The 350th Blast continued on Saturday night at Boston Garden with 5 championships put on the line. The job of refereeing this night was turned over to veteran Dick Woehrle.
Canadian Champion Playboy Buddy Rose kicked things off with an easy win over Tiger Conway, jr.
Juventud Guerrera put his New England Championship belt on the line against Stevie Richards. Guerrera appeared to be headed for victory when he took a dive from the top of the turnbuckle to cover a downed Richards but all that he received for his effort was a huge forearm that stunned him. Richards went for the cover and Guerrera was counted out. Stevie Richards took home the first of the night's belts.
In the Canadian Tag Team Championship match between the Powers of Pain and the Blanchards with a No-DQ stipulation. It was a brutal match but, ultimately, the Blanchards regained the belts when Joe Blanchard used an abdominal stretch to finish The Warlord while Tully held off both Lou Albano and The Barbarian.
The next match put the United States Championship held by Vampiro on the line against Dirty Dutch Mantell. Though Mantell started strong Vampiro soon turned the tables and took the win using his Nail in the Coffin finisher.
A grudge match featuring the team of Mark Henry and Bad News Brown facing the Valiant Brothers. This may have been the match of the evening. Both Mark Henry and Jimmy Valiant were bloody messes but Jimmy rallied and to crush Bad News Brown with a flying leap off the top of the turnbuckle while Johnny held off Mark Hanry.
Don Muraco went to work on Frank Gotch who was distracted by Muraco's manager Mr. Fuji at several points during the match. Muraco was able to use his Hawaiian Hammer to seal the deal.
Trish Stratus put her newly acquired Women's Championship on the line against Leilani Kai. Unfortunately for Kai she let her frustrations get the best of her and she went after Stratus with a chair. Dick Woehrly quickly stepped in and issued a DQ to Kai.
In the feature match Bob Backlund put his IWA Heavyweight Championship on the line in a rematch against the man that he just took it from: William Muldoon. Muldoon demonstrated just how difficult an opponent that he can be by getting Backlund in serious trouble with his repertoire of holds. Backlund, exhausted, had to finally tap out and Muldoon regained the championship.
All in all it was a very successful and fun two nights of wrestling that saw some settling of feuds that had been brewing and determining multiple championships while creating some new rivalries. One thing that emerged from these matches is that I will be more willing to match up two faces in the future given the success of the emerging Muldoon-Backlund rivalry.
