A friend of mine is going to be at the Long Beach show coming up.
I'm jealous.

Okada and Tanahashi don’t get this many lengthy titles reigns in any other era of NJPW post 80’s. Hashimoto, Fujinami, Inoki, Muta, Choshu, Vader, Tenryu, etc. eat these guys for breakfast. Lame finishers and movesets. Is there greatness due to every one of their matches being 45 minutes or the fact that there are no marketable heavyweights in Japan right now. Always thought Shinsuke and Shibata were much better and had more powerful movesets. Time to move on to Omega or Ibushi.

Bob Holly (or Curt Hennig or Dolph Ziggler’s) dropkick poops all over Okada’s too! And his clothesline stinks. It’s like watching Luger lightly tap someone with his inner forearm.

Look, I dislike Okada and Tanahashi more than most people but give credit where it's due. Tanahashi carried New Japan during the dark period of the late 2000s and if it weren't for him, there wouldn't have been a resurgence for Okada to be attached to which means no expansion for New Japan which means the rest of the scene over there wouldn't have also been revived. Say what you want about their matches (I've certainly shit on both of them a lot and would rank them well below pretty much everyone you listed), but without them Japanese wrestling likely would still be in the shitter. Look at it this way: when New Japan's business is up, it generally means the rest of Japan is up. Without Tanahashi and Okada, business wouldn't be up and this thread likely would just have me rambling about Japanese wrestling with very few, if any other people replying. As for Omega and Ibushi, it's hard to move onto them when Ibushi won't sign a contract and Omega is basically operating on one year contracts. Their best bet would be to strap the rocket to Tomoyuki Oka because he's been Kidani's heir apparent to Okada from the jump. Kidani went super hard to recruit Oka and if they really wanted a new young star, all it takes is giving him the same phenom push Okada got.

Here's some huge news that I thought went under-reported from most major sites: New Japan Pro Wrestling have a western DVD distribution deal through Wrestling Store (UK) and Highspots. The first release is a Best of 2013/2014 type comp titled "An Introduction to New Japan Pro Wrestling". It's $30 and, as noted, is available on Highspots.

I guess I’m just an old man who misses his favorites. Waiting patiently for the next Kobashi and Misawa.

Honestly, I'd stop waiting for a new version of either of those guys because it's like waiting for a new Flair or a new Steve Austin and just give All Japan and Big Japan a shot. Their heavyweights work the same style, are mostly really good-to-great workers and the more eyeballs those products get the better.

Top two matches for Dominion appear to be Okada vs. Omega 2/3 Falls No Time Limit and Naito vs. Jericho for the IC Title.
