GWF News Report
This is a special GWF report. We are live at the Mira Ceti War Memorial on Cetus for a very special event.
A new tournament is about to take place here. Well, technically it's new, but I'll let my partner do the explaining.
A few years ago, we had a tag team tournament known as the Milky Way Tag Team Tournament, which was sponsored by Jack Grossman. It featured four teams, and went the entire year of 2121, and the winner received a cash prize and a trophy, and the losing team split up. This year, the GWF Board of Directors planned on bringing back the tournament as an annual affair, mostly in name only, as it would be a traditional 16-team single elimination tournament that spanned this Supercard cycle, leading to Champions of the Galaxy.
Then, something unfortunate dropped onto our laps.
We received the sad news about the passing of GWF Co-Founder Omega. One of our talents, Bloodline, the grandfather of Omega, went to to the board to give his notice, and to suggest a tribute show for Omega. The board was throwing around the idea of bringing back the Milky Way Tournament when he came in, so they decided to re-brand the tournament into what it is now: The Guardians Tag Team Classic.
This is a tribute tournament not just for Omega, but for the other Co-Founder, Morpheus, and celebrates tag team wrestling, as both men were part of one of the first tag teams in the GWF: The Guardians.
And the winner of this tournament will receive a Tag Team Championship match at our next Supercard after Champions of the Galaxy, Entropy. Unless circumstances shine on one team in the tournament, but we will get to that when we get to their match in the bracket.
Speaking of the bracket, let's discuss that right now.
Certainly. All 8 first round matches will take place here tonight, the quarter and semifinals will take place across the Holovision casts afterwards, and the finals will take place at Champions of the Galaxy. Now, we move on to covering the 8 first round match-ups.
Our first match-up features a new team facing off with a team that had broken up last year.
The team of Oracle and Mantis, known as We Can See All, are a part of the Infinity Challenge under Team Abroz. As a team, they have been doing fairly well together, despite being forced together as a tag team. Their opponents, Havoc and Payback, known as On The Edge, were a team back in 2124. However, they split up due to Menace drafting Havoc into his Covert Operations supergroup to face off with the Aethrans.
I feel that they can still be a cohesive unit for this.
I believe so too. They didn't have a falling out when they split up. It was because Dark Menace felt that the best way to take out the Aethrans was with an Aethran. Unfortunately, Payback was left in the dust because of this, but I still feel that they can stay cohesive.
Fresh off of their First Blood Match victory at War Games, Demon Bloodlust are gunning for the Tag Team titles, and feel that they are next in line for a title shot against The Ultimate Fighters.
Which I agree with. I mean, come on. They beat one of the top tag teams in the division in Frontal Assault.
There is no denying that. However, they have a tall order ahead of them in the form of the reuniting Genesis. The team of Anivar and Tauran are back together since the match they had against each other back at Galactic Warfare. They have an indirect issue with Demon Bloodlust, as they are part of the supergroup known as Rogues Gallery, which has a member of the roster that has been a thorn in their side since his debut: this latest incarnation of Bishop Hell.
Well, they have to keep their mind off of that, and focus on winning this tournament, because if they undermine this new team of Coven Black and Nosfera, they're going to lose.
Well, I agree with you that underestimating your opponent is always a bad thing, no matter who you are. But Anivar and Tauran are one of the more cohesive units in the GWF. They've had each other's backs since arriving here, and even before that.
Now we have our first team represented by their supergroup, as Co-Commissioner Sly Drury teams with Encubus under the Martial Law banner.
The crown and crown jewel of the GWF coming together to take this entire tournament.
Well, their opponents aren't slouches in any manner.
Oh, please. Gryt and Tanck aren't all that great.
They are, in their minds, anyway, pound for pound the strongest in the GWF, Tanck especially, since he bills himself as "The Galaxy's Strongest Man." This team represents Team Dialectas in the Infinity Challenge, and yes, their win-loss record this year is rather skewed towards the losses, but they certainly have the strength advantage.
You know the saying, Dragon: All brawn, no brains.
Whatever you say.
Now if you want to talk about a team that has zero chance of winning, let's look at this match-up.
Well...
Don't even TRY to defend these guys, Dragon. You know as well as I do that Juggle and Shuffle are nothing but losers.
OK, settle down. Let's remain impartial here. Yes, Juggle and Shuffle, separately, are not exactly world beaters, but Dialectas put them together in hopes of changing their luck around. But they certainly have their work cut out for them, as they have to face the Tag Team Champions in the first round of this tournament, which leads me to what I said earlier. The winner of this tournament will get a shot at the Tag Team Championships at Entropy...unless The Ultimate Fighters make it to the finals, in which case, the tournament will not only be for the Guardians Cup, but ALSO the GWF Tag Team Championships at Champions of the Galaxy.
Some huge stakes, to be sure, but can Clinch and Shoot reach the finals?
If there's anyone that has a bigger chance of doing so, I don't know who that could be.
One of the best tag teams in recent memory face one of the most high-flying teams.
I couldn't have said it better myself. Frontal Assault are looking to avenge their loss against Demon Bloodlust with a victory against Titan Energy. At the same time, Tristan is looking to capitalize off a big win for the Heavy Metal Championship, and also to look past a beatdown by Symbiosis after winning the title. A beating that Nitro saved him from. But as you will probably say, they need to look past Symbiosis, and look towards winning this tournament, as a golden opportunity is present by winning this.
How would you feel if Tristan was a double champion as a result of this?
As a fellow Titan, I would most certainly be proud of this accomplishment, but that is another story.
Here are two teams that were unfortunately split up due to the Infinity Challenge.
I don't know about that. For one team, at least, this split could have been the greatest thing that could have happened.
I see where you're coming from. In any case, we have Leaders of the Pack, Malkuth and the GWF Heavyweight Champion Panther Warrior, facing off against Stars and Stripes, U.S. Male and American Guy.
Hopefully each team can squash any tensions made by the Infinity Challenge splitting them up.
Well, I know the AniMen can still be a cohesive unit. As for Stars and Stripes...that is a bit tricky. Not only have they split and gotten back together so many times, but they just had an intense contest at the latest edition of Infinity Complex. But I hope, like you do, that match squashed the tension between them.
Hector and this new incarnation of Thantos hope to continue their mind games against the Twin Towers of Doom.
They're gonna squash that teddy bear again.
This is the first time that this team, collectively known as the Cerebral Assassins, will be teaming up. That could potentially benefit them, as the Twin Towers do not know what to expect, especially with the strange nature of Hector.
Strange is an understatement.
Oh, will you stop.
And finally for tonight, we have the former GWF Tag Team Champions, the Gladiators facing off the two representing members of the Federation Defense Fighters, Endgame and Ensor.
I REALLY hope that the Gladiators destroy those two boring goody two-shoes.
But that could potentially create a very interesting situation for the second round. We could potentially see Rush and Turmoil face off with Overmaster and Paralyze: Aethrans vs. Aethrans.
That would definitely be interesting. But, I definitely see Overmaster making them lay down for him and Paralyze.
No, if I know the Aethrans as well as I think I do, it'll be down to "May the best team win." Well, that's enough for now. Stay tuned for the start of the Guardians Tag Team Classic.
