Card 876 – SATURDAY NIGHT STARSLAMMERS + CPC ALL STARS – Europa Garden and Pelf Palace:
Double show extravanganza. GWF and CPC hosting shows on the same night at the same time. A feed is set up around the top of the GWF ring displaying results from Pelf Palace. Commissioner Grogan refuses to recognise the CPC show as a separate card. He trims the Europa Garden section to 6 matches and records all the results in the record books as 1 single show. It’s the usual setup from Pelf Palace with Magnus Colby and Sonora Pelf up in the VIP gallery. But this time Janus joins them to observe the matches. An honour given to him to sit among ‘royalty’ as reward for being a great champion and in Colby’s words “the best wrestler in the cosmos”. Wonder if comments like that will make Pegasus’s ears prick? Also notable that the referees for the CPC hosted matches are all wearing earpieces. Possibly so any one of Guile, Colby or Pelf can exert influence over them. When it’s all over the fans give the GWF section the thumbs up as the better show. The three big title changes very pivotal in that. But the CPC action was also great with everything going off without a hitch.
GWF STARSLAMMERS SECTION:
Thunder and Overkill break hearts as they beat managerless New Order to win the tag belts. Could this live up to the previous show when New Order faced Vengeance and Malice in one of the greatest matches in GWF history? If it is to be even half as good it will be a classic. The bad news for New Order is that Destructon 3000 is still in the repair shop. Makes a daunting title defence against the Gladiators even tougher. New Order are so focused though. Even refusing all interviews in the build up so they can prepare themselves. They want to make sure they hold these belts for more than one title defence. Mace boldly proclaims this is what the team needed and has brought them together like never before. A new battle against a new generation of Gladiators whom they will also beat. It’s probably not too far from the truth that WAR succeeded not only in SUDDEN DEATH 94-95 but also indirectly triggered CIVIL WAR. The possibility to do something similar surely not too far from the minds of all the team members. Thunder, being the mouthpiece of the Gladiator tag team, scoffs at these references to the past. This is a new generation of Gladiators that are superior in every way to the Gladiator Legends and New Order were about to be crushed as they rightfully reclaim the tag team titles. The absence of Destructon 3000 is soon felt as Thrash is able to sneak up behind Dreggs standing on the apron shortly after the start. Rams an object into the back of his knee before he is able to kick her away. That left him hobbling for a while. New Order was certainly going to have their hands full with her but in a dramatic moment Amazonia charges down the runway. Stopping halfway and calling out Thrash to face her. Obviously not taken her title loss earlier too well. Thrash cannot resist and the two brawl to continue what they started earlier on in their championship match. That was Thrash taken care of then. Back to the match and with no outside influences has all the ingredients to be another classic. But there are no guarantees. It becomes cagey as hell. Very few big moves and seemingly stuck on a grind of level 1 or 2 offensive moves. Nearly 10 minutes in and still lacking in incident. Mace now decides to inject some passion. Uses every bit of strength he has to whip Overkill into the turnbuckle. Then tries a big follow up smash but Overkill shows a surprise turn of speed to avoid impact. Mace hits his chest hard and goes down. Despite the impact it doesn’t look like the sort of thing that should lead to being pinned. Certainly Dreggs doesn’t think so as he makes no move into the ring to help his partner. Proves to be mistaken as Overkill turns Mace over and goes for a choke assisted pin. Mace simply grabs at Overkill’s powerful wrists and stamps his feet but cannot muster a kick out. Shocked silence meets the bell being rung. The Gladiators greedily grab the belts from the referee and march, army fashion, away. There will be many more battles to come but this must hurt for WAR. For the Gladiators it is a reminder of their intimidating GWF presence after a slow start to the year. For the briefly resurgent New Order they don’t even manage one successful defence. So it’s, as far as GWF records go, as if they never held the belts. A classic case of the lord giveth and then immediately taketh.
Painmaster relieves Talisman of the Interplanetary belt. Mandrill making light of his earlier exertions and creating some noise. Not realising a camera has picked him up in a corridor and relaying footage back into the large screens above the crowd. He is warning Sentry that he better do his job properly tonight and help secure the IP belt. Too often Sentry has been dozing in his role. Mandrill ominously warns “you will suffer far worse than simply being docked a days pay for napping on the job if you foul up again”. Talisman can see and hear all of this. It gives him even more confidence that he will be able to fight off Painmaster. Happily pronouncing to the crowd “if Mandrill is going to all this trouble to threaten his own men it’s because he is worried about them facing me”. Sometimes too much confidence isn’t a good thing though. Let’s hope complacency doesn’t set in. Initially Painmaster is sluggish. As if his last loss to the Matador had taken a lot out of him physically and also sapped his confidence. Talisman shows an influence from Archon by employing a few submission style moves to try and methodically wear Painmaster down. It’s all looking really good for him and Painmaster hasn’t too many answers. Surely a foregone conclusion but wait, hold the front page, Talisman inexplicably goes after a wilting Painmaster who had rolled outside. He should of waited it out. As soon as he steps out there it is a dangerous territory. Sentry quickly fires a stun blast into some empty tables and makes it look like it was a total accident. With everyone’s attention on the decimated furniture Sentry then comes up behind Talisman and uses his gun to nail him in the back of the head. Painmaster steadies himself and gratefully pitches Talisman back into the ring and applies THE TORTURE RACK. With the ref still outside Painmaster gets annoyed and throws Talisman down and demands he get his attentions back on the match. Once the ref is back in place Painmaster simply inflicts the move again. Talisman is unable to submit because he has fallen unconscious so the ref reluctantly calls an end. Painmaster controversially proclaimed new IP champion. Ominous as this is the first step towards the Colonizer domination that Mandrill has been endlessly plugging. Sentry breathes a sigh of relief inside his smelly helmet. Mandrill will be happy with his actions here.
Thrash pins Amazonia to become Ladies champion. A chance for the Gladiators to start their domination again and get back in the good books of senior war officials. The first of two title matches. Thrash’s value to the Gladiator team has never been questioned. Having shown countless times how prepared she is to put herself about to assist them in her bodyguard role. But it’s her own career in the ring where she has floundered. Very hit and miss. At times devastating but a record littered with surprise losses and very few title reigns, none of them which have been particularly significant. She angrily says a new chapter would be written tonight but Amazonia vows to protect her belt like the warrior she is. Her superior head to head record against Thrash speaks for itself and makes her the favourite. Once they get their hands on each other the two ladies put many of the men to shame. Fighting with incredible intensity as if they were actually out on a battlefield and their lives depended on it. The contest goes on for a long, long time. Probably the longest they’ve ever lasted against each other. Given the explosive offence both possess things don’t usually last too long. This time though the night belongs to Thrash. With murmurings that only a few minutes remained before the time limit was hit Thrash suddenly upped her game another level. Amazonia momentarily let her guard down and walked into a brain buster bludgeon. It proved the perfect setup for FEMME FATAL and the hot potato that is the ladies belt changes hands again. Thrash aggressively flaunts her title win. Can she hold onto it this time? Her record once she wins the belt has been inconsistent in the past. There was one solid 23 card reign but the other time was one of those blink and you’d miss it ones. Amazonia instantly challenges for a rematch. Thrash doesn’t waste anytime in rejecting her as ‘no challenge’ which gets Amazonia pretty ticked off. It would fuel a fire to seek her out later in the show.
Mayhem storms back with a win over Mandrill in a Hitman match. Despite a recent failure Mandrill still has designs on the Heavyweight belt so this match, as well as being part of the offbeat Colonizer-Hitmen feud, is also of great importance as far as establishing the top contenders. Mayhem’s not licking his wounds after losing to Pegasus on what put down to an ‘off day’. Instead his bloodlust is at an all time high with a hit list as long as your arm. As soon as Krakan challenged the authority of the Colonizers Mandrill’s name went on it. Mayhem smirks as he holds up the list scrawled in blood during a pre-match interview, “see here Mandrill! You made my list but don’t worry your not number one yet. That spot still belongs to my good friend Wolf”. The cameras now move back to the ring where the Hitman pole is being hastily setup. The bag of goodies is always a point of speculation. Sometimes it’s cash but often time this changes. Recent offerings have been pretty paltry but that’s because mostly the combatants don’t care. The symbolic victory by grabbing the bag itself meaning much more than what could ever be inside it. The way it is hooked up in a motion that makes it look light as a feather suggests it’s probably empty. Once the match gets underway it appears Mayhem might have had some practice with it back at the Hitmen HQ. He entirely ignores the ropes and turnbuckles and instead tries to whip Mandrill into the heavy pole instead. Or maybe it just suited his instinctive hardcore behaviour and was seen as an ideal way of drawing blood quickly. The pole was made even sturdier with heavy oak being used in its construction. The first one to hit it was Mandrill and boy did he know about it. In fact it took so much out of Mandrill that Mayhem sensed an early opportunity to finish with LEAP OF DOOM but it missed the mark. Mandrill tried to take advantage of this miss with MUTANT MAULER and then to go for the bag. He was so close. Had fingertips on it before Mayhem pulled him back. There were numerous other close calls but none quite as close as that. Not until Mayhem hit DANGER ZONE. Enough to incapacitate Mandrill long enough to get the bag himself and pick up the win. Mayhem immediately throws it into the crowd which soon gets ripped apart by excited fans. It seemed to be empty but even a piece of the cloth it was made from would no doubt be kept as souvenirs and be finding it’s way onto auction websites to fetch a pretty penny. Mandrill angrily reacts to this damaging defeat which has stalled his domination plans again. Plants Mayhem into the now bagless post head first. Draws blood and renders Mayhem barely conscious. It was a brutal move from Mandrill but it was too little, too late.
Heracles and Anaxis defeated US. Patriot and Ms. Liberty in mixed tag. Love it when unexpected feuds pop up. Here we have what is expected to be the blow off from Heracles and US. Patriot being at war with each other. Adam has already gone on record to say he wants to draw a line under this battle and concentrate on the FDF designated feuds that Commander Sam has laid out for them (and also pursue the CPC Interstellar title). Heracles gives it everything to heat this up in the build up. Insulting everyone he can possibly can, in the space of one promo he calls Ms. Liberty a whore, Adam a failed soldier who had to go into wrestling and suggests Grandad Sam is suffering Alzheimer’s accelerated by faltax and in dire need of an old folks home. Adam didn’t need anymore reasons to get worked up. It was time to shut Heracles up. It looked like he would succeed. The men dominate most of the in-ring action in the contest. Adam looking like he just about has the measure of Heracles. But unexpected things can happen in the blink of an eye and that’s wrestling for you. Adam, in control, whips Heracles into the ropes and looks for the big backdrop. Heracles isn’t too light on his feet but tried to get them adjusted to avoid impending doom. The speed at which he was travelling caused a stumble. Somewhat fortuitously he stumbles and drives a shoulder right into Adam’s head which wipes him out. It was right on the boniest point. Stunned Adam long enough to enable a grateful Heracles to get the pin. Ms. Liberty was prevented from assisting her husband. Anaxis is one step ahead of her and grabbing her hair on the apron to pull her down to the floor. The pair of them brawl. Heracles makes a big celebration. He doesn’t care about Anaxis who gets pulled off Ms. Liberty by the recovering Adam. Giving a forceful push that sent her tumbling. She screams out ‘ASSAULT’ but nobody cares. As Adam puts his arm around Ms. Liberty and walks away Heracles now gets his attentions away from showboating and calls out “I have now proved that I am more man than you. Your wife will bathe with me and my maidens if it’s the last thing I do”. Adam is done with it all, whispers under his breath “jeezuz, change the record and give it a rest” and puts up his hand as if to say ‘talk to the back of it’. The feud hadn’t gone the way he’d hoped but there are more important things to do. In his head this is now over. In the coming days Heracles tries one last thing to keep the heat going. Sending Ms. Liberty pics of himself in various states of undress to get her going. She gets her own back by photoshopping them to make him look less of a man and posting them on her Spacebook account for the entire cosmos to see. They soon get removed and her account get suspended temporarily but it was worth it for the humiliation it caused. Will Heracles now move on?
Buck Steele stays in his own form to see off Manslaughter. Seems like it’s been a long suspension but Manslaughter returns to action. Quite the undertaking too. A potential date with Genocide. Has been very obvious that Darkos is being very helpful towards Mandrill in offering up his men to fill in for the Colonizers this month (and am sure he’s been paid well for it). Manslaughter welcomes the possibility of Buck transforming. Confidence is not something he is short on. He thinks, perhaps foolishly, that he has the strength to go toe-to-toe with Genocide. Not only that but he is much better on a technical level. But he never gets the chance to test his theory out. Despite applying SNAP, CRACK, POP a couple times, which was just the sort of move that might trigger the transformation. Instead Buck sees it out himself each time. He then fights back brilliantly to end up winning via a diving fist to the head. Officials outside look somewhat relieved. They had fully expected Genocide to show himself at some point and ruin all the ringside furniture. Manslaughter says Buck was lucky and only won because the suspension meant he was rusty.
CPC ALL STARS SECTION:
CPC Cruiserweight champ, Prodigy, blows away ex-partner Skinhead. Despite incredible arrogance from Prodigy he is about the only CPC guy that seems to be a fighting champion. A second title defence already and this time against his old partner. The chance to show he was the superior one from the legendary Superiority Complex tag team at the forefront of his mind. Classic line from Prodigy in an interview leading up when asked if he is confident of beating Skinhead “does a bear sh*t in the woods? Of course, there is no other possible outcome. I was always the talent that carried Superiority Complex. I would of been a singles star much sooner if not for Skinhead and Chaos holding me back. Skinhead has eyes bigger than his belly thinking he can take my belt”. Thantos laughs at the lines and chimes in “and now with the greatest manager around to guide him the sky’s the limit, we got our eyes on GWF belts for Prodigy too. CPC Cruiserweight and GWF Interplanetary champion has a nice ring to it”. So many times there has been lots of big talk like all that and people fall flat on their face but these guys back it up big time. Prodigy shows incredible class from the moment that bell rings. Immediately countering Skinhead’s opening salvo to take control. The tokens start going on Skinhead in no time at all. Prodigy knows THE PERFECT SINGLES FINISHER isn’t exactly perfect being (0) and all that. But it’s effective because it doesn’t much setting up and can be dealt quickly. So he just peppers his old partner with it until eventually it brings the desired outcome. When he gets handed back his Cruiserweight belt he cannot wait to get it and hold it under Skinhead’s nose “you see this? Well enjoy it because this is about as close as you’ll ever get to it”. Skinhead thinks about reacting but he looks up to see Thantos flanking Prodigy. He doesn’t do anything. What with that and the fact this could be a very hostile place if anything happens to one of the CPC gems things would end very badly for him. Skinhead’s delayed reaction is to challenge Prodigy to come to one the GWF ‘home’ arenas and defend the belt there “you were good tonight I admit but I still think if we wrestled 100 times I’d win 99 of them. When we were a team you were a lazy little b*stard, I am sure nothing has changed. Grafters always prevail”.
X-Termination downed Transevolver in a non-title match. Unusual to see Transevolver wrestling someone other than the Mercenaries but that doesn’t mean that rivalry is over. Far from it as neither team wants to admit to defeat. But tonight it’s Rocket’s goons that are facing them. Once again it’s not a title match. Criticism that Transevolver has not made one defence yet is batted away by Commissioner Guile, “it’s not my fault all those teams are so useless they cannot earn the right. This isn’t the GWF you know where all you need to do is kiss the Commissioner’s ass and you can demand anything. We are a respectable wrestling organisation”. Johnny Rocket, minus his mic again, sees this as a way of exorcising the ghosts of his teams last loss at Pelf Palace and pushing towards another title shot request. If they can beat the champs, in his head, surely they cannot be denied again. There’s also an added edge because there is no love lost between Johnny and Monad. X-Termination start really well and put Dreadnaught under a lot of pressure. Dreadnaught’s recent extra dose from the Transevolver is still not having the desired effect on his in-ring performances. He gets the full blast of HEADBANGER’S BALL but at least he did well to kick out unassisted. Manages to pass off to Monad. At first Monad is a beast and neither Grunge and Sleeze can get near him but he needed to deliver a finisher. It was more that he wouldn’t than that he couldn’t. The emotions of wanting to beat on his ex-colleagues getting the best of him. But the longer he played with them the chances of being caught with a sucker punch to turn the tide increased. And so it happens as X-Termination work out a way to get on top of him. There is one failed pin but Grunge gets another stab at it after Metalhead Mauler. Doomsayer comes bowling in but Sleeze tackles him before he gets there and it’s over. Monad is like a tortoise placed in its back when in a pinning predicament and this was no exception. Johnny Rocket excitedly enters the ring and holds his guys arms aloft. Really raising his voice to compensate for having no mic “we should be CPC tag champions right now for winning this. If the Commissioner denies us a title shot now the corruption will be there for all to see”. The cameras move to B. Guile sat at the back of the VIP gallery. He is ashen faced. Pondering how to deal with this. He knows Transevolver will be vulnerable and could easily become the first CPC title casualty. This is in turn could put him in hot water with Colby and Pelf. But if he says no then more scorn would be poured on the CPC which will not go down well either. A difficult position to be in but he wanted this gig.
The Matador makes Colussus look like a jobber. Matador is now ramping up his matches against GWF guys. Now he is without the CPC belt his brief is to go after GWF belts. Preferably the big one. Winning here would put him right in the mix. Displays typical arrogance towards Colussus, “that freak is off his rocker if he thinks he can beat me”. Of course the Matador is privy to insider knowledge with Thantos as his manager. Thantos knows Colussus very well having been a team mate of his for 7 years and agrees with the Matador’s sentiment “Colussus is a mere stepping stone to the Matador’s rise to glory”. But the biggest story coming out of this match is not about the guys about to meet in the ring. It is that this is the first time Star Warrior and Thantos butt heads as managers. The old animosity is back for all to see. Star Warrior is determined to show Thantos up by guiding his men to greater success than his old partner. He doesn’t stay quiet himself “I thought in 2096 that Thantos was a great man and had vanquished all those demons but it’s clear a leaopard never changes it’s spots. Thantos is a bad egg who is consumed by jealousy and lust. Tonight is the beginning of a new war between us, one fought with our minds and abilities to manage. I had the best teacher anyone could wish for in my father and am confident that the Champions will prevail”. So the scene is set. Most eyes are on the managers who keep a healthy distance between themselves. Every now they get caught staring each other down but they are largely trying to ignore and focus on Colussus and Matador. A few short minutes later and it is Star Warrior with his head in his hands. The Matador has one of those untouchable nights and does the business. Taking Colussus out with BULLWHIP. As it’s early Star Warrior wrestles with whether to get involved or not. Technically Matador had just gotten the best of it via the pure art of wrestling. There was not a broken rule in sight. The pause of Star Warrior was fatal. Matador hooked in the leg big time and Colussus cannot respond. Matador is announced winner and leaves with a grinning Thantos. The cameras move to a close up of Star Warrior deep in thought. Maybe realising this managing lark is tougher than he thought.
Terminus keeps his winning run going against Chaos with a lucky DQ win (non-title). Chaos doesn’t manage to get Terminus away from Pelf Palace as he’d hoped but at least it’s a regular match. One he desperately needs to win. A second loss might be too much to take. His aura of invincibility is not nearly as strong as it once was and his team is in danger of fading to the background. This mid-card slot is a perfect example as he is merely supporting cast to the main match ups. It’s no secret his eye is always on the Heavyweight belt but it has crossed his mind a new way to win respect back would be if his team could make a run at the CPC belts. Of course Chaos has no interest in the Interstellar flavour of belt worn by Terminus but the Heavyweight variant might be worthwhile. In his mind he’d be the saviour of the GWF and have heroes and villains alike eating out of his hands. But first things first, he’s got to beat Terminus and that won’t be easy. Especially with Thantos directing traffic at ringside. The match heralds the start of a very busy night for Thantos as he will be managing in 3 of the next 4 matches. But as proven in his first year of guiding No Fear Thantos is already a mastermind when it comes to managing. The guy just has a knack for excelling at everything he does. He has to be on his toes here as Terminus struggles against the power of Chaos. Had looked like it might be easier than thought. Barely a minute gone and the Alpha Stone fades. Sometimes seeing this gets inside the head of Chaos but he brushes it off. Simply steps it up and pretty much destroys Terminus. Draining him with BOW OF DEFEAT (3 in a row) but not managing to profit from it. Terminus does come back into a bit but looks to be a matter of time before he gets beaten. The action goes out of the ring where Chaos barges Terminus who pings off him and hits a ring post. It’s at this point a fast sequence of events occur. Thantos taps his wrist. Magnus Colby then speaks into something he is discreetly balancing in his lap. Barely a moment later the ref puts his hand up to the right ear to muffle outside noise and listen in to his earpiece. All a coincidence? I think not as the ref immediately alerts the table for the bell to be rung. We all know what’s coming as the announcement decrees Terminus winner by DQ. Chaos angrily pushes the ref out the way on departure and stomps off. Given the way he’d been shafted it was a quiet way to go but it’s not long before he has something to say “everyone can see the corrupt influence the CPC is having on the officials. They are too frightened to go against Colby and Pelf. Calling the DQ was the only way I was ever going to be beaten. But I will keep on coming. Once I destroy Terminus I will be coming for the CPC Heavyweight belt. I don’t care if who holds it but I kind of hope it’ll be Matador. That arrogant d*ck thinks he is the greatest wrestler there has ever been. Of course he is wrong as that status will always apply to Chaos”. The way things are going though they are set to be like ships that miss each other in the night. We could end up with the unique scenario of the Matador holding the GWF belt and Chaos the CPC title if things work out.
Mad Jester assaults Jack of Diamonds. Jack returns to Pelf Palace hoping for better this time. Although he cannot believe he is still having to wrestle this lunatic despite having banished him once. Jester claims since being banished he has had an epiphany and wants to make peace. He says sorry for all he has done and offers a gift in the shape of a box. Jack is wary. He thinks it is a trick. Jester sheds a tear at the refusal and looks genuinely upset. He says “it was a nice gift, look”. Unwraps to reveal a beautiful framed picture of the King’s Court team from 2097 with Jester in his once popular Defender of the Realm persona. Jack feels bad and accepts the offering and they hug. Jester then goes over to Exo-King “I haven’t forgotten Jack’s daddy. You have done so much for me your highness and I hope you’ll accept this?” Naturally Exo-King’s guard is down after what he’d just witnessed. He unwraps the box but it’s the classic trick as a boxing glove springs out and breaks his nose. Jester now goes totally feral and begins attacking. There was something else in the box which Jester quickly grabs. Yes the barbed rattle is back! It gets buried into the back of Exo-King to finish him off. The King falls helplessly through the ropes and is no good to his son now. Jack had also taken a blow but bravely comes back at Jester and manages to knock the rattle out of Jester’s hand. But he is bleeding from the earlier assault and very quickly breaks down. Jester is allowed to continue getting away with murder as he sets up A DEAD MAN’S VERSE. You’d almost of thought this was a Titan Death match with everything that’s gone on. The impact is too much for Jack too take and he is easily pinned. It takes a while for Jack to recover but when he does he angrily confronts the ref over the move but gets nowhere. She simply shrugs and says “I didn’t see anything”.
Nefarus beats Splatter by DQ. Nothing more dangerous than an angry Splatter. Every time he sees reruns of that humiliating 1 move loss to Mayhem he flies into a rage and starts destroying stuff. It’s still raw. With that in mind it’s probably not a good time for Nefarus to face him but with Sentry on hand he thinks Splatter can be tamed. He’s even got all the lines by describing Splatter as “nothing but a Neanderthal that can easily be outsmarted”. This smartness in evidence as during the match Nefarus begs on his knees and then fires a cheap shot. It’s amazing how many fall for that. It just releases even more bottled Splatter rage who manages to throw Nefarus outside and then starts throwing chairs, tables, flying camera drones at him. Basically anything he could get hands on. But what’s this a CPC wrestler being disqualified. That’s a collector’s item. Splatter still manages to get his violent fix as he then gives Nefarus a slug with Arsenal as a parting shot.
