I actually don't think that they are disputing the right to use the name, just the right to trademark it since Army uses the same name/colors.

Vegas Knights sounds just fine. Army has been the Golden Knights forever.

Vegas Knights sounds just fine. Army has been the Golden Knights forever. The biggest reason for the "Golden" part of the name was to avoid a trademark dispute with the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League. In all honesty if the Golden Knights were doing as well as they are right now do you even think these issues would be popping up?

Why can't they just pick a nickname not already being used by another team? If 'Knights' is a problem too, they should be something else entirely then. Sounds like a problem that could have been easily avoided to begin with.

I honestly believe it is a money grab attempt and it will get resolved. Bill Foley, the team’s owner, is ex Army and he was just trying to pay tribute to his former military branch.
If nothing else, the team has other Knights names trademarked- one of which I know is the Sand Knights. If a name change does happen to another version of Knights, the team’s logo (one of my favorite logos in all of sports,) colors, uniforms, etc would still remain the same.

I honestly believe it is a money grab attempt I could be wrong, I have not been following the story as closely as Knights fans, but I was under the impression that Army was simply looking to get Vegas to stop using the same name, logo and colors. I have not heard about them suing for damages, or revenue loss due to logo infringement. The big thing working against Vegas is that they admit to using the likeness because the owner is a West Point graduate IIRC. He admits to using their name and logo. So if Army is serious, Vegas doesn't have much of a case.

So if Army is serious, Vegas doesn't have much of a case. You are correct about the name and I agree the Army would be expected to win in court, the team owner was just attempting to honor the Army in the first place. But the logo does not belong to Army and the Golden Knights have said it will be retained regardless of whether they need to change their name to some other form of Knights (Sand Knights and Desert Knights have been discussed and trademarked by the team.) Although I disagree with Army's complaint that my NHL team's use of the name makes things "confusing," I guess for now my money grab comment was more aimed at the College of St. Rose who also uses the Golden Knights name and also just requested an extension of more time to contest the use of the name by the Vegas NHL team. I am also wondering why the College of St. Rose and UCF (who just went undefeated in college football last year) can use the Golden Knights name but not the Vegas NHL team.

Golden Knights 6, Blue Jackets 3!
William Karlsson scores twice against his former team (I am a little surprised Columbus made Karlsson available for the expansion draft as he is having a really good year.)

GOLDEN KNIGHTS 4 CALGARY 2
Golden Knights defeat Flames to tie wins record Score three goals in 53 seconds in third period to equal most victories by first-year team by Aaron Vickers / NHL.com Correspondent January 30th, 2018
CALGARY -- The Vegas Golden Knights tied the NHL record for most victories by an expansion team with a 4-2 win against the Calgary Flames at Scotiabank Saddledome on Tuesday.
Vegas shares the record with the Florida Panthers and Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, who each won 33 games in 1993-94.
Reilly Smith, Erik Haula, Jonathan Marchessault and David Perron scored, and Marc-Andre Fleury made 31 saves for the Golden Knights (33-12-4).
Sam Bennett and Matthew Tkachuk scored, and Mike Smith made 31 saves for the Flames (25-17-8), who have lost five games in a row (0-1-4) to follow a seven-game winning streak. Calgary also ended an 11-game point streak (7-0-4).
Trailing 2-1, Vegas scored twice in 10 seconds late in the third period.
Haula scored on a rebound to tie the game 2-2 at 18:14 when Flames forward Michael Frolik inadvertently shot on Smith, and Marchessault put the Golden Knights up 3-2 when he shot short side by Smith at 18:24.
Perron scored into an empty net with 53 seconds remaining to make it 4-2.
The Flames scored twice in the second period to take a 2-1 lead.
Bennett tied the game 1-1 at 6:02 with a sharp-angled shot between Fleury's legs.
Tkachuk put the Flames up 2-1 with 1:17 remaining in the period when he faked a wraparound and brought the puck back out the short side and slid it into the net. Tkachuk has 13 points (nine goals, four assists) in his past 12 games.
Smith gave Vegas a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal at 16:03 of the first period. He tipped a wrist shot from the point by Marchessault behind Smith. The Golden Knights are 22-1-0 when scoring first, tops in the NHL.
