Match #1: Bobo Brazil defeated Greg Valentine in a Royal Rumble Qualifying match

- Brazil won this match by pinfall after a missed turnbuckle charge by Valentine to earn a spot in the Royal Rumble.

Backstage: Accompanied by Bobby Eaton and Stan Lane and her bodyguard Mr. Hughes, Melina secures a match for her Midnight Express against Stars and Stripes next week on RAW and also manages to get herself added to the #1 Contender's elimination match starting next!

Match #2: Trish Stratus defeated Melina, Tina Moretti, Nora Greenwald, and Jazz in a Vixens Championship #1 Contender's elimination match

- Accompanied by Beverly Shade and Toni Rose, Vixens Champion Fabulous Moolah provided guest color commentary for this match to determine her challenger at the Royal Rumble.

- Stratus eliminated Jazz via STRATUSFACTION.

- Stratus eliminated Melina via STRATUSFACTION.

- Greenwald eliminated Moretti via FLIPPING SEATED SENTON.

- Stratus eliminated Greenwald via STRATUSFACTION.

- As a result, Stratus- a 2 time Vixens Champion who just lost the title to Moolah last month at Tables, Ladders, and Chairs- will get a chance to regain the Vixens Championship later this month at the Royal Rumble!

Backstage: Cruiserweight Champion Gorgeous George is informed he will be defending the Cruiserweight Championship at the Royal Rumble in a 4 way elimination match with each of his 3 different challengers in that match being a representative from one of the 3 different VWF brands of RAW, Smackdown, and EAWA!

Match #3: Road Warriors defeated British Bulldogs in a VWF Tag Team Championship #1 Contender's match

- Both the Road Warriors and British Bulldogs have each earned an upcoming VWF Tag Team Championship match since both tag teams were Survivors at the Survivor Series and this match was to determine which of them would get their upcoming VWF Tag Team Championship match first at the Royal Rumble.

- A good match, the Road Warriors won when Road Warrior Hawk pinned Davey Boy Smith following the DOOMSDAY DEVICE.

- As a result, the Road Warriors will challenge the winner of tonight's main event for the VWF Tag Team Championship at the Royal Rumble while, per match stipulation, both of the British Bulldogs will instead be entrants in the Royal Rumble match.

Backstage: Accompanied by his manager Mr. Fuji, Don Muraco tells RAW General Manager Angelo Poffo that he wants another qualifying match for the Royal Rumble. Poffo tells Muraco that after tonight there are no more singles Royal Rumble qualifying matches for RAW wrestlers but he will enter Muraco into a final multi-man Royal Rumble qualifying match next week on RAW!

Match #4: VWF Tag Team Champions Nick Bockwinkel and Ray Stevens (managed by Bobby Heenan) defeated the Briscos in a steel cage match

- First Fall: A very competitive fall. A bleeding Jerry Brisco pinned Bockwinkel via OKLAHOMA SIDE ROLL. Briscos are up 1-0.

- Second Fall: Bockwinkel and Stevens rebounded to win this fall when Bockwinkel submitted Jerry Brisco via BOCKWINKEL SLEEPER. Briscos and Bockwinkel/Stevens are tied 1-1.

- Third/Final Fall: Bockwinkel and Stevens won this fall when Heenan got away with throwing powder through the holes of the steel cage into the face of Jerry Brisco. Bockwinkel then tapped out a blinded Jerry Brisco via his FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK. Bockwinkel and Stevens win 2-1.

- As a result, Bockwinkel and Stevens retain the VWF Tag Team Championship which they will defend against the Road Warriors at the Royal Rumble while, per match stipulation, both of the Briscos will be entrants in the Royal Rumble match.

Match #1: Warlord defeated Sandman in a Royal Rumble Qualifying match

- Warlord picked up an impressive upset when he defeated Sandman, a former EAWA Champion, via a press slam.

- As a result, Warlord has earned a spot in the Royal Rumble.

Backstage: Eddie Gilbert complains to Tommy Gilbert and Doug Gilbert about not receiving a Royal Rumble Qualifying match especially since he defeated Warlord- who just qualified for the Royal Rumble- last month in the December to Dismember Preshow.

- commentary table: Striker and Zbyszko welcome Kurt Angle, an American Olympic gold medalist, in joining them as a guest commentator. This is Angle's fist-ever appearance in VWF.

Match #2: Dan Severn defeated Stevie Richards (accompanied by Blue Meanie and Super Nova)

- Richards put up a better than expected fight but Severn won via ARMBAR.

- Afterward, Severn pointed toward Angle at te commentary table and said Angle is a good amateur wrestler but he (Severn) is a good professional wrestler and challenges Angle to a match next week on EAWA! {Promoter's Note: I based this somewhat on what Tazz said to Angle when Angle first appeared in ECW.}

Backstage: EAWA General Manager Angelo Poffo tells Jimmy Hart that his tag team of Adrian Adonis and Dirty Dick Hutton will have singles matches against EAWA Tag Team Champions The Crusher and Jackie Fargo before they have their EAWA Tag Team Championship match at the Royal Rumble and the first of these matches will be Fargo vs Hutton next week on EAWA!

Match #3: 2 Cold Scorpio defeated Nacho Barrera

- this match was the VWF debuts for both competitors

- 2 Cold Scorpio won easily after 3 moves via THE DISS THAT DON'T MISS.

Backstage: Brass Knuckles Champion Shane Douglas and Francine are watching tonight's show on a monitor as the previous match ends.

- Francine gasps "What is he doing here?!"

- Douglas (confused:) "Who? 2 Cold?"

- Francine: "No. Nacho! What is Nacho doing here?"

In the Ring: Iron Sheik with Shawn Daivari.

- Daivari: "It does not matter who this mystery wrestler is as the Iron Sheik will tap him out in the CAMEL CLUTCH and break his back to gain a spot in the Royal Rumble."

- VWF Chairman Bob Backlund appears and reveals himself as the Iron Sheik's mystery opponent! Backlund tells the Iron Sheik he won't be able to break the back of Backlund.

Match #4: VWF Chairman Bob Backlund defeated Iron Sheik (managed by Shawn Daivari)

- Iron Sheik got in some good offense but Backlund won via ATOMIC DROP.

- As a result, Backlund wins a spot in the Royal Rumble.

- Afterward, Backlund said the competitor in him would not allow him to stay inside the office and he seeks the VWF Championship. Backlund says, while he could have just named himself to the Royal Rumble, he wanted to earn it like anyone else and he says winning the Royal Rumble will also allow him to earn a championship match at Vegasmania!

Match #1: Intercontinental Champion Buddy Rogers (managed by JJ Dillon) defeated Disco Inferno in an Intercontinental Championship/Royal Rumble Qualifying match

- The stipulations for this match were that if Disco Inferno won he would become the Intercontinental Champion while if Rogers won then he would both retain the Intercontinental Championship and gain a spot in the Royal Rumble.

- Rogers won via his FIGURE FOUR GRAPEVINE to retain the Intercontinental Championship and gain a spot in the Royal Rumble which he won two years ago by last eliminating Ted DiBiase.

Backstage: Boogie Woogie Man, who last year won the 3-brand Preshow battle royal at Vegasmania 2, is granted a Royal Rumble Qualifying match next week on Smackdown!

Match #2: Gorilla Monsoon (managed by Killer Kowalski) defeated Wild Bill White

- In his VWF in-ring debut, Monsson- who answered World Champion Harley Race's international open challenge and will thus challenge Race for the World Championship at the Royal Rumble- basically threw White around the ring and won via forearm hammers.

Backstage: Accompanied by Stan Hansen, Bruiser Brody- who along with Hansen got into a major brawl last week with The Butcher and the Bear- said he has a match vs Ivan Koloff next week on Smackdown!

Match #3: George Hackenschmidt (accompanied by JJ Dillon) defeated Bob Roop (accompanied by Hacksaw Jim Duggan) in a Royal Rumble Qualifying match

- Hackenschmidt won via a single leg pickup and slam to qualify for the Royal Rumble.

Backstage: Smackdown General Manager Teddy Long tells the James Gang and the Armstrongs that next week on Smackdown they along with the Sheepherders and the Quebecers will be in a 4 way elimination tag match with the winners receiving the tag team championship shot at the Royal Rumble!

Match #4: Tully Blanchard and Johnny Valentine (both managed by JJ Dillon) defeated World Tag Team Champions Rock N' Roll Express in a non-title Royal Rumble Qualifying match

- A very good match, the Horsemen won when Valentine put away Robert Gibson via ATOMIC SKULLCRUSHER.

- As a result, Blanchard and Valentine have both qualified for the Royal Rumble while the Rock N' Roll Express will instead at the Royal Rumble defend the World Tag Team Championship against the winner of next week's 4-way tag elimination match.

- As Dillon holds up Blanchard and Valentine's hands in victory, Striker and Valentine remark that all four members of the Four Horsemen (Rogers, Blanchard, Valentine, and Hackenschmidt) qualified for the Royal Rumble on tonight's episode of Smackdown as tonight's show comes to an end.
