Card No. 4, Late Feb. 2087
Shane Matthews vs. Invincible Krakan
Krakan was not impressed with Matthews in his GWF debut, and was perhaps looking ahead to his opening-round match with the Executioner for the Universal Title.
Though Krakan was caught sleeping with a sunset flip late in the match, this match was all Krakan, as Shane Matthews seemed ineffective at times against the more powerful Krakan. Before the newcomer could steal a victory, though, Krakan dispatched Matthews with a backwards leg-sweep not long after kicking out of the sunset flip to end the match.
RESULT: Krakan def. Shane Matthews via backward leg-sweep (Matthews +2, Krakan +1)
Actagon/Proteus vs. Beast-Rider/Renegade
The Cinderella story of Beast-Rider/Renegade after upsetting the Gladiators continued as Actagon was overwhelmed by Renegade’s initial flurry! Renegade was a good match for Actagon’s agile offense, and Renegade was able to lock in the SPINECRACKER early but Actagon used his ground-wrestling prowess to easily make the ropes.
Actagon’s attempts at tagging out to Proteus were continuously cut off by Renegade, and even Beast-Rider was amazed at his tag team partner’s ability to completely cut the ring off in half against the Greek Gods. A double knee lift sent Actagon to the outside, and though Proteus tried to calm his Greek God teammate down, when Renegade came out to grab Actagon and finish him off, Actagon got his hands on a steel chair and cracked Renegade in the skull for the disqualification!
RESULT: Renegade/Beast-Rider def. Actagon/Proteus via disqualification (Actagon used steel chair)
This uncharacteristic move by Actagon elicited gasps from the GWF Universe as Proteus backed Actagon away from Renegade when Beast-Rider came over to confront Actagon. The two teams had a brief standoff as Beast-Rider checked on Renegade, and the rage and frustration faded from Actagon’s eyes and he realized what he had done.
Suddenly, on the holo-screen, a Chamber of Wisdom spokesperson appeared and announced that a one-night only tournament would be held on the same night as the finals of the GWF Universal Title tournament to decide the new GWF Universal Tag Team Champions!
The four teams would be Beast-Rider/Renegade, Actagon/Proteus, Brute/Massacre and Killer Queen/Vanity and the tournament would kick off with Beast-Rider/Renegade vs. Actagon/Proteus in a first-round matchup! Actagon nodded with approval and, feeling a hint of regret, went to go check on Renegade, but Beast-Rider shoved Actagon away and threatened to give him a BULLDOG RIDE if he tried that again. The two teams again stared each other down and exchanged words before Beast-Rider took Renegade to get checked out by medical personnel.
Wolf vs. Death Knight
Two wrestlers that had suffered embarrassing defeats in recent cards clashed here. It was also a preview of the tournament at GWF Rise of the Heroes.
Wolf had control early on but Death Knight was able to turn the tide on the outside, hitting Wolf with a loaded glove and bringing him into the ring to hit the Death Ride, but Wolf would not stay down! Death Knight got desperate and went to the top rope for an ill-advised deathjump. Sure enough, Wolf was playing possum and sprung up to the top turnbuckle for a superplex that took Death Knight down. Wolf immediately locked on the SAVAGE FACE CLAW, finding just the right spots around Death Knight's mask to sink his paw into. Death Knight quickly submitted to end the match before matters got out of hand, living to fight another day and perhaps try to upset Wolf once the tournament began.
RESULT: Wolf def. Death Knight with the SAVAGE FACE CLAW (Death Knight +3, Wolf +1)
Wolf knew that Death Knight had given up too easily but was confident he wouldn't need to work hard to dispatch the clumsy Evil One again, keeping a laser focus on perhaps getting his revenge against Thantos in the finals of the Universal Title tournament.
Commander Sam/Omega (w/ Star Warrior) vs. Comrade Terror/
To the GWF Universe’s shock, Comrade Terror announced before the match that his partner would be none other than Brute! Brute and Massacre both looked at Comrade Terror with distrust but Massacre and Terror both knew that Brute wanted to get his hands on Commander Sam after the impressive war the two had at Card No. 2.
Omega did not seem to be in the right head space but still insisted to Sam that he start the match against Comrade Terror. This was a bad choice as Terror dominated early and hit the ATOMIC WARHEAD, but to the Comrade’s surprise, Omega kicked out!
Terror got up looking to deliver more punishment, only for Brute to blindly tag himself back in. That gave Omega enough time to recover and duck a knife-edge chop and tag out to Commander Sam. The GWF crowd began to buzz as the two faced off and Sam asserted control right away, though Brute seemed to take the punishment well. Sam hit his ATOMIC DROP, but Brute was able to kick out even after Comrade Terror’s PIN save failed.
Sam continued to have Brute’s number, quickly countering anytime Brute would mount any offense and hit ANOTHER ATOMIC DROP! Terror was able to break the pin this time, but as Omega cut Terror off and the two spilled to the outside, Sam hit a third ATOMIC DROP!
With the referee distracted by Omega and Comrade Terror’s brawl, Massacre snuck in while Sam was trying to pin Brute and hit a DECAPITATOR on Sam! Star Warrior was furious and ran in to confront Massacre! The two brawled for a bit, but the numbers game was too much as Brute hit Star Warrior with a shoulderbreaker, and then, as the referee restored order, Brute took over on offense.
Comrade Terror blindly tagged himself back in, continuing the tenuous relationship between Terror and the Gladiators.
They couldn’t argue with Terror’s results, as he was able to get Commander Sam in a pinning predicament after an atomic knee drop. Sam kicked out and Terror sent Sam into the ropes but the two hit each other with simultaneous clotheslines! Again showing incredible resilience, both men got to their feet at nearly the same time but Sam ducked a right hand and hit SAM’S ATOMIC DROP on Comrade Terror! Terror would not fall to his hated rival right then and there, and would not tap out to an abdominal stretch! Frustrated, Sam tagged out to Omega and inspired the inaugural GWF champion and former owner to get fired up! Omega sent Terror into the turnbuckle and warmed himself up for a big TOMAHAWK THRUST, but Terror slipped around and rolled Omega up! Before Commander Sam could react, Terror managed to hold Omega down long enough for the 3 count!
RESULT: Comrade Terror/Brute def. Commander Sam/Omega (Terror>Omega with schoolboy rollup; Commander Sam +1, Omega +3, Brute +3, Comrade Terror +3)
Stunned GWF fans confident they were going to see Omega put away Terror instead watched as Terror basked in victory. Massacre had to restrain Brute after the match, denied once again the satisfaction of causing destruction and mayhem in the GWF. The Federation Defense Fighters gathered to rethink strategy in the ring as the victorious villains walked away.
Titan Death Match
Pulsar vs. Mutant
Pulsar was seeking revenge tonight, but seemed confused and angry, and more than anything, very, very alone. He was not ready for Mutant in a Titan Death Match scenario. From the start, Pulsar looked for a shoulder tackle but was overpowered by the unhinged Mutant. Mutant, who no doubt was coached by Krakan on what to do to Pulsar in this match, took advantage of the lack of rules to brutally attack Pulsar’s face. Within seconds, Pulsar was bloodied by the putrid nails of Mutant digging into his forehead and ripping at the sides of his mouth. The official could hardly watch the image in front of him as Mutant ripped at Pulsar’s young flesh.
Finally, Mutant trapped Pulsar’s head in a front facelock, dragging him off the ground as blood stained the GWF mat before Mutant lifted him in the air, holding him for a moment as blood streamed down the oozing pustules on Mutant’s arm before Mutant finally fell to the mat with a Skullcrusher.
The student of the Invincible Krakan had learned well for such a primitive mind. And Pulsar, the Last of the Flying Titans, had learned too late that he was no match for the Society of Death with his fellow friends on the mend.
The 3 count was academic, the silence from GWF fans only pierced by sobs from adoring young female fans holding framed holo-photos of a smiling Pulsar, a visage that may now a distant memory.
RESULT: Mutant def. Pulsar with a Skullcrusher
As the GWF Holovision broadcast came to a close, Mutant raised a bloody hand to the sky for all the GWF to see the blood spilled, a disgusting image that brought forth one very important question: Will it be a villain who rises to the top of the GWF once the Rise of the Heroes Universal Title tournament begins?
Krakan def. Shane Matthews via backward leg-sweep (Matthews +2, Krakan +1)
Renegade/Beast-Rider def. Actagon/Proteus via disqualification (Actagon used steel chair)
Wolf def. Death Knight with the SAVAGE FACE CLAW (Death Knight +3, Wolf +1)
Comrade Terror/Brute def. Commander Sam/Omega (Terror>Omega with schoolboy rollup; Commander Sam +1, Omega +3, Brute +3, Comrade Terror +3)
Mutant def. Pulsar with a Skullcrusher
Promoter notes:
-- First-round tournament preview coming up, feel free to make predictions. I will be separating stuff out into more posts in the future, I agree with Pariah that it'll be easier to keep things straight and nicely divided.
-- Tag matches are weird in COTG because one guy gets on a roll and you don't want to tag him out but then a reversal later and the match could be on the fast track to ending. Might need to tinker with those in the future...
-- I actually feel bad for Brute not being able to go all murder-death-kill on a poor Galaxian Hero. Such a lack of catharsis for him.
-- So, I've read ahead a bit in COTG lore and I'm pleased as punch that someone else thought it'd be a good idea to screw with Pulsar's face. This was actually a pure accident -- I didn't necessarily think Pulsar would win, but I figured it'd be an epic battle. I didn't think Mutant would hit two face manglers, a Skullcrusher and that Pulsar would not only roll his PIN but roll under his fatigue PIN. Oofty goofty. I had to do something there, it was just too much of a butt-whooping. The pose with the blood on Mutant's hand is probably a sign I'm watching too much Lucha Underground, but such is life.
