of cards there are red Aces and black Aces (the death cards) which should be common knowledge to anybody who has ever played any type of card game. Nobody gets upset about the term Black Friday which is the largest shopping day of the year after Thanksgiving. I am not sure why this would be different.

Very true. Like I said I like the name. Guess we will have to wait and see how the logo looks, same as the Jersey's. If they can tie everything together extremely well I am sure the name will the be the furthest thing from everyone's mind.
I am also really interested in how the salary cap will play into the dispersal draft for the Vegas team.
Also, hopefully the League doesn't decide to wait on Seattle, Quebec or wherever else they are considering expansion or relocation to get their team/stadium off the ground. With the success of the ticket drive I would like to see the NHL jump on that momentum as soon as possible. The longer they wait it may effect the desire for the team.
On a side note I did read that the new Quebec arena is nearing completion, but I see them getting a relocated franchise more than an expansion one. Right now either Florida or Tampa Bay relocating there in the next few years. Florida more than Tampa at this point and maybe moving just one of the Florida teams will strengthen the other.
Finally, getting back to the Vegas expansion team. I really hope that they can become competitive very quickly as that will only help them in the long run.
Here is a question for you, as I haven't been able to find the answer. Have they mentioned which division the Vegas team would end up in? At the moment I can see them entering both the Central and the Pacific, but I can only see a Seattle team fitting into the Pacific division.

Good question, it probably does depend on who else would be getting added to the NHL. It would be more appropriate for a Las Vegas team to be in the Pacific as the city is located only a tank of gas away from Phoenix, Los Angeles, and Anaheim. But if the other team is Seattle, then perhaps Las Vegas gets placed in the Central.

You put Vegas in the Pacific, move Columbus to the Central, and either put Quebec City in the Metro or move Detroit or Boston to the Metro and put QC in the Atlantic with natural rival Montreal.

From what I understand, the name the Black Aces will not be approved by the NHL because of its association with gambling. Instead the team would be named the Black Knights (due to team owner Foley's time in the Marines.) Bring on the Las Vegas Black Knights!
