It’s 2087 all over again!
With the recent release of Red Talon and the Duke of Destruction, I’ve decided to do a quick, ten show 2087 Champions of the Galaxy campaign. This is a stand-alone venture that doesn’t tie into my ‘official’ GWF history (back when I played). No titles to be won or defended, just fights. I guess you can think of this as a short barnstorming tour through the galaxy.
I’ll be using the original charts (not the REALLY original ones that had Ch G/H as with an ‘out of the ring’ option, but the revised ones with the ‘deathjump’ option). The only “house rules” will be to roll twice for DQs and have different defensive tag out ranges based upon the tag-team (which became ‘official’ at a later time).
The premise will follow the 2087 handbook with the following modifications: 1. The relationship between Omega and Commander Sam behind the scenes is a bit strained due to their rivalry for the top position in the early years of the GWF. Lately, things have been tense, with Star Warrior playing peacemaker. Omega and Sam maintain a professional working relationship, but haven’t teamed together in many years.
2. Red Talon just showed up one day in Beast Rider’s Savage Kingdom. Soon thereafter, he expressed a desire to wrestle in the GWF. Talon can speak, but makes involuntary clucking noises at times. Like many birds, he is often nervous and jittery. Secretly, Talon is an advance scout for the Ani-Men of Andromeda sent to gather information on the GWF and particularly the Gladiators of Aethra.
3. No one is aware of Red Talon’s agenda, but Wolf realized immediately he was an Ani-Man. Talon knows Wolf can blow his cover and is more nervous than usual whenever Wolf is around. Wolf won’t talk to him, making Talon even more paranoid. What Talon fails to realize is that Wolf is incredibly self-absorbed and doesn’t care at all about Talon or his motives.
4. Exo King and the Duke of Destruction both want control over the Evil Ones, but are doing their best to keep the power struggle under wraps. Killer Queen tends to side with Exo King, but the Duke has secretly promised Death Knight better bionic upgrades to gain his trust. The Duke also has an “under the table” deal with Krakan to support him in his battle with Thantos for control of the villain side. Thantos is aware of the problems between the Duke and Exo King, but is waiting to see how things play out before taking any action.
There you have it! My mini-2087 reboot scenario is set. I don’t intend to close the loop on the storylines in case I ever decide to revisit this setup at a later date and weave it into my history.
Card #1 is ready to go – matches already signed include: • The GWF’s greatest legend Omega takes on former protégé Thantos!
• Beast Rider will team with Red Talon against the Gladiators, Brute & Massacre! Red Talon really pushed Beast Rider for this bout. It will be interesting to see how he fares against top flight competition.
• Wolf squares off against his hated enemy, the Executioner!
• Your big main event will see Commander Sam battle Comrade Terror in the continuation their intense feud!

Card #1 Results
1. Mimic cor Vanity A true contrast of characters with the silent Mimic against Vanity. Vanity has really abandoned his Neptunian roots, as he entered the ring wearing a jewel encrusted robe and was flanked by three exotic beauties. As Vanity paraded about the ring, Mimic pantomimed his actions leading to a heated little scuffle before the bell. The match itself was very good. Mimic didn’t attempt to imitate any of Vanity’s moves and was focused the whole time. He even kicked out of a Pulverizer, which stunned the crowd. Vanity was no slouch either, but grew more and more upset that he couldn’t put Mimic away. After some fast-paced action, Vanity went for a flying cross body, but Mimic ducked and Vanity sailed over the top rope to the floor. He wasn’t able to recover and was counted out. ***
2. Gladiators b Beast Rider & Red Talon The Gladiators came to the ring first and were all business. Beast Rider rode to the ring on a rare Cygnusian stag, with Red Talon right behind. Talon’s twitching bird-like movements are sometimes uncomfortable to watch. He looked nervous, but he’s the one who insisted on a match against the powerhouse Aethran duo. While most were expecting the Gladiators to have an easy time, the match was very competitive. There were several near falls, but eventually Brute hit the Gladiator Piledriver on Beast Rider to get the pin. **1/2 3. Thantos b Omega A few years ago this would have been a far more anticipated event, but Father Time has caught up with Omega, a GWF legend who has stayed around primarily to pass the torch to his son Star Warrior. It’s the classic story of the aging mentor against the protégé gone bad. Thantos was like an adopted son to Omega before turning his back on the family and breaking the Galactic Code. The match was short, and dominated by Thantos. Omega was just a split second too slow on everything he attempted. Thantos won with his signature Masterlock. DUD 4. Invincible Krakan & Ghengis Khan b Lord Nexus & Pit Viper After the attack on Pit Viper that left him injured and scarred, it took a while before he was ready to trust anyone and get back into the ring. Originally, he wanted to go it alone, but was mentored by Lord Nexus, then struck up a close friendship with the youngster Pulsar. Krakan and Khan are just flat out ruthless and would be thrilled to end the careers of all three Titans. The crowd was anxious for a confrontation between Nexus and Krakan, but it never happened. Pit Viper was in the ring a majority of the time and was very aggressive. That led to his downfall, as he missed a deathjump late in the bout. Khan was all over him after that, and tagged Krakan who got the pin with his Falling Face Slam. The Society of Death duo were gloating until Lord Nexus and a revived Pit Viper cleaned house. *1/2
5. Wolf b Executioner Thantos sees Wolf as perhaps the single greatest threat to the group of villains and vile characters he has organized in the GWF. Executioner may not be as high-flying or manic as Wolf, but he is evil and twisted, making him a perfect henchman for Thantos. Wolf has a lot to prove and, with only Proteus standing by him, will have a hard road to travel if he wants to exact revenge on those who have done him wrong. Wolf took a step in the right direction in the encounter, dominating the action before locking on his Savage Face Claw to get the submission victory. *
6. MAIN EVENT: Comrade Terror b Commander Sam Like Omega, Sam is a legend from the early GWF years who has lost a step. Although Omega and Sam rarely met in the ring during those years, their intense rivalry for the top position in the GWF left some emotional scars and led to a rift between the two. Once close friends and tag partners, they have not spoken in years but maintain a professional working relationship when it comes to wrestling. Comrade Terror has become Thantos’ right hand and enforcer when it comes to creating havoc and ruling with an iron fist. The feud between Terror and Sam has deep roots and is one of the most heated in the GWF. This match was another chapter in their long running conflict, and Comrade Terror came out on top. After some furious, hard-hitting action, Terror hit the Atomic Warhead to get the win. *1/2
Card #2 Preview: • Pit Viper was unhappy with his performance this evening, and will be hoping to extract some further revenge on the Society of Death at the next show! He’s made the questionable decision to face BOTH men responsible for disfiguring him, Ghengis Khan and Mutant, in a special Handicap Match!
• Red Talon made some bold comments about the Gladiators after the tag match tonight, insinuating they aren’t as tough as they claim to be. Well, the war-mongering Aethrans didn’t like that, and Massacre will meet Red Talon one-on-one at the next show!
• Commander Sam didn’t get a victory tonight, but will be back in tag-team action next time with his regular partner, Massif! They will face the performance enhanced Evil Ones, although the exact pairing has yet to be determined. With Massif involved, it’s almost a sure bet that Exo King will be one half of the Evil Ones’ team.
• Your big main event will see Comrade Terror seek to continue his winning ways when he meets Thantos’ former tag partner and the most popular wrestler in the GWF, Star Warrior! Thantos knows a match against Star Warrior is inevitable, and is hoping Comrade Terror can do some permanent damage to take Star Warrior out of the picture.

It's been a lot of fun discussing the original COTG sets with Tim lately, brought on by Red Talon and Duke of Destruction's release. I'm looking forward to seeing what develops over this 10 card series.

Card #2 Results
1. Massacre cor Red Talon Red Talon made some comments after the last show intimating that the Gladiators weren’t as tough as they claimed to be. Generally, members of a vicious, war-mongering race don’t take that well, and Massacre was no exception. Talon didn’t embarrass himself, but Massacre controlled much of the action. After a Massacre Slam, the Aethran tossed Talon over the top rope to the floor, where the birdman was counted out. Suddenly Wolf appeared at ringside, although he was more focused on yelling at Massacre than helping Red Talon. When Talon cleared his head and saw Wolf, he let out a loud squawk and scurried away. *
2. Neptunian Space Croppers b Cosmic Punks Another impressive ring entrance for Beast Rider, who flew to the ring on the back of the poorly-named Venusian land dragon. Renegade seemed anxious to get his hands on his former tag-team partner Vanity. This was a very fast-paced encounter with all four men getting in some shots. Killer Queen was able to work over Beast Rider, but could never quite lock on Checkmate. Rider made the big tag to Renegade, who cleaned house and got the victory after using a Spinecracker on Queen. However, things quickly got worse for Renegade. Queen and Vanity attacked him after the bell and were quickly joined by Exo King, who had taken Beast Rider out from behind. The three worked over Renegade’s leg and ankle until security broke things up. It didn’t look good for Renegade, who needed help to leave the ring. **
3. Actagon dq Brute The Greek Gods will make their first tag-team appearance on the next show, with a showdown against the mighty Gladiators looming. A complete mismatch is sheer size, as Brute towered over Actagon during introductions. As soon as the bell rang, these two were right at it. Actagon intelligently used a “hit and run” type of offense while Brute’s strategy of “smash!” was equally effective. Neither could really gain a sustained advantage as the match progressed. During a tie up, both grapplers fell through the ropes and hit the floor. Brute, in true Aethran fashion, was more concerned with punishing his opponent than getting a win. He smashed Actagon with a steel chair right in front of the referee and was immediately disqualified. Within moments both Proteus and Massacre were on the scene and a brawl between the four erupted. After several minutes of pounding on one another (and several security guards) the skirmish was broken up. DUD
4. Exo King & Duke of Destruction b Massif & Commander Sam Initially, this match had high interest because of Massif and Exo King being on opposite sides. By the end of the bout, the focus had turned to an apparent lack of solidarity within the Evil Ones group. As the bout went on, King & Duke seemed completely unwilling to cooperate with one another. There were a couple of hard slap-tags in and out between the two, and other times when one would be unwilling to tag in and help his partner. Despite the internal drama, the duo still did some damage in the ring. With Commander Sam in trouble, King made a hard tag in and locked on the Death Vise to pick up the win. There was no celebration after the victory, as King & Duke exited on opposite sides of the ring and returned to the locker room without saying a word to one another. ***
5. Ghengis Khan & Mutant b Pit Viper (Handicap Match) Khan proposed this match, offering Pit Viper a chance to face both the attackers who disfigured him at the same time. The conniving Khan was clearly trying to take advantage of Pit Viper’s rage and irrational state of mind. Since the incident, Viper has shown drastic changes in both his personality and in-ring style. Formerly very focused and centered, he has become very aggressive and reckless. Lord Nexus has tried to counsel Viper, without much success. Viper signed for the match without thinking and paid the price. He was taking a beating when Nexus came to ringside, perhaps to offer advice or perhaps to throw in the towel. We’ll never know Nexus’ motives, as he was suddenly attacked from behind by the Invincible Krakan! Viper was distracted by the fracas on the floor, took a Twin Thrust from Khan and was pinned. Pulsar quickly showed up and the Society of Death retreated to the locker room. ½*
6. MAIN EVENT: Star Warrior b Comrade Terror With a showdown against Star Warrior on the horizon, Thantos sent his favorite henchman Comrade Terror against the young hero. There was certainly a hidden agenda to try and injure Star Warrior, as Terror spent much of the match using high impact moves and working the left leg. Warrior was resilient, getting up off the mat to fight back every time. Finish came when Terror began to tire and Warrior had enough left in the tank to hit his Nova Launch for the victory. Executioner hit the ring right after the bell, but Star Warrior caught him with a dropkick and got away without further damage. ***1/2
Card #3 Preview: • Renegade was hurt, and doctors advised him to take the next four shows off to recover. That advice fell on deaf ears, as Renegade will be back on the next show teaming with Beast Rider to take on Exo King and Killer Queen! Will Renegade’s risky decision to compete have an impact of the outcome?
• After their confrontation earlier tonight, Wolf and Massacre will square off in a face to face encounter on the next show! Wolf better have eyes in the back of his head, as you know Brute will be lurking around ringside somewhere.
• The Greek Gods will be featured in a time traveling, tag-team extravaganza, as they tackle the team of Ghengis Khan & Executioner!
• Lord Nexus got ambushed by Invincible Krakan earlier in the night, but will have a chance to get back at him on the next show! The leaders of the Flying Titans and Society of Death go one-on-one in your big main event!

Card #3 Results
1. Red Talon ddq Vanity Vanity made his usual lavish entrance, stalling to begin the bout until his ornate robe had been properly folded and handed to the ringside attendant. Red Talon had his best showing, getting a couple very close near falls, which seemed to take Vanity by surprise. Vanity made a sneaky comeback, but after an exchange of eye gouges, the rulebook went out the window and the match turned into a free for all. The referee found himself in the middle of the action a couple of times, and finally disqualified both participants. **
2. Mutant b Pit Viper Taking the Handicap Match on the last show where Viper faced both Mutant and Ghengis Khan probably wasn’t a good decision for the Titan. This time he had one of his attackers one-on-one. Viper was in charge for most of the contest until Khan showed up at ringside. Although he didn’t directly interfere, he was a distraction, allowing the unorthodox Mutant to use a Temple Grinder to get the victory. ½*
3. Exo King & Killer Queen b Neptunian Space Croppers The story here was the Evil Ones spending much of their time on offense working over Renegade’s injured leg. Beast Rider did a very good job of keeping his rambunctious partner under control, even managing a couple of near falls on Killer Queen. That may have been because Queen was very unnerved by the two large monitor lizards that carried Beast Rider to the ring and remained at ringside. However, in the end Renegade’s leg just gave out and Killer Queen was able to use Checkmate to get the win. Beast Rider had to help his partner to the locker room after the match. **½
4. Wolf b Massacre The maniacal Wolf was anxious to get his hands of former stable mate. This was a very intense and hard-hitting contest that saw the momentum swing back and forth between both grapplers. Massacre was chirping at Wolf about the “superior” Aethran fighting style throughout, causing Wolf to let out a couple of howls in response. However, it was Massacre doing the howling when Wolf locked on the Savage Face Claw! Massacre wouldn’t submit, but Wolf forced his shoulders to the mat to get the pin. **
5. Greek Gods b Ghengis Khan & Executioner Actagon & Proteus made quite a statement to the rest of the tag-teams in the GWF, never allowing Khan to tag out of the bout and dominating the action. Actagon put the Mongol to bed with the Grecian Sleeper Grip in a short match. With a bout against the massive Gladiators coming up on the next show, it looks like the Gods are at the top of their game. ½*
6. MAIN EVENT: Invincible Krakan b Lord Nexus One of the bitterest rivalries in the history of the GWF takes center stage, with the leaders of the Flying Titans and Society of Death in the main event. Both men were composed during introductions but, once the bell rang, were at each other like a couple of wild dogs. Krakan was able to do some early damage, but Nexus was able to recover and use his potent aerial attack. The momentum finally swung to Krakan when Mutant showed up and tripped Nexus from outside the ring. That gave Krakan the opportunity to land a crushing clothesline from the top rope to get the pin. ***¾
Card #4 Preview: • It took some doing, but Beast Rider was able to convince Renegade to take a little time off to heal up. On the next show, Beast Rider will team with young Titan Pulsar. The two will face another duo from the Evil Ones, Death Knight & the Duke of Destruction!
• Hated rivals Commander Sam and Comrade Terror will continue their feud on the next show with another one-on-one showdown!
• As noted earlier, the top two tag-teams in the GWF will square off on the next show. Actagon & Proteus, the Greek Gods, will take on the Gladiators of Aethra, Brute & Massacre! This should be a titanic struggle between two powerhouse teams looking to establish themselves as the greatest tag-team in the galaxy!
• If the Greek Gods – Gladiators meeting wasn't enough, your big main event will see former Gladiator Wolf battle the sadistic Executioner in a special, no holds barred Titan Death Match! Thantos is desperate to stop the rampaging Wolf before the two ever have to meet in the ring, and is confident that the Executioner will get the job done under "anything goes" rules.

Card #4 Results
1. Pit Viper b Mimic It seems when Viper isn’t wrestling against members of the Society of Death his mind isn’t clouded by hatred and he can just focus on the match. That was the case here, as Viper was able to beat the mysterious Mimic in a very good back and forth contest. Viper used the Venom Blast to get the win. ***
2. Beast Rider & Pulsar b Duke of Destruction & Death Knight With Renegade recovering from the recent attack by the Evil Ones, Beast Rider looked to the young Titan, Pulsar, for some help. The duo wasn’t expected to do well, but showed surprisingly good chemistry. Vanity showed up in the middle of the match, strutted around the ring for a few moments to agitate Beast Rider, but left without getting involved. The Duke and Death Knight had their moments, taking advantage and bending the rules whenever possible. However, it was Pulsar who stole the show and scored the pinfall. He reversed a running fist by the Duke and turned it into a reverse piledriver to nail down the upset victory. *1/2
3. Lord Nexus b Mutant Nexus was looking to gain some measure of revenge on Mutant for costing him the match on the last show against Krakan. The leader of the Flying Titans came on strong as soon as the bell rang and took it to Mutant. Using his speed and agility, Nexus dominated his opponent and used a running kneedrop to pick up the win. Mutant was upset, and tried to attack Nexus from behind after the match. Luckily Pulsar showed up and saved the day, knocking Mutant out of the ring. *
4. Comrade Terror b Commander Sam Sam was anxious for another chance to get in the ring against his arch-nemesis. Although Sam is no longer in his prime, he can still do some damage. He was battering Comrade Terror for much of the match. Somewhere, Thantos must have been watching. Exo King, who has backed Thantos’ campaign to lead the villain forces, showed up at ringside to distract Sam. That gave Terror the opportunity he needed, locking in the Comrade Neck Clutch to get the win. Massif ran to the ring and a wild brawl between the four erupted. Sam & Massif ran off their rivals in the end and were cheered by the fans. ***1/2
5. Greek Gods dq Gladiators of Aethra The two tag-teams generally considered to be the best in the galaxy squared off in a highly anticipated encounter. The Gladiators were able to isolate Actagon early and work him over with double-team tactics. Actagon finally made the big tag and Proteus did a great job of cleaning house. From there, the momentum swung a few times until Proteus and Brute wound up brawling on the floor. Hot-headed Brute grabbed a steel chair, his weapon of choice, and used a wild backhand swing to knock Proteus into the crowd. That resulted in an immediate disqualification, and it looked like the action was about to wind up in the seats. However, as with all Gladiator matches, security was heightened and they were able to get between the teams before things got completely out of control. **
6. MAIN EVENT: Wolf b Executioner (Titan Death Match) The ever-plotting Thantos sees Wolf and Star Warrior as his biggest threats, and hoped the sadistic Executioner could take advantage of the “no holds barred” nature of a Titan Death Match to take out Wolf. Of course, the rules (or lack thereof) also benefitted the wild brawling style of the wildman Wolf. There was probably more time spent on the arena floor than in the ring during this match. It didn’t take long for Wolf to get the advantage and lock in his Savage Face Claw for the victory. **1/4
Card #5 Preview: • As a result of the match earlier in the evening, Invincible Krakan has ordered Mutant to go after young Pulsar on the next show! Talk about a complete contrast in styles! Can Pulsar use his youth and agility based offense to take down the hideous enforcer of the Society of Death?
• In the first of two main event caliber tag matches, Massif & Commander Sam will team to take on their respective enemies Exo King & Comrade Terror! Massif & Sam have teamed often, and hope that will be the difference against a makeshift duo that has Thantos’ fingerprints all over it. That notwithstanding, it should be a spectacular encounter!
• The second tag-team blockbuster will see the Gladiators of Aethra back in action! This time Brute & Massacre will face their former stable mate Wolf, and his partner Proteus! You’ve got four brawlers who can’t stand one another – a recipe for a potentially show stopping encounter!
• How great does the main event have to be to supplant those tag-team encounters? Really great! It’s the long-awaited meeting of the evil Thantos and his former tag-team partner Star Warrior! Can the most popular wrestler in the galaxy take down the master manipulator? It’s going to be a stacked show headlined by the biggest drawing cards in the cosmos!

Card #5 Results
1. Mimic cor Red Talon Red Talon is enthusiastic and very unique, but that hasn’t resulted in a lot of success in the ring. This one didn’t last long, as Mimic ducked a turnbuckle charge and Talon went flying (?) over the ring post, letting out a loud squawk before landing on the floor with a splat. He couldn’t make it back into the ring and was counted out. *
2. Pulsar b Mutant Pulsar and Mutant had a bit of a confrontation on the last show, with the young Titan breaking up an attempted attack on Lord Nexus. This match saw Mutant completely flustered by Pulsar’s fast-moving, high-flying style. The unsightly enforcer of the Society of Death did manage one near fall after a face mangler, but otherwise was on the defensive. Pulsar used a Titan Drop, then locked in a Boston Crab to get the submission victory. ***1/2
3. Massif & Commander Sam b Exo King & Comrade Terror Massif and Sam seemed to have the edge here, as they team regularly. King and Comrade Terror, while both lackeys of Thantos, have no experience working together in the ring. From the start, Exo King wanted no part of this match, telling Terror to start and later walking away from a couple opportunities to tag in. Massif got the early advantage on the big lizard, and turned things over to his partner. Sam was furious about Exo King costing him a singles match against his arch enemy, and just put the boots to Terror in a big way. After beating him from pillar to post, Sam locked in an abdominal stretch to get the win. It looked like Sam might refuse to break the hold after the bell, but did just as the referee was threatening to reverse the decision to a disqualification. **1/2
4. Beast Rider b Vanity Former friends who are now bitter rivals went after each other in this one. Both were much more serious than usual, with Beast Rider simply walking to the ring while Vanity curtailed his usually elaborate pre-match entrance and introduction. The action was intense, but the match ended quickly when Beast Rider used the Bulldog Ride to pick up the victory. He made things worse for Vanity by announcing that Renegade would be back in a couple of weeks and promoters had signed a singles match between the former tag partners for that show. *
5. Gladiators of Aethra b Wolf & Proteus On the last show the Greek Gods got a disqualification win over the Gladiators, and this time Proteus faced the Aethrans again with Wolf as his partner. Proteus started and got off to a quick start, but got caught in the wrong corner and was worked over by Brute and Massacre. Finally he made the lunging tag and Wolf came in and cleaned house. After his initial surge, Wolf got sucker punched by Massacre and the momentum swung back and forth from there. While Brute was brawling with Wolf on the floor, Proteus barely kicked out of a Massacre Slam, then caught a standing dropkick on the chin and was pinned. Executioner showed up to ambush Wolf, but Actagon came out to even the sides and it wound up in a standoff before security intervened and broke things up. ****
6. MAIN EVENT: Star Warrior dq Thantos In what is routinely the biggest drawing match in the galaxy, the evil gamemaster Thantos faced his former tag-team partner Star Warrior. Warrior was accompanied to the ring by his father, the legendary Omega. Just after the bell rang, Death Knight appeared at ringside and smashed Omega from behind with his loaded glove. While Star Warrior was distracted, Thantos tried to take advantage, but Warrior caught him with a punch as he charged in. Omega and Death Knight wound up fighting all the way back to the locker rooms, allowing the fans to then focus on the action in the ring. Warrior was all over Thantos. He dominated the action, but was never able to set Thantos up for the Nova Launch. Likewise, Thantos was never able to get the Masterlock on Warrior. After a long bout, Thantos began resorting to more and more illegal tactics to gain an advantage, but Warrior foiled him on nearly every attempt. Never one to back down from a fight, Warrior took the action outside the ring where a frustrated Thantos took over. He rammed Warrior into the ring post several times and was disqualified. ***1/2
Card #6 Preview: • Pit Viper has struggled to keep his emotions in check when facing members of the Society of Death. Next week will be especially difficult as he faces the man who masterminded the attack that left his face disfigured – Ghengis Khan!
• In an effort to destroy his former mentor, Thantos has sent Death Knight after Omega, and the two will meet one-on-one on the next show! Omega has seen better days, and Death Knight is hoping to be the wrestler that ends the career of the GWF’s most enduring legend!
• While Exo King didn’t see any action during his tag match tonight, he’ll have no choice but to mix it up on the next show when he faces the giant, Massif! Two of the galaxy’s most powerful wrestlers will square off in what looks to be an epic showdown!
• Your big main event will see the Greek Gods once again face the Gladiators, but this time in six-man tag-team action! Wolf will join Actagon & Proteus while Executioner will team with the Aethrans! It could be an interesting dynamic as, despite what Proteus has told him, Actagon does not trust Wolf. On the other side, it’s well known that Aethrans don’t play well in the sandbox with anyone except other Aethrans. To make this encounter even more exciting, it will be a Best of Three Falls contest! Of all the main events thus far, this is undoubtedly the most intriguing by far!
