So Vegas what are the chances Vegas keeps either Dave Perron & James Neal or both? Any speculation the local Media? As far as I know those are the only two Unrestricted Free Agents they have on the books coming into the end of this years contracts. I think they could get both back if they want as they have I believe $31 million in cap space. Local reports are suggesting VGK are more interested in retaining Neal.

Four Trophy Wins for the Golden Knights tonight:
George McPhee - General Manager of the Year
Gerard Gallant - Jack Adams (Coach of the Year)
Deryk Engelland - Mark Messier Leadership Award
William Karlsson - Lady Byng Trophy (awarded to the player to best combine sportsmanship, gentlemanly conduct and ability)
So once again Congrats to the Vegas Golden Knights on an incredible first year. Time to load up for Year 2 and make another run at the Cup

Quite impressive and I definitely agree with the GM and Coach of the year...it was a ridiculously great season for the team.

I am not surprised Engelland won the leadership trophy as he is a Las Vegas native who worked hard to rally the community after the worst mass shooting in US History took place just a couple of block away from T-Mobile Arena just days before the season again. I do not know much about the trophy Karlsson won, but glad he won it as he is one of my favorite Golden Knights.

It generally goes to the player with one of the highest point totals in the league combined with the fewest penalty minutes. Wayne Gretzky won the award five times during his playing career. William Karlsson only had 12 PIM in 82 Games played this season, combined with his 43G 35A for 78Pts In the history of the award only 4 or 5 men have won the award after accumulating 30 or more PIM's during the season.

So this award is basically determined mathematically?

I'm not entirely sure on the voting requirement for the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy. It generally goes to the a guy who has high production numbers while earning very few penalty minutes. Only two guys have won the award with 40 Penalty Minutes and those were over a century ago, since that point I think Gretzky had the highest penalty minutes while winning one of his 5 Trophy's at 34 Penalty Minutes.
I always find it the hardest trophy to predict a winner for as it generally doesn't match many other trophy winners. For example the Art Ross Winner is usually a good bet when it comes to predicting who will win the Hart Memorial Trophy (Best Player Overall).

I’m really starting to hate this team Vegas lol, C Paul Stastny signed with Vegas over Winnipeg 3year deal worth 19.5 Million 6.5 million per year cap hit It sounds like we overpaid but at the same time we also upgraded the center spot for our 2nd line. In other hockey news, I saw that Tavares signed with his hometown team Toronto today on Canada Day.

Canada Day is a double Holiday for Canadian NHL fans. All contracts are structured to expire June 30th, making July 1st the first day of what I like to call "Free Agent Frenzy"
The John Tavares deal in Toronto is UNREAL. His entire contract (minus less than a Million per season) is paid upfront as a "Signing Bonus" so today John Tavares got $15.25 Million for signing his name on the dotted line with Toronto. He will get the same next July 1st then progressively less until his "Bonus" hits around the $7 Million mark. His annual cap hit will remain the same at $11 Million a season. I think one of the Hockey commentators called it a "Buy Out Cancelling Contract"
Also in three years when the League could be facing a lockout shortened season Tavares is still guaranteed his $11+ Million Signing Bonus that year.
I wonder how this contract will affect taxes he will owe on that money.
