I just got back from seeing this show tonight. Because I really don't like the food served inside the Sam's Town Live venue, I instead went to the Subway inside the casino before the show. As soon as I took my seat, in walked Mark Briscoe who was there to get sandwiches for him and Jay. The Subway counter clerk sort of freaked out when she saw Mark Briscoe walk in and their interaction together was hilarious.
Before the show, I went through the autograph line and I got my new Jay Lethal card signed and my Austin Aries ROH card signed. I also got good pictures with them too which I will probably post tomorrow. While in the autograph line, I also got to talk to the Young Bucks again and they told me they are really looking forward to their new cards getting released. While in that line I also got to talk to the SMOKING HOT Thea Trinidad (aka the former TNA Knockout Rosita- if you can believe it she is even better looking in person than she was on TNA TV!)
Sam's Town as a venue is just so much better IMO than the Orlean's Ballroom where ROH had their Anniversary PPV earlier this year. I was worried there would not be many people there tonight (I saw earlier today that none of the premium priced rows had been sold out yet after they added some front row seats) but the place was PACKED and there were people having to stand in the back. I was glad to see that because it makes it more likely ROH will return to Las Vegas again.
I sat front row (I try to at Indy shows because I am too short to sit too far back) and these are the results (if you want them, if you are waiting for the VOD then you of course may not want to read any further:)
In the preshow match, Will Ferrara defeated the Romantic Touch
The show started off with Austin Aries accompanied by Thea Trinidad. Aries said when he left ROH it was because he had some issues with some people at the time trying to take ROH away from its roots (someone in the crowd yelled out "Cornette") but those people are gone now and he is back in ROH to stay.
the opening round ROH Television Championship #1 Contender's Tournament matches Bobby Fish defeated Matt Taven
Christopher Daniels defeated Mark Briscoe (thanks to interference from Frankie Kazarian)
ACH defeated Frankie Kazarian
Nanae Takahashi defeated ODB in perhaps the best women's match I have ever seen live.
Roppongi Vice defeated the Young Bucks. I liked this match, but IMO it really was not quite up to the level of match the Bucks tend to have at PWG.
After Intermission, Silas Young defeated Willie Mack. Since Willie Mack is local (living in Las Vegas and wrestling here for FSW,) he got a great reaction from the crowd and this was his first-ever ROH match. In addition to Willie Mack, Kenny King from Las Vegas was at this show as was current FSW Champion Brian Cage. Before the match started, Silas Young got really mad because somebody in the crowd threw a pink streamer at "the last real man" which I thought was funny.
Maria's announcement tonight was that her ROH contract expires in December and by then she plans to sign someone to the Kingdom who is capable of winning the ROH World Championship (the December reference makes me think this is a setup for Final Battle) and Adam Cole got upset at Maria's announcement.
War Machine defeated The Kingdom's Adam Cole and Michael Bennett
The 3 way ROH Television Championship #1 Contender's Tournament Finals elimination match- Daniels pinned ACH after Best Moonsault Ever
- Fish made Daniels submit to become the new #1 contender to the ROH Television Championship (perhaps Fish vs Lethal for the ROH Television Championship next Friday at Death Before Dishonor?)
Vegas Wild Card Main EventJay Briscoe, Dalton Castle, and Kyle O'Reilly defeated ROH World Champion and TV Champion Jay Lethal, Moose, and Austin Aries
- during this match, Lethal and Aries kept arguing with each other and making each other mad by making blind tags on the other. This match ended with Lethal giving suicide dives to Briscoe, Moose, and then to his own tag team partner Aries before returning to the ring where he was forced to tap out to O'Reilly
- What a great night in Las Vegas for reDRagon, Bobby Fish wins the ROH Television Championship #1 Contender's Tournament and Kyle O'Reilly makes the ROH World Champion and TV Champion tap out!
- after the show, I stayed around in the lobby and I got the following copies of my cards signed: Steve Corino, Raymond Rowe, Hanson, Truth Martini, Silas Young, and the updated Bobby Fish (he signed my copy of his first ROH card last year at PWG.) It was especially great talking to War Machine and Truth Martini (I am a big Truth Martini fan and I told him that and he then asked to autograph the card to me personally and then he even wrote "Hoopla!" on it too.) I forgot to bring my Matt Taven card though which was unfortunate because I did see him too after the show.
Afterward I went to a casino bar to get my free beer (you just had to give them your ticket afterward, it would have been against my DNA to pass up free alcohol on a Friday night) and then I went home. I am so used to driving almost 5 hours each way (often in the same day) to see PWG so it is was so great to be able to see ROH in my hometown Las Vegas.
