The final Smackdown before the Great American Bash!
Vegas Wrestling Federation (VWF) Smackdown #42 June 22nd, Year 2 Las Vegas, NV
- commentators: Matt Striker and Larry Zbyszko
Match #1: Mildred Burke defeated Joyce Grable by DQ
- Just 3 days before she defends her title against Burke at the Great American Bash, Ladies Champion Sherri Martel provided guest color commentary for this match.
- This match ended when the action spilled out of the ring and Martel then left the commentary table and used her Ladies Championship to smash Burke in the back of the head thus causing Grable to get DQd. Afterward, Martinez and Grable proceeded to stomp on Burke as Martinez seemed determined to send a message to Burke going into their Ladies Championship match this weekend at the Great American bash.
Coming next month- Money in the Bank: Smackdown!
Match #2: The Fantastics defeated the Armstrongs
- This was a match involving two of the top tag teams in the US Tag Team Championship Gauntlet for the newly reinstated US Tag Team Championship at this weekend's Great American Bash.
- This match ended when Bobby Fulton pinned Brad Armstrong via FANTASTIC CRADLE.
- As the Fantastics get their hands raised in victory, Striker and Zbysko remark on commentary that, as the only former tag team champions involved in the gauntlet, the Fantastics are likely the favorites in the US Tag Team Championship Gauntlet but their chances could depend on how early they are randomly selected to enter the gauntlet.
Backstage: The James Gang approach Smackdown General Manager Teddy Long and ask if their steel cage match against the Sheepherders at the Great American Bash can instead be moved to next week's Smackdown so they can instead compete in the US Tag Team Championship Gauntlet match. Long says no, but he tells the James Gang that the winner of their steel cage match will instead receive the World Tag Team Championship match at Money in the Bank!
Match #3: Bruiser Brody, Stan Hansen, and Magnum TA defeated World Champion Harley Race, Intercontinental Champion Killer Kowalski, and Abdullah the Butcher by DQ
- This 6 man tag match was taking place just days before Brody challenges Race for the World Championship, Hansen challenges Kowalski for the Intercontinental Championship, and Magnum TA takes on Abdullah the Butcher at the Great American Bash.
- This match ended when Kowalski was DQd for choking Hansen out with his own bullrope.
Great American Bash presented by the VWF's EAWA brand Sunday June 25th, Year 2 T-Mobile Arena Las Vegas, NV 1. Bruiser Brody vs World Champion Harley Race 2. World Tag Team Champions Rock N' Roll Express vs Buddy Rogers and Tully Blanchard 3. Stan Hansen vs Intercontinental Champion Killer Kowalski 4. Unites States Tag Team Championship Gauntlet: Fantastics vs Fit Finlay/David Taylor vs Quebecers vs Armstrongs vs Conways vs Boogie Woogie Man/Brian Christopher vs Taylors 5. Mildred Burke vs Ladies Champion Sherri Martel 6. James Gang vs Sheepherders (steel cage) 7. Magnum TA vs Abdullah the Butcher 8. "Mr. Electricity" Steve Regal vs Disco Inferno vs Redd Dogg vs Lenny Lane (Vegas Traditional Opening 4 Way elimination
Match #4: World Tag Team Champions Rock N' Roll Express defeated Buddy Rogers and Tully Blanchard (accompanied by JJ Dillon and Johnny Valentine) in a non-title match
- This non-title tag match was taking place just days before the Rock N' Roll Express defend the World Tag Team Championship at the Great American Bash against Rogers and Blanchard, who defeated Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson respectively in singles matches the last 2 weeks on Smackdown and who defeated the Rock N' Roll Express in the Finals of last month's MLW Memorial Cup.
- This match ended when Morton pinned Rogers after DOUBLE DROPKICK.
- This show ends with Morton and Gibson with their hands raised in victory. But, as Striker and Zbyszko point out, this same result by itself would not necessarily lead to Morton and Gibson retaining at the Great American Bash as all tag team championship matches in the VWF are best 2 out of 3 falls matches.
End of Show. See you this weekend for the Great American Bash!
